DRC is our least or even a non existent football rival in africa, Akor standing in solidarity with the mockery of their icon by the Algerians still further strengthened a non existent arch rivalry with them

but but but but, i wanna see Jamaica at the world cup…..but but but its clearly looking like DRC will qualify, if DRC catch that New Caledonia that Jamaica beat 1-0, na to wire them like tiff

Africa is not really united, we just dey wine ourselves….every african country at the world cup currently is representing themselves not africa, if they get to semifinal or final, the rest of africa will not hear word again, they wont even remember their fellow africans we’re backing them through their journey.

I still dey regret why i mumu my self dey cry when Gyan missed that penalty in 2010…was still a young adult that time sha…na now i no say every one is on there own…

If Morocco had been the one to file this kind of petition, FIFA would have had no choice but to properly open and address the case. The unity within 🇲🇦 is undeniable ;look at the recent trophy decision. There’s been no public backlash from their journalists or citizens questioning its legitimacy. They stand together and defend their interests collectively.

In contrast, when it comes to Nigeria’s case against DR Congo, we see the opposite. Some of our own sports journalists and citizens were quick to criticize the NFF, accusing them of trying to reach the World Cup through the “backdoor.” This lack of unity weakens our position. A divided front makes it easier for external bodies to dismiss us without serious consideration.

From the outset, FIFA didn’t take Nigeria’s petition seriously, and our internal divisions only reinforced that. If we had collectively amplified our voices media, stakeholders, and citizens alike demanding a timely and fair review, FIFA would have been compelled to properly treat the case. Even if the outcome didn’t favor us, at least we would have had sufficient time to escalate the matter to CAS and pursue justice.

At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if Jamaica is already preparing a similar petition should the need arise. FIFA’s response to Nigeria suggests there was merit in the case, and others may now look to take advantage of that precedent.

Baba the qualifiers was just fresh, if Chelle or any other serious coach had taken over from Peseiro 2points while we were trailing the team at the top Rwanda by 2points only, we would have closed up quickly….Finidi really scatter everything by further trailing leaders by 4/5points

FIFA sanctions Nigeria, DR Congo over W’C

Four months after the disputed 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-off final between Nigeria national football team and DR Congo national football team, FIFA has sanctioned the Nigeria Football Federation and the DR Congo Football Federation following disciplinary incidents that occurred during the match, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

DR Congo beat Nigeria 4–3 on penalties in Morocco to advance to the intercontinental play-offs.

According to FIFA’s latest disciplinary overview released for the World Cup qualifiers, both the NFF and the Congolese FA were found guilty of separate infractions during the match played on November 16, 2025.

FIFA stated that Nigeria was penalised for a breach relating to order and security at matches, specifically involving the throwing of objects by spectators under Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and the NFF was consequently fined 1,000 Swiss francs.

On their part, the DR Congo federation received a heavier sanction after supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the match. The act contravenes Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, leading FIFA to impose a 5,000 Swiss francs fine on the Congolese body.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle also accused DR Congo officials of using voodoo in the wake of the defeat.

Nigeria lodged the complaint after losing the African play-off, arguing that the Congolese federation misled FIFA in securing nationality switches for several overseas-born players.

The petition, submitted on December 15, 2025, asked FIFA to investigate the matter and potentially disqualify DR Congo from the qualification process.

The Nigerian federation’s document listed numerous foreign-born players who featured against the Super Eagles, including Lionel Mpasi, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Arthur Masuaku, Samuel Moutoussamy, Ngal’ayel Mukau, Noah Sadiki, Nathanaël Mbuku and Cédric Bakambu in the starting line-up, as well as substitutes Timothy Fayulu, Matthieu Epolo, Joris Kayembe, Edo Kayembe, Steve Kapuadi, Gédéon Kalulu, Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Mario Stroeykens.

In the complaint, released publicly by journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Nigeria argued that several players obtained clearance to represent DR Congo only days before the decisive play-off match, despite having been called up earlier for the fixture.

While DR Congo are preparing for the World Cup play-offs, where they are scheduled to face the winner of the semi-final between New Caledonia and Jamaica on March 31 for a place at the World Cup, they have also dropped two of the disputed players — Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Mario Stroeykens — from their 26-man squad.

