Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. -- Titus 3:5 |
Let Him Hear November 7, 2009 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." (Revelation 3:22) This is the final exhortation in Christ's letters to His seven representative churches. It is the seventh such exhortation, one addressed to each church, so must be unusually important. The emphasis, obviously, is not merely hearing with the physical ear, but hearing with an obedient heart. Such hearing is necessary first of all for saving faith, for "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Jesus said: "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24). In our day, however, probably more than in any previous age, there is a cacophony of voices of all kinds that are seeking listeners. In fact, Jesus Himself cautioned: "Take heed what ye hear" (Mark 4:24). There are multitudes of false teachers today--evolutionary humanists, religious liberals, "New Age" mystics, and others--all very articulate and often winsome, but speaking false doctrine. "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20). It is important not only to hear the right words, but also to hear the right way. "Take heed therefore how ye hear," also said Jesus (Luke 8:18). Even if we hear the pure Word of God, it will accomplish nothing of value in our lives unless we hear with due reverence. "To this man will I look, even to him that . . . trembleth at my word" (Isaiah 66:2). And we must also hear with faith. "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it" (Hebrews 4:2). He that hath an ear, therefore, let him hear with reverent faith the true Word of God. HMM |
This what Paige Patterson stated about the unique words of Jesus in John 14:6: "It comes down to a question of truth. Every false religious expression is a religion of darkness. That doesn't mean there are no good things in that faith. But if Jesus is to be taken seriously when He says, 'No one comes to the Father but through Me', every other proposal is one of darkness." I cannot say it any better than this. |
Abuzola:Jesus also said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." -- John 14:6 Do you believe this? If you do then you are a believer. Jesus is the One who said He is the only way to the Father and for any religious person to say that there are other ways to find peace with God is to bear false testimony. In one sweeping statement, Jesus discards all other religions as a means of finding forgiveness of sins. This agrees with other Scriptures. "Neither is their salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" -- Acts 4;12, and "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" -- 1 Timothy 2:5 |
Mister Osi:Very well said. I only hope all the religious people would realise the highlighted words above. |

For the time will come when they wil not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away theirr ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. -- 2 Timothy 4:3-4 |
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. -- 2 Timothy 4:2 |
Marlbron:Many skeptics have miscontrued what Jesus said in Matt. 16:28 to mean that He was talking of his second coming but my point is that what He predicted was the demonstration of His second coming as was revealed in the transfiguration about 8 days after, and that Peter, James and John were the ones He was referring to as being eyewitnessess to this event. |
When He Comes November 6, 2009 "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) When He comes our glorious King, All His ransomed home to bring, Then anew this song we'll sing; Hallelujah, what a Saviour! The sacrificed, risen, and exalted Christ will one day return in glorious victory to the earth. The King of creation will restore His creation to its original created intent, and reign over it in majesty: "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever" (Revelation 11:15). Furthermore, as we see in the text above, we shall be with Him, whether alive or dead, when He returns and reigns--a cause of much rejoicing and singing throughout eternity. "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy . . . for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth" (Revelation 5:9-10). Through His mighty work of redemption, we have been ransomed out of slavery to sin. Our sins have been washed away, we have been clothed in His righteousness, and made fit to live forever with Him as His bride. "Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready" (Revelation 19:6-7). Hallelujah, what a Saviour! JDM |
Marlbron:"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom". -- Matthew 16:28 This literally happened in the verses below. About 8 days that Jesus prophesied his transfiguration. It happened in the presence of three disciples. That they would see Him as He would be in the Kingdom of God. "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light." -- Matthew 17:1-2 Read what Apostle Peter had to say afterwards about this experience on the mount of transfiguration. "For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount." -- 2 Peter 1:16-18 Apostle Peter was here declaring that he and other two disciples heard God's voice and saw the glory of God and the appearance of Moses and Elijah, that is, the transfiguration that Jesus had earlier predicted would happen, which was an actual demonstration of Christ coming in His glory to earth to set up His Kingdom. (see 16:27-28; 17:1-8; 24:29-31; 25:31-46; Rev.19:11-21). |
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. -- 2 Timothy 3:16-17 On behalf of OLAADEGBU |

On behalf of OLAADEGBU It is Finished! November 5, 2009 "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:14-15) Lifted up was He to die, "It is finished" was His cry; Now in heav'n exalted high: Hallelujah, what a Saviour! The people of Israel many times rejected God's plan and ways. Once their complaining brought deadly serpents into the camp as a judgment of God (Numbers 21:5-7). In response to Moses' intercessory prayer, God said: "Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and . . . every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live" (v. .This episode provides a clear illustration of our sinfulness and God's remedy. As in our text, those who look upon the cross of Christ with the eyes of faith, believing that His death provides a glorious remedy for our sin-wracked souls, will not only "live," but will have "eternal life." While on that "pole," Almighty God died as "the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" (1 John 2:2). This infinitely difficult work had been initiated at the time when sin first entered into and thereby spoiled creation (Genesis 3). And as He completed His sacrifice, He cried out "with a loud voice" (Luke 23:46) the awesome victory cry: "It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost" (John 19:30). But death does not end the story, for the grave could not hold the Creator of life. He rose in victory over death and the grave, thereby conquering sin, its power and penalty forever, for "when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Hebrews 1:3). Hallelujah, what a Saviour! JDM |

