@Modestgal you need to calm your nerves and always believe u can do well in the GRE exam.I could remember some months ago i almost gave up in writing the GRE exam cos of combining work and reading for the exam was not that easy for me,but one particular midnite, i read Drhopeful inspirational writeup couple with seeker88 on this thread,i realize i don't ave any excuse not to achieve my dream cos it has always being my dream to study abroad after my Bsc in Nigeria.
I need to let you know dat my preparation has really improved exponentially after following advice from my fellow GRE colleague.I will be writing the exam early next year precisely Feb God willing.I will advise you take your time to study so dat you can understand the concept and strategies on how to ace the exam before showing for the exam.I hope this will inspire you and any other people facing such difficulties.

Remember, Canada doesn't require GRE but their admission is fucking competitive not to talk of funding but US is still fair with admission.

Don't allow your fear make you not to get to your dreamland. Conquer the fear and say to yourself, I can do it

Hey lady, we all understand how you feel. The test is hard, but you have to motivate yourself somehow. Passing the GRE has absolutely nothing to do with GPA. That your argument is flawed. If it were valid, I would not have written the GRE twice, after all, my CGPA is above 4. I would have smashed it the first time. There are so many first class graduates that don't pass the GRE. On the other hand, there are so many low 2.1s and 2.2s that blast the GRE in one sitting. That said, some people are just great test takers. I do not even consider myself one of those. Most people here have been out of school for a long time. For example, I finished my Bachelors 10 years ago. So it's quite difficult getting oneself back to studying after leaving school for very many years.

I am taking my time to encourage you this morning because you are a lady like me and we really need to drive ourselves to attain greater heights in the society. We need to stop feeling inferior to men and giving lame excuses that some things are hard for ladies to achieve. I beg to differ - whatever height a man can attain on this planet earth, drhopeful can also attain....or at least try to. I mean, I may not always succeed but I will always try my best.

If you love yourself being an introvert then it's fine...I was once like you, but in my first year in Univ, i met these group of very interesting brilliant guys, we became friends and i suddenly discovered my hidden extroverted nature..i sometimes flash back to my gentle self in secondary school, i was just too gentle and lost out of all d fun that comes with high schooling but i am glad for the total switch of my nature..Though i still love my personal space and also love personal moments for deep reflections but I am now a person who people would run to when they are bored cos they appreciate my great sense of comicalness. When i left 9ja, i initially wanted to switch back to my introvert self, i struggled to hold back while studying my new environment and new colleagues, Immediately i became my normal extroverted self, i quickly turned to the most loved in the whole department.I curry favour from people easily cos of my nature...I have since discovered being an outright extrovert might make one lose out on good people and so many good things..... sorry to bore you wth my story

I assume you have Manhattan books already. Be precise with what you need help with so folks can be of help.

For Vocab building, the Magoosh flashcard app does some good job, though you should be on the lookout for any new word you come across from reading blogs, papers, news,etc. You should have a dictionary app on your phone to always check and recheck words. Example: I learnt "recondite" from Nairaland when someone used it to describe RC passages. Sartorial was used to describe Mark Zuckerbergs' jacket when he met Buhari

In my case, I usually use the app when I'm saturated reading other Textbooks and doing those "funny" RC passages; it was my subtle way of cooling off. A good strategy in learning Vocab is association: after seeing the word, what looks strange to you about it? The meaning of the word...which friend or person you know has that characteristics? Peevish and Petulant describes some of my friends that are easily rankled...That way I always remember the meaning of the words.

Another way is to group similar words together eg Besmirch,Polemic, Diatribe, Lampoon, Lambast, Objurgate all have similar meaning. Once you've learnt a word, any new word you come across that have similar meaning, associate them! I'm sure you'd find a couple of them.

Lastly, words need practice. Always think about the new words you've learnt, how you can incorporate them into your regular vocab or even use it in your Issue or argument essay! Keep thinking,using and rechecking the meaning of the words. You can also taunt your friends with them, I almost lost some when I bombarded them with grandiloquence! At least, it made the words stick!

Keep practicing, it might take some time but you'd progressively improve.

I had similar issue with you. I think I have more materials than you do!

However, given the nature of the exam you might need to combine more than one text in fine proportions. All the textbooks have their strong points but considering how confusing it might be in finding a balance, I'd suggest my pattern to you:

I used the Manhattan books more: for me, they handled almost 90% of my Quants. Started out with Official ETS then consolidated with Manhattan 1-6.

After reading a topic in this and you still find certain things recondite, you can quickly glance through other materials to see if they explain the concept well. In my case, I think I checked some Probability stuff in Princeton Review and Kaplan.

For Verbal: Other than the Official textbook( which you should definitely start with) I used Kaplan and Princeton for RCs. I didn't quite study text completions and SEs like that. I'm of the opinion that they are more vocabulary inclined. If you know the meaning of the words, you stand a better chance picking the right option.

So for Vocab building, I used the Magoosh flashcard app. It really helped.

Lastly: You determine which of the textbooks works best for you. Given our different predilections and style of learning, you might find a certain text well suited for you than another.

This for me is the most important after learning all the concepts: PRACTICE WITH SIMULATIONS!
Kaomafen, Crunchpep, McGill, Kaplan and then PowerPrep.

me too ws d best in my dept with a wow cgp,bt d truth is dat i read like mad while in school,d truth is dat most of my reading was useless cx if i read a day to exam i wl stil hav d same grade,self evaluation is good, i knw d best time my brain assimilate,early in d morning till 2:00,nd 6 to like 10:00 in evning,i read more dan i should bcx reading brings me pleasure,am a complete introvert.i hate mingling alot, you wl always see me reading evn immediately after exams.Ppl dat says they pass without much reading,thats a lie,thier some courses or topics that even if u are a genius,u jx need to study them

When pronouncing Takbeer al-Ihraam (the first Takbeer), when bowing in Rukoo’, when rising from Rukoo’ and when standing up after the first Tashahhud.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) started his prayer, he would say “Allaahu akbar” and raise his hands, when he bowed in rukoo’ he would raise his hands, when he said “Sami’a Allaahu liman hamidah [Allaah hears those who praise Him]” he would raise his hands, and when he stood up after two Rak’ahs he would raise his hands. (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 2/222; Abu Dawood, 1/197).

The meaning of “when he stood up after two Rak’ahs he would raise his hands” is, when he stood up after the first Tashahhud.

The hands may be raised to the level of the shoulders or the ears.


With that it should be noted that you dont raise your hand neither when going for sujood nor standing up from sujood, as this is a common mistake most people make.
