Health / Re: Please, help A Brotther With Persistent Itching After Bathing by missuzoma: 7:58am On Oct 06, 2018
This ailment is called aqueous pruritis. It afflicts a lot of people. It has nothing to do with water, soap or towel. You can reduce the problem by not wiping your body vigorously with towel after bathing. Just pat your body with the towel or allow the water dry on your body without wiping.

Hi all,

The Okadabooks platform requires that authors convert their books to epubs before they upload them. This process--whether done on or off their app--can be long and cumbersome. But, if you don’t do it, your book will look scattered, unprofessional. That’s a horrible, horrible thing if that’s your only avenue for sales.

If you need your book to look good, I can help for a small fee (N1,500). Your book will be arranged as requested within 24 hrs. Need a Table of Contents, you'll get that. Need images in your work, you'll get that. And, it'll be extremely neat!

Education / Imo People Give Rochas Ultimatum To Name Owner Of Eastern Palm University by missuzoma: 3:46pm On Jun 21, 2018
By Jude Aguguo Owuamanam, Owerri

Tension is mounting between Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and his kinsmen from Orlu on the one hand, and between the Orlu people and the legislative arm in the state on the other, over the proposed law on the equity holding of Eastern Pam University (EPU) located in Okorocha’s village of Ogboko in Orlu.
EPU was established by Law No. 13 of 2016 of Imo State and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016. The university, a Public/Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to be a world class university anchored on excellence and research needs of all relevant persons, irrespective of gender, nationality, religion or political inclination.

However, the concept of a private/public partnership in the law setting up the university is a subject of controversy. More controversial is a proposed law by the Imo State House of Assembly which tends to give 90 per cent equity holding to the governor of the state and 10 per cent to the state government.
At the centre of a looming legal battle is the Orlu Elders’ Council (OEC), where the governor hails from and the state legislature.
Secretary General of Orlu Elders Council, Professor Protus Nathan Uzoma, has given the two parties a 21-day ultimatum to name the owner of the university between the governor and the state. Uzoma, while speaking to our correspondent on the issue threatened that if after 21 days, they failed to name the owner, OEC will not hesitate to go to court.
Prof Uzoma said whereas the governor had said the university belonged to the state, the legislators surreptitiously, at the instigation of the governor, made him a major shareholder.
He said: “We have given the House of Assembly 21 days to explain in clear terms who actually owns Palm Beach University because it was built with the people’s money and if at the end of 21 days they fail to do so, we will not hesitate to file legal action against them and the state government to ascertain the real owners.
“There are three ways of owning a university in Nigeria - federal, state and private - and if for any reason Okorocha wants to establish a university, he should do so with his own money. Giving Okorocha 90 per cent shares of the university built with state funds is like robbing the people of the state and the law establishing a university in Nigeria does not make any provision for PPP.
“University is not for profit making, but centres of scholarship and excellence.”
Prof Uzoma added that, “The passage of that bill showed that we have no House of Assembly in a state like Imo that has a very high preponderance of educated people. Our silence should not be taken for granted.”
However, the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo, disputed the claims. He told our correspondent that the proposed law didn’t make the governor a majority shareholder.
Ozuruigbo said what the law proposed was that being a PPP project, the governor, as the visitor to the university, will nominate who will have a controlling interest in the arrangement.
“The proposed law did not give the governor 90 per cent equity as alleged. However, what the law says is that the visitor to the university can nominate a person who will have a controlling interest since it is a PPP arrangement.”
Also speaking on the issue, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said he has not seen the law, adding that he would rather prefer to avail his comments when the litigants go to court or when the law is officially passed.

Education / EASTERN PALM UNIVERSITY: Ownership Battle Imminent As Okorocha’s Stranglehold On by missuzoma: 10:13am On May 22, 2018

The centre is no longer holding firm at the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko, in Imo state as staff have become jittery in fear of what becomes of their fate when Governor Rochas Okorocha eventually leaves office without his preferred successor.

The University, built next to Okorocha’s country home in his village, has been subject of controversy over its actual ownership.

While Gov. Okorocha claims that the university is the outcome of a joint venture between Rochas Foundation and Imo state, stakeholders of the state insist that the university, clandestinely built with Imo state funds, belongs fully to the state.

Okorocha had told some journalists that Imo State government’s holding in the university is “infinitesimal” while, according to him, the land upon which the university was built, was property of Rochas Foundation where he actually intended to build his own private university.

