The remains of more than 60 infants and fetuses were found stashed in a Detroit funeral home, police said on Friday, calling the discovery “deeply disturbing.”

The incident comes about a week after the badly decomposed bodies of 11 babies were found hidden in a false ceiling at a different funeral home in the Michigan city.

No connection between the two cases has yet been established, Detroit’s police chief said. He added city, state and federal investigators were looking to form a task force to investigate the improper storage of human remains.

Unrefrigerated boxes containing about 36 sets of remains were recovered from the Perry Funeral Home along with another 27 sets of remains in a freezer, police said.

“This is deeply disturbing,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters on Friday.

“I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY 41-1/2 YEARS (ON THE FORCE), EVER.”

Investigators are working to establish ages and identities.

An official with Perry Funeral Home, which offers burial and cremation services, declined to comment on the incident.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement it revoked the funeral home’s license and shut down the facility after inspectors “found heinous conditions and negligent conduct at the home.”

Police have also launched an investigation into the now defunct Cantrell Funeral Home, where the remains of the 11 babies were uncovered last week after authorities received an anonymous letter leading them to the remains.

Its former operators have not commented to media.

In April, state regulators found “deplorable, unsanitary conditions” at the same premises, including embalmed bodies in an unrefrigerated garage and other badly decomposed remains, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement at the time.

The funeral home was also accused of several licensing and financial violations, the agency said.

It was a miracle at the premises of St. Paul Anglican Cathedral Ezeoke Ehime Mbano, Imo, State on Tuesday, October 16, as a 3-year old Master Theophilus Amajuoyi, was rescued from a 100-feet deep well, 24 hours after.

Narrating the chilling incident to The Leader, at the accident scene, Chief Reginald Nwosu the Executive Chairman Ehime Mbano Local Government Council said that he received a distress call after the incident which happened at about 4pm on Monday 15th October 2018.

According to him, a concerted effort at rescuing the boy from the pit commenced at I am when he successfully mobilized manpower and security of over 50 men.

Men of the Nigeria Police Force from Ehime Mbano Police Division, Area Command and other Vigilante Security Operatives had a hectic time controlling the mammoth crowd struggling to catch a glimpse of the tragedy.

Master Theophilus, an orphan, is a native of Umuopara Nsu but resides with his aunt following the death of his mother three months ago.

Trouble began on the ill feted day when the guardian of the 3-year old took him for prayers at the St. Paul Anglican Cathedral Church Ezeoke Nsu. While the woman was praying, the little boy wandered away from the church and slipped into an abandoned well within the premises of the Cathedral.



He was rescued twenty four hours later at about 4.25pm on Tuesday 16th October 2018.
There was jubilation and spontaneous expression of joy by onlookers, enthusiastic crowd, the rescuers and Bishop David Onuoha of Okigwe South Anglican Communion who gave thanks to God with praises.

Bishop Onuoha in an interview with The Leader expressed gratitude to God for his grace and mercies which endureth forever.

He expressed profound gratitude to Chief Reginald Nwosu, Executive Chairman, Ehime Mbano Council, for his deep concern and efforts which facilitated the rescue of the child. He praised gallant officers of the Nigerian Police, and all those who through prayers and other support helped on the rescue of the little orphan.

The boy was immediately rushed to Madonna Hospital, Ihitte Uboma where he is responding to treatment.

Bishop Onuoha promised to ensure that three other abandoned boreholes within the church were closed to forestall a reoccurrence of the ugly episode.

Reason: Doctors at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos have declared his right kneecap ruptured as a result of domestic accident which occurred in July 2016. They say that the diseased kneecap needs immediate replacement.

Narrating the young man's pathetic plight to The Leader, during a Save Our Soul (SOS) visit to the Assumpta Press Company, Onitsha Road Industrial Layout Owerri, last Thursday, October 11, 2018, his father, Sir Patrick Nwankwo, a retiree, lamented that his meager monthly pension is grossly inadequate to foot the cost of the surgical operation needed.

He explained that in addition to N1.6million for the purchase of a new kneecap from the dealers, “ERS Nig. Ltd Ikeja,” and N400,000 Hospital charge for two weeks stay in the hospital, another sum of N500,000 is required to cover other costs such as blood transfusion etc during the treatment. The father of the patient, disclosed that he belongs to the new contributory pension scheme group of retirees, whose income can hardly feed their families, let alone pay fees for other children in school.

He recalled that before Michael was finally referred to the National Orthopedic Hospital at Igbobi, the family had spent so much money treating him at Traditional Bone Fixers at Orodo in Imo State and at another hospital in Abuja to no effect. Instead of getting better, he had been growing worse, cried the father.

To crack down on opposition to Government, the new Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI) has directed all appointees and commissioners to monitor preachings by Reverend Fathers and pastors in their parishes and churches.

Engineer Mark Uchendu, who hails from Ihitte Uboma, and shockingly a Catholic Knight, has declared war against all the churches, apparently to please his boss.

Speaking after he was sworn in last week as SGI, Engr. Uchendu, a former commissioner for public utilities, literally ordered commissioners and other Government appointees to spy on the church.
