Family › Re: Getting This Off My Chest: My Strained Relationship With My Dad by moabdul: 5:17pm On Nov 25, 2024 |
All I have to my brother, do it and even more and see how Allah keep answering your prayers. He is your Dad irrespective of his lifestyle. I am also in similar situation but I don't even have much to give my parents. amazinghands: I relocated to the United States about eight years ago. My relationship with my dad has been strained and continues to deteriorate.
Background: I grew up in a lower-middle-class family with both my mom and dad working hard. Everything changed when my dad started earning significant money. His newfound wealth led to a lifestyle filled with parties, women, and alcohol (to be fair, he earned his money, so he had the right to spend it as he pleased). He built a hotel and was barely home afterward.
2010: While I was in college, I wanted to leave Nigeria due to the incessant ASUU strikes. I told my dad I wanted to study abroad. Initially, he agreed and gave me the funds to start the process. I was admitted to a school in Ukraine and secured a visa, but he later said he couldn’t afford to send me abroad. This decision felt contradictory, as his lifestyle said otherwise. (To be fair, it’s his money, and he has the right to decide how to spend it.)
2016: I got admitted to a master’s program in the U.S. and approached my dad for help again. He told me to "cut my coat according to my size" and said he couldn’t sell any of his properties for the sake of a child studying abroad. (Again, to be fair, he was right—he had already paid for my college tuition in Nigeria.) Around the same time, he married another wife.
On the other hand, my mom sold her only piece of land and some jewelry to give me half of my first semester's tuition. After involving family members, my dad reluctantly gave me ₦400,000, stating that was all he could afford. I thanked him for the support.
Fast Forward to Today: I struggled and worked odd jobs to make ends meet, determined never to ask him for help again. Over time, I’ve become financially stable, secured a good job, and am now a permanent resident. I give my dad a monthly allowance and occasionally send more during festive seasons. My mom, on the other hand, gets spoiled with gifts, extra money, and I’ve even invited her to visit and spend time with me in the U.S.
Now, my dad is broke and has suggested I buy him a car and increase what I do for him, despite the fact that my parents are separated and he currently lives with his second wife. I’ve told myself I won’t go above and beyond for him, especially since he chose to prioritize his lifestyle and the new wife (who came with a stepson). I find it hard to reconcile his past decisions with his current expectations.
Am I in the wrong here? |