Do the First Part First My children, I love you with an everlasting love. I care for you, and My Spirit is your assurance that My power will rest in and with you. Many of you truly have a zeal to do My will. I have noted it, and I am pleased that you want to know Me in a deeper way. But you have found that you occasionally encounter a stumbling block in your prayer requests, and don't understand why your petitions seem to go unanswered. You have forgotten that I, the Lord your God, will never violate My Holy Word, nor its precepts and principles. For in these, you will have the true authority to do exploits in the spirit realm. I will never empower or give approval to a child of disobedience. So when you are tempted, you claim the promise in My Word to 'resist the devil and he will flee.' But when you succumb to the temptation anyway, you grieve in agony and shed a multitude of tears because of your failure amidst the test. In that case, you have entered the battle without your armor. Prior to the trial, you forgot that the first part of the promise says: "Submit yourselves therefore to God." That, My be loved, is the first part. It is only after doing the first part that you can claim and appropriate the second part: ", resist the devil and he will flee from you." When you desire something or want a situation to turn around, you claim the promise in My Word to ", ask what you will and it shall be done unto you." Yet, when your desire falls short, you withdraw in disappointment, or dismiss it altogether that it must have not been My will to make it happen. My dear child, I say unto you, do the first part: "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, " The key is your abiding in Me. As you walk with Me, I will share deep and rich secrets that the world cannot receive. You cannot walk contrary to My Holy Word and yet expect the same anointing and blessing to abide with you. But if you yield unto Me, and die to that rebellious self-serving tendency of the flesh, you will open the door to a new dimension of faith that I, the Lord your God, will have manifest in your life. Remember that I love you. And whosoever I love, I correct and chasten. If you allow my correction to take hold, then afterwards it shall yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness in your life. -- grace5 |

