If the damming diverts the water is could permanently change the course of the river . i don't think damming and diversion are the same thing Damming for drinking and damming for agricultural use would reduce outflows The Niger couldd be diverted into Lake Chad won't it overflow after a few years This is quite technical so if you want to "get it" you have to do some work read and research but your assumption is wrong agreed The other thing is the actual SOURCE of the Niger in the Guinean Highlands. It is not guaranteed to be there forever or in the same amount . Man Rivers have shrunk and or dried in the past and will in the future new ones will replace them all that rain's gotta go somewhere, downhill |

0monnak0da: There should be water ports at the coast the solution to Lagos congestion is not dredging rivers when we have hundreds of miles of coast in Ogun,Ondo,Delta,Rivers Akwa Ibom and Cross River states . Rather we can build more ports. i'm nt a marine engineer but i thought ports need to be natural you can't just berth (from my understanding at bar beach when yua not jack sparrow I do not agree with your premise that Lagos is congested. why does it take long to clear containers why is apapa on total lockdown with trucks parrked on bridges? Ethiopia and Switzerland are totally landlocked and are performing better than Nigeria. This is the same resentment and rivalry to Lagos argument packaged in another way. they are surrounded by serious countries whose ports work If Lagos Capacity is inadequate it can be expanded. More ports can be built wherever viable with viability being the key consideration. expanded to where apapa looks tight to me(layman) A new port will soon be completed in Lekki. nice one(i need aerial view of lagos map ffor reference) Let the SS governments create an enabling environment for investors to build a port in the SS heck why don't they build the damn thing themselves(with their loot) instead of buying houses in dubai |

It is difficult to disscuss if you don't know these in significant microdetail or even why it is called "Niger" and what else it may be called. 0monnak0da: Dry port does not have to involve roads. Rail RAIL??!!! in nigeria when will that one ever happen have you learnt nothing from the ajaokuta debacle is more appropriate from Akwa Ibom ,Rivers or Bayelsa. That is the correct strategic investment and i still think port congestion is an issue The problem with river port is that it will involve dredging in Rivers and Bayelsa states whhich would put them at risk of flooding and they have little or nothing to gain from it. methinks dredging will REDUCE flood risk due to 'deepering and widering' the water channel so can handle higher throughput They will have to agree to any such dredging. It cannot be taken for granted as many seem to, that they will simply acquiesce and say "carry on" of course dredging will invovle Abia and Imo states too . when almighty FG is involved and billions of potential naira? stop kidding his a serious matter Drredging will not be a one off. Given the history of the FG that is unreliable and rail construction will be? The environmental impact of dredging a river in a delta area with so many creeks is unpredictable. Even if the flooding is due to global warming dredging would be blamed. we blame obj gej and now bubu for everything yet life goes on fuggedaboutit We have not forgotten the floods of 2012 wetin concine flood with dredging really i'd like to know There is an assumption that the River Niger is immortal and would always be there. Is that realistic. What happened to Lake Chad? lake Google RIVER NIGER DRYING. river see how they different but seriously the problem is reduced watershed in futa jallon(source of the niger) if my primary school geography serves me correctly so plant more trees in burkina faso Even if it does not dry
There is nothing to stop ,in the future Niger, Mali etc damming or diverting thee river. treaty's agreements money federal might We need to invest in what we can control we don't seem to be able to control sht |

Blue3k2: 1. It's river port because the plan was to give shippers annother option of transporting goods and easing pressure on roads.
2. There already river port planned for Lokoja, Baro and Oguta River ports. The dry port will be located in Isiala Ngwa in Abia state, Erunmu, Ibadan in Oyo state, Heipang in Plateau state, Zawachiki in Kano state, Zamfarawa, Funtua in Katsina state and Maiduguri in Borno state.
3. Sure you wouldn't have to dredge anything. You just need to build good roads. If the issue is only gazseting like they say then there's no reason both cabt exist. trailers are damaging the roads hence river transport |

0monnak0da: Why must it be a River Port.
A dry port can be just as useful and why just Onitsha Why not Abuja, Lokoja Ibadan and so on.
A dry dock is a more realistic proposal than a river port.
Please if you must quote me do not be rude o that your mother does not die of cancer the imports still need a water port na and lagos is congested? |

