PoliticsCourt Dismisses Suit Seeking To Remove Gov. Yahaya Bello by MisterGrace(op): 12:17pm On Mar 21, 2018
The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed a suit seeking to remove Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, from office.

Justice John Tsoho dismissed the suit on grounds that the plaintiffs, Michael Elokun, Ibrahim Sule and Hawa Audi had no business instituting the case.

The plaintiffs were asking the court to grant an order for the return and immediate swearing-in of Idris Wada, the immediate past governor of the state.

Mr. Tsoho, in his judgment, upheld the objection of Mr. Bello that the plaintiffs had no “locus standi” to institute the action.

He held that the plaintiffs were neither members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor aspirants in the primary election that made Mr. Bello the candidate of the party in the governorship election.

Moreso, the court agreed with Mr. Bello that the plaintiffs were not the only electorate in Kogi State.

The judge also held that the subject matter of the suit was not within the jurisdiction of the court as it was not a pre-election matter.

He said that the suit was bound to fail because it was filed almost two years after Bello had been sworn in as the democratically-elected governor of Kogi.

Other defendants in the suit are the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Gbenga Odogun, Lokoja

Ten persons, including a traditional ruler, the Onu Agbenema, Musa Edibo; and his wife have been killed, while several houses were burnt down by suspected herdsmen in separate attacks on Agbenema, Aj’Ichekpa, Opada and Iyade villages, on Monday.

Agbenema is in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The attackers who were allegedly armed with sophisticated weapons hid in the bushes around these villages from were they reportedly launched deadly attacks on their targets.

According to the natives, the herdsmen whose mode of operation is to set the houses ablaze and open fire on the fleeing inhabitants, allegedly slit victims’ throats and cut off their vital parts.

The natives who would not want their names in print stated that the administrator of Omala LGA, Ibrahim Aboh, was lucky to have escaped from the attackers.

Also, the houses of former chairman, Adofu Stephen; and that of his parents were burnt.

Residents said soldiers who were drafted to curtail the herdsmen’s rampage allegedly refused to assist them to repel the suspected herdsmen.

“We were surprised when we approached the soldiers who were stationed at the Guest House at Abejukolo for assistance.

“They refused to act professionally, as they used their vehicle to block us from advancing to the troubled spot to help our people.

“They have razed down Ojuwo Ajomayeigbi, Iyade, Agbenema and Opada villages.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command said he was yet to be briefed by the DPO in Omala.

He promised to get back with details.

N53m Fraud: Kogi Gov’s Chief Of Staff, Edward Onoja To Face Senate Ethics Committee

The Senate committee on Ethics and Privileges and Public Petitions has commenced investigation into an alleged fraud committed by the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Chief Edward Onoja.

In a petition submitted to the Senate on July 12, 2017, Onoja was alleged to have committed N53million fraud while working with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

While submitting the petition against Mr. Onoja by Senator Hamman Misau representing Bauchi Central Senatorial district, he explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had sometime ago invited Onoja, but was let off the hook.

Admitting the petition in line with the Senate rules, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki asked the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu representing Imo East Senatorial district to do a thorough investigation and revert to the Chambers.

The Senate Committee has invited Onoja to appear before her on Wednesday, March 14.

In recent times, there has been a lot of argument as to which CMS is better between wordpress and joomla.

Personally, I love both. But I prefer joomla more, because it helps me to keep practicing coding no matter how little.
Apart from that, it has lot's of support and extensions and components.

Wordpress on the order is outstanding for it's millions of available and free plugings plus a huge base of supports.
It is almost everywhere.

Which do you think is the best?

Recall that there was misinformation about Gov. Bello dissolving his cabinet members yesterday.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mrs. Petra Onyegbule broke the news via her Facebook page. She later deleted the message but not when people had already screenshot it.

Just about that time, other aides to the governor took to social media to refute the claims, but the damage had already been done.

This angered the Chief of Staff of the Governor who took to his social media accounts to blast the incompetent aides and workers.

