what kinda wisdom is this? shotgun marriage? some of us like to do things the legal way. i have no problem at all with that tradition. men have to prove themselves worthy - the bride's family must be sure the groom can afford to take care of their daughter - however, the bride must know her position in her husband's house. he is the head while she's the deputy.

i don't have a problem with the culture cos i know the bride is not my equal. my in-laws can charge N50m if they so please......let the men who have a problem with paying the bride price fight their cause!

however, a woman who allowed herself to be bought like a piece of furniture has no right to claim gender equality. she was formally educated like the man that was asked to pay for her.....she probably makes as much money as the man paying her brideprice so i don't see anything else but hypocrisy here.

On a further note,u could engage in laundry bussiness,draw ur clientelle from lecturers,bankers & people in the corporate world,I bet u'll be thankful.If u stay off campus,the best for u.Increase ur customer base by charging a bit less than what is charged from open laundromats & ensure u deliver quality & timely service.U'll be glad u did.

Evil doesn't predate God, and it must have an origin, my simple question has been, where did it originally emanate from? Before anything got corrupted, everything was perfect, everything was under God's jurisdiction; even the so called Lucifer...what happened?

I have a soft spot for everyone and every experience that I've had to encounter to become the person I am today.

I post these things, not because, I'm an ardent bible reader, but because they make sense to me and somehow I believe that it'll inspire someone out there.

I have my convictions.

Yet, if I see an article that'll benefit a Christian, Atheist, Agnostic, Muslim or Budhist.......as long as it gives me a sense of peace....I'll share it.

The dismal part is that this isn't even about the defending the Christian God, because as is evidenced on this thread, the average/typical Christian doesn't believe what I first posted about their God.

They are strongly convinced that their God is Good and Evil at the same time. Because He is the almighty.

Well, what can I say.....if it give them a sense of peace and satisfaction to think that way, then by all means, let them keep on.

I made an interesting observation 2 days ago.

If you're earnestly looking to believe in a God, there is more than enough evidence to point in that direction.

If you're earnestly looking to disbelieve in a God, there's a million and one evidence to point in that direction.

I hate religious talks, I have been avoiding this section.
I hate the the toll it takes on me.
I hate the divide it causes.

It is evident that no matter what you say or do, Mr A would never subscribe to Mr B's beliefs......so why stress it, why mar the beauty of our unity, despite our diversities.

We take arguments too far in this section, too far.

I maintain that the answers we seek about God or Un-God lies within, not without (Bible Inclusive).

I have observed that in this section, there is so much divide and disdain.
Imagine a christian who is supposed to be in the image and likeness of Christ calling a fellow human a Satanist.

I am not saying that we shouldn't raise topics or ask questions......but then, I have observed, from all sections of the divide (mine inclusive), that what we do, or should I say our motive, is to show to others how our realities, our worldviews and our beliefs/unbeliefs certainly trumps theirs.


More oft than not, We make comments or post topics, not because we truly love people and have their best interests at heart or because we really, really want to learn. Instead we do so, with a deep underlying motive, which most times, is not so evident to us.........we want to be correct, we want to show them how high we've come, we want them to believe in what we believe - whether or not it gives them a sense of peace.


It makes us become the very thing we try to emancipate ourselves from, religious/unreligious bigots.....and it's attendant unpleasantness.

Early in the mornings, in the buses, TV and radio stations, even in the comfort of our homes, Christians are doing what they feel is their mission on earth. They preach!! They tell you you are wicked because you are a lady and u wear wig, earring or trouser. They tell u that u are condemned to hell because u are a Muslim. They tell u are sinful and dirty because you don't go to church or pay ur tithe. The Muslims are not left out. They call u infidels because you are not a Muslim. They wake you up by five thirty in the morning with meaningless noise. U must listen.

Nairaland religious section is one place I talk about this arrogance being shoved into our mouths. U see people u are morally better than condemn u for not believing what they do and you wouldn't want to ask them bothering questions when you get the chance? You will not ridicle them when u gt the chance?

This war will continue till eternity.

@ Poster, u did'nt state your proximity to school either off or on campus, neither if u usually return 2 school with foodstuffs besides beverages(provisions).Anyways,the best way to make do with this amount in a month & even save from it, is to ensure u get enough assorted foodstuffs to cover every category of meal u desire for that semester before returning to school,so that the 10k allowance can only be used for a few necessities & contigencies.On a side note,u need to augment ur allowance by making an extra income through some small-scale businesses like sale of recharge cards,typing assignments/term papers,projects etc for students if u have a PC and printer, also, doing assignments for indolent students & equally keeping urself busy atimes in any legitimate bussiness during holiday periods.U don't really have to be so dependent on ur parents,for the fact that u have 3 other siblings should sound a note of encouragement to wake up.

There's nothing like independent woman because every woman depends on a man financially/materially/intellectually, but not all men are dependent on women financially/materially/intellectually

If you really buy into what you've just said now, then why shouldn't a woman stay interested in only men who have monetary worth? Why do men feel so bad when she leaves for lack of financial gain? Does it make the man a liability too?

You need to stop limiting yourself to certain things. If as a woman my major interest in a man was that he met my emotional needs, then his financial abilities would only serve as a plus. If he is unable to meet that need for whatever reason, save for providing money, then he is of no use to me. This is why I say no woman is a liability; you just haven't identified her as the sort of asset you need.

So I created this thread to get better views on who/what people think/believe an independent woman is/should be. A lady (firstEva) talked about her boyfriend having two cars yet she has to 'trek' about town, asking if it isn't selfish of him not to give her one, now I see nothing wrong in her wanting to share her boyfriend's car, only thing is, she didn't ask but almost everyone sounded like she committed a heinous crime for even just harboring the thought of ever using his car, shior! .

I believe an independent woman is one who can take care of herself but that doesn't mean she can't ask her man for stuffs when she needs it and ofcourse he gets to do same.

I'm only asking because from what I read yesterday, people sounded like an Independent woman is one who doesn't ask her man for anything whatsoever, I come dey wonder, if I can share my body, my time, my brain, my energy etc with my man, what then is a 'ducking' car?