Quote by: viaro It will be interesting knowing what our Lord Jesus Christ has to say about what Moses wrote or said. Jesus consistently treated the miracle accounts of the OT as straightforward, truthful, historical accounts such as the creation of Adam, Noah and the Flood, Lot and his wife in Sodom, Moses and the manna, and Jonah in the fish. He continually affirmed the authority of Scripture over men's ideas and traditions (Matthew 15:1-9). In Mark 10:6 we have the clearest (amongst others) affirmation showing that Jesus was a young earth creationist. He teaches that Adam and Eve were made at the "beginning of creation," not billions of years after the beginning, as would be the case if the universe were really billions of years old. So, if Jesus was a young earth creationist, then how can His faithful followers have any other view?Quote from: modupe01 on Yesterday at 12:50:09 PMLol, modupe01. . maybe He did not leave it open to human interpretation; but I would rather that He Himself would have us both interpret and understand what He meant by what He gave us. If that were not so, then other scribes and prophets would not have tried to explain anything from the law to others in order to make them understand anything - Ezra and Nehemiah come to mind as an example: ![]() Nehemiah 8:8 -If we are prepared to let the words of the language speak to us in accord with the context and normal definitions, without being influenced by outside ideas, then the word for "day" found in Genesis 1 which is qualified by a number, the phrase "evening and morning" and for Day 1 the words "light and darkness" which obviously means an ordinary day (approximately 24 hrs). During Martin Luther's era, some of church fathers were saying that God created everything in only one day or an instant, which is the other extreme of what some people are saying today. This is what he said in response to them: "When Moses writes that God created Heaven and Earth and whatever is in them in six days, then let this period continue to have been done in six days, and do not venture to devise any comment according to which six days were one day. But, if you cannot understand how this could have been done in six days, then grant the Holy Spirit the honour of being more learned than you are. For you are to deal with Scripture in such a way that you bear in mind that God Himself says what is written. But since God is speaking, it is not fitting for you wantonly to turn His Word in the direction you wish to go. " This I believe raps up what is going on today on the other extreme of billions of years. Now, back to your inquiry proper:Genesis 1:2 reads "And the earth was without form, and void"QuoteYes, I can see that; and I don't think that contradicts with what I hinted at earlier. This was what I stated: This reads that the earth was and not became as the Gappists translate it to mean. At stake is the translation of the Hebrew word hayetah, which is a form of Hebrew verb, hayah, meaning "to be." The meaning of a word is controlled by its context, and verse 2 is sequential to verse 1. Therefore "was" is the most natural and appropriate translation for hayetah. It is rendered this way in most English versions as well as the Septuagint. In Genesis 1:2 hayetah is not followed by the proposition le, which would have removed any ambiguity in the Hebrew and required the translation "became." Therefore, the correct reading is: "And the earth was formless and void . . ." Let us consider Exodus 31:12 and see what God commanded Moses to say to the children of Israel: "Six days may work be done, but on the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Therefore the sons of Israel shall keep the Sabbath throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant. It is a sign between me and the sons of Israel forever. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed" -- Exodus 15-17 Then God gave Moses two tablets of stone upon which were written the commandments of God, written by the finger of God (Exodus 31:18). If we are observant enough we would realise that the seven-day week that we use today has no basis outside of Scripture. If you know of any nation that uses more or less than the seven day week can you please bring it to my attention? In this OT passage, God commands His people, Israel, to work for six days and rest for one, thus giving us a reason why He deliberately took as long as six days to create everything. He set an example for man. This is why our week is patterned after this principle. And you were right by saying that it was a command to the Israelites and a principle to us today. Now if you are to be consistent and project your interpretation of billion of years by saying that God created everything in six thousand/million/billion years, followed by a rest of one thousand or million or billion years, then we would have an interesting week indeed. (e) the Bible uses both these words and several others (eg., create, make, form, renew) to show that they are not referring to the same things in the same periods; these words are also different in the Hebrew language. It is generally acknowledged that the Hebrew word as you said, bara, used with "God" as its subject, which means to create like in the production of things which did not exist before. However, according to Exodus 20:11, God "made" (asah) the heavens and the earth and everything in them in six days. If God made everything in six days, then there is clearly no room for a gap. I know that you allege that asah does not mean to "create," but "to form" or even "re-form" and that you believe that it refers to reforming a ruined world. But is there such a difference between bara and asah in biblical usage? I don't think so. It (asah) can also mean "to create," which is the same as bara. For example, Nehemiah 9:6 states that God made (asah) "heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them." This reference is obviously to the original ex nihilo (out of nothing) creation, but the word asah is used. Do you want to tell me that Nehemiah 9:6 refers to the supposed reconstruction? if you do then you will have to include the geological strata in the reconstruction which will invariably deprive the whole theory of any power to explain away the fossil record. The fact is that the words bara and asah are often used interchangeably in the OT and in some other places they are used in synonymous parallelism (Gen. 1:26-27; 2:4; Exodus 34:10; Isaiah 41:20; 43:7). Applying this conclusion to Exodus 20:11; 31:17; and Nehemiah 9:6 we see that Scripture teaches that God created the universe (everything) in six days, as outlined in Genesis 1. What about Exodus 20:11?The most straightforward interpretation of Genesis 1:1-2 sees verse 1 as a subject-and-verb clause, with verse 2 containing three circumstantial clauses, that is, 3 statements that further describe the circumstances introduced by the principal clause in verse 1. The grammatical connection between verses 1 and 2 rules out a time gap between the events in verse 1 and the events in verse 2. Verse 2 is in fact a description of the state of the originally created earth: "And the earth was without form and void" (Genesis 1:2). |
meine:"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, perished." -- 2 Peter 3:3-6 These verses shows how fresher the word of God is than tomorrow's newspaper! See how it fulfills how peeps on this thread fit in to this prophecy. It also shows a common false assumption that many people make when they assume the earth today is the same as it has always been. Today's earth is 70% under water. There are scriptural and scientific indications that the pre-flood world had greater air pressure, higher % of O2 and CO2, much more land above see level, less water on the earth's surface and a canopy of water to filter out the harmful effects of the sun. Men will scoff and say that there was no such thing as the flood of Noah and that these signs have always been around. Their motivation for hating the truth will be their love of lust (2 Peter 2:1-7). The Scriptures tell us that they make one big mistake. Their understanding of God is erroneous. They think in their ignorance that God's continued silence means that He doesn't see their sins. In truth, He is merely holding back His wrath, waiting for them to repent and escape the damnation of hell. Jesus warned that the sign to look for was the repossession of Jerusalem by the Jews. That happened in 1967, after 2,000 years, bringing into culmination all the signs of the times. Are you ready for His coming? |

On behalf of OLAADEGBU The Spotless Lamb of God November 4, 2009 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, . . . But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." (1 Peter 1:18-19) Guilty, vile and helpless we, Spotless Lamb of God was He; Full atonement, can it be? Hallelujah, what a Saviour! Before God each individual stands as an absolutely guilty sinner. "There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). Being more "good" than "bad" doesn't help, "for whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). "We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags |literally 'used menstrual cloths'|" (Isaiah 64:6). We are altogether vile and worthless. Furthermore, we are powerless to change our situation. Our sins demand the death penalty, "and without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22). Either the guilty party must die to pay sin's penalty, or a guiltless party must substitute and pay the penalty instead. And so, "when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. . . . God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:6- .This transaction removes our sin from us. We now stand before a Holy God just as if we had never sinned, and just as if we had always done right, "justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24). "And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement" (Romans 5:11). Hallelujah, what a Saviour! JDM |
viaro:I guess that you are still in the realm of belief rather than knowledge (my guess is as good as yours). I accept the fact that you believe that God wrote the decalogue with His own finger, according to Scriptures. Let's see what He wrote in Exodus 20:11 and see how we can understand what He meant:"For in six days the LORD made the heavens and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it." Can you now see the Scripture that was inscribed by God Almighty Himself? He did not leave it open to human interpretation, no?. |