Reports reaching us has it that the house is now deeply divided into factions and groups.

Although the Chief Press Secretary tendered an apology on Facebook account, but it seems irrelevant to the affected officials.

Politics"Yahaya Bello Is Little Hitler" - Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe by MisterGrace(op): 10:03am On Mar 08, 2018
Moment Senators called Governor little Hitler, threat to democracy

Senators blast Governor Yahaya Bello over alleged attacks on some ‘perceived political enemies’ in the state.

Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello (TheCable)
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state came under heavy backlash on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Trouble started when Senator Ahmed Ogembe raised an alarm over alleged attack him and members of his constituents during an empowerment programme in his constituency, Kogi Central.

https://www.thetowncrier.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/28577388_562248340820002_4560756504097942733_n-660x330.jpg

Speaking at Plenary, Ogembe alleged that hoodlums and miscreants had disrupted his empowerment programme.

The lawmaker accused the Area Commander of Okene Division and Divisional Police Officer of Okene and Adavi, of withdrawing officers from the venue.

It was at this moment that lawmakers went berserk.

First was Abia lawmaker, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

‘Yahaya Bello behaves like a little Hitler’

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Ripples Nigeria)
Describing the situation in Kogi as disturbing, Abaribe expressed worry that things may get worse if governors like Bello gain control over the Police in their states.

The Senator described Governor Bello’s rule in Kogi state as bad example of youths in leadership.

He also took President Muhammadu Buhari to the cleaners.

“Why would a member of this Hallowed Chamber not be left to do what he has to do for his constituents? It may be him today but it will be another person tomorrow,” Abaribe said.

“That means if the governor doesn’t like what you are doing, he will send the Police after you. How can we live in this country and have an avowed war hero who told us that ‘once I step into office, I will take care of security’? Yet, things are worse than ever.

“We shouldn’t put this under the table. It was Dino, now Ogembe. Tomorrow it may be Aidoko, all in the same Kogi state.

“People have been running around and saying that we need youths in government. The man in Kogi is a youth but how come this youth does not know what he is doing? There is so much insecurity in this particular place.

Governor Yahaya Bello has assured President Buhari of more votes from Kogi state in 2019. (Facebook)
“That does not give credence that this country should be handed over to a youth. If we hand over this country to him, what will now happen? This country will be thrown to the dogs. It is not youth but the ideas that you have.

“I want you to even go for that his seat because if that is what is making him feel so big, let someone else challenge him. We cannot continue this way where Senators will be afraid to go home because somebody is sitting down there, deciding that he will be a little Hitler,” Abaribe said.

“Yahaya Bello is a threat to Nigeria’s democracy’
Contributing to the motion, deputy Senate leader, Bala Na’Allah described Governor Benno as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

“Yesterday it was Dino, some people are saying it’s because Dino is creating problem, what problem is Ogembe creating? The issue of Kogi is a very serious matter.

“From what I have been reading, I have tried to restrain myself from commenting but it appears we can validly say that the Governor of Kogi is a threat to our democracy,” Na’Allah said.

‘Bello sent Kogi SARS after me’
Describing Bello as ‘Kogi’s coroneted governor’, Senator Dino Melaye said fierce-looking operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were at the court to arrest him after he was granted bail.

“I will recap shortly what I went through in the hands of the coroneted governor of Kogi state. On March 1, I was arraigned by the party I worked for and the government I helped to install. I appeared before the court where the federal government insisted they are vehemently opposing my bail for a concocted minor offence.

“Haven’t been granted bail. I was quickly alerted that they were over one hundred Policemen from SARS that they were outside the court waiting to arrest me. I was wondering that it was untrue but it was confirmed that fierce-looking men carrying arms and ammunitions with SARS written on their caps and vests. Some of them masked.

“Even if you were going for the head of Shekau, you wouldn’t have you wouldn’t have prepared any better. I was in that court for hours and they laid siege for hours. Every car coming in and out of the court were being checked. Somehow because I serve a living God, the angels of the Lord took me out of that court unnoticed and unhurt. They laid siege for more than five hours after I was resting on my bed,” Melaye said.

