She speaks on some issues with TOPE OLUKOLE. How’s your divorce case going? We are still in court, but I am sure judgment would be passed soon. So, we take it from there. Have you found another love? I can’t think of another man until the first one is all over. Have you reviewed the qualities of your man? He’s got to be God-fearing, It is not about being handsome, tall or hardworking. All those ones are necessary but the foundation, the background, when a man has got the fear of God, then he would understand what it means to truly love a woman. That means he will cherish her. And that means he will be by her side through thick and thin; when she grows old, when she grows fat, when she’s sick. So, when a man knows God, he’s a better man. But on the other hand, one needs a man who’s got a job. It’s not about being a millionaire, he must have something he’s doing, so that he can have a sense of belonging, a sense of individuality. Are men not disturbing you with calls since you are single again? I haven’t seen them o. Please tell them to come o. Tell them to come very fast, I want them because my God said a woman should not be alone. And a man should not be alone too. You still look stunning at your age, what has sustained you? My faith in God. I have absolute faith in God. And when you have faith in God, He will just give you glory all the way. Apart from God? I love dancing and I take a lot of water. I am also crazy about fruits. Anybody who knows me will know I love fruits and water. But some say sex is also good? There are lots of other things that keep one younger and stronger. Not sex? That’s one. It’s a form of exercise. That’s what we know. It is one of the recipes for looking youthful, younger and a great shape for those who can get it. What’s the hardest part of your job? It’s when people attribute the role you have done in a movie to your personal life, forgetting that we are doing a make-believe job, that somebody wrote out the story and we are just chosen to act it. On the other hand, I will take it as a credit because it means you’ve done your job very, very well. What’s the worst thing that has been written about you? I don’t really put this in mind because I just consider the fact that being in the public eye, whether you like it or not, people would want to write good or bad. As they say, bad news is news and good news is no news. When you look back, would you say you are living your dream? Let me put it this way, I won’t say I came into Nollywood to be noticed. I just had the innate desire to do my job. I just found out that when I was small, I loved acting. So, for me, it wasn’t to be known or for material benefit but to make people happy. I remember I used to do comic stuff with my siblings. I would wear my father’s coat and shoes to act like him or sometimes I would tie my mummy’s headgear and act like her. For now, you can say I am living my dream of entertaining people and being a role model. Then, I haven’t got to the height of my career. So, I am not living my dream completely until we shoot movies that would be accepted internationally more than what we have already. I am also looking at movies shot with hightech equipment and a lot of money involved. It may be a kind of collaboration of international artistes in Hollywood, only then will I say I am living my dream. What is the good thing about being an actress? The fact that it opens doors for you, people appreciate you, you stand above the crowd. What to you is the greatest problem of Nollywood? We don’t have the kind of money we need to make the kind of movies we need. I give kudos to those who started the industry out of nothing. Now it has gone beyond them. We need billionaires to come into the industry to do better movies. The industry will fall if these investors don’t come. It will fall because a lot of criticisms are coming up. People are now looking at scriptwriting, acting, directing and all other aspects of production. So, you need money to meet up with these challenges. It is no longer what we used to produce. We have international exposure and people are expecting more. A lot of your colleagues and even younger actresses are going into movies production, what’s delaying you? Not everybody can be a producer. We are all cut out to do different things. Kudos to those who ventured into some other things. I have other things I am also doing. I have always been into private enterprise, which I don’t have to go about showcasing or talk about so much. For my colleagues, I watch their movies and I am happy for them. How is your son, Joshua doing? I thank God. It’s been hectic moving from one hospital to the other. That is why one needs a man to assist. |
Gene is not overrated. The Lady is GOOD, and deserves the encomium she gets. |
How old are you now? From what I gathered about my age, I should be 48. I do not have any data, but my mum told me the period. She also said I was only three months old when my father passed away. Has there been noticeable improvement in your condition? Well, the doctors may say it is improving today but next week, it would swell again. My blood pressure is still high. I want to be well again and I do not want to go and see any native doctor, that is why I put my faith in God. Recently, I was told in the Church I attend now that what is wrong with me is spiritual. The Prophet said there are living things in my leg. What is the name of the Church? I can’t remember. You know I just joined. But the name of the man in charge is Prophet Samson. He is located in Satelite town Lagos. Apart from some of your colleagues, have you had help from other places? I was in a difficult financial position so I sent a text (SMS) to my governor, Theodore Orji and he responded well by paying my hospital bill the last time I was on admission. He has not seen me physically, but he did it and I pray when I get better I will visit him. A few media houses have carried my story, but to my surprise, I have not heard anything. I still ask my governor for help. I sincerely need help. I have fainted in this house three times and the fourth one was in the hospital. Nobody attends to me, that is why God will bless this friend that said I should come and stay with him. He is from Anambra while I am from Abia. I don’t wish my enemy what I am going through. In the afternoons I don’t sleep because of pain. At night, it is even worse. I need help from people, especially my eastern brothers and sisters. I am not a small actor because I know nobody would say they don’t know my name. I don’t know why people are not responding. My biggest pain now is about my first son. He is just 14- and already in SSS 3. He is taller than me and already close to 6ft. He said he wants to be a basketball player, but how can I , (he starts weeping bitterly, so the interview had to stop). |

