Politics › Re: Buhari: Bandits Shouldn’t Think They Can’t Be Crushed by Minime10(m): 4:46pm On Nov 16, 2021
treesun:
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has warned bandits against thinking that they cannot be crushed.

This is as he said his regime will not abandon Nigerians to their fate in the face of the existential challenge caused by banditry.

Buhari said this from South Africa while condemning the killing of 15 people by bandits in Goronyo and Illela Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu disclosed this in a statement titled ‘President Buhari Condemns Latest Killing Of 15 People By Bandits In Sokoto State, Sympathises With Victim, Urges Security Forces To Redouble Efforts.’

Shehu quoted Buhari as saying that “this needless and mindless violence against innocent people cannot go unpunished.”

The President said, “This persistent and unprovoked violence against unarmed civilians must be met with fierce response by the government.

“Let me once again, reassure Nigerians that this administration will not abandon them to their fate in the face of this existential challenge caused by banditry.”

According to the President, “We are taking delivery of military equipment to improve the capacity of our security forces to effectively deal with this issue.

“Our military is also deploying advanced technology to enhance surveillance and related operations to locate and crush these criminals and enemies of our common humanity.

“This administration will not tolerate this state of affairs where criminals deprive the people of their means of livelihoods and turn them into beggars and refugees. The bandits are living in a fool’s paradise if they believe that they can’t be crushed. The criminals cannot be lucky always; they will ultimately meet their Waterloo. Evil cannot triumph over good no matter how long it takes.”

Politics › Re: Five Times Lai Muhammad Said Nobody Was Killed At Lekki Tollgate by Minime10(m): 2:16pm On Nov 16, 2021
OwaliZiz:
In the past one year, Mohammed has consistently disputed the report that protesters died at the tollgate, while attacking international organisations that reported the killings by the Nigerian Army.

On Monday a report of the Lagos state judicial panel on police brutality — including investigation on the Lekki massacre said protesters were killed at the tollgate in what the panel described as a “massacre”.

Highlights of some of the instances Mohammed said no protester was killed at the Lekki tollgate.

LAI ATTACKS DJ SWITCH, SAYS SHE IS A FRAUD OVER LEKKI MASSACRE

In November 2020, the minister attacked DJ Switch, a disc jockey, who filmed the army shooting #EndSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate, saying she will soon be “exposed for who she is”.

Lai, who described the disc jockey as a “purveyor of fake news,” questioned her motive for saying protesters were killed by the army, which he said was “suspicious”.

“One of the purveyors of fake news was one DJ Switch which real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh, even though she claimed authentic evidence of mass killings. Surprisingly, instead of presenting whatever evidence she may have, she chose to escape from the country on the claim that her life was in danger,” the minister had said.

LAI WRITES CNN, SAYS REPORT ON LEKKI CAPABLE OF SETTING NIGERIA ON FIRE

Again, in November 2020, the information minister said the report of CNN on the Lekki shooting “did not just fall short of journalistic standards but reinforces the disinformation that is going around on the issue”.

The minister, in the letter written to CNN, said the international platform left out video which could have shown that “armed hoodlums invaded the Lekki Toll Gate that night, and could have hit any of the protesters as they shot sporadically”.

“This is clearly a ploy by the CNN reporter/presenter to manipulate viewers of its ‘investigative’ report and force them to draw the reporter’s desired conclusion,” the minister wrote.

‘COME OUT WITH YOUR PROOF OR SHUT UP’ — LAI HITS AMNESTY OVER LEKKI SHOOTING

In January, the information minister asked Amnesty International (AI) to show proof of the 12 people killed during the shooting at the Lekki tollgate or “shut up”.

Mohammed said the human rights organisation was gradually losing credibility, and asked AI to come out with evidence of the people killed by the military.

‘NOBODY HAS COME FORWARD TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE OF PEOPLE KILLED AT LEKKI‘

Again, in February, the information minister said nobody has come forward to produce evidence of those killed at Lekki tollgate.

Mohammed described the report of killings at the Lekki tollgate as “fake news and unverified social media reports”.

‘NO PROOF ANY PROTESTER WAS KILLED AT LEKKI TOLLGATE’

During the first anniversary of the Lekki tollgate shooting in October, the information minister, in a press briefing, said there is no proof that any protester was killed at the Lekki tollgate, last year.

The minister described the incident at the tollgate as a “phantom massacre”, saying it is the “first massacre in the world without blood or bodies”.

“One year later, and despite ample opportunities for the families of those allegedly killed and those alleging a massacre to present evidence, there has been none: No bodies, no families, no convincing evidence, nothing,” the minister had said.

“Where are the families of those who were reportedly killed at the toll gate? Did they show up at the Judicial Panel of Inquiry? If not, why?

