If you are a visitor to Canada, you cannot open a bank account. Reason is that your a need a valid means of Canadian ID to open an account. For newcomers it is usually their COPR or study permit or work permit (as the case may be)

I already made enquire from some Canadian banks and was told I can open one with my international passport.
I came here to ask for personal experience of people who have or know someone that have done same.

Hi guys, please I need some information.
In trying to hedge against Naira inflation by putting money in a foreign account, I am thinking of opening a savings account here in Canada as I am currently visiting.
Based on your experience, which of the banks would you recommend I go for in terms of zero service charge, tax and easy access outside Canada?
Although I plan calling the top banks for enquires, just wanna be double sure.
I will really appreciate a response, thanks.

Now to your question, if your flight stops in Toronto first then you do your 3days quarantine there. After which the hotel shuttle takes you back to the Airport for your connecting flight to Calgary.
If you already booked your ticket, it's not a problem, call your airline to move your Calgary flight to the last day of your hotel quarantine.
I also had same issue with Lufthansa but I was able to resolve it this way.

This thread helped me alot when I was sourcing information on how to go about Canadian visa application and even my trip during Covid19 and I feel I should give back.

Visa Application
I submitted my application 31st October 2020 after I had gotten enough information on this thread. My sister is a Canadian PR, so she sent me all the required documents. I am married but I decided to apply alone and use hubby and my work as tie back to Nigeria. I also have travel history as I have been to the USA twice.
I do not have landed property so I submitted letter from work stating I am a permanent staff and entitied to 20 days leave annually, statement of accounts (salary and savings), certificates of investments and car document.
I originally planned to travel in December 2020 so I can use up the Xmas holiday with my leave days but my application was still at the background check stage then.
As stated above, I submitted my application 31st October, biometrics confirmation and background check was updated on my app 11th November, then nothing from them till 18th January 2021 when they sent me a rejection letter on the Travel exemption approval I applied for. Their reason for rejection was that I did not submit the complete documents. So I had to immediately send them (IRCC.COVID-TravelExemptions-Exemptionsdevoyage-COVID.IRCC@cic.gc.ca) an appeal email with my application details, statutory declaration attestation, proof of relationship (I used our birth certificates), scan copy of sister's PR card and my international passport. I got an automated response from them immediately, then on the 3rd of February, I got an exemption approval and PPR.
The next Monday, I sent my passport to VFS Lagos via DHL and got my passport back within two weeks.

Travelling During Covid19 Lockdown
I bought Lufthansa tickets to Calgary but the flight had 2 stops, Frankfurt and Vancouver. So when booking my 3 days hotel for quarantine, I selected an hotel in Calgary because that was my last stop. I didn't understand the information I was seeing online hence the mistake. I ought to have selected an hotel in Vancouver as that was my first POE to Canada. I had so much back and forth with the airline and hotel but I was eventually able to cancel the Calgary booking and made another reservation in Vancouver.
Tip: When booking your hotel for quarantine, you can use your bank atm to hold even though you won't be debited as a result of the USD limit on the card, but once you arrive at the hotel you can pay them with cash (USD or CAD).

I did my covid test at 54gene in Oregun a day before my trip and the result was upload on the app the morning I was to travel.
You have to arrive at the airport early, like 4-6 hours before your flight because all your documents (statutory declaration attestation, family's PR card, letter of exemption to travel, result of covid test) have to be sent to Canada for verification before they can check you in.

That's all I remember for now, I hope it helps someone out there.

Just a lil update for those who are wondering the outcome of our Caleb University Waka.
Recall I came here in 2018 asking people to come to Caleb for PDG and that we needed up ten people to get a discount. Well, few people showed interest but only two eventually enrolled. So we didn't get the discount expected. We eventually paid the full tuition which was 470k instead of 400k.

Anyways, we concluded the program September last year and got our transcript sent to WES in October. ECA is out as One Year post graduate degree. See attached.

Upon completion of the program last year, my IELTS expired, so I decided to write another. Writing showed me pepper, I wrote twice and still did not get the desired score. Thank God for @blissnenye, I contacted her a week to writing the third one in Jan. She was really helpful. Thanks Sis, God bless you.
Now I have LRSW 887.57....I plan remarking the listening and writing thou. Cos I need to max out.

Right now I'm in the pool with 461...actively searching for PNP... It seems the way to go now as scores are not coming down anytime soon.

Keep pushing guys, do what you have to do (legally) now. It will surely end well.

You're looking at at least 1 year of being away from your spouse. Spousal application is a brutal process. There's no way to fast track it. An option could be your wife getting a trv and y'all file inland.

My question is this, how easy is it to file for spouse once I get to Canada? Also is the one year processing time-line feasible? What can help fast track the processing upon landing in Canada?

I just got my updated ECA with ACCA's 1 yr certificate.

Can someone help with how this certificate is added to express entry profile as it relates to the following:

1. Full Time or Part Time
2: Number of years of study
3: Country of education (UK is not available but England, Scotland and Wales are there)
4: Start and End Date (is this the year I start ACCA and year I wrote the last paper to qualify for the certificate?)

Hi Wale. Kindly shed more light on this ACCA thingy. Can one register for the 3 exams at the same time? Or you have to write the F1 before F2 then F3? Thanks.

Did the programme lead to direct entry into year 2 of a degree course or year 1 of a degree course?

In OOU, PDS is for one year (2 semesters). You then gain admission into 100 level if you meet the pass mark. This was what prompted me to send it to Wes for evaluation. I was hopeful the outcome would be favourable but 3 weeks after receipt of my transcript from the school, Wes cancelled by evaluation. It was very devastating for me, I contacted them via Twitter to find out what the problem was......that was when I was told they don't evaluate predegree.
I had to loggin to Nairaland just to give this feedback so people know. You can however try with other evaluating bodies.....no harm in trying. Cheers!

Hi Segzy. Please note that WES does not evaluate Predegree study, they claim it's not a credential their evaluators would evaluate regardless of the documentation received. So please don't waste your money. I'm still waiting for a refund from them which is small compared to what I paid to my school (OOU) to process the transcript.

Hello guys, I have been a silent reader in the travel section not only on this thread. You guys are doing a great job here kudos!
I got an invite for my cousin's wedding in May and I booked an appointment in June for today.I was at the US embassy in Lagos for my interview and am so grateful to God and you guys that I was granted the VISA.
I did not use an agent, have never traveled out of Nigeria before,my take home salary is just 100k and am single.
From my experience today, I think all you need at the US embassy is your confidence, the VO did not asked me for any document not even the wedding invitation.

My interview was for 8am thou I got there 5 mins after cos of the traffic.

Here is my transcript:

VO: Good morning, please let me have your passport
Me: I gave it to him with my data page
VO: where are you going in the Us?
Me: .......in Georgia for my Cousin's wedding
VO: types on his system

note I earn 100k which I stated in my form but I didnt mention that to him, am sure he must have seen it on his system cos he kept on typing and looking at his system

Me: one and half yrs
VO: How many weeks are you staying in the US
Me: 3 weeks
VO: Are you married?
Me: with a smile I told him am single but engaged (I had an engagement ring on my fourth finger)
