PoliticsRe: Lagos Deports 3105 People To Oyo, Osun Ekiti, Kano & Ondo by Minjim: 10:14am On Nov 11, 2018
It is common knowledge that the beautification
project of the Babatunde Fashola Administration
has led to the deportation of hundreds of the
jetsam and the flotsam from Lagos state to their
states of origin. The elite and the media have
been celebrating the ban on “Okada” from the
major roads and the removal of traders and area
boys from the streets. For understandable
reasons, most of the hundreds of thousands of
poor people who have been displaced and
dislodged in the operation “keep Lagos clean” are
of the Yoruba extraction.
In fact, on April 9,2009, when the Lagos state
government deported 129 beggars of Oyo state
origin and dumped them at molete in Ibadan the
Alao Akala regime alleged that the action was
aimed at sabotaging his government. Just last
week, some beggars of osun state origin were
also deported by the Lagos state government and
dumped at Osogbo.
It is sad to note that most Nigerians never took
cognisance of the war being waged by state
governments against the poor and disadvantaged
citizens in the urban renewal policy until the
much publicised case of the 14 beggars of
Anambra state origin who were deported in Lagos
and dumped in Onitsha about three weeks ago. In
fact, it was the condemnation of the deportation
by the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi
that drew the attention of the elite to the
unfortunate development. However, in defence of
its action the Lagos State Government stated that
it entered into an agreement with the Anambra
State Government through its liaison office in
Lagos on the controversial deportation.

]Although the Anambra State government has not denied the allegation that it was privy to the deportation of the 14 beggars it is on record that in Decmber 2011 the Peter Obi Administration had deported 29 beggars to their states of origin i.e Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states . Apart from such official hypocrisy the Peter Obi regime did not deem it fit to protest when the Abia state government purged its civil service of “non-indigenes” in 2012. Many of the victims of the unjust policy who hail from Anambra state were left in the lurch.

In June 2011, the Federal Capital Territory
government deported 129 beggars to their
respective states of origin. In May 2013,
hundreds of beggars were also removed from the
streets and expelled from Abuja. Of course, it is
common knowledge that the FCT authorities has
continued to demolish residential houses without
following due process in order to “restore the
masterplan of Abuja” which was distorted
through corruption and abuse of office. The
majority of the victims of such illegal demolitions
who are poor have been dislocated and forced
out of FCT.
Last week, the Rivers State Government removed
113 Nigerians from the streets of Port Harcourt
and deported them to their states of origin. The Akwa Ibom state government has just contacted its Lagos counterpart of the planned deportation of two “mad” Lagosians roaming the streets of Uyo. Many other state governments are busy deporting beggars, mad men and other destitute in the on-going beautification of state capitals.
Those who are defending the Igbo beggars out of sheer ethnic irredentism should be advised to examine the socio-economic implications of the anti-people’s urbanisation policy being
implemented by the federal and state
governments in the overall interests of the
masses.

The fact is that most governors are guilty of repriatating poor non-indigenes back to their states of origin.

Instead of APC to face the issues and tell us why Nigerians should elect them, they are playing the ethnic card. Was it not Buhari who said he cannot give the same attention to places that gave him 95% to places that gave him 5%? What kind of ethnic bigotry is that? How can a President say that? They have no achievements to show so they are facing the opposition. Shame on you APC! Stupid party!
It's the dirty game of politics. What goes around, comes around.
And politicians will use it against each others. Those that come...( people) must come with equity.
PoliticsTHROWBACK: Anambra Govt Arrests, Repatriates Beggars To Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, 2013 by Minjim(op):
Anambra state Governor, Peter Obi, has indeed fired a strongly worded letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the relocation of destitute people from his state as “illegal, unconstitutional, and a blatant violation of the human rights” of the “deportees”.

But checks by PREMIUM TIMES indicate that the Anambra state government had in the past
arrested beggars on the streets of Awka and
swiftly repatriated them to their home states of
Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom.

Below are two reports of the arrests and
“deportation” as captured by two Nigerian
newspapers at the time.

Anambra Orders Arrest Of Child Beggars
Leadership, December 4, 2011.