That being said, for me I still feel he was never really our 1st choice, He was considered to mount to goal for a short time, for me at that time the SE was still trying to get a 1st choice. Just like when Ejide was used at the 2026 Afcon over Eyeama. We all knew Eyeama was our no.1
Enyeama was already our cemented number 1 before Ejide came in 2008 to also be tried as the number 1goalie

Molde's Nigeria U20 international Daniel Daga has been convicted of committing a sexual act against a person who did not consent to it, and has been sentenced to six months in prison, according to Norwegian television TV 2.

The verdict was delivered by the Nordmøre og Romsdal District Court, which found the midfielder guilty of the offence on Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to receiving a six-month prison sentence, Daga has been ordered to cover NOK 10,000 in legal costs, approximately N1.45 million in Nigerian currency.

Daga's lawyer Astrid Bolstad said the Nigerian will appeal the verdict, maintaining that the player is innocent and that the encounter was consensual.

"He is terribly sorry that the verdict was the way it was. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent, " Astrid Bolstad told TV 2.

"He will appeal the verdict. The verdict is not final. He will be treated like everyone else until he is sentenced."

Molde announced in a statement on Tuesday evening that they are aware of the verdict and the player will not play matches for the time being.

"This is a very demanding matter for all involved. As an employer, Molde Football Club has a responsibility to look after our employees in a responsible manner, while at the same time having great respect for the seriousness of the matter and for the burdens this entails for all parties concerned.

"Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice."

Daga joined Molde in January 2025 and has appeared in seventeen matches for the five-time Norwegian champions, scoring three goals.

The 19-year-old represented the Flying Eagles at the 2023 and 2025 Fifa U20 World Cups.

I disagree. If the NFF were competent eg paying bonuses on time, giving to the players what is due etc

Most of these guys would want to rep Naija. Especially seeing as the guys we approached weren’t even the biggest prospects of the EU nation.

Abraham when Kane was there.

Eze had not yet broken out when we approached him.

Point is, when you have a stable and functioning environment, players will want to play.
i thinks its majorly dependent on NFF poor handling of players, thats making many if them look away,
Its not really dominantly about whether the NFF made first move to get them….deep inside many of them, even if NFF come first to get them, some of them will wanna prefer and wish the NFF wait a little for them to grow in their career before making a decision on where to go….
And some of them, when they are falling off their momentary prime and attention they get at a particular period of their career, they will now start to show interest….

Ajeh if Lookman was the hottest star player for Madrid or Barca,Mancity,PSG,Liverpool,Bayern in his early days…NFF coming first to lure him will not even move him…inferiority complex will not even allow NFF near him🤣🤣🤣
Na England baba go play for straight up

So because these guys turned us down in the past we should not pursue other dual nationals in the future? How about the ones we have now still eligible? Carney was there and no concrete efforts were made. Now he is with Austria. You have someone like Edna Imade who wanted to play for Nigeria yet was never called up until Spain finally called her up. We need to be more aggressive in pursuing these players instead of being passive. Other African countries are reaching out to their diaspora to improve their NT and some of you are here making excuses for the NFF🙄 and content with below average players and wonder why we are struggling to qualify for World cups.
Did they tell you they didn’t pursue it?
and Who told you its becos of these facts you mentioned we are struggling to qualify for the world cup?Go pack all of them in Super eagles and give them poor coach, we will still struggle to qualify.
All the Mitchelle Alozie, Ashleigh plumptre, Esther Okoronkwo, Tony and Nicole Payne, Echiejini, Lookman,Aina,Alebiosu etc that switched to Nigeria, were you the one that persuade them to come?
When one player dumps us, NFF wahala, when more foreign breeds switches to Nigeria all of you will remain quiet and not applaud such switch and move…
Baba the ones that will play will not give us stress.
And you think some players are not catching the eye of NFF currently

With all the approaches at Eze, Tomori, Oliseh, Madueke, etc, did they agreed to play for Nigeria?
Or you want the NFF to come out and tell you that they approached a particular player and the player turned them down. I guess you haven't worked in a discreet government establishments or a multinational company and that's why you think it's everything that must be brought to the masses or the social media. Or you are not aware that this same inept NFF according to you has been holding talks with Kayode of Brentford and Honest Ahanor of Atalanta, so why would they ignore Chukwuemeka? Most Nigerians always act like they know it all, more than those at the helm of affairs, until they get to same position and find out that they are less intelligent, this beat describes you
Asin ehhn we Nigerians dont like analysing or fairly giving our opinions… once a player refuse to play for us it turns out that NFF was careless about their switch..
This guys simply dont wanna play for us.
