Thecvbankng:Well, I have seen someone with a success mail, I don't have her permission to share it. She was congratulated and given numbers to call so her appointment for medicals could be smoothly booked for between next Monday and Wednesday. They attached a form for her to print and take along when going for the medicals. She was interviewed on Monday evening. I was equally surprised at the speed with which her success mail arrived after an interview late evening on Monday. It maybe that more success mails are loading if more interviews held yesterday evening but I got her to forward the letter and I saw it with my two eyes. |

Nairaland / General / How Air Peace Lady Pilot Averted Fatal Accident Yesterday At Lagos Airport by missuzoma: 2:05pm On Jul 24, 2019 |
Exclusive: How Air Peace Female Pilot Averted Fatal Accident at Lagos Airport Air Peace Airline Pilot, Simisola Ajibola, Tuesday, averted what could have been another fatal mishap in Nigeria’s aviation history, The NEXT EDITION has found out. Ajibola was flying Air Peace’s Boeing 733 aircraft with Registration Number: 5BNQO and Call Sign: 7191; when it crash-landed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The aircraft was said to have gone through relevant safety procedures before takeoff at the Port Harcourt International Airport with about 136 passengers and six crew members. A total of 142 persons including the pilot were onboard the aircraft which almost ended in flames during an emergency landing. Captain Simisola Ajibola This newspaper learnt that the landing gear of the aircraft malfunctioned just as the pilot got clearance to land. A top aviation officer told this newspaper in confidence that while approaching Lagos, the aircraft encountered a mild turbulence that slightly shook it. The source said being a normal occurrence, the pilot carefully manoeuvred through and sought permission to land. “It was at that point the she might have found that the landing gear had malfunctioned and the only option was a forced landing,” the source said. Aware of the danger of using the airport’s Runway 18-L, which is shorter and unsuitable under the circumstances, the pilot was said to have urgently requested clearance to use Runway 18-R. Runway 18-R is said to be longer and located at the International Wing of the airport. “As soon as she got clearance, she landed the aircraft with minimum damage to the fuselage but some passengers were seriously traumatised. “It is normal practice to land an aircraft forcefully under factors outside the pilot’s control, such as the failure of engines, systems, components or weather which makes continued flight impossible,” the source said. Our correspondent learnt the aircraft landed on its belly and in the process lost its front tyres. One of the passengers on the aircraft took to Tweeter to recount the experience. With the handle @Ariellafitness, the passenger wrote, “As we arrived in Lagos on Air Peace, the pilot announced that we will be landing at the international tarmac because of visibility issues. “Some minutes later, it seems the plane started to nosedive quickly. But the pilot applied control, it picked up speed and then bang! “We dropped from the sky to the hard ground and the ceiling of the plane dropped, children were crying. “The pilot informed that she can’t estimate the damage, however, that the plane lost its both tyres. “That she had signalled for an evacuation. She kept working hard, though unsuccessfully, to calm the agitated. “They said they were waiting for the tow truck to tow the vehicle from the international tarmac to the local. “I got my inhaler as we awaited emergency rescue. They came 52 minutes later. Nigeria’s response time! “We for ‘don burn finish’ if not for God! Praise God for us. He averted what could have been a tragic plane crash.” The spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Henrietta Yakubu, while confirming the incident denied rescue officials delayed evacuating the passengers. She said officials of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), have been deployed to the site of the accident. “AIB officials have been deployed to the scene and we are still waiting for the details,” she had told journalist, Tuesday afternoon. However, a tweet by the AIB had indicated that no life was lost and also confirmed its investigators were on their way to the site of the accident. Air Peace also confirmed the incident but indicated that the pilot noticed sudden weather changes when approaching Lagos air space. Given the situation, it said the pilot demanded to land on the international runway which is longer and wider than the domestic runway. “After landing safely and rolling to the runway exit, the nose gear developed a problem and partially collapsed. “The crew notified the airport authorities who quickly ensured the safe disembarkation of the passengers,” the airline said. Ajibola, who joined Air Peace in February 2017 as a Senior First Officer (SFO), was decorated the airline’s first woman pilot on July 3, 2018. She is from a family of pilots, the father and four brothers, three of whom are with Air Peace. Forced landing is made by an aircraft under factors outside the pilot’s control, such as the failure of engines, systems, components or weather which makes continued flight impossible. Apart from pilot error, experts at DVI Aviation have listed some of the common mechanically related causes for aircraft landing gear failures to include: · Improper rigging · Improper repairs or maintenance · Parts worn beyond their allowable service limits · Improper installation of parts · Improperly secured parts · Use of non-standard or unapproved parts · Failure or fatigue of parts · Rupture of hydraulic lines. · Failure of electrical wire connections, relays, contactors, and/or actuators · Malfunctions of warning systems · Inoperative limit and safety switches · Uplocks failed to release · Down locks failed to engage · Wheels jammed or hung up in wheel wells · Lack of lubrication · Lack of hydraulic fluid · Retraction of landing with tow bar https://www.nextedition.com.ng/2019/07/24/exclusive-how-air-peace-pilot-averted-fatal-accident-at-lagos-airport/ |

