We moved to Ontario, Canada on the 29th of December and we do not regret the move at all.

My husband got a very good job after his first interview. He did not have any Canadian education or work experience and did not have to do any menial job.

I advise you do your research properly before landing. Where you settle and the people you interact with will determine to a large extent how far you will go in Canada. Prayer and trust in God also helped us alot.

It is not easy settling in a new country but it is possible to have a great life here.

I wish you all the best.

truthsayer009:
Someone please educate me!!! [Mods, if you feel this thread is a distraction, you can kindly close it - No worries ]

Canada is very welcoming to Immigrants & allowed professionals to freely come in via the PR programme & become a citizen in 3 years.
Canadians want new Immigrants who are Doctors, Accountants & all other Professionals in their field but want them to do menial jobs.

Over the course of some months from deep research, I have found out that a lot of Nigerians who live their Bank work, Businesses etc travel over to Canada to either become Cab drivers or Security guards.

Knowing you have to pay for rent for a couple few months when you get there as a PR immigrant before eventually getting a job (IF you actually get). The money you take with you isn't actually enough in most cases.

Even after going to School for MSC, there is no guarantee that the Jobs are waiting for you. As there are a lot of immigrants Trooping in daily.
If you don’t do menial jobs, Drive Trucks, Cab Driving, Security Guards as the stories I have heard.

Is there any one here who actually made it easy & straight forward being in Canada without doing Unskilled jobs?

Please kindly indicate.

I used Dr. Dama in June and he did not use my test and scans from Nigeria. The test costs about $270 while the scan cost $150 in Oakbend.

debby516:
Pls, can any recent mum who birthed at Methodist Sugarland share a breakdown of her hospital fees, pls. I am getting conflicting quotes and figures. Also, for those who used Dr. Dama, did u take along ur tests results or all tests and ultrasound done by the Dr. was covered by his cap fee. Thank you.

My baby boy arrived on the 17th of June at 34 weeks. He waited till we 'crossed over' before making his early appearance as I got into the US 8 days earlier.

Had my baby in Oakbend with Dr Dama Ziwortin.... Had to have a C-section as my baby was in a transverse position. It was the best experience of my life as I felt no pains at all during delivery... Before (even though I was in active labour and contracting), during (thanks to the epidural... I guess) and after the surgery (definitely God's grace). I was placed on pain medication afterwards but I didn't need them as I was in no pain whatsoever. This is God's grace and mercy solely because at many points I almost lost this baby but God's mercies kept him.

After experiencing a miscarriage last year for no understandable reason I felt empty and prayed earnestly for God's help and he came through mightily for me. I am so humbled by the whole process of having a baby. I has taught me to trust God more especially as an independent and supposedly strong woman. It is truly not by power nor by might.

I was discharged after two days but my baby was taken to NICU.... Where they kept him for 12 days. I practically had to beg them to discharge my son as they said he had to gain some weight before they let him go. So they were only feeding and changing his diapers.... I could have done that from home. They slammed me with a bill of $7,900 afterwards which was later discounted to $5095 if we paid fully within a week.

My advise is alway be prepared for unseen situations. I planned to spend $6900 for a normal delivery but I ended up spending $13,500.

Baby is healthy, Mummy is health that's the testimony of supernatural childbirth for me! As a FTM I'm blessed to have experienced this.

Thanks to all the peeps that keep this thread alive. I learnt so much by just reading. God bless you loads.

I went a day before my trip and I was not given. Arik insists it must be the same day as your trip.

happytbaby:
Do you mean if i go to Port Health like 2days before my trip, they will not give me? I am planning to go a few days before my trip in order to know if there will be any issues so I can re-strategize accordingly.

I flew arik at 32 weeks 5 days on the 7th of June. They accept only fit to fly from the health port authority only. I'm not sure about the cutoff time but the lady in Port health authority measured my tummy with a tape and wrote I was 29 weeks!

I gave it to them and took my flight. It costs N1, 500 and you can get it only on the day you are scheduled to trave only.

veleta:
Good evening everyone, pls who has used Arik to Newyork recently, are they very strict on their 33weeks policy on pregnant women, the fit to fly must it be from Port Health or your dr?thanks

I had my baby at Oakbend on Friday and it was amazing! Dr Dama and his team were on their A* game. The nurses afterwards were fantastic. They showed so much empathy and care and I was discharged yesterday.