In this interview, he tells Taiye Agbaje who was at a show where he performed, some of his experiences and the things upcoming comedians should know. How will you describe comedy in Nigeria? You know it was not long comedy came into Nigeria. So far so good, it has fared well and I believe it will grow bigger than this. So many people are still coming to add value to comedy in Nigeria because it is harder than music. This is so because anywhere you perform, you have to say things, do things in accordance with the event and the kind of people that are there. So, it is hard. In fact, one of the hardest jobs in this world is to make people laugh. It is not an easy thing. That is why our Bros, Ali Baba, says “Being funny is a very serious business.” It is not that easy, but I know in time to come, there is going to be a lot of value added to it. We are actually, not really complaining that much. For how long have you been in comedy? Well, I have been in this all my life, but I started performing publicly from 1990/92. However, I came into limelight in 2000/2001. Can you share some of your experiences? It is lovely, just like every other credible business. But one thing about comedy is that if you do not prepare very well, you will mess up. If you don’t prepare, that means you are preparing to fail. So, you have to keep your brain sharp and do a lot of mental exercise; get yourself in the know of what is happening in and around your environment. So, you have to really be up and doing in terms of current affairs and every other thing. What attributes must aspiring comedians possess? Talent! You need talent; if you possess the talent and you grow it, you have nothing to fear. But if you want to push yourself in, you will only reign for a while. If you are endowed with the God given talent, and you walk along the track, it will never fail you. What advice do you have for those willing to go into comedy? They should try to be original and know that if they have the talent, nothing can stop them from being who they want to be. Nowadays, some people come into the business with the aim of being someone else. They say: “Let me be like this person or that person.” You don’t have to be like any one, rather, just be yourself and keep going and by so doing, God knows, you will get to the point, where people will want to be like you too. Why the drunken character; do you really get drunk before coming on stage? Actually, the reason for this act is to teach people how stupid they look and behave when they are drunk. I am only trying to make people understand that if they must drink, they have to drink responsibly. I am a mockery of a drunken man. I am not praising it; rather, I am making a mockery of it. You can imagine that I just came out of stage; I don’t think within the time I came out, it would have been enough to make me sober if I was drunk. I don’t like alcohol; it is actually not good for my system. I am, practically, what you can describe as an occasional drinker; especially when the occasion demands. I can sip a glass or bottle of bear for the whole night and allow you to get drunk; then, I learn what to do in my next show from you |
^^ True that. And the broom-stick, drop-dead gorgeous ones end up with a 50 cent. ![]() |
Just so You people don't preach whatchu don't know - GOD isn't allah eh. ada24:Which happens to be false. For every reaction, there must have been a pre-action. If wife nags, husband must have done something to make her nag. If husband beats, wife must have done something to make husband beat. . . . and the cycle continues. Everyone has a reason to act violently or peacefully - Flimsy or Concrete. Just think it twice before you react to someone's action. Can ma reaction possibly get me into trouble, should be a good question to ask oneself before acting. ada24:Yez! |

No excuse can exculpate not paying tithe. Play Your part - Pay your tithe. Whoever spends your money on a wrong project will have GOD question him. Ask God to deduct 10% before the sum gets to you? Hilarious! Please, be serious. |
Poor man . . . Poor Woman . . . .Poor Children. How could man have known that, that usual dose he dishes out to wife in order to put her in check mode, would lead to her death one day? That day! An incident that could have be precluded beforehand - Either by wife, walking away the first time husband raised his hands against her or husband growing up, realizing that violence isn't the best way to put one's house in order. Like play . . .Like play, she's dead. Like he said, dead over NOTHING. Who would blame Woman for nagging? Receiving little or no financial care from husband, as if that's not enough, temporarily left to take care of both kids alone, when the hubby could have offered a helping hand to ease the stress. Anger+Anger. Deciding to pounce on and pour out her anger on husband . . . The upshot is death. ''If you don't kill me, I won't leave you'' has now become reality. Poor Kids. They had probably watched their mother undergo physical abuse and heard her repeatedly use the line '' if you don't kill me, I'm not leaving'' . Now, they will have to forever live with the knowledge that dad eventually killed mum and she's gone. At 32. I can only hope, that they don't grow up with the ''you must kill me today'' mentality. That mentality of 'you must stay, he will change with time, tolerate the beating, pata-pata na death go end am but you musn't leave before that death comes o'. That mentality that encourages abuse. . . .And That's how abuse is going to be passed from one generation to another and we'll find it difficult to extirpate it, because I saw mama endure, aunty so-so also did, I also will and my kids will and their kids will and so on. |