DAVID-CHYDDY ELEKE
The Anambra state government has issued a
warning to all street beggars, especially
children used by their parents to beg for
alms, to vacate the streets or be arrested.
29 of such women who displayed their
children as strategy for getting alms have
already been arrested in Awka and Onitsha,
and repatriated to their home states; Ebonyi
and Akwa Ibom states.
The state commissioner for Women Affairs
and Social Development, Dr. Ego Cordelia
Uzoezie, disclosed Friday in Awka when a
middle-aged woman was arrested for begging
with nine children at various points in Awka.
Uzoezie said her attention was drawn to the
spectacle when one of the children who
begged at the Unizik junction, Awka, six-year-
old Goodnews Sunday, was hit in the jaw by
an Okada rider, while he begged.
Uzoezie decried the attitude of some parents
who used their children to beg for alms, and
warned that after 72 hours any beggar seen
in the state would be arrested by the law
enforcement agents and the special task
force of the ministry of women affairs and
social development.

Anambra Govt Orders The Arrest Of Beggars
With Children, 29 Arrested So Far.

CHAMPION, DEC 4, 2011
By Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Awka
-
In its determined efforts to rid the state
environment of beggars daily increasing in
their numbers, the Anambra state
government has issued an ultimatum to all
the street beggars especially those using
children to beg in Anambra state to vacate
the streets or face arrest within 72 hours.
Meanwhile over 29 beggars with children
have been arrested in Awka and Onitsha ,
warned and repatriated back to their various
states of origin mostly Ebonyi and Akwa
Ibom states to mention but a few.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social
Development , Dr Ego Cordelia Uzoezie
disclosed Friday in Awka when a middle
aged woman was arrested begging with 9
children at various points in Awka.
The attention of Dr Uzoezie was drawn to the
beggar with children when one of the kids
begging at Unizik junction Awka , 6 years old
Goodnews Sunday was hit while begging by
an Okada operator injuring her jaw.
She was later taken to Beacon Hospital Awka
after two hospitals turned her down when
good Samaritans rushed her to hospital for
first aid. Reasons for her rejection are yet to
be ascertained as at press time.

The accident victim Goodnews said she
came from Akwa-Ibom Oron in Akwa-Ibom
state and is staying with her mother at Isu-
Aniocha but her twelve years old Sister ,

The other woman with 5 children, Mrs
Nwakaego Eze from Amafor Uli, in Ihiala
local government of Anambra state married
to Arochukwu in Abia state blamed her
begging now on week days to the dislocation
of her husband and others from the Army
barracks Onitsha as their begging before now
was only on weekends.

She further said they are now going to
Anointed Nursery/Primary School Awada
Obosi. She promised not to use the children
for begging again, if allowed to walk home

But the President General of Akwa-Ibom
Central Union, Anambra state , Sir Chris
Ekanem appealed that those who brought them to
Anambra only to subject them to begging
should be punished adding that they had
reported to the police the incident. He
revealed that the children told him in their
dialect that they were many in the state from
the same Akwa Ibom doing the same
business of begging in Anambra state. [/b]

The Igbos investment is in Pdp and not APC.

Moreover, we have over 90 political parties. Why should only Apc's action be of concern?

The Pdp shut Yorubas out and that's fair because, in PDP, Yorubas have little contribution and as such are in no position to make demands

I don’t think it’s fair to generalise it as Yorubas.
Millions of Yorubas are supporting Atiku. Just check Twitter.
It is APC and Tinubu inspired publications. Not the entire Yoruba tribe.
Thats why we say these people lack tactics in politics. You want to be president but you resent all Yorubas and Fulanis. Tell me, hows that possible?

They've started making this election about a contest between Igbos and Yorubas. They insult every Yoruba insight.
And that's how even the little Yorubas supporting Atiku will have to choose to rather support Osinbajo and defend their ethnic pride.
That was what made Jimi Agbaje lose the 2015 election in Lagos

The igbos going into business alliance with yorubas will jave a rethink

More than 10 million igbos including me go to yoruba churches in the East, lagos , other parts of Nigeria and over seas the tithe of more than N100b can be channeled to igbo churches.

Igbos spend a fortune paying school fees for their children in yoruba schools raising funds and revenue for the schools . Igbos should seek first igbo owned schools .this amount is also more than M100b
So you go to church to worship ur Yoruba pastor or for ur own belief?