He has however refused to disclose how much of Imo state funds went into the construction and funding of the university.

Ripplesnigeria gathered during a recent visit to the University that communities which lands were grabbed for the project are waiting in the wings to begin battle with the state government over compensatory rights.

Sources familiar with the development told our Reporter that Okorocha only paid N30,000 per plot to some families he was able to convince to accept the amount with further promises that their children will be given automatic employments at the university.

It was said that those who were desperate for money accepted the N30,000 bait.

However, those who were said to know the value of their lands refused the bait and told Okorocha openly that they do not intend to deal. He was said to have ignored them and gone ahead to suppress their dissentions.
With the outcome of the ward and local government congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which had seen a boastful Okorocha struggling to remain relevant in what would happen with leadership of the state in 2019 and onwards, staff of the university are now at odd over what becomes of their future.

According to our findings at the university, the few lecturers already employed at EPU are looking elsewhere for sustainable jobs. Even the academic staff are on the lookout for secured jobs.

Even the university’s registrar, we gathered, has been forced by circumstances to take to add himself to the teaching staff list.

“The situation is disturbing. We have always believed that the University is owned by Imo state, but with time, we are beginning to see the reality and it doesn’t look good unless the people of Imo decide to allow him keep the school”, a jittery academic staff who did not want to be identified, told Ripplesnigeria.

The development may have led to load-shedding as social media handles of the university are all down with no support staff. Even the university’s page on Wikipedia still has Prof. Linus Osuagwu as Vice Chancellor despite having left the EPU more than three months ago with Prof. Otobo from the University of Lagos appointed in his stead.

Sources told Ripplenigeria that the university has been at loggerheads with the IT managers because of lack of funds as the authorities have refused to offset all debts owed the company managing its online presence. This, it was said, has led to a suspension of the accounts though the university is working hard to bypass the accounts and seek to create a new online presence despite working hard to ensure that all staff recruited by the former Vice Chancellor, are shown the way out.

Indeed, EPU is listed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as a state-owned university. The Joint admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), also identifies it as such. But there are insinuations that despite being licensed as a state owned university, its documents have been clandestinely changed to read a private university belonging to Rochas Foundation.

This has led to fears that all those involved with the university, including in doctoring its establishment laws, would have explanations to make as to how the university changed hands.

“This is one of the reasons he wants Uche Nwosu to succeed him. He believes that with Uche, his boy-boy, all his impunity against Imo state will be covered. But he failed to realize that there are many stubborn politicians in Imo who won’t be intimidated by Rochas”, a source at the university said.

Prior to the APC ward and local government congresses, many in Imo state reckoned that unless concerted and collaborative efforts were made by the party’s henchmen in the State, Rochas would brush his way through and install his son-in-law as governor.

There is uncertainty at EPU while on the streets of Imo state the people are in ecstasy as they see the regime of Okorocha unbundling itself and falling like a pack of badly arranged cards.

Fake certificates everywhere! The Bursar of Eastern Palm University is yet to prove that he attended a university. He got a first degree certificate from a university that doesn't exist and is about to get a PhD from IMSU with the fake first degree. NUC is not doing anything about that. A leading member of the Governing Council of the same university is also operating with Toronto certificates.

Nairaland / General / Messy Details Emerge Of Management Crisis At Okorocha's Eastern Palm University by missuzoma: 8:49am On Feb 28, 2018
Following the publication of an investigative report by Ripples Nigeria on the management crisis rocking Imo State government’s second university, Eastern Palm University, at Ogboko in Ideato-South Local Government Area, more facts have emerged to show that pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof. Linus Osuagwu, may have been forced out over his insistence on institutionalizing standards and ensuring that the university was professionally managed. That insistence pitched him against the university’s pro-chancellor, Ambassador Nonye Rajis-Okpara, who is alleged to have hijacked the functions of the Vice Chancellor and sits as principal of the university.

Investigations by Ripples Nigeria revealed three key issues that led to his exit. They include his probe of questionable academic credentials by a principal officer, the insistence on procedure in the appointment of Professor Dafe Otobo as Deputy Vice Chancellor, and the award of what he considered a heavily-padded contract for wi-fi facilities in the university.

The principal officer in question, who holds a very sensitive brief, could not present his National Youth Service Corps certificate or Exemption certificate which aroused suspicions. He had also earlier foot-dragged for months when Professor Osuagwu demanded for his credentials in preparation for a resource verification visit by the National Universities Commission. On close scrutiny, his first degree certificate, issued by a university in Aruba, had the first and middle names in initials which looked decidedly irregular.

