PoliticsRe: Dogo Gide: Bandit Leader Who Shot Down Military Helicopter Killed by Minime10(m): 8:33am On Mar 27, 2024
Kosiso12:
Security forces have reportedly killed an infamous bandit leader Dogo Gide, behind several attacks, including the shooting of a military helicopter.

Politics Nigeria gathered that Dogo Gide passed away as a result of gunshot injuries sustained during a clash with Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces.

The encounter took place in the challenging landscape of Madada forest within the Maru local government area on March 12, 2024.

Despite suffering serious injuries, Dogo Gide was said to have been covertly taken to a hospital in Mabera, Sokoto, Sokoto State, where he eventually passed away.

Dogo Gide, a notorious fugitive sought for his series of heinous crimes in the area, was laid to rest in Dandalla Village on March 24.

His appearance at the hospital was supposedly made easier by a security official who is currently detained, prompting concerns about potential cooperation within the security forces.

The successful elimination of Dogo Gide represents a notable achievement for the Nigerian security forces, showcasing the collaborative endeavors of 1 Division and 8 Division of the Nigerian Army.

Dogo Gide has a history of involvement with ANSARU and other significant terrorist organizations.

He has been linked to serious crimes including the shooting down of a military helicopter in the Dansadau-Birmin Gwari region and the kidnapping of students from Federal Government College Yauri.

[quote author=iwaeda post=129011542]The group accused the President of appointing members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party in positions to spite the supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

Farmers Movement for Jagaban 2023, a political support group that worked for the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the President of Nigeria has decried abandonment after the election victory.

The group accused the President of appointing members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party in positions to spite the supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement on Tuesday by the group's National Coordinator, Rilwan Ahmed stated that the "Support Groups, PCC (Presidential Campaign Council) Members and foot soldiers of Asiwaju are not useless as you all may think."

Ahmed said that they had cooked and it would be a great sin to stop them from eating the food when it was ready.

He warned that another election is in three years and that they will remind everyone about President Tinubu's failed reward system.

The statement partly read: "President Bola Tinubu and his groups of Generals who had direct interactions with supporters and foot soldiers prior to his emergence as the candidate of our party and later president of Nigeria have all abandoned their now used and dumped supporters.

"Didn’t they say power corrupt absolutely? No wonder power has made them forget their much talked about reward system.

"(Abiodun) Faleke, (Simon) Lalong who were at the helm of the affairs of the presidential campaign, who directly worked with those supporters, who today have been neglected after much assurance during the eve of election deserve every shame Nigerians are directing to those neglected supporters.

"It is now of concern and more disgraceful that the generals who were directly interacting with the president and his supporters have been shielding its members from getting their rewards from President Tinubu.

"Our bamboo has worked and it is worrisome and disappointing that none of our known soldiers have been appointed into ministries, departments, and agencies. Even though we heard the ministerial list was for the highest bidder, reason we have the worst cabinet since 1999.”

The group described the situation as the handiwork of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima “by their ways of determining who to appoint or not to appoint”.

It said, “The buck stops at their table and nobody should be blamed except them.

"It is very unfortunate that Faleke and Lalong who oversaw the activities of Support Groups and Presidential Campaign Council members are shying from pressing the reward system buttons, or has the sudden power let go of those buttons promised?"

The group also accused President Tinubu and Shettima of rewarding undeserving individuals and politicians who have no value.

It also slammed the President for allegedly appointing only people from Lagos, Osun, and Rivers states that embraced opposition parties and never delivered victory for his emergence. It said, "The percentages are for everyone to see. What a Shame?

"It is also thought-provoking seeing the president appointing members of the PDP and Labour Party to spite APC supporters because of Wike who never believed in this struggle during the pre-primaries, or was it not after he lost primaries to Atiku and was dropped as his running mate that he joined the struggle?

“He even boasted that he single-handedly appointed minister of petroleum and two other ministers.”

"I think Wike will deliver Nigeria to him in 2027," Ahmed said. "The same President went to Kaduna during a campaign to beg Mallam to work with him after the government was formed. He turned around to disgrace the same man that took a bullet for him during the election to the extent that northern leaders challenged his audacity and called him out but stuck to Asiwaju. What went wrong with our beloved Asiwajuhuh

"Many may be surprised that 90 percent of those who worked for Tinubu’s success are children of nobody that also like to become somebody without knowing anybody. The slogan then was that Asiwaju rewards loyalty.

