WebmastersHere Is A Better Caching Solution For Wp Sites & Blogs On A Shared Server by miracle4(op): 11:30am On Aug 01, 2013
No doubt, shared server hosting is the way to go for blogs and small business websites! Just the way we usually advice e-commerce business website owners to go for dedicated plans in order to achieve better and improved speed, we also insist on caching for blogs that are currently hosted on a shared server.

I have personally outlined the reasons why must run away from WP Super Cache and W3 Total Cache if you are currently hosting your site on a shared server.

I also provided really better alternatives for you .

WebmastersRe: Things Web Developers Must Achieve by miracle4(m): 12:30pm On Jul 28, 2013
GraphicsPlus: Ok. Every web developer may not be able to achieve all these, but I think every web developer should at least achieve 3 of these. Check them out and tell me where I didn't make any sense.

1. Develop a robust web application that will continue to make you money for years.

2. Be invited to speak at a web design conference in America or Europe or host one in Africa.

3. Develop an opensource web application that will be used widely.

4. Write a ground-breaking book on the art of web design and development.

5. Develop at least 50 wordpress or drupal or joomla or expressionengine themes and make them available for download.

6. Develop a new framework of any language you are proficient in.

7. Develop a widely used plugin for Wordpress or any other CMS.

8. Develop an opensource application that will force Nigerian government to honour you. Like developing a language translation application for English to Hausa or Igbo or Yoruba or Nupe. And then Hausa to Yoruba, Hausa to Igbo, Igbo to Yoruba, Igbo to Hausa, Yoruba to Hausa, Yoruba to Igbo and so on.

9. Develop a comprehensive quality video tutorial from html to advanced php and provide it for free download. Or be doing a weekly podcast or screencast on web design tips.

10. Build a web developers centre where developers can come together and brainstorm and relax.
From now onwards I set this 10 tips as one of my dreams as an aspiring future most-sought after programmer... thanks for sharing @gplus ....
WebmastersOfficial SMF Support Site's Security Bridged And Passwords Stolen by miracle4(op): 11:18am On Jul 28, 2013
Official SMF support site's Security bridged and Passwords Stolen-- what does this mean to you as a user there?

I personally do not own an smf site of my own but was planning to get one since my oga at the top told me that it was completely free.

So I had to join their official support forum and was just alerted today via email about the bridge of their internal database security via one of their admin password.

I could remember when similar thing like this happened in a forum I once belonged to, my password was stolen and was used to post ridiculous things on African Most Populated and visited forum "nairaland.com".

With this development I was even afraid my account here will be h*cked being a moderator here.

So I will urge you to change your passwords in any site or services you have registered to using same credentials as the one you used on your Simple Machines Forum account as this will help reduce the possibility of h*ckers messing with your account or stealing from your friends and colleagues using your email account.

Here is the exact message I got from the smf team.

Quote
Dear valued community members,

On the 22nd of July 2013, it was discovered that unauthorized access to our website and database has been obtained on the 20th of July.
The method is similar to the h*cks that were recently conducted at other websites, even though those sites used other software.
One of the admin accounts password was discovered, and from there further escalation wasn't too difficult considering admin privileges can do just about anything.

Unfortunately, we are 100% sure that our user database has been stolen.
As such we HIGHLY RECOMMEND, even implore you, to:
1.) Change your password on other websites you are using, if you use the same password there. This is very important to do, as it also will help prevent other websites being h*cked through your compromised password, if it is compromised.
2.) Change your password here on our website.
3.) If you use the password you use here anywhere else, say for example to login to your webhost, it is highly urged to change it.
4.) Please note that personal messages may have also been compromised. We don't know for sure if the h*cker only downloaded the user tables or not, although that's the only thing he/she is after. If they did: keep in mind that passwords you shared through PM should now be considered vulnerable. It's best not to take the risk and g*mble, and just change any password you shared through PM as well.
5.) Charter members, current and past, are encouraged to change ALL passwords if they ever sent any in to us. That would include FTP.

Please keep in mind:
This is !!NOT!! a security issue with the SMF software. If you are running the latest SMF version you have nothing to fear from this h*ck if you use different passwords.

The method used by the h*cker is that a database is downloaded from another h*cked website, the passwords are attempted to be decrypted and if it is successful: they try to login to other websites using that username & password, or try to cross-reference by using password reset links.
Unfortunately for us, a Administrator used the same password elsewhere on another site and access to our site was obtained when the password from the other h*cked site was successfully decrypted. As a result, the h*cker was able to login here with admin rights.
Hundreds of websites have been h*cked lately by using this method, so you are highly encouraged to change your passwords...