Investigations on the university he allegedly attended revealed that it was non-existent when he got the degree. He also failed to present a First School Leaving Certificate and Ordinary Level Certificates. Somehow, he had used the certificate in question to acquire a Master’s degree and is working on a doctorate degree. Meanwhile, the officer is still in the employ of the university which authorities decided to take out six months to investigate the fake certificate allegations.

On the engagement of Professor Otobo, Osuagwu raised objections that he was single-handedly vetted and employed by the Pro-Chancellor without Otobo presenting a single credential other than a Curriculum Vitae. He insisted on Otobo presenting his academic credentials, a letter naming him a professor from the University of Lagos, as well as his letter of disengagement from University of Lagos. None of these were ever showed coupled with the fact that a deputy vice chancellor can only be picked by the Senate in session according to the laws of the university.

The award of a contract for wi-fi facilities in the school was another bone of contention as a hurriedly set up company brought a bid of over N200 million for wiring the campus and all attempts to consider other offers or use the tenders board led to bitter altercations even when services provided by the company were poor and investigations showed they left mails of university officials open for spying and abuse.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that the Visitor to the university, Governor Rochas Okorocha, had authorized the sack of Professor Otobo and the Principal Officer with questionable academic credentials before certain forces coalesced and got members of the Council to commence proceedings for Osuagwu’s ouster. The beleaguered professor of marketing quickly got out of town and back to the American University of Nigeria, Yola. Investigations also showed that the open confrontation with him happened after almost a year of electronic surveillance of his residence did not turn up any materials for a possible blackmail operation.

The former Vice Chancellor contended with these issues against other top officers as well as the fact that all but five members of staff in the non-academic section were recruited by the Pro-Chancellor who also fought off all attempts to properly interview the said staff members as well as vet their credentials for suitability for tasks.

A document exclusively obtained by Ripples Nigeria indicated that Prof. Osuagwu had objected to the employment of Prof. Dafe Otobo as Deputy Vice Chancellor on the grounds that he was still on the staff list of the University of Lagos as at the time he resumed at Eastern Palm as Deputy Vice Chancellor, and also, had refused to submit academic credentials pleaded in his curriculum vitae submitted to the Pro-Chancellor.

The Visitor, Ripples Nigeria gathered, was also communicated, in writing, details of the irregularities in the employment of Prof. Otobo, who, it was alleged, as at the time of his employment at the Eastern Palm as Deputy Vice Chancellor, was still on the employ of the University of Lagos. The pioneer Vice Chancellor, Ripples Nigeria found out, also objected to the designation of Prof. Otobo as professor of Economics and Politics because while at UNILAG, he was listed as a professor of industrial relations.

To this effect, the vice chancellor, Prof. Osuagwu, in a letter to the pro-chancellor, warned against the circumvention of civil service rules and other university guidelines in the employment of a staff at Otobo’s level.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that the Vice Chancellor decided to take up the matter with the Pro-Chancellor because she “sourced and single-handedly employed him as DVC”, a staff who should know said. He also notified relevant officials of the university of the employment status of Prof. Otobo in a January 20, 2018 email to the university’s principal officers.

Writing in the said email, the Vice chancellor wrote, “I write to inform you that the appointment of Prof. Dafe Otobo as staff of Eastern Palm University has been withdrawn. This is because of the failure of Professor Dafe Otobo to present copies of his relevant credentials needed for the processing of his engagement as staff of eastern Palm University.

“Please be guided by this piece of information in your dealings with Professor Dafe Otobo, especially in relation to Eastern Palm University”.

Prior to this, the Vice chancellor had warned the university’s visitor, Gov. Okorocha, in a letter, highlighting the short ends of engaging Prof. Otobo.

In the said letter, a copy of which was obtained from Government House Owerri, the Vice Chancellor wrote: “Please find attached, a correspondence from me (Vice Chancellor of eastern Palm University) withdrawing the appointment of Prof. Dafe Otobo as staff of Eastern Palm University”.

Stating reasons for the action, the Vice Chancellor wrote, “Prof. Dafe Otobo is not qualified to be appointed a Professor of Economics and Political Science at Eastern Palm University. He has been professor of Industrial Relations and Management Studies, not Economics and Political Science, at the University of Lagos. This is against the regulations of NUC (National Universities Commission).

