So the drones have AI. I just hope that a future bomb-laden drone won't be hacked into and redirected to somewhere else and begin World War III. Other than that, nice job US Navy, when will the Nigerian Navy or Air Force take delivery of such wonderful toys? |
Webmasters / Re: Please Review My Website by mitey(m): 3:30pm On May 15, 2013 |
I don't have much time now, but a preliminary check with firebug in Firefox shows that you have multiple ids with the name of content. You can use a particular id only once in a web page, if you want to use it multiple times, you should instead use class. Also I see that you are using inline styles. Try to change id="content" to class="content" wherever it appears and then if all the menu items have the same styling, you can declare a new style for .content in your template's stylesheet. Please post what you have done and it's results. If I am not available to help, other webmasters can help out. Cheers! |

If you are sure you didn't forget your password, then was is probably hacked. If you still have access to your CPanel, reset your password by following these simple instructions here: http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/joomla-25/users/reset-user-password If you don't have access to your CPanel, then you have to contact your host immediately. |

Well, it will seem that the people concerned have taken down the web page and deleted the links on all the other pages. But I will still be cautious in dealing with them. |

ogbiwa: it helped a lot, and theres wisdom in it. Only that this is a start from scratch kind of thing, so it'l require a greater deal of finance to pay a web developer, around 850-950k, which'l require one goin around looking for external sources of funding like investors. And i dont think its healthy to involve those guys at this early stage of the business, thats if you can even get one. But thanks a lot, twas real helpful Then go iterative. I mean, think about how crappy MS-Word was when they started, but they are the leading office application now. Also, I have been seeing threads like Pictures of Nairaland and Facebook back in 2005 or whatever. They were nothing compared to what they are now. What am I saying? Learn a little and design a simple website based on that, or commission some developers to do a simple website first. Then as time goes on you add more and more features till you achieve the goal you currently have in mind. And trust me, as you take time and add features iteratively rather than at once, many of the features you have in mind will change as technology improves and as you spend more time thinking it over. And at the end, you have a far more superior product. 1 Like |
Webmasters / Please Be Careful About Cliqhosting by mitey(m): 9:16pm On May 07, 2013 |
I saw an ad about www.cliqhosting.com awhile back (here https://www.nairaland.com/1268554/unlimited-cpanel-shared-hosting) in the webmasters ads section and decided to check the website. On getting there, this is what their blog link showed: Today I checked the website and it's exactly the same. So be careful. A host that has an apparently hacked blog should not be trusted with your important information. |

A successful web application is not a one-time gig. Look at Nairaland, Facebook, Jumia, do you know how many changes they make per week to stay competitive and in the game. Facebook for instance employs over 5000 software engineers working full time day in day out. The decision is yours. Are you sure you are ready to take the time out to learn all the languages and applications needed to develop and maintain a web application? And mind you it is a full time job, that will take you years to perfect. Not all founders of successful online companies are web developers, you only need to be an entrepreneur. So if you feel you can't take the time to learn web development, you can employ others to do it for you. Hope this helps a little. 1 Like |

I need to buy a new Toyota car for use in Nigeria, which do I buy? 1. Toyota Camry: Comfortable, fast and prestigious. 2. Toyota Corolla: Good fuel economy, available spares 3. Toyota Tundra: Big, prestigious, off-road, etc. None of the car mentioned above is bad per se, but if I am a person who has the cash and likes speed but don't like big trucks, I'll go for the Camry. But if I travel a lot and I'm searching for best economy, I'll definitely go for the Corolla. @Topic, take your time and research the best CMS for the purpose you want. May the best Hope this helps. 1 Like |

Webmasters / Re: Nairaland Ads Should Open In A New Tab/window by mitey(m): 6:04pm On Mar 17, 2013 |
Seun: http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/web-usability/new-browser-windows.shtml Most browsers including mobile devices' browsers (and even IE, for that matter) use tabs, the article you quoted is against only windows. Adding a target="_blank" attribute to the ad links will quietly open them in new tabs, and the user is able to switch tabs easily and view the content without losing track of the current page. Additionally, quoting Dual Core, your users use Twitter, Facebook and Google for crying out loud and ALL their ad & user submitted links open in new tabs. So why should our own dear Nairaland be different? |
