Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Hajiya Amina Mohammed passed the night in Borno State after assessment visit to Bama in company of Governor Kashim Shettima on Wednesday. With Bama recorded as worst destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists, the DSG said she was in the town, once occupied by Boko Haram, to assess gaps in humanitarian needs, and reconstruction efforts recorded by Government so she could report back to the UN in order to identify areas of intervention.



Our correspondent reports that about one million private houses, 665 Government buildings, 5,335 classrooms, 201 healthcare centres, ‎776 electricity installations were recorded destroyed by Boko Haram according to a Recovery and Peace Building Assessment Report released in 2016, which was jointly authored by the World Bank, the European Union, the Nigerian Presidency, Government of six States in the northeast, and other local and international stakeholders.

A young Nigerian teenager has inspired a lot of Nigerians after he built a house. The 16-year-old boy who built the nice mud house with clay in Edo state was captured n camera after the house was done. The 16-year-old boy identified as Lateef Ambudu showed his talent in construction by building a house with clay.


wwww.newshelmng.com came across the story of the young boy after a video of him surfaced on Facebook. In the video, Ambudu was seen standing beside the nice mud house as he was filmed by residents in his area.


The one story house was nicely constructed with a stairs, two pillars, a roof and so many other essentials needed to present a perfect building. Nigerians are really talented. Many teenagers have been discovered making their creative ideas into reality.


They have given their minds the ability to imagine and put their imaginations into incredible realities.

A loaded container fell off its truck at Warf Road Apapa today. No casualty were recorded thankfully as the container fell of its truck.

Nasir el-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, visited Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, at the church auditorium in Lagos on Sunday.

This visit is coming one week after the fiery preacher declared his intention to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not stating when exactly he would run for office.

El-Rufai, who was one of the persons who pleaded with the pastor to run alongside President Muhammadu Buhari in 2011, came into the church auditorium on Sunday afternoon, while Bakare was preaching.

The pastor welcomed the governor with a hug, and said: “I have missed you… it is a good time to come”.

Bakare had said earlier in the service that all those putting up deliberate sinful silence (DSS) about the killings in Benue would pay for it.

“We cannot keep quiet while hardened murderers and criminals fill our land with the crimes of blood. That would be DSS… deliberate sinful silence, and i think secret service is guilty of that,” he said

Buhari, el-Rufai and Bakare have come ‘a long way’

“The brutal murder going on in Benue state and other parts of Nigeria is very attrocious and wicked. There will be consequences of this dastard murder. Every one involved in one way or the other, either overtly or covertly, shall pay for it”

Neither Bakare nor el-Rufai disclosed the reason for the governor’s visit.

A Nigerian man has cried out online when he discovered that the child he thought he fathered is not his son.

He claimed that he traveled out of Nigeria for a month after the boy was given birth to only for him to come back to hear news of how his wife has been seen with different men in the area. The man proceeded to run a paternity which confirmed he isn't the father of the 3-years-old boy.

The young man asked his wife to take a oath to vindicate herself from the accusation but she refused and denied the allegation. The man also claimed that she has slept with one of his friends and his co-tenant.

Five trucks and other properties worth millions of naira have on Thursday been destroyed by a fire outbreak which occurred at the Nigerian customs warehouse located at Ikeja, Lagos.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock and outrage at the reported of killings of innocent persons in Omoku, Rivers State; and murders of the traditional ruler, the Etum Numana, Dr. Gambo Makama, and his wife in Sango Local Government Area of Kaduna State on new year's day.

A statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said Buhari described the incidents as “reprehensible and unacceptable.”

He directed law enforcement agencies in both states to intensify their current efforts in order to speedily bring the perpetrators to face the wrath of the law.

He also appealed to the communities affected not to embark on reprisal attacks, but to allow security agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations to properly punish the culprits.

A Pastor of one of the Pentecostal churches in Ungwar Romi area of Kaduna state, identified as Samuel Hamza reportedly committed suicide.


According to eyewitnesses, he was hung himself on a tree and was found dangling by his neighbors on Friday night. Though the reason for the suicide is not known, but it was gathered that the Father of one who didn’t drop any suicide letter, has been depressed since he lost his wife in 2015.

Friday 22nd December marked the wedding fatiha of 4 female indigenes of Birnin Kebbi Children's home.



The event at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu saw Governor and father of the state Abubakar Atiku Bagudu serve as Wali to all the four brides who have all completed their education and vocational trainings.



Governor Atiku Bagudu expressed his appreciation for the large turn-out of people, friends and well-wishers and reiterated that his administration was committed to the welfare of the less privileged in the society. He called on the grooms to uphold the rights and privileges prescribed to married couples by the noble Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).



The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar urged well to do individuals in the society to always support orphans and keenly monitor the behavior of their wards and children as well as discourage drug addiction among youths. Traditional rulers are working hard to check-mate the proliferation of drugs and intoxicating substances in towns.



Forty thousand naira was paid as dowry for the marriage between Gaddafi Muhammadu Fana and Zara’u Musa through his Wali Salisu Fana, while Lawal Yahaya Mera who wedded Zainab S.T Bello paid twenty thousand naira dowry through his Wakil Alhaji Bashir, Dan Malikin Zauro. Mallam AbdulMuminu Abdulmumin Aguji who took Rabi’atu A. Adamu as wife paid forty thousand naira dowry by his Wali Ibrahim Abdllahi Kofar Guga Katsina while thirty thousand naira dowry was paid for the marriage between Nafi’u and Zainab through his Wali Alh. Idris Umar Magajin Bunga.

Top dignitaries at the wedding were Deputy Governor Colonel Sama’ila Yombe Dabai, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners, SSG, Representative of the Commissioner of Police, Director SSS, former Minister of Water Resources, Isah Muhammad Argungu, APC Chairman, Attahiru Maccido etc.



The Chief Imam of Wala Juma’at Mosque, Mallam Ahmed Rufa’i, Chief Imam of Emir’s Palace Juma’at Mosque, Mallam Muhammadu Lawali, Mallam Salisu Fana and the Chief Imam of Yar-Yara Juma’at Mosque, Liman Laba solemnized the marriage.



A walima feast was held at the residence of Dr Hali Bala the following day while the brides were given farewell advice by their parents Governor Bagudu and his wife Dr Zainab.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the Christmas message of president Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians where he assured of a better hope for tomorrow.

“In a civilised environment, a score card of failure and evidences of failed promises after three years of governance are enough indices to tender a letter of resignation and not words of assurances of a better tomorrow,” the opposition party said in a statement signed by Diran Odeyemi, its deputy spokesperson.

The party challenged Nigerians to compare the years when it led the country to what currently obtains under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“A government once reigned here that was ready to take ‘bullet’ to ensure its citizens live in comfort and here is another government with all trappings of medieval king that scourged his subjects with scorpions, tormenting them by creating artificial scarcity of the most important product on which our national life and wellbeing is built,” Mr. Odeyemi said