“Professor Dafe Otobo is still a staff of the University of Lagos. Appointing him simultaneously to be a staff of Eastern Palm University is against civil service regulations.

“The appointment of Prof. Dafe Otobo, who is nearly 70 years old, as the deputy Vice Chancellor of the Eastern Palm University is against the law setting up Eastern Palm University (EPU). This is because the position of DVC, as contained in the EPU law, is elected by members of the Senate, which is not in place yet.

“Prof. Dafe Otobo has refused to present copies of his credentials needed to validate and process his engagement as staff of Eastern Palm University.”

The Vice Chancellor also forwarded to the governor, photocopies of supporting documents including the offer of employment and acceptance letter by Prof. Otobo.

However, there was no evidence that the governor acted on the letter and the information contained therein before the relations worsened and the Pro-Chancellor commenced proceedings for ousting Osuagwu.

“The Visitor of Eastern Palm University, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has directed, since 25/1/2018, that I should hold on for a while pending his investigation of relevant issues associated with your correspondence under reference”, the vice chancellor told the pro-chancellor in a letter in his response to a letter telling him that his services to the university were no longer required.

“This means that he, as the Visitor of Eastern Palm University with statutory powers to disengage the Vice Chancellor, has not made final decision on the matter”, Prof. Osuagwu further told the pro-chancellor.

He also reminded her that “my correspondence, as Vice Chancellor of Eastern Palm University, withdrawing the appointment of Professor Dafe Otobo as staff of Eastern Palm University had the approval of the Visitor of Eastern Palm University, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. You may recall my concerns with your silence regarding refusal of Professor Dafe Otobo to present his relevant credentials needed to process and validate his engagement as staff of Eastern Palm University. It was because of your silence and inability to act on Prof Otobo’s refusal that made me to approach the Visitor for his intervention on the matter”.

Rather than calm an enraged Pro-Chancellor, Rajis-Okpara, the information that Gov. Okorocha had said he would investigate the developments seemed to have irked her more, making her to fire a letter to the Vice Chancellor through which she terminated his appointment.

Ripples Nigeria was not shown any evidence of a query over any wrongdoing to the Vice Chancellor neither is there a memo to the Senate of the University alleging any wrongdoing against the Vice chancellor.

In the letter dated January 24, 2018 and addressed to the Vic Chancellor, the pro-chancellor wrote: “In line with the relevant provisions of the Eastern Palm University Law 2016 No. 13 and the approval of the Visitor to the university of the recommendations of Council, on the affairs of Eastern Palm University, we write to you that your services to Eastern Palm University as Vice Chancellor are no longer required. This is with effect from the date of this letter.

“Kindly, hand over the office and the affairs of the university to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Dafe Otobo. Please the handing over/taking over exercise should be completed by close of work on Friday 26th January, 2018.

“Further, Sir, you are to hand over all university property in your possession to the Deputy Vice chancellor”.

The letter was signed by Mrs. Rajis-Okpara as pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that the EPU has no properly constituted Governing Council as all those on the said council are said to be members of a technical committee single handedly constituted by Gov. Okorocha to midwife the university into being. The transformation of the technical committee into a governing council is said to be the first miracle at the university.

Acknowledging receipt of the letter however, Prof. Osuagwu wrote, “Original copy received by Professor Linus Osuagwu. This letter has not been discussed with the visitor of Eastern Palm University, Owelle Rochas Okorocha”.

That was not all. Osuagwu had something more to tell Mrs. Rajis-Okpara.

He voiced out on January 25th, 2018 in a letter titled ‘Re: Notice of Disengagement From Office as Vice Chancellor’ and addressed to Mrs. Rajis-Okpara.

He said, “Your correspondence to me of 24th January 2018 on the above subject, which was delivered to me on 25th January 2018 at Eastern Palm University Ogboko refers.

“Let me react to the correspondence under reference. The correspondence is not in accord with relevant provisions of the Eastern Palm University Law 2016 (as amended). My legal adviser (Mike Ozekhome SAN) is studying your correspondence in relation to the relevant provisions of the Eastern Palm University Law 2016 (as amended) and may respond on my behalf at the appropriate time.

“You may recall that I have, via discussions and correspondence, pointed out that your appointment of Professor Dafe Otobo (who is Professor of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the University of Lagos) as Professor of Economics and Political science at Eastern Palm University is illegal, against professional regulations, and not accepted and recognized by me. Therefore, it is not proper for me to hand-over anything to Professor Dafe Otobo of the University of Lagos whose appointment as Professor of Economics and Political Science at Eastern Palm University is seen by me as illegal and against professional regulations in the Nigerian university system.

