PoliticsLai Mohammed: How Much Nigerians Can Make From Whistle-blowing by MissEdified(op): 2:45pm On Mar 20, 2017
Nigeria's Federal Government has clearly spelt out the irresistible benefits that await whistleblowers as it also pledges protection for them, as there are some controversies that some whistle blowers have been victimized.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of up to 1 billion Naira will receive 5 per cent of the amount.

“For those who may have suffered any backlash as a result of the information they provide, their cases will be reviewed and appropriate mitigating actions taken”

“Whistle-blowers have nothing to fear, because the committee has put in place the necessary measures to safeguard those who give useful information. As a matter of fact, whistle-blowers have everything to gain and nothing to lose,” he said.

How much you can make by being a whistleblower:

1. Recovery of up to 1 billion Naira will receive 5% of the amount;

2. The reward for any amount between 1 and 5 billion Naira will be 5% for the first 1 billion Naira and 4% of the remaining 4 billion Naira

3. And then for any whistleblowing amount of over 5 billion Naira will attract 2.5% reward.

4. For example, if a whistle-blower provides information leading to the recovery of 10 billion Naira, he or she will receive 5% of the first 1 billion Naira, 4% of the next 4 billion Naira and 2.5% of the remaining 5 billion Naira.

PoliticsBuhari Has Office In His Living Room, Works From Home - Presidency by MissEdified(op): 8:34am On Mar 20, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has an office in his living room where he works while at home, the Presidency has revealed.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu disclosed this in an interview with Pyramid Radio in Kano State.

He said: “I read those analysis and I believe they were mostly wrong. What they don’t understand is that the president doesn’t follow official working hours because he is on duty all the time.

“He has another office by his living room. So, he works from home when most civil servants have closed.

“His (the president’s) reply to the people for their support and trust is to work much harder for them. The president didn’t have a day off or even a light week at all throughout his week of resumption,” he stated.

PoliticsI Won't Criticize Buhari, He Has Good Intentions For Nigeria- Abati by MissEdified(op): 7:45am On Mar 01, 2017
Ex-Presidential Spokesman, Reuben Abati on Tuesday explained why he'll never criticize President Muhammadu Buhari.

During a chat with the media, Abati said President Buhari had good intentions for Nigeria and sincerely wants to leave good legacies behind him.

“I’m not going to sit here and criticize President Buhari’s government, because if you go into the arena, you will see it is difficult. I can say categorically that it is not easy to run a country, and even more difficult to run a government in Nigeria.

''Every President has good intentions that is one of the things I discovered working with politicians. Politicians want to do well. They want to be liked. They enjoy public attention and they like to win elections.

''So no president will get to the top in Nigeria or anywhere and his intention will be to offend the people or to be remembered negatively. Once they become president, the first thing they begin to think about is legacy. How will they be remembered? That is the highest office in the land there is nothing after that. So when they get there they would want to leave a legacy that they would be remembered for. I have seen that either by interacting with a seating president or a past president.

“And you see our democracy is evolving – you keep learning things. I think one of the early articles I wrote after I left office talks about the lessons we have been learning. Since 1999.and we will continue to learn these lessons in different direction.

“One of the issues with democracy in Nigeria is the issue of rising expectations. People have very high expectations. A government comes in after a while people will start criticizing the government. People immediately react to what they see. It is called optics in government. But at the end of the day, all of those expectations may not be immediately met. All of those expectations may not be met. But from one government to the other, we have been seeing that there is progress since 1999. That is something to be cheerful about”, Abati stated.

CrimeRRS Smashes Highway Robbery Syndicates (Photo) by MissEdified(op): 9:41pm On Feb 26, 2017
The Operatives of Rapid Response Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended 12 suspects over an attempted murder of a tanker escort and diversion of a 45,000 litre diesel laden truck as well as the diversion of 410 bags of flour.

According to the RRS, the incident occurred on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 when the truck with registration number ENU 751 XH conveying 45,000 litres of diesel from a depot in Delta State was hijacked. During the process, the suspects hit the truck pilot, Tunji Ajayi, with hammer at the back of the head and threw him into a ditch.

The diversion was reported at Rapid Response Squad’s Headquarters in Alausa, where the officials declined to take up the case over jurisdiction. It was further revealed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, on hearing of the incident directed that the police swing into action immediately, noting that crime has no jurisdiction.

Days after the operatives swung into action, the team arrested 23 suspects directly involved in the attempted murder of Tunji Ajayi, the representative of Samsuat Petroleum, the diversion, buyers and sub-buyers of the products.

The complainant, Mrs. Nafisat Osinowo, in her statement stated that “the diesel was meant to be delivered in Sango, Ogun State. Our representative escorting the truck called me when they got to Benin that the tyre of the truck was not good in the afternoon. He called again at 11:00 p.m. that the truck has been parked in Ore. It is our tradition not to travel at night. Our discussion was that they proceed on the journey at 5:00 a.m. the next day. That was the last time we spoke. Efforts to get him the following day proved abortive until few days later when we were called that he was in an intensive care unit at the hospital.”

Police sources revealed that Gbenga Akinboyewa (33) and Obinna Ofunue (29) were recruited by a syndicate in connivance with the driver of the diesel truck, Amara (now at large), to eliminate Tunji Ajayi.

