Ahead of 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has agreed on a harmonized timetable with other examination bodies in the country to have a hitch free examination. The Board at a brainstorming meeting with National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Business and Technical Examination (NABTEB) held at the national headquarters of the Board in Abuja unanimously agreed to harmonize the examination timetable because of the candidates desire for qualitative tertiary education. The harmonised examination timetable has put to rest problems arising from overlapping of examination dates, which would have disenfranchised a sizeable number of candidates. At the end of the brainstorming session, the bodies resolved that WAEC would speak to all its authorities that from 2018, between March and April, for a window of two (2) weeks be created where all other examinations that have nothing to do with Nigeria will be held so as to allow a window for JAMB to conduct its examination. The bodies agreed that for the purpose of the 2017 UTME, JAMB will shift its examinations to allow students face WAEC, NECO and NABTEB. However, a ten-day window for JAMB'S UTME has been created by all examination bodies for JAMB to conduct it's examination. In view of this, JAMB will soon announce the commencement of sale of the 2017/2018 admission forms for UTME and Direct Entry (DE). JAMB emphasises the fact that whoever is presently collecting any money in the name of JAMB form should be reported to the Police or any other security agency as fraudster. NECO and NABTEB have also adjusted their examination timetables to avoid overlap in subjects that are common to the two (2) examination bodies. A Committee was set up to critically appraise the mandates of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, the three (3) examination bodies to make sure that each body sticks to their original mandate and with the possibility of working together in a synergy that they lead to collaborative examination for the purpose of students having results at one (1) sitting rather than separate sittings. The essence of the meeting is to continually find solutions to challenges faced by candidates in the cause of their desire for tertiary education. Again, the Board is using this opportunity to inform Nigerians that it has not commenced the sales of its application documents. The forms will be out as soon as all critical planning are concluded to ensure a smooth examination in 2017. The attention of the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has been drawn to a video and pictures being circulated on the purported killing of black immigrants in Libya. While the authenticity of the pictures and tapes in question cannot be verified, it is a known fact that Libya has been executing alleged black illegal immigrants for years. The office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora hereby appeals again to Nigerian migrants to avoid Libya as penalty for illegal migration to Libya, when caught, is usually a death sentence. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/photos-making-rounds-about-abike.html cc lalasticlala

The Comrade senator, Shehu Sani representing Kaduna central senatorial district may have just taught his counterpart, Senator Ben Murray Bruce of the Bayelsa senatorial district few common sense as a politician. Senator Sani on his social media platform advised politicians, including colleagues who are into the business of giving “Man of the Year” award to avoid elective or public offices. It would be recalled on January 1st, 2017, the common sense Senator, Ben Bruce announced the governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano has the Silverbird Man of the Year, 2016. Mr. Bruce said governor Obiano got the highest number of votes among the four nominees, shortlisted for the prestigious award, for prudent management of resources and embarking on massive infrastructural development in the state. But Mr Sani did not seem well with the Award programme as he said: “It will be noble for those in the business of giving out "Man of the year" award to avoid elected and appointed public office holders and consider giving it to the ordinary man or the suffering poor bearing the brunt of economic reforms or the multitude of the displaced in the North East”. No reaction yet from the Bayelsa born senator. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/shehu-sani-teaches-ben-bruce-common.html cc lalasticlala

MMM Nigeria Subscribers Set To Legalise Scheme As They Set To Meet National Assembly The controversial Ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM), Nigeria subscribers are undaunted despite temporary closure of the operations as they plan to meet with the House of Representatives’ committees on finance and banking and currency to seek for government’s recognition of the scheme. The MMM community in Abuja, which is coordinating the planned meeting, said it hopes to submit a proposal for the amendment of the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Acts (BOFIA) to legalise the operations of the scheme and similar money initiatives in the country. A member of the steering committee of the MMM community, Chief Mike Chukwuma, who told New Telegraph, that MMM has helped immensely in easing the pains of recession. He said instead of discouraging Nigerians from participating in the financial self-help scheme, the government should rather legalise its activities so that it could be monitored and regulated. Recall that theHouse of representatives had, in November last year, passed a resolution seeking the abolition of the financial policy and probe of its promoters in the country. The resolution was sequel to the adoption of a motion moved by Saheed Akinade Fijabi (APC, Oyo) who lamented the widespread acceptance by Nigerians of the unregulated scheme, established in 1989 by three Russian nationals with a promise that participants would make 30 per cent on investment after 30 days. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/mmm-nigeria-subscribers-set-to-legalise.html cc lalasticlala |

A magistrate court sitting in Osogbo has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, to arrest the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and bring him to court on January 6, 2017. The magistrate, Olusola Aluko, gave the fresh order on Friday when the case involving the monarch came up for hearing again. He said he was surprised that the CP had not arrested the Oluwo since he first issued the bench warrant of arrest against the first-class monarch. Aluko expressed dismay that the CP had not effected the bench warrant of arrest he issued against the monarch, which he said he signed and handed over to an officer of the state Police Command. He said, “I am baffled that the Commissioner of Police has not done his duty. I am also surprised by his claim that he was unaware of the bench warrant. That must be a joke of the century. I, therefore, ordered him to immediately arrest the respondent. “I am not joking with my order. He (Oba Akanbi) should be arrested and brought to this court on Friday, January 6, 2017. The sanctity of the judiciary must be protected.” Aluko said the case instituted by the Oluwo Oke of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, against Oba Akanbi before his court was not a chieftaincy case but a criminal one. http://www.newshelm.com/2016/12/court-orders-osun-police-commissioner.html cc lalasticlala