“You may also recall my concerns and correspondences regarding how you have usurped nearly all aspects of the university management at Eastern Palm University, including some statutory functions of the Vice chancellor, professional appointments, engagement of staff, sourcing of vendors and award of contracts, among others. In fact you have been involved in the running/management of nearly all aspects of Eastern Palm University from February 2017 till date. Therefore, there is no university property in my possession to be handed-over, except one dark-coloured official Kia car which carries me to and from work and is usually parked at Government House Owerri/Spibat for safety and supervision. The two cheque books for the university’s two accounts (salary and operations accounts), are kept in my Spibat residence for safety on your directive, and are available for your collection.”

Spibat is the private estate of Governor Okorocha in Owerri.

The Vice chancellor also poured out his mind on his observations at the University. He said “I have observed, since 2017, your obsession regarding creating frustrations for me as vice chancellor of Eastern Palm University. Cases abound in this vein, and these include, among others unsuccessful attempt to downgrade my position from substantive Vice chancellor to Acting\Vice chancellor. He referred the pro-chancellor to see minutes of the EPU Management/Governing Council of May 2017.

He also reminded the pro-chancellor of “your desperation to replace me as Vice chancellor only two months to assumption of office as Vice chancellor”. These, Ripples Nigeria understands, included what was termed “hurried and illegal” employment of Prof. Otobo despite still being in employ of the University of Lagos.

Though he promised to raise issues pertaining to the management of the university with the relevant authorities including the Academic Staff Union of Universities, NUC and Association of Vice Chancellors of Universities when the need arises, the vice chancellor reminded the pro chancellor of his entitlements, which are still outstanding, and the need to offset them.

It was learnt that Mrs. Ragis-Okpara is an acquaintance of Gov. Okorocha and was chosen by him to oversee the university whih he claims to belong to Rochas Foundation with Imo state government owning just 10 percent.

Meanwhile, some members of staff of the university are secretly asking questions about the appointment of Gov. Okorocha’s second daughter, Uju, at the University, as Director of Logistics and Procurement.

Some of the staff who spoke to Ripples Nigeria on condition of anonymity, questioned her qualification to hold such a sensitive position at the university.

“If not for the kind of system we have in Imo state, is she even qualified to work in a secondary talk less of university. She is his second daughter and he believes the university is his own so he brought his daughter here to be in charge of procurement”, an aggrieved staff told Ripples Nigeria.

Okorocha’s second daughter is married to Uzoma, the medical doctor son of Prof. Anthony Anwuka, a junior minister in the Federal Ministry of Education.

Ownership of the university is also raising questions as communities which lands were confiscated for the project, it was gathered, are lining in wait for the governor to leave office before taking Imo state government to task over their forceful eviction from their land and conversion of same to a university.

Though Okorocha had said his personal foundation owns 90 percent of investments in the university, there is yet to be published, any documents detailing out the financial involvement of Rochas Foundation and the Imo state government. There is also no transparency in the funding of the building of the university though it was alleged that Okorocha used his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, as Commissioner for Lands, backed with state power, to annex lands belonging to four communities for the project.

Nwosu’s successful execution of his job in the annexation of the lands, some say led to his elevation as Chief of Staff where he has helped his father-in-law to ensure that details of funding for the building of the university remained the most guarded secret in the Okorocha administration. Many Imo indigenes now allege that Okorocha’s push to install his son-in-law as governor was to enable him make sure that the 10 percent holding, which he said belonged to Imo state at the university, was signed off to him (Okorocha) as disengagement compensation.

But law establishing the university lists it as Imo State-owned.

Also, communities affected by the construction of the university, are gearing for a fight with the Imo state government for blocking the major access road to their homes and converting same into university property while diverting traffic to the communities.

“We are waiting for him to step down. Then, Imo state government will tell us the right it has to convert community road into university property and fence it off. We don’t want to fight now because he is still in office and will use state power against us. We know what we are waiting for”, Richard Duru of Umuma-Ishiaku told Ripples Nigeria.

Governor Rochas Okorocha’s dream of having a world class university in his home town of Ogboko, in Ideato-South local government area of Imo state, may have materialized with the building of Eastern Palm University.