The lawmaker questioned the move to arrest him without prior notification sent to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

‘Yahaya Bello will not win re-election if…’
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, while recounting his experience, said Governor Bello may lose his seat if he ‘continues with his antics’.

“You will recall that sometime last year when they wanted to recall Dino I advised the governor that they are wasting the resources of that state, that it is mission impossible.

“They took three pages in the newspaper abusing me. Are we still hearing the recall today? Money has been wasted. Money that has been used to pay salaries of people in Kogi state was used to mobilise people to recall senator Dino yet those people have not been paid and Dino is still here.

“Today, I am advising the governor again, that road he is travelling will not lead him to anywhere. Ultimately, these people he is seeing here will be back here and he will leave office. If he doesn’t stop, there is no how he will come back in 2019, never. No. He will not.

“God will show him that he is a God of justice and this is a message to all those people who have caused all kinds of problem in Nigeria at different level.

“The problem in Nigeria is that our democracy is receding. Who says army cannot take over, let us not joke with our democracy, that is the issue.

“The house of a senator was destroyed in Kaduna state. We are talking about Kwankwaso who was stopped from going to his state where he ruled for eight years. In Kaduna, Shehu Sani cannot organise a meeting and we are talking about a democracy? The international community needs to know this because they helped us install democracy.

“Nigeria is losing its position in the comity of nations where are now a second class nation not just in Africa but in West Africa that we are supposed to be controlling. We are losing in every dimension. The only institution to save our democracy is this national assembly. No matter the oppression, men will do what they want to do but God has the final say,” Ekweremadu said.

Senate President expressed concerns over the actions of some state governors in the country.

“It is not rarely about Kogi state, it is clear that Kogi is becoming the point where there is a threat to our democracy. This is not what democracy is all about. For the role we play in comity of nations we need to be good examples to other parts of the world.

“These kind of actions are unacceptable, it starts with one state – many of us have been privilege to be governors and we are almost 20 years in democracy, this is not the democracy that we should be talking about. We saw the case in Kaduna state, how a governor would go and bulldoze a house, in Nigeria? At this time and we are all still keeping quiet. These are things we must condemn totally,” the Senate president added.

Resolutions

The Senate resolved to send an adhoc committee to investigate the disruption of the empowerment programme by Senator Ogembe in his constituency.

Breaking News: Kogi State Governor disappointed again as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo turned down another invitation to flag off Kogi Investment Program scheduled to hold tomorrow, 13 February 2018.

The Governor who went to Abuja to join the Vice President's entourage to Lokoja tomorrow has ordered his protocol back to the Confluence City where the shocking news was delivered to some of the Governor's lieutenants who were eager in anticipation of the August visitor's arrival.

They hoped that his visit may douse down the much talked about unguided comment of the young Governor against the most respected Catholic Bishops of Nigeria.

More details to follow.

Update:

Breaking News:

Again Kogi State Governor in an embarrassing depressed mood as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo turned down another invitation to flag off Kogi investment project scheduled to hold tomorrow the 13 February 2018.
The Governor who went to Abuja with the intent of cajoling the Vice President to the confluence city tomorrow for the flag off an illusive investment project, will be returning tomorrow sorrowfully without success. The controversial Governor has now disappointingly ordered his protocol back to the Lokoja. Meanwhile, his lieutenants who were waiting anxiously to make a huge news item from the VP's visit received this as rude shock.

Recall that the voluble Governor taunted the Catholic hierarchy as corrupt for advising President Buhari on governance. This generated serious tension amongst the Catholic faithfuls and other Christians in Kogi State and Nigeria. The invitation of the Vice President was meant to be a palliative for dousing the tension generated by the Governor's unguided remarks.

All phone calls and text messages to the Director General on media to the Governor Mr. Kingsley Fanwo were not unanswered.