... And remember: don't use the same password on multiple sites!
It helps to prevent h*cks like this.

Thank you for your consideration and we deeply apologize for any inconvenience this causes for you.
By changing your passwords, you will help ensure that other sites do not fall victim to this method of h*cking and help put a halt to the h*cking spree that has affected hundreds, if not thousands, of websites already.

Any questions, please do feel free to ask.
Please stay on topic.

Kind regards,
Board of Directors

ComputersNew Anti-virus Software Discovers Facebook Steal Users’ Data on Android Os by miracle4(op): 3:47am On Jul 28, 2013
Thursday, July 04, 2013 - THE mobile anti-virus and anti-malware software produced by Norton discovered that the Facebook application for Android was secretly identifying users’ phone numbers and sending them to Facebook’s servers. This news is especially interesting given Facebook’s role in the recently revealed National Security Agency programs. Indeed, Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly met with Facebook executives to discuss the program.

Facebook also enjoys a cozy relationship with the intelligence community. The former chief security officer for Facebook left the internet giant for the NSA and the company quite clearly works with government as the latest leaks have shown. A student group in Europe has also filed a complaint against Facebook over the handling of private data and last year a report revealed that Facebook was spying on smartphone users’ text messages.

In this latest instance of the violation of user privacy, Facebook’s Android application leaked the user’s phone number even before logging in. This happened the first time the user launched the Facebook application and the number “will be sent over the Internet to Facebook servers.”

“You do not need to provide your phone number, log in, initiate a specific action, or even need a Facebook account for this to happen,” Norton said in an official post. A “significant portion” of the hundreds of millions of people who have installed the Facebook application were affected, according to Norton, the makers of Symantec.

It’s worth noting that in the past, Symantec has published information on an intelligence gathering virus based on the U.S./Israeli-made Stuxnet worm and one Symantec researcher revealed that the U.S. targeted an Iranian nuclear research facility before it was built. However, last year Symantec also backed CISPA, a highly controversial piece of legislation. Facebook told Norton that they “investigated the issue and will provide a fix in their next Facebook for Android release.”

“They stated they did not use or process the phone numbers and have deleted them from their servers,” Norton stated in the post. Far more worrisome, however, is the fact that Norton says it is not the only application guilty of leaking private data. “Unfortunately, the Facebook application is not the only application leaking private data or even the worst,” the company said. “We will continue to post information about risky applications to this blog in the upcoming weeks.”

Google Play has a quite abysmal privacy history. Earlier this year it was reported that Google was sending highly personal information to application developers without users consent or knowledge. Just nine days ago, it was also reported that Facebook leaked the contact information of some six million users.

quite awesome job, though I personally have my take on using free wordpress themes for major projects.

The ..... instead of read more or continue reading is also a kinda turn off for me same for the slider showing under sigle post.

Using wp conditional statement could have taken care of such issues .

eg if ['home' || 'front_page'] etc.

good job overall

WebmastersRe: Please Dash Me Another Review Pals by miracle4(op): 6:58am On Jul 15, 2013
GraphicsPlus: Well done. It's cleaner now and less cluttered. I must tell you that you really revamped the site. It looks more professional now especially the styling of the blog title topics. I opened one of the blog topics and I really like the way you styled the entire article.

However, I have one or two observations.
1. I am still not a fan of over-using text-shadow. You told me the other time that it will reduce bounce rate. No sir. It will increase it. Unless it's not people like me that visit such site. If i visit a site that over-used text-shadow i will just close the website. I so much admire the neatness and professionalism of: http://www.copyblogger.com/

2. The footer needs some breathing space at the right and left. A padding will do.

3. You can make the main image illustrating each topic to be a link back to the article with alt text that describes the image. Like: <img src="sybla-tv.jpg" alt="image of symbla tv"/>

Check the images below for the text-shadow I dislike and the footer that needs padding.
Well done sir.
All noticed error corrected, shadows removed. Going for a decent menu now

I have just applied 10px padding to the footer notes you pointed out, changed the hover color to while...... the biggest decider in the color shadow effect will definitely be a better color suggestion other than the ash .

All my images has the alt tag and description too, they also link to the original articles by default