"We’ve seen sons and daughters of president’s friends being appointed into political offices they never worked for, or who would tell us where they were when we were all tussling under the sun and in the rain for Asiwaju’s victory.

"Support Groups, PCC Members, and foot soldiers of Asiwaju are not as useless as you all may think. We have cooked and it will be a great sin to stop us from eating from the food we have cooked.”

"Election is in two years and we will remind everyone about your failed reward system," the statement partly read.

BREAKING: Security agents know bandits’ hideouts, they follow me to negotiate with them — Gumi

Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, said security agents know the hideout of bandits terrorising Nigerians, particularly in the northern parts of the country.

Gumi revealed this during an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Monday evening, saying that the security agents followed him to negotiate with the bandits.

The controversial cleric said the federal government should negotiate with the kidnappers who abducted about 287 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State because it is the only reasonable way to ensure the safe return of the pupils.

He argued that negotiation does not necessarily mean money will be paid to the kidnappers; it might be releasing prisoners for captives.

Speaking further, he said bandits are just marginalised Nigerians, who don’t have access to education, good roads, water, and other social amenities.

Echoing his longtime sentiment, Gumi said the government should grant bandits amnesty like they did in the Niger Delta region to end insecurity in the North.

When asked about why it was easy for him to locate and meet with the bandits while security agents struggle with their location, Gumi said the security agents are not being truthful because they always follow him to negotiate with the kidnappers.

“I don’t think they (security agents) are truthful with you. When I go, I go with them; I don’t go alone,” he said.
Speaking on the identities of the bandits, Gumi said they are mainly herdsmen, who are largely Nigerians with few foreigners .

PoliticsRe: Northern Elders Back Gumi, Beg Tinubu To Negotiate With Bandits by Minime10(m): 11:52am On Mar 16, 2024
Kosiso12:
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has declared support for plans by controversial Kaduna-based Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to negotiate with the bandits who abducted over 280 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The northern elders expressed the optimism that Gumi may be able to secure their release and prevent future abduction of allowed to dialogue with the bandits.

Recall that the Bola Tinubu-led federal government on Wednesday said it would not pay “a dime” as a ransom for the release of school children, adding that they would be “brought back to safety”.

But NEF’s spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said Gumi should be supported “to bring about a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Kaduna”.

He said negotiating with bandits did not mean “condoning their actions or granting them impunity,” adding that it was a strategic move to “de-escalate” the situation and save the lives of victims.

His words: “While some may question the legitimacy of negotiating with criminals, it is important to consider the potential benefits of engaging in dialogue. In conflict resolution, dialogue is often seen as crucial to finding peaceful solutions.

“By engaging with the bandits, Gumi may be able to understand their grievances and motivations, which could potentially lead to the safe release of the abducted children.

“Additionally, opening lines of communication with the bandits could pave the way for addressing underlying issues such as poverty, lack of education, and marginalisation that contribute to the cycle of violence.

“Moreover, pursuing a dialogue with the bandits does not necessarily mean condoning their actions or granting them impunity. It is a strategic move to de-escalate the situation and protect the lives of innocent victims.

“By initiating talks, Gumi may be able to secure the release of the schoolchildren and potentially prevent future abductions. While dialogue with bandits may seem controversial, it can be a necessary step in resolving conflicts and ensuring the safety of hostages; Gumi’s intention to engage in dialogue should be supported as a means to bring about a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Kaduna,” he added.

PoliticsRe: Recent Terrorists Attack Is Tip Of Iceberg Unless Nigerian Government Negotiates by Minime10(m): 6:46am On Mar 16, 2024
ogododo:
An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has again claimed that there is no military solution to end the insecurity problems Nigeria is currently facing.

The scholar who said this during an interview session with AriseNews TV which SaharaReporters monitored on Friday morning, insisted that persistent military attacks on the terrorists were responsible for their latest lack of sympathy on Nigerians they abducted.

He added that the Nigerian government should emulate how the United States' government negotiated with the Taliban terrorists by also having a dialogue with the bandits to prevent the insurgence in the country.

He said, “This thing (banditry) is turning into something else. We are turning them into monsters, more monsters as what they are. They are ignorant, they don’t have direction, they don’t leadership, they don’t have empathy now because of the way we treat them too, we don’t care when we burn them.

"When we born their children and women, in fact this very recent incident is just a tip of an iceberg; what has been happening in the bush, until we change our tactics and allow people who know, these politicians, I am tired of them.