But questionable managerial skills are now robbing the University of a smooth take-off.

Plans to begin academic activities at the University last November failed to materialize due to the delay by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to give its final nod to courses so far listed for operation.

However, when the nod was finally given, it became apparent that the university may never take off due to management issues which pitched the first Vice Chancellor, Prof. Linus Osuagwu, poached from American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa state, against pro-chancellor of the university, Nonye Rajis-Okpara, a former Nigerian envoy to Singapore.

The management disagreements, which included alleged recruitment of top level management staff with questionable academic credentials by the pro-chancellor, were said to have made Prof. Osuagwu quietly walk away.
Sources at the university told Ripples Nigeria that Prof. Osuagwu spirited himself away and only informed Governor Okorocha and the pro-chancellor, of his decision after he had resumed safely at his erstwhile duty post in Yola.

Following Prof. Osuagwu’s move, the university’s director of communication, Lady Cordelia Onu, was also said to have quietly walked away. She too was said to have informed the university management of her decision only after she had reached a safe abode outside Imo state.

Prior to quitting, Prof. Osuagwu was said to have been pitched against Mrs. Rajis-Okpara, over her managerial skills and penchant for full involvement in the day-to-day running of the university.

An inside source disclosed that the ex-envoy, who hailed from Isu area of the state, is said to be closely related to the governor and administers the university like a local government to the exclusion of the Vice Chancellor.

It was gathered that efforts made by Prof. Osuagwu to properly fix the university and get it ready for effective take-off was rebuffed by the pro-chancellor who populated the staff list with persons mostly from political circles, instead of the academia.

According to our source “she sees the university like a local government motor park where every Tom, Dick and Harry from her village who does not have a job must be accommodated even if they have no academic qualification to work in a university environment”.

Though our source acknowledged that Prof. Osuagwu made efforts to put the university on a smooth footing, it was disclosed that the bubble burst for Osuagwu after he stopped an alleged plot by Okorocha, and the pro-chancellor, to have the university recognized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as a private university.

According to findings, Eastern Palm University was registered at the NUC as the 42nd state-owned university and the 143rd university in Nigeria. However, it was listed by JAMB as a private university.

Governor Okorocha had also been quoted as saying that Eastern Palm is a university built on public-private partnership model. He had allegedly said the university is owned by the Rochas Foundation and Imo state government indicating that while his private foundation owns 90 percent of the university the Imo state government owned 10 percent.

However, Ripples Nigeria learnt that the university came into being by an act of the Imo State House of Assembly through an establishment law cited as Imo State of Nigeria Law No. 13 of 2016.

Our query indicated that Prof. Osuagwu’s protest forced JAMB to re-order its brochure and list it as state-owned.

Irked by the protest, it was gathered that the pro-chancellor marked out Prof. Osuagwu for antagonisms leading to her single-handed employment of Prof. Dafe Otobo, a retiring professor of industrial relations at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as alternate Vice-Chancellor.

He became Vice Chancellor with Prof. Osuagwu’s exit.

It was also learnt that Prof. Otobo has been appointed a professor of economics and politics at the university though there are less than 15 students so far registered to begin studies there.

According to our source, the students were housed at a dingy hotel on Obohia junction, just in front of the university as the hostel accommodation is yet to be ready.

It was alleged that the decision to house the early birds in the hotel followed failure of the university management to fix some hostel rooms for co-habitation by the students.

The source claimed that those housed in the hotel included male and female students who had registered for lectures even when they are unsure of lecturers, and that the students are beginning to get agitated about the air of uncertainty over their fate.

Findings show that at the moment, Eastern Palm University is without a functional website. Its official website www.epu.edu.ng has been shut down due to what sources say was “huge debt owed the website developer”.

According to our source, the university administration refused to offset debt owed the web developer and instead, attempted to circumvent him and employ another group to manage the site.

“Because of that, he shut down the website and walked away. He alone has the details and even details of the university account on linkedin and Wikipedia. He developed all of them but rather than pay him, the pro-chancellor went and brought another person to develop a different portal for admission and refused to pay him, so he shut down the website and walked away”, our source disclosed.

At the moment, only the admission portal www.epuniportal.com where school fees of the university is advertised as N500,000per annum, is functional.

An update on the facebook page of the university made on February 5, 2018 reads: ‘Hi dear people, especially prospective students, this is the owner of phone number 08162713270 signing off. This is also to formally sign off phone numbers 08033036440 and 09033069657 as numbers to call when you need information on Eastern Palm University. Shortly the authorities of EPU will supply numbers to call henceforth. It was good hearing all your sweet voices. Peace.”

