Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday urged residents of the State to come out and register for the National Identity Card scheme being administered by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), saying compliance would enhance proper planning and facilitate national development.



Speaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja after registering for the scheme, Governor Ambode said it was important for people to register for the scheme, as such would go a long way to scale up data planning and financial planning, as well as boost the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

A 35-year-old Nigerian man Francis Ibegbulem,was laid to rest on Tuesday after he committed suicide in Altenstadt Bayern, Germany.



According to reports, Ibegbulem, from Imo State, made an initial attempt to kill himself with a knife. He was then rescued by friends after which he ran into the forest to hang himself. His corpse was then discovered in a nearby forest,days after he went missing.



However, some of his friends allege he had hallucinations about being chased by unseen beings and would often soliloquize , prompting his company to sack him.



Others say he got jilted by a girl he left in Nigeria after investing so much in her .He also found out she got married to another man in 2017.



The issue left him seriously heartbroken .

According to media reports, one of his friends who was interviewed says:

“We made so much effort to rescue Francis when it was obvious he was losing his mind. Everyone was aware of the lady he was dating before he left Nigeria and news spread to use here that she got married last year. Since then Francis has not been the same”

DON Waney’s empire of crime keeps collapsing after his bloody end, which was ignited by the New Year’s Day killings in Omoku, Rivers State.

Emenike Agamu (aka General Red Scorpion), who is said to be the fourth in-command in the Don Waney cult gang, yesterday surrendered his arms to security operatives in Owerri, the Imo State capital. Members of the group were declared wanted and its leader, John Igwedibe (aka Don Waney) was gunned down in Enugu by security agents.

His younger brother was shot dead days later.

It was later found out that the group had bases across the Southsouth and Southeast, including the Imo riverine community which borders Rivers State.

Agamu, who is among the suspected cultists declared wanted by the Rivers State government, surrendered alongside other Don Waney boys who had earlier rejected the government’s amnesty offer.

The Nation reports that, Red Scorpion confessed that the militant group killed many people and blew up many oil pipelines.

The group submitted explosives, rocket launchers and high calibre rifles, such as AK47, among others.

Receiving the repentant militants, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha said the development would ensure lasting peace in the oil producing areas.

He said:

“It is very shocking to note that most of the activists of the Avengers and those of Don Waney operatives are our sons and daughters and their surrendering arms will end the security challenges we have in the Ohaji/Egbema, Awara and the rest of the areas where people have been on self-exile for many years.”

He added: “Today, we are welcoming back our brothers and sisters who have remained in the creeks and forest for so many years, perpetuating all kinds of evil, killing and maiming human beings.

“But today, glory to God, these our children have decided on their own to come back to the society and be part of the society.

“They are doing so on their own, surrendering arms which they have used in committing criminal activities for what they called expression of grievances of different sorts.

“We, as a government, are happy, particularly that these young boys and girls will now come back as good citizens of Imo State. We are here to receive them and listen to them. What they say today will determine the role of government in assisting them and making sure they become good citizens once more. It is the wish of the Niger Delta people to welcome you back as good citizens.”

The governor recalled that three weeks ago, Don Waney was killed.

Most of these boys are his colleagues and generals in the bush. Today, we are gladdened that the lives of these boys have not been left in the hands of the military and police who would have wasted them but today they are being reintegrated into our society to become good citizens,” he said, adding:

”We as a government that is sensitive to the plight of the people are here to intervene before the matter gets out of hand. Last year and last two years, we did a similar exercise and most of those youths are now doing well.”

“We want to remove terror from Ohaji/Egbema. This is one of my campaign promises that I will change the lives of Ohaji/Egbema people. Terror is going out from the region. These are the children that drove away their traditional rulers, parents and brothers but today the story is different. We don’t want to hear the stories of Avengers and Don Waney again.

“The state has forgiven them and will subsequently give their names to the Federal Government for amnesty.”

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has disclosed the details of a conversation he had with superstar Nigerian musician, Wizkid.



He made the revelation in his keynote address at the Georgetown University African Business Conference in Washington DC, United States on Saturday.



Saraki said that the artiste, who is widely regarded as Nigeria’s biggest music export, told him how he (Wizkid) sold out 40,000 tickets for a concert in Gabon, a Francophone country.



The former Kwara state governor said Wizkid also told him that he was astonished that Gabonese fans could fill the venue of his concert despite not understanding a word of his lyrics.



Saraki said,

“Our Entertainment industry, which has grown tremendously over the last 20 years – provides us with value addition and a comparative advantage – as our artists have risen from local champions to global recognition.”

Nigeria Premier League campaigners, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club, were involved in an auto crash on Sunday.


The incident, according to an eyewitness, occurred in Akungba, Ondo State at about 4pm on their way back to Lagos from Jos, Plateau State.


It was also learnt that no life was lost but some members of the team, including the head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, sustained various degree of injuries.


The coach, we gathered, recently recovered from an illness.


MFM suffered a lone goal defeat to Plateau United in Match Day 5 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.


It can be recalled that NPFL returnee, Kwara United, suffered a similar crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway a few weeks ago.


MFM FC was yet to issue a statement as at press time.

Davido's crew member, Umarudeen Kayode aka Tyconne has finally been released from prison after meeting his bail condition. If you recall, the former US military officer was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on January 11th after an argument over verification of luggage with officials went awry.

Kayode was arrested for allegedly beating up officials during a struggle to verify the luggage they came in from Dubai with and also during an attempt to arrest him for his violent reaction. He was arraigned the next day (January 12th) before an Ikeja Magistrate court and charged for assault, breach of public peace and resisting arrest.

Big Brother Naija 2017 winner Michel Ejeba aka Efe and top rapper Olamide aka Baddo, have shot the music video for the collaboration titled, ‘Warri’, which was dropped late last year.



The video shot by Avalon Okpe, featured King Baddo and Efe, who both have ties to the hood hit the streets.



Efe has never shied away from representing his area, `Warri’ further reiterated this on this new track alongside Baddo.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has denied claims that Engineering Department of the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), its upstream subsidiary, is recruiting as advertised on social media.


The NNPC asked the public to disregard the trending adverts in some social media platforms seeking for applications to fill phantom positions in the agency.

In a statement signed by Ndu Ughamadu, its spokesperson, the NNPC said that neither the corporation nor NETCO was responsible for the said advert.

The statement obtained by www.newshelmng.com called on members of the public to be wary of the activities of scammers as the corporation was currently not recruiting. NNPC stressed that anyone who entertains such invitations does so at his or her own risk.

The corporation advised those already contacted for the purpose of the fake recruitment to report such invitations to relevant law enforcement agencies.

It added that the NNPC would continue to interface with law enforcement agency to bring the scammers to book.

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday in China, expanded the portfolio of foreign investments in the state following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese consortium for a 5,500 barrel per day modular refinery in Edo State.