BREAKING: Brig General Gunned Down As ISWAP Fighters Ambush Troops In Borno

A Brigadier-General has been shot dead in an ambush by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

A Brigadier-General has been shot dead in an ambush by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

Four other soldiers were reportedly killed in the incident which occurred at Bulguma, few kilometers from Askira town in Askira Uba Local Government Area.

It was gathered that troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, had mobilised to provide reinforcement in Askira, which was under attack.

Daily Trust had reported how ISWAP fighters stormed the town in a large convoy of gun trucks.

A local guard had said they stormed a military base and engaged soldiers in gunfire.

The troops were ambushed while on their way to provide support for the soldiers battling the insurgents.

“It’s a sad day for us at theatre of war; we lost Brigadier Commander (names withheld). The Brigade General and soldiers who were on their way to support our troops at Askira were ambushed and shot dead by ISWAP fighters. We are sad,” a security source said.

The source added that fighters jets have bombarded the deadly groups but the details are not available.

Details later…

Hashimyussufamao:
Who Will Arrest The Protesting Policemen?

Hashim Yussuf Amao, Ibadan

I read betwixt sadness and soliloquy, the news of Protesting Police Officers, who protested over non-payment of their gratuities at the just concluded Anambra State Gubernatorial Election. It knocked my mind with a troubling question, "who will arrest these protesting police officers?".
I know policemen arrest protesting citizens, especially, the ones that halt the smooth running of public activities. Recently however, the policemen engage more in the same act they arrest others for.
In the past, they have held protests in Kaduna, Delta, Yola, Ogun and many other states. Also, the Nationwide protest held on November 8, 2020 by the new constables who had lamented non-payment of salaries since April 2020 in which they've been recruited.
They Nigerian Policemen take so much risks to suffer late or low payment, yet, they arrest and brutalize citizens who demands better justice that would favour their conditions too, as the least paid and ill-treated Police Force in the World.
Pathetic it is, when the annual salary of a policeman at Grade Level 06 is not equal to a single consolidated salary of Nigerian senator who earns ₦700k, or do one talk of the #13.5m the "Agbada-wearing" men are given monthly amid other mouthwatering allowances, as said by ex-senator Shehu Sanni on March 7, 2018.
I watched a Video of how popular comedian, Mr Macaroni was arrested and maltreated on Feb 13, 2021 for exercising his constitutional right alongside many others at the #OccupyLekkiTollGateProtest. The comedian would later come out after his release to bemoan the bad he was met with at the hands of the Nigerian Police. Hear him, "They said in my life when next I hear police, I will run! One said if not that people would ask about me, he would have killed me."
If the Nigerian Police continues to arrest and brutalize innocent citizens who only demand a better Nigeria that the Policemen too would enjoy, who then will arrest the protesting Policemen?

Stop pitying them because they deserves no pity at all.
They hobbnobe with the authorities in power to maltreats the very masses that go on peaceful protest demanding better welfare that will even benefits them also.
I lost any sympathy for the police long time ago because they have turn themselves into instrument of oppression.

If the police is saying now that, the Ajodo of a person is a fake police officer, and that he had carried out similar raids in the past, and of which the police was fully aware of, then the police is an acomplice and complicit in all it ramifications.
They must come clean and tell the world, how a CSP of police in the person of Ajodo was going about with other senior police officers, raiding homes and houses of Nigerians without the knowledge of the police high authorities.
Do they think that we are all fools in this Country?
1. Who had been authorising such operations in the past and this last one that blew the lead?
2. Were they not reporting to someone?
3. Were their movements, both this recent one and the ones in the past, not fully booked and approvals given by some other higher police authorities.
4. The weapons and the vehicles with which they used for these operations, are there not police properties? If yes, who authorises the release of the vehicles to Ajodo and his gang of robbers in police uniforms and Identity cards?
5. Somebody must have been providing cover for this criminal gangs, so who is the person?
6. If the police has admitted that, the alleged fake CSP has work with officers in the IRT & FIB units of the police at Zone7, who are the OC's of these units? because they can not feign ignorance of the happenings in their departments.
Who was signing those operational orders?
Untill genuine answers are provided for some of these questions, the police is hiding something in this whole debacle & brouhaha.

Rights of foreign lawyers/firms

Foreign lawyers practising in Nigeria must have been admitted to the Nigerian Bar.

Without admission, a foreign lawyer cannot practise law in Nigeria except to a limited extent where he/she obtains a warrant from the Chief Justice for the purposes of a specific proceeding or appeals arising from such proceedings (see above, Temporary
services ).

In Nigeria, firms are a vehicle for organising legal practice but not as legal personalities being capable of practising law (Okafor v Nweke (2007) 10 NWLR (Pt 1043) 521 ).

Only lawyers can practise law, so foreign law firms as such cannot practise law in Nigeria. Foreign lawyers must pass the Nigerian bar exams to practise law in Nigeria.