The trio who were at Ore at night, engaged Ajayi, overpowered him before hitting him at the back of the head with a hammer. They were reported to have thereafter dropped his body in a ditch along the road before diverting the truck with the 45,000 diesel.

The syndicate, led by Chibueze Nnamdi, a building materials dealer in Ore, Ondo State, Edwin Ozor, Oluchukwu and one Shedrach, now at large, had raised N800,000 to pay for the services of those engaged in the course of the diesel diversion.

Those equally arrested in connection with the attempted murder and diesel diversions were: Sadiku Ganinu, Oluchukwu Oyema and Gbenga Aliyu.

Meanwhile, the operatives have also uncovered that the same syndicate had sometime last week facilitated the disposal off 410 bags of flour believed to belong to Dangote Flour.

Police sources revealed that one of the suspects, whose name was not mentioned, disclosed that the syndicate had a week ago, disposed a truck load of flour. The revelation prompted further investigations by the operatives, which led the RRS team to Sagamu, Ogun State, where the buyer of the flour, Rabiu Bello, was arrested.

Bello, a colanut dealer, had in his statement stated that one Mustapha (at large) brought the flour deal to him, adding that, he bought each bag of the flour N8,500. He further stated that he in turn sold the flour in Zamfara at N9500 per bag.

Others involved in the flour deal and arrested by the operatives included Chigozie Obi, Feranmi Michael and Adedeji Kehinde.

Confirming the development, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olatunde Famous-Cole, said that the Command will not rest on its oars in nipping in the bud criminal activities in the state.

It was learnt that all the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.

PoliticsTambuwal Partners With Turkish Investors To Revive Furniture Company by MissEdified(op): 5:40pm On Feb 26, 2017
Sokoto government said it is partnering with investors from Turkey to revive the moribund state-owned furniture company.

At its peak, Sokoto Furniture was one of the largest furniture companies in the North, employing more than 10,000 workers and serving clients from as far as neighbouring Niger Republic.

Conducting the visiting investors round the factory, Managing Director of Sokoto Investment Company, Aliyu Bala Sokoto, said government is determined to bring the company back to its former glory.

“We’re talking with the Turkish investors, under the auspices of the MUSIAD Group, with a view to collaborating in various sectors. Apart from our understanding on the furniture company, we are also working on establishment of a light tractor and agricultural implements assembly plant as well technical partnership on women empowerment through skills transfer,” he said.

Team Leader of the MUSIAD Group, Resul Aslan, said a comprehensive report on the status of the company will soon be presented.

He said his Group is delighted with the collaboration, and expressed optimism that the factory will soon return to full production.

Though important to Sokoto economy in the 80s and 90s, a downturn in the fortune of the Sokoto Furniture Company led to its closure and despite provision of loan by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) in efforts to revive it, not much was achieved.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Tambuwal in 2015 cleared the N1.5 billion AMCON debt and took back possession of the company, with a promise to revive it in partnership with private partners.

FamilyMan Places ‘magun’ On Wife, Tumbles Twice After Falling Victim by MissEdified(op): 5:06pm On Feb 20, 2017
Mrs Fatimah Adebayo, a 35-year-old woman, on Monday urged an Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve her 14-year-old marriage to Mr Segun Adebayo, over alleged placement of sexual protective charm called “thunderbolt’’ on her.

The petitioner, a fashion designer who resides at Baiyeku Road, Igbogbo in Ikorodu, prayed the court to end the union to safeguard her life.

Fatimah further said Adebayo had assaulted several times, adding that he was a threat to her life.

“My husband laced me with thunderbolt, known in our local parlance as `Magun’.

“I got to know through an old man in my area and through my father when I was sick.

“But I smartly lured him to sleep with me. On that fateful day, after making love to me, he tumbled twice as I called for neighbours’ help.

“Besides, my husband beats me, he does not trust me and he does not take care of our children’s welfare.

“Please save me from this marriage as living with him is now dangerous for me. This is because he can kill me,’’ she said.

When asked to comment on the allegations, Adebayo, 43, prayed the court to allow his counsel speak on his behalf.

However, Mrs Omolara Abiola, the President of the court said it was important to either debunk or accept the allegations before a third party could come in.

Abiola adjourned the case till March 7, for further hearing.

PoliticsNigeria Now 2nd Largest Rice Producer In The World- Presidency by MissEdified(op): 3:26pm On Feb 19, 2017
Nigeria is now the second largest rice producer in the world, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, has proclaimed.

He said this at a special interactive session with the youths organized by Citizens Support for Good Governance in Nigeria (SGGN) in Abuja during the weekend.

“No country will develop when you have to import virtually everything, including tooth pick and tissue paper. All the food we eat in this country was being imported. So, all of the money earned was just going to buy food.

“But as I speak to you now, Nigeria just achieved the record of the second largest producer of rice in the world. The rice revolution just started a year ago. Some of you from Nasarawa know the kind of things going on there. A newspaper did an investigation in Kebbi and they found out that there were 48,000 new millionaires in Kebbi state alone last year for growing rice.

“This over-reliance on oil has killed this country and we cannot continue like this. So, the diversification of the economy means more money will be in the hands of ordinary Nigerians. And there will be widespread prosperity all over the country.”
