ohzee: Interesting things always attract attention. Make it interesting. Avoid too much tech talk. Relate your posts to everyday practical things. Ask people for their opinion, not just giving yours. Show interest in what they have to say. Most Nigerians are not tech savvy so may not understand too much hard stuff.
Disclaimer: I haven't visited your blog before, so I don't know if you are already doing these. Hey Ohzee you should visit one of these days if you will (not trying to patronize you) However, in other not to sound proud, I try to deploy posts that anybody can relate with - for example I create personality quizzes that can gauge what type of personality you have - eg - the Find out your Social media Identity post , Can you work at google posts etc.

BlackOnassis: Unfortunately, Nigerians aren't tech savvy. We love to use those gadgets but aren't really interested in what makes them tick. We still see technology as something foreign and imported. So, it is difficult for us to feel we can contribute something meaningful. We've got to get out of this "rot" and "own" technology as producers, not consumers. I think the education system should do the heavy lifting and things will fall in place. In other words - TECHNOLOGY NEEDS TO BE RE-BRANDED FOR NIGERIANS AT THE ROOT LEVEL? |

As for me I love tech and I read tech blogs but I don't usually comment, I only comment when I need to ask a question. BTW MissTechy keep up the good work i like females that are into tech Thank you Alfred |

abbey621: If Nigerians are not commenting on your tech blog, it is because you've done a poor job in marketing the blog. Make your blog interesting, dedicate time and effort towards marketing and other PR methods only then will you see an uptick in user engagement.
1. What's your Google rank 2. How are you reaching Nigerians? 3. Do you offer freebies on your blog? Such as free software, PDF and so on... 4. How dynamic is your blog?
I suggest you stop blaming the consumer and invest more in your business. Hey Abbey I just launched 3 months ago and I have an alexa rank of 974, reach them through socials, I offer freebies to commentators - ever month the top 3 commenters get N5000 worth of airtime to get data. - very dynamic. Any more questions? |

Matthewbriggs: Their is a difference between what matters and what they want.
Look at the key tends on most critically acclaimed tech sites like mashable, verge, tech crunch and our up and coming techcabal and techloy. Comments are not what makes them thick but no of views and following. Techcabal had to even disable comments, Forbes and mashable hide comments you have to click on a tab to open them up ... If you want engagement twitter is a good place to get it for your post.
I think what is important in this context in terms of engagement is how many people share or like your posts.
My point is don't fret of feel discouraged that comments are not flying in... Just keep posting quality content gradually you would gain traction. True talk |
Webmasters › Re: Why Do Nigerians Hate Commenting On Tech Blogs? by MissTechy(op): 2:18am On May 28, 2015 |
Matthewbriggs: I never said 90% ... I simply talked about lack of interest in technology, and not knowledgeable enough to understand technology talk-less of making meaningful comments hence most do not comment.
Views are what matters for tech bloggers not comments. Trust me, I actually talked with some of my fellow TOP tech bloggers in Nigeria and it is not just views they want. |
Webmasters › Re: Why Do Nigerians Hate Commenting On Tech Blogs? by MissTechy(op): 9:16pm On May 27, 2015 |
Matthewbriggs: The problem is not form tech writer but from the readers.
1. Majority of them are not comfortable with technology related discussion, when did we start using technology in the first place. In other not to make a fool of them selves they simply do not comment.
2. Most people mostly go to technology blogs to learn and know what's happening but are not keen at been part of the discussion because technology related discussion can be tasking to the mind. Have you ever asked why people doze off in maths class.
3. They simply do not care about technology of find it interesting.
As for me I would rather create technology than talk about it. So are you saying more than 90% of Nigerians re not smart enough to engage with Nigerian tech blogs because they might be too "tasking" |

We tend to acquire new knowledge from tech info and you may not even need to say anything, but celebrity gossips is entertainment and will draw more comments and interest people more There are times when the author would be looking for ways to drive engagement by asking questions but if you check the post 20 days after all you would see are cobwebs |

Webmasters › Why Do Nigerians Hate Commenting On Tech Blogs? by MissTechy(op): 3:58pm On May 27, 2015 |
Hello Everyone, I recently took a survey and I noticed that Nigerians would love to comment on gossips blogs about other people's lives and not on tech information that can benefit them in their workplace or homes. I am saying this because I know how hard it is to get comments on a tech blog given the fact that I run one (misstechy dot com), I have also searched top tech blogs in the country and noticed the same trend. Even noticed the trend on Nairaland, anytime a tech post is out on frontpage, people hardly comment or even view it. Is it that the contents are boring or what? Why would you choose to comment on other people's trouble but not on something that can benefit you in several ways - Oya Nairalander answer |

DanWrites: MissTechy, please check www.dnbstories.com and let me have your opinion. Thanks. wow I must say that I was really really impressed to the extent that I tried to find loopholes but it was almost difficult .. Your SEO is also on point - the only thing now is to work on traffic as your alexa's ranking is zero for nigeria and 2m for the world (you can get higher than this with your type of content if you know how to strategize). I would have loved the images to be bigger but that is my opinion - it really doesn't take anything away from the blog with its thumbnail images. All in all- a great site - --- in @kizeeto's imagined voice -Keep kicking ass |

pinky92: yes u did.. tnx dear could u plis help me build it up tnx Build what ? If it is the images - you can do it yourself and become a pro at it self It is a very simple trick. Go to blogger Dashboard: Go to Template/ Edit Html: Now Search for ]]></b:skin> tag Now past the below given code just above the ]]></b:skin> tag .post-body img { width: 500px!important; height: auto!important; } If you can't code, just make sure you get the right dimension of images for your blog - I checked it is within the 583 x 386 img dimension, so just work with that. |

use opera mobile, ucbrowserhd, chrome....dont use opera mini o!!! nd leave a comment too...very important! I just checked on Google chrome and I must say - I loved how your header played out - nice - the only I think you should separate the menu from your header and sub header as seen in the image. I also noticed that I couldn't place a comment - didn't see the comment bar. How far na?

pinky92: Miss Techy plis check out my blog and review
Pinkygist..com I started this month Hey Pinky ...here are the things I noticed: 1. No consistent image size.... see the screenshot below: 2. I like the fact that you have new contents I haven't seen on other gossip blogs. 3. I noticed you have overlapping images - screenshot 2, can you fix that. 4. Kudos to it being mobile friendly. 5. Inconsistent font - screenshot 3 6. I see you are making use of your G+ ...nice I think that is about it I noticed, but you know that you are a gossip/lifestyle blog and the competition is really high for that niche in Nigeria, so you need to ensure you utilize all platforms - social media, email marketing if possible just to ensure you have a high top of mind awareness for your blog's name. I don't know if I made sense