ECOWAS countries should be wooing Nigeria and making concessions to make us stay..not the other way round. %70 of West Africas population. %80 the GDP of West Africa...not counting Nigerias FDI.....What voice is Nigeria looking for? If ECOWAS member states unilaterally choose to engage with external players for selfish gains the regional bloc has lost iys relevance. $20 million dollars......giving the Americans foothold in Anglophone West Africa. $20 million. Nigeria spent $300 million in January 2017 to end the electoral crises in Gambia. What exactly are we benefiting frim ECOWAS. The comment made by Ghana's president on Americans makeing the region secure is a veiled slight at Nigeria. I am yet to see the returns for our magnanimity. FortifiedCity: It is with heavy heart that I write this. Today, Buhari's partner in killing and someone whom he might eventually anoint as a successor announced buhari's intention to run for a second term as Nigeria's President. It was a very shameful act on their part that buhari in the midst of his ill-health, gross incompetence, corruption extraordinaire and ethnic jingoism was bold enough to declare that he will run for second term. What an audacity. its his right or you prefer kim jung un way of life The problem is that Nigerians are toooo docile for my liking, you wen no docile, wetin hol' you all they ever want is to make jokes out of every situation, oya frank ur face na,see who e go epp even critical ones. In saner climes you just called an entire race imbeciles u really think anyone will take you seriously after that , buhari's declaration would have been greeted with serious demonstration from the citizenry. who demo epp ask hillary votes not jobless loiterers win From the demonstrations, he would have read the writing on the wall and retire in his daura home and continue tending his cows.
This is someone his wife and daughter is seriously against because they have seen his black heart, yet some gullible Nigerians are singing his praises. Oh ye gullinbingos, do you know buhari more than Aisha? What on earth can you say about buhari that Zahra doesn't know? Yet they have openly wished he wasn't President.
It is noteworthy that some slowpokes and shallow minds voted buhari because of Zahra's beauty. And I live in the same country with this people. Well God knows best!! so are americans slow for always voting for the taller or more good looking candidate? optics matter tis only human But I won't keep quite until buhari goes home. 2023 His people are killing the middlebeltans so that they can come down south and lay claims. Buhari knows all these. His people are being fortified with weapons for this purpose. don't you know where to get weapons? Wake up o ye southerners for he has come to kill, steal and destroy.
If buhari has another 4 years, a diverse Nigeria Will be good as gone. if pdp gets another 4 years the whole of africa will burn Say no to buhari Say no to fulani colonisation Say no to deliberate killings southwards and replace with who pray tell |

Sowore wants to pay them 50,000 x 12 x 12,000,000 = 7,200,000,000,000 a year.
That's 7.2 trillion naira annually by 2019/2020. Meanwhile our 2018 budget is 7 8 trillion, another youth who has refused to grow up, still telling tales at 47. 12 million ahnahnnn na every tenth person crippleeee? lie small small na |
Politics › Re: . by mikolo80: 10:48pm On Apr 09, 2018 |
omohayek: If this is true - and I don't consider random Instagram posts to be reliable sources of news - then it only indicates that Sowore has nothing more than "youth" going for his campaign, with no real thought given to formulating reasonable and achievable policy objectives, just more spur-of-the-moment propagandizing in the exact same manner as the Buhari he's trying to remove from Aso Rock.
What I don't understand at all about Sowore is how he can have lived for so long in a place like America, with its highly sophisticated politics full of policy wonks, think-tanks and foundations pushing out white papers, famous economists dissecting political proposals, etc, and yet his campaign has so far failed to show any of that sort of sophistication, just more of the same old intellectually vacuous nonsense that Nigerian politicians have always favored, with the only new twist being Sowore's lack of affiliation to any of the old godfathers. Didn't he ever bother to watch CNN, C-SPAN or the Daily Show? Didn't he ever take out a subscription to the New York Times, the Washington Post or The Economist? How can someone living in a land of limitless bandwidth display so little exposure to serious political thinking?
Without proof that wisdom accompanies Sowore's "youth", we might as well replace the decrepit and clueless Buhari with the "youthful" but even more useless Yahaya Bello, who at least has a track record, terrible as it is. Simply being "young" (at 47!) is just not enough.
I certainly believe that what Sowore is doing is valuable, for showing the Nigerian masses that they have more options than just the same old geriatric thieves, but Sowore's failure to show that he's thought seriously about Nigeria's problems and how to fix them - or even that he's bringing onto his team such serious thinkers - tells me that it would be a grave mistake to treat him as anything more than a protest candidate against the status quo. Hopefully his campaign will open the way for other "youthful" but more intellectually heavyweight candidates to eventually make it to Aso Rock. like you stated he just here to show there is a third option |