Dr F still took a delivery on Friday at Oakbend and has one today that I am aware of.

This is my first baby so I don't have any previous experience to compare it with but I don't regret any part of my baby's birth story/plan.

favoredgal:

I had a baby in oakbend in Jan 2016. It was crap compared to 2014 when I had my first

I arrived New York this morning... POE was a breeze. So thankful to all active contributors on this thread. I have learnt so much which I applied from the point of my visa renewal to not misrepresentating at any point.

Did my visa renewal via Dropbox... I selected B2 and stated Oakbend as my contact organization. I thought I would be called in for an interview but I wasn't. Visa was ready after 5 working days.

I wasn't able to get PTA before traveling after opening accounts with all the banks! I just carried the $1,000 I had though I had paid my doctor and hospital bill in February.

POE of entry was bae... I spent about two minutes.

VO. What are you here for?
Me: To have my baby and vacation
VO: acted surprised... Are you pregnant now?
Me: Yes I am... While taking a step back to show him my bump.
VO: Congratulations. How do you intend to pay for the bills?
Me: I paid over 80% of my bill in February. I hand him the letter of appointment from Dr Dama which contained my total bill and how much I have paid so far as well as the receipts.
VO: What do you do in Nigeria?
Me: I work for a Bank as a xxxxxxxxx
VO: He looks through the appointment letterand stamps me in for 6 months.

Off to Agriculture because I ticked I am bringing food into the US. My bags were just scanned without being opened.

I'm now at JetBlue's terminal waiting for my connecting flight.

Thank you once again... This thread has been a blessing. I jacked and followed the thread like there was no tomorrow... My husband did not understand at one point.

May God give us all easy POE entries and safe deliveries.

Thank you so much. I am also using Oakbend and Dr Dama says the cerclage would be removed at 37 weeks he is however yet to give me the cost. I would just patiently wait for him.

Thanks again.

A friend was sent back at the POE last week despite having zero balance from MIHS for those reasons.

Varvara:

What happened? I will travel in August and I will bring with me my zero balance from MIHS. I hope I won't have any issue

Please has any previous MIHS mum had issues with visa renewal or not allowed entry into the US by immigration stating that the cost for the maternity package was discounted by the government hence they made use of government funds.

And how were you able to resolve it.

It's usually issued as B1/B2. But I selected B2 specifically because I wanted it to be clear I was travelling on medical grounds. I also stated the name of my hospital on the DS160 form.

Maybe I had "liver" because I had paid my bills earlier this year and I was ready for an interview with a lot of supporting documents if I was called.

quote author=Mumtwins2 post=45289133]
Thank you so much for your earlier response .... Does B1/B2 not cover Medicaid as well ? I just want to be sure [/quote]

I ticked B2 for my renewal.

Jiji11:

Hi, apologies but pls did you tick B2(tourism/medical) or B1/B2 (tourism/conference) for your renewal.

No i wasn't called in for an interview though I hear some people are called in for interviews upon renewing their visas via Dropbox.

Mumtwins2:
thank you so much .... Did they call you for interview ?
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by mismarshal(f): 1:13pm On May 03, 2016
I advise you renew your visa before travelling although you can you use your existing visa for the trip. You would be at the mercy of the CBP who can decide to stamp you in for the validity of your visa only or longer.

I am due in July and intend to travel in June. My last visa was to expire in June but I renewed in April to avoid stories at the POE. I was issued another 2 year visa while the last one was cancelled without prejudice as you can't have two valid visas running at the same time.
Mumtwins2:
Please help me ... I had my fist visa in 2010 and I used it ... I renewed in London wen I was still in school and was given 2 years ... Which is due to expire July . I could Not use it cos I rounded up my course August last year and I had to start a new job in Nigeria by September .... It expires July and my baby is due August .... Should I renew before I travel or use it like that ? I am so confused . I plan to travel June ... Early June . Thanks a lot everyone