“I was a military man myself, but I don’t think there is a military solution, in fact I think it is humiliating military to think that the military should take care of civilian insurgency, what we need is a very good detective work, very good policing, very good social programme. We should leave our military off these issues. Our military knows fire for fire and these people do not have the fire power, they hide behind the civilians and do whatever they do. So don’t let us humiliate and disgrace our military. This is not their job, this is the job of politicians. This is the job of the police, this is the job of intelligence.

“In fact I believe no ransom should be paid, I believe that but engage, engage these people. Give them hope. But not only in these children’s cases, be holistic. I heard when one military man said it is turning into a war, I am so sad to see that they are now realising that it is turning into a war. It has been war since, it has been ethnic war, it’s been class war, it is not just more than criminality. We have to accept that.

“If we can see Israel and Hamas exchanging prisoners, I don’t see why we can’t negotiate. If Americans can negotiate with the Taliban, I don’t see why we can't. They (foreign governments) can’t impose on us their own ideas when behind the door, they also negotiate with this terrorists.”

PoliticsRe: Lawyers Back INEC Chair, Yakubu, Pass Vote Of Confidence by Minime10(m): 6:35am On Mar 16, 2024
okrote4real:
Lawyers in Nigeria, Friday, passed a vote of confidence and threw weight behind the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu on the heels of calls for his sack and resignation.

The lawyers said it is uncalled for some persons to be mischievous to go down so low to put out allegations they cannot substantiate rather they were out to run down the incredibility of INEC and blackmail its chairman.

The lawyers under the auspices of Consortium of Nigerian Lawyers, CNL, in a petition addressed to Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, UK, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak, through Her Majesty's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery CMG, asserted that the malicious claims of bribery and corruption were propagated by faceless individuals.

The petition reads in part: “We, the undersigned Nigerian lawyers, write this petition with great concern and urgency regarding the unsubstantiated and fake allegations made against Mallam Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). We implore you to address this issue and rectify the damage caused to Mallam Yakubu's reputation and the sanctity of the electoral process in Nigeria.

“The allegations in question, as reported by the conspiracy-driven news outlets and social media, claim that Mallam Yakubu engaged in corrupt practices and has accepted bribes. These malicious claims were propagated by faceless individuals who lack any form of credibility or substantiation for their accusations. It is clear that these allegations are baseless and intended solely to tarnish the reputation of Mallam Yakubu and undermine the integrity of INEC.

“Mallam Mahmood Yakubu has dedicated his career to public service and has consistently demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to upholding democratic principles. His track record as the Chairman of INEC is commendable, with major strides made towards ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria. We firmly believe that his leadership has significantly contributed to the democratic progress witnessed in recent years.

“It is worth noting that INEC, under the leadership of Mallam Yakubu, successfully conducted the 2019 general elections, which were internationally recognized as a significant improvement in Nigeria's electoral process. This recognition further solidifies his reputation as a competent and trustworthy election administrator.

“The recent protest organized against Mallam Yakubu by the United Nigeria in Diaspora (UND) a faceless Group without any means of identification or address and the call for Prof. Mahmood's resignation are deeply concerning. These unsubstantiated allegations and actions serve to erode public confidence in the electoral process and undermine Nigeria's democracy as a whole. It is crucial that we protect the institutions responsible for conducting free and fair elections and ensure that they are not subjected to baseless attacks.

“We call upon your office, in collaboration with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, to intervene in this matter and seek clarification on the allegations made against Mallam Yakubu. We urge you to issue a statement denouncing these false accusations and affirming support for the independence and integrity of INEC.”

However, the petitioners urged the British High Commissioner to Nigeria to engage relevant Nigerian authorities to investigate and bring the accusers to book over the spreading false information about the INEC boss.

“Furthermore, we request that the British High Commissioner to Nigeria engages with relevant Nigerian authorities to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for spreading false information about Mallam Yakubu. It is imperative that those who seek to undermine the electoral process through unsubstantiated allegations are identified and brought to justice”, it added.

Meanwhile, the lawyers acknowledged the fact that, “As legal professionals, we believe in the principles of due process, fairness, and justice. It is our duty to advocate for the rights and reputation of individuals when they are subjected to false accusations that have the potential to cause irreparable harm. We trust that you, as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, will prioritize the pursuit of truth and fairness in addressing this matter.

“Lastly, we urge you to stand firmly with the Nigerian government in their endeavors to strengthen democratic institutions and protect the integrity of the electoral process. It is through collaborative efforts and adherence to democratic principles that we can ensure a brighter future for Nigeria and its citizens.”