This is half of the story. Umahi has been in a battle with the villagers around that area because he wanted to snatch a communal land of over 300 plots. He may have arranged the kidnap to create a state of emergency and in the process be able to arrest community leaders and snatch the land for personal use. |

Education / Imo People Give Rochas Ultimatum To Name Owner Of Eastern Palm University by missuzoma: 3:46pm On Jun 21, 2018 |
By Jude Aguguo Owuamanam, Owerri Tension is mounting between Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and his kinsmen from Orlu on the one hand, and between the Orlu people and the legislative arm in the state on the other, over the proposed law on the equity holding of Eastern Pam University (EPU) located in Okorocha’s village of Ogboko in Orlu. EPU was established by Law No. 13 of 2016 of Imo State and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016. The university, a Public/Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to be a world class university anchored on excellence and research needs of all relevant persons, irrespective of gender, nationality, religion or political inclination. However, the concept of a private/public partnership in the law setting up the university is a subject of controversy. More controversial is a proposed law by the Imo State House of Assembly which tends to give 90 per cent equity holding to the governor of the state and 10 per cent to the state government. At the centre of a looming legal battle is the Orlu Elders’ Council (OEC), where the governor hails from and the state legislature. Secretary General of Orlu Elders Council, Professor Protus Nathan Uzoma, has given the two parties a 21-day ultimatum to name the owner of the university between the governor and the state. Uzoma, while speaking to our correspondent on the issue threatened that if after 21 days, they failed to name the owner, OEC will not hesitate to go to court. Prof Uzoma said whereas the governor had said the university belonged to the state, the legislators surreptitiously, at the instigation of the governor, made him a major shareholder. He said: “We have given the House of Assembly 21 days to explain in clear terms who actually owns Palm Beach University because it was built with the people’s money and if at the end of 21 days they fail to do so, we will not hesitate to file legal action against them and the state government to ascertain the real owners. “There are three ways of owning a university in Nigeria - federal, state and private - and if for any reason Okorocha wants to establish a university, he should do so with his own money. Giving Okorocha 90 per cent shares of the university built with state funds is like robbing the people of the state and the law establishing a university in Nigeria does not make any provision for PPP. “University is not for profit making, but centres of scholarship and excellence.” Prof Uzoma added that, “The passage of that bill showed that we have no House of Assembly in a state like Imo that has a very high preponderance of educated people. Our silence should not be taken for granted.” However, the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo, disputed the claims. He told our correspondent that the proposed law didn’t make the governor a majority shareholder. Ozuruigbo said what the law proposed was that being a PPP project, the governor, as the visitor to the university, will nominate who will have a controlling interest in the arrangement. “The proposed law did not give the governor 90 per cent equity as alleged. However, what the law says is that the visitor to the university can nominate a person who will have a controlling interest since it is a PPP arrangement.” Also speaking on the issue, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said he has not seen the law, adding that he would rather prefer to avail his comments when the litigants go to court or when the law is officially passed.