No other contact telephone numbers have been advertised by the university management to enable prospective students get in touch with the school.

Following the update, Ripples Nigeria understands that parents have become more skeptical about the prospects of the university ever taking off despite huge sums sunk into building it.

But our source indicated that though the buildings may be great, the university is actually not ready to take off as there may not be facilities to enable such.

“Is university only about walls and glasses? It goes beyond that my brother and we will know when we are ready to take off. As for now, I doubt we are prepared”, our source hinted.

It is feared that the initial hiccups may force the university to abort its admission plans for now.

Meanwhile, there is no official of the university detailed to talk on the development. It is unclear if any official has been appointed to replace the Director of University Communications.

Praise God! I can see you are in high spirits too, that's one of the top secrets for fast recovery. If the doctors don't have anything against it, take plenty of fruits and vegetables and as soon as you can, start working towards regaining your full strength. Yours went better than mine, the anesthetic agent refused to work very well and I was crying with pain. It is not the doctor's fault, it's my very strong and stubborn system. Prior to the surgery, I did some dental stuff and in three different locations and each time, the anastethia won't work well. Cheers!

@OP stop these useless posts. this is a faceless forum and we can afford to speak our minds here without ending up dead. this whole story is nonsense and you know it. just tell your master that this is not ebbc or ebonyi patriot. put all your fake stories there not here. now have you people been able to get any self-respecting Lagos-based journalist to take over from poor emma anya as chief press secretary after months of searching?

LIES! LIES! LIES! THIS SAME MAN WAS THE SPIRITUAL FATHER TO GOVERNOR UMAHI UNTIL THEY FELL OUT RECENTLY AND SOME OF THESE TALES BY MOONLIGHT STARTED SURFACING. THERE WERE TALES OF GOVERNOR SLAPPING ONONYE AND THE PASTOR DECIDING NOT TO TAKE UP HIS NEW APPOINTMENT AND SO MANY OTHERS. ANYWAY, A PASTOR WHO CHOOSE TO BE FRIENDS WITH A RITUALIST AND MURDERER/THIEF THAT ONE IS LOOKING FOR TROUBLE.

our dear governor is scared of his shadow these days and believes that visiting motherless babies will remedy his situation. his former spiritual father told him that seeking a second term will spell doom for him and he got frightened and chased the pastor out of town and Nigeria. still running scared and mad, he closed the pastor's church and school leaving both the teachers and hundreds of students stranded in the middle of the school year. now he is even scared of his own shadow. poor man!

the governor should get down to making real impact. for now, he is playing politics. he has innumerable technical assistants most of who are poor, hungry and useless fellows who follow him about and hail him. he should also create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. a situation where all the billboards in his state capital contain photos of him and his wife is unacceptable; some should belong to businesses. to make matters worse, the few signboards advertising some shops are marked for removal. we decent ebonyi people are tired of seeing photos of him and rachael and watching him paint everywhere in the garish colours of his wife's lipstick. enough of the nonsense.

it is exactly this useless sloganeering that gave us daddy buhari. what is the meaning of 'based on logistics?' and 'I am real?' they sound like 'change.' it is from choosing thrash in little things like BBN that we graduate to electing tormentors.

the reason tboss will win is because her few supporters are over- dedicated and are cyber-savvy. one move on wechat and hundred votes drop; they are also using their money to vote. for efe, they will wait to collect free recharge card and or cash for that, drink water first with part of the card money and send one vote by sms. anyway sunday don nearly reach.

Health / Re: In Which Hospital Can I Check For GENOTYPE Of Unborn Child Here In Nigeria. by missuzoma: 10:30am On Feb 24, 2017
my personal experience in this matter is a subject of testimony. we both knew our genotypes were as but we were (still are) so much in love and could not bear separating. we cried and prayed and married. none of our three kids is ss and they are grown now. we did not have extraordinary faith and often panicked when it came to testing them for genotype. we were very young and i do not think i will attempt such a thing if i had been up to 27 years or above at the time of marriage. i also know i will shout wella if any of my kids try such a thing after what i have seen people go through with ss kids. recently, i watched a cousin's twenty-five year old daughter die right under my nose from sickle cell disease complications. i am at a loss what to advise other than to listen very well to what the almighty has to say in every situation.