Looters tithes’ comment: Catholic bishops, groups lambast Kogi gov
By Unini Chioma -Feb 11, 20180

He’s a disgrace to Not-too-Young-to-Run Campaign –Catholic groups

https://www.thetowncrier.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/PIC.-21.-KOGI-GOVERNOR-ELECT-YAHAYA-BELLO1-660x330.jpg

Also, the National Director, Caritas Nigeria and Justice Development and Peace Commission, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, said Bello was a disgrace to the Not-too-Young-to-Run Campaign. The CN and JDPC are two agencies of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

Bassey said, “Governor Yahaya Bello does not dignify a response. However, he is a disgrace to the Not-too-Young-to-Run Campaign. I believe Bello thinks that by freezing when President Buhari coughs, he will be spared from the wrath of God through the Kogi people who are dying each day because of unpaid salaries and misgovernance.

Even if he escapes human judgment, he will not escape the eternal consequences unless he repents and be a true servant of the people.”

He’s not God-fearing, states PPA chairman

In his own reaction, the National Chairman of the PPA, Chief Peter Ameh, in a statement on Saturday, said Bello had shown he lacked God-fearing characteristics.

Ameh, who is also a Catholic, said, “Knowing the level of sacrifice it takes to become a priest in the Catholic Church, I’m really baffled by the unwarranted attack by the non-performing governor of Kogi.

“It is on record that he remains the governor with the highest number of months of unpaid salaries and non performance despite the huge amount of both internal and federally-generated revenues.

“It is obvious Bello is really looking up to the President for salvation because it is the opposite of the culture and respect Kogi people are known for that he will descend so low to attack the highly-respected position of the Catholic bishops for advice directed at the President.”
The Christian Association of Nigeria, prominent Catholic bishops, two Catholic groups among others have berated Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for attacking Catholic leaders who visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock last week.

Prominent groups that lambasted Bello for taunting the clerics are the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership and the Progressives Peoples Alliance.

Others, who reacted to the governor’s statement, were the Archdiocese Emeritus, Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Alaba Job, and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

The Catholic bishops had, during a visit to the Presidential Villa on Thursday, told the President that his goodwill had depleted by his glaring failures.

The bishops, under the aegis of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, had expressed their disappointment with the state of the nation and told the President that Nigerians were angry as a result of bad governance in the country.

But Bello, in an interview with the State House correspondents on Friday, told the bishops that only those who were no more getting stolen money to pay tithes were angry with Buhari.

“And of course, those who have looted the country dry and normally go to the church and mosque to pay tithe, are no longer doing so. Of course, these are the category of people that are angry,” the governor had stated.

Bello, a character who accidently found himself in power –Kukah

But in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Saturday, Kukah described Bello’s statement as “a tragedy of leadership in Nigeria.”

He said, “The statement of the governor is not worthy of my comment because I believe that the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria stands for something higher than that. I won’t even dignify him with a response.”

When prodded to speak further on the issue, Kukah added, “This is a character (Bello) that nobody heard anything from until he suddenly accidentally found himself in power. What does he (Bello) know about what the bishops have said? So, I don’t even want to dignify him with any response. I don’t think it’s worth giving him a story.

“Frankly, people of his calibre do not deserve our response. It is also a measure of the kind of people who have strayed into power. I am not going to go into any details. It is a tragedy of what we call leadership now in Nigeria. People who have come with no antecedents; they just come out of the woodworks and occupy an office. And so, I won’t dignify him (Bello) with any response.”

It’s a great pity if Bello made that statement — Job

In another reaction, the Archdiocese Emeritus, Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Alaba Job, described the statement made the governor as disappointing and out of context.

In an interview with PUNCH on Saturday in Ibadan on the telephone, Job advised the Kogi governor to revisit the purpose of the meeting and what the President told the bishops and compare with his statement.

Job stated, “The governor will not say it if he read what we said to President Buhari at the meeting in Abuja. We told Buhari the truth about what is happening in the country. We told him about hunger, lots of atrocities being committed in the nation, lots of killings here and there and he was happy that we spoke to him. He also told us what he is doing and what he plans to do more.