Ososo and Ogori magongo in logo state also share same culture like ovia Prechgold1180: Good pm fam I just pray you guys find this interesting
Me and some of my guys decided to take a trip to the famous ososo hills rock and mountain.
Located at akoko edo ,edo state
Ok. Let’s do a little history on ososo Ososo is a clan in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State with a population of about 200,108 people. The area is between 1,200 to 1450 feet above the seal level. The highest peak lies at 2,484 feet is a border town between Kogi and Edo State.
The historical background is that the Ososo man migrated from Ogbe Quarter in Benin City during the reign of Oba Ozolua in about 1481 A.D. It is also said that the ancestors went through many hardships and suffered so much losses on their way to the Northern part of Nigeria getting to “IDA” a town in the present Kogi State settled down temporarily at a place called ''Unuame'' (water side) where the lake came to "Enidegbe''.
The Ososo man could not find peace due to tribal wars and drowning of his children he left "Unuame" (water side) after the war of the year 1515 A and found their way to "Orugbe" in ''Adikhorikho” where they found comfort because of the stream it was also a good land for farming and hunting. This is where he gave birth “Ozshioso" (Ososo) because he could not have his good view of his enemies, he moved to ''Egbegu'' where he sighted "Orhke" where we have the present "Tourist Centre'' in Anni quarter a place he can vividly view the entire valley and its horizons down to ''Okhekhe" a pond area grown with elephant grasses in "Odokpa" quarter. He went next down to ''Egbetua"" but returned back to “Okhekhe” because of the fresh water and other good essential needs for life and has "Osuno''as a spy hill after settlement, he later discover lkpena quarter.
Ososo is made up of four quarters Anni, Egbetua, Okho and Ikpene these quarters has been sub-divided into eighteen since the villages have grown very large and have virtually become one nuclear settlement called Ososo chiefdom.
According to another information Ososo people in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State have a long history of migration. The town has four communities and they migrated from one source, ancient Benin kingdom, settling and resettling in almost the same land mass. These four communities according to Chief Otaru in an interview are Ani, Egbetua, Okhe and Ikpena. The Ikpena and Ani communities came through the place called “Uniamhe”, that is the River Niger bank of present day Ajaokuta/Okene axis. Others like Egbetua and Okhe communities of Ososo came through Okpella, and Makeke routes. In her contact with these towns, Ososo must have been influenced by their cultures and lifestyle as reflected in the similarity of dance and marriage performances.
To maintain constant contact between the four migrating communities, during this exodus, they devised various means of communication. They communicated with one another through the use of signs, symbols, insignia and other means: smoke, bush or grass tying, tree felling, stones and woods arrangements, ululation and these have now been incorporated into their dance culture. To preserve and articulate the migratory centripetal signs and symbols, and historical antecedent, dance was evolved been a powerful medium of expression.
To the Ososo people, life is a complete entity. It is good and peaceful. An understanding amongst the people is maintained through effective communication. This is their worldview and it is what informs the need for constant communication. The living, the dead and the unborn are constantly united by this belief system. As Oba Obaitan Adeloro (the king of Ososo) puts it, the dead, the living and the unborn are constantly united in dance, that is, the past, present and future are brought together in the “Ishimi-Ujo” (the people and masquerade (dance). The ancestor (the past) in masquerade form, blesses the living (the dancers), with tunborn (the future). This is also done mostly according to Chief Ajayi Ubuoro, in an interview, during the Unehe festival when the masquerades move from homestead to homestead blessing, admonishing, warning the wrong and warding off evil spirits from the society. This belief in the unity of the living and the dead is introduced into marriage dance whether for entertainment or punitive purposes. |

They shouldn't be sending text messages to tell beneficiaries their place of primary assignment. Deployment details should be on beneficiary dashboard. Which one is state focal person again The writeup here is not clear. It looks confusing |

Same here. Finished service 2015 still job hunting. xscoffy: Bros! I feel ur pains. Keep calm. God never forget you. I graduated and finished nysc in 2015 but stayed in the house for good 4 plus years though I stay in the city alone. I rejected many job offers below 50k monthly salary (cos I once did it n saw how it can tie someone both spritually, mentally and physically) within this period just to hit my first offshore job with zero experience in oil sector in late 2019. Though it's contract job but it's pay worth d stress. Am always here cos I still need a federal govt job. I need something with job security.
So what am I saying? Just relax and keep doing the lil u can do now with time it will happen like a miracle. Belive me. It's well bro. God will see you through. Do have a nice day |

Akalia: Then the religious leader is the one my comment should go to but you are also an accomplice. Yes I was in your DM a while ago but then I realized that you and your so called contact are taking advantage of people's craze for white collar job. Your contact might be genuine but he is too greedy and inconsiderate for someone that is a religious leader. Shame on him. If you have 1.2 million and you are still looking for a job slot to buy then you really must be very empty on the inside. 1.2 million is a great deal of money to establish oneself in some medium size business today in Nigeria. You think to say e easy to start a business bah. Wait till different challenges set in. No be everybody go do business oooo. |

Never give up bro. Mine was more than 200 and was never called. Putting up with Photography now but still not easy mehn. Barbiturate: Within a year, I've applied for 188 jobs on LinkedIn. Some I was called for test and interviews, some I was never called. None of them gave me a job. There are some I applied via mail, not LinkedIn "easy apply"......so it should be over 200.
The last one was with a Yoruba company in Lagos. I applied via LinkedIn. I passed through 3 interview processes. The 4th was with the MD/CEO( Yoruba aged and titled man). He practically told me I am omo ibo(ibo man) and that I don't have the passport.
I'm officially done searching for jobs!!! I'm throwing in the towel! |
