Aliko Dangote who is ranked the richest man in Africa lamented over the financial losses of the Dangote Group after Federal Government's Monday 20th June 2016 devaluation of the naira.

Speaking while vice president Yemi Osinbajo and Lagos governor Akinwunmi Ambode inspected construction projects at the Dangote Fertiliser and Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos State on Saturday 25th June 2016, Dangote said:
"This week, the Central Bank removed the peg that has held the naira at the official rate of 197 for the last 16 months, leading to a 30 per cent devaluation as the currency traded freely on the interbank market. This devaluation alone, we have lost over 50 billion naira ($176 million).

"The gas, which is our main source of power, is priced in dollars. If there is 40 per cent devaluation, your price will go up by 40 per cent. Every single aspect of the production will go up by that percentage."

An unnamed man was today humiliated by a crowd of people who gathered when the suspect was nabbed for stealing a mobile phone at a hairdresser's shop in Ogun State capital Abeokuta. According to eyewitness, he absconded with the phone when someone at the hairdressing shop raised .Instantly, bystanders gave him a chase and stripped him amidst heaving beating when he was caught.

The man was later handed over to policemen from Enugada Police station in Abeokuta.

A mild drama played out at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State wednesday, when the court clerk read out a case between the Federal Medical Centre, Ovom in Yenagoa and 121 unclaimed corpses.

Lawyers and those who were in the courtroom were still in shock when Justice Ajiya Nganjiwa sought to douse the jolted occupants of the courtroom.



“Now everybody is afraid because they have mentioned corpses,” the judge joked.

But the lawyer to FMC, Bayelsa, Mr. K. Clement, prayed the court to grant his 14-paragraph application requesting that the hospital should be given the go-ahead to give the unclaimed corpses a mass burial.

After listening to the argument backing the application, the judge concurred, stating that it was “time to allow the dead rest in peace”.

“The application is hereby granted for all the 121 abandoned corpses to be buried. All agencies and bodies involved must comply with this order,” he said.

The federal hospital had argued that the corpses would get a mass burial if the relatives of the deceased did not collect them.

THISDAY gathered that many of the bodies had been abandoned for over 10 years, thereby blocking space for fresh corpses.

Dr. Dennis Allagoa, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FMC, Yenagoa, had earlier explained that the decision, among others, was taken to create space in the mortuary as fresh corpses were being brought in on a daily basis.

He also cited pollution of the health facility as reason for the decision to evacuate the cadavers in the next three weeks.

“We issued a 21-day public notice because we noticed that corpses have littered the entire mortuary and there was no space to take in new corpses.

“As the decay goes on in the mortuary, the corpses have become a threat to human life because chemical and biochemical effects are on-going.

“So we want to clean up the area so that people can enjoy the benefit of a good site and space to bring in their corpses,” the CMD said.

Dr. Allagoa added that most of the unclaimed corpses were deposited by security personnel while others were found on the roads and creeks and brought to the morgue.

“A lot of them were corpses that were deposited by the security agents. Most of them are just bones, legs; they are not actually full body parts.

“People that died on the road, they brought them, from the river they brought them. People that died due to militancy, they brought them in their mass and they kept them here,” Allagoa explained.

There was a mild drama that ensued at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art in US capital Washington D.C on Tuesday after firemen were called in by passersby who saw smoke rising from the building.






The firemen left immediately after they came in to meet the Ooni of Ife and his entourage performing Yoruba traditional rituals in front of the museum.

Days after a Peace Mass Transit bus was involved in a ghastly accident, a God Is Good Motors' commercial bus was today involved in a fatal accident that left many dead. The bus was travelling from Abuja to Onitsha, Anambra State when it collided with a truck.

A cat reportedly turned into a human being at Oyo State capital Ibadan today Tuesday June 21 2016. Eyewitnesses told NGLatest that a teenage boy unlocked his mother's shop in the early hours of today only to discover a scary cat inside the shop. The boy, in panic mode, hailed on his mum to come and just as the woman stepped in, the cat magically transformed into a girl. The unidentified girl told a mammoth crowd that gathered immediately that she's 15 years old before being taken away by Police.

According to another eyewitness,
"The incident truly happened and that someone living in the building actually saw the lady while in form of a cat inside the cupboard right in the house, and after seeing the cat, the person screamed ‘Jesus’.

"While screaming Jesus, this lady immediately turned into a human being and then tried to escape from the building. The girl got captured and people around started asking her questions how she got into the house until the police came to take her away."

Another Peace Mass Transit commercial bus involved in ghastly accident


Barely a month after a commercial bus belonging to the transport company was involved in a road accident in Umuahia killing at least 10, another Peace Mass Transit bus was involved in a ghastly accident on June 20 2016.



The recent road mishap occurred at Eleme in Enugu State and according to eyewitness, the driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital although no life was lost.

Kenyan Police have arrested a guy identified as Grace during the weekend. Grace reportedly seduced a guy from a bar at Mumias, Kenya. The man had paid Grace and booked a room for the deed to be done when he found out that "Grace" was a fellow man packaged in wigs and makeup. To escape lynching by a mob which gathered quickly in the hotel, Grace ran to a nearby police station but was released shortly afterwards as nobody came forward to lodge a statement against her/him.