“I am sorry that the governor made that statement. Who are the people stealing for us? What he said is different from what we discussed with Buhari. Killings, kidnappings, and other forms of evil (practices) are around us. Boko Haram has, to some extent, been suppressed but we now have so many atrocities.

“We did not discuss any issue about money to the church. It is a great pity if a governor made that statement. As far back as 1994, Catholic Church bishops constituted a prayer group that has been praying against corruption in Nigeria.

“The governor’s statement does not ‘belong’ to us, not to the Catholic Church bishops in Nigeria. He should read the statement issued at the meeting and compare it to his own statement. It is out of context.”

Workers committing suicide under Bello’s watch — CAN

Also, CAN and the CDHR, in separate interviews with PUNCH on Saturday, advised the governor to address the rot, which he had allegedly brought upon Kogi State.

CAN urged Bello to focus on rescuing his state from the grip of kidnappers instead of “trying to be the President’s errand boy.”

The media aide to CAN President, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, noted that Bello had the rights to express himself, but insisted that what the bishops told the President was the truth about the situation in the country.

He added that the CAN leadership, led by Dr. Samson Ayokunle, had raised similar issues with Buhari during a visit in November last year, adding that what the President told the delegation was what he re-echoed during the Catholic Bishops’ visit.

Oladeji stressed that Nigerians had not experienced so much hardship like the prevailing one under the Buhari administration, adding that Bello should keep quiet if he had nothing sensible to say.

He added, “If he (Bello) says some people were looking for free money, he should keep quiet if he has nothing to say. Under his watch, people are committing suicide and he has refused to pay workers. If he is the one that would be running to Abuja to defend the President, then something is wrong somewhere.”

CAN explained that stakeholders had been harping on the terrible situation in the country, noting that only a few people, including Bello, were more interested in endorsing Buhari for another term in office rather than focusing on the welfare of their people.

“Go to his (Bello’s) state and see what is happening there; Okene is now the headquarters of kidnapping. If the welfare of his people is not his concern, he shouldn’t force the President to follow in his steps. If he wants to become the President’s errand boy, he should resign and relocate to Abuja,” he said.

Bello is overzealous when defending Buhari — CDHR

Also, the President, CDHR, Malachi Ugwummadu, said Bello was being more Catholic than the Pope.

He said, “Governor Yahaya Bello’s overzealousness in defence of Buhari on every issue as a party faithful is understandable, but certainly he is sounding more Catholic than the Pope.

“You recall that he was the same person that declared a three-day holiday in Kogi State simply because Buhari came from a long medical holiday abroad.

“If he understands the composition of that body, he would devote more energy in interrogating the issues raised rather than the disservice of attempting a dismissal which cannot, in effect, dislodge the critical issues raised.”

His comments opportunistic, says CACOL

In a similar vein, CACOL warned that the submissions of the Catholic bishops should not be dismissed as some Nigerians were truly dissatisfied, saying Bello’s comments were opportunistic.

The CACOL Director, Debo Adeniran, said, “It is true that people are angry for different reasons; although the bishops didn’t carry out any scientific study, the social media is there with so many commentaries.

“A few people are still very germane in their observations, particularly in the aspect of the President’s skewed appointments to a particular region. If there is lacklustre from those security quarters, people can raise complaints.

“Some of the comments (from the Kogi Governor and the bishops) are just opportunistic.”

Melaye apologises for Kogi gov’s ‘verbal diarrhoea’

Meanwhile, the Senator, representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has apologised to the Catholics and Christians in general for Bello’s alleged attack on the clerics.

Melaye, in a statement on Saturday, described Bello’s comments against the bishops as “verbal diarrhoea.”

He said, “I apologise to the Catholic Church and the Christian community for the verbal diarrhoea of the Governor of Kogi State. It is more obvious than ever that he needs some ‘equational’ balances at his end. This affliction on Nigeria shall not arise a second time.”
