Politics / Maersk $600m Investment: People Are Unnecessarily Giddy Over Nothing -Onanuga by mohbadliveson: 7:38am On May 01
Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, says no agreement or deal was signed between the Nigerian government and the shipping giant, Maersk.

Speaking with TheCable on Tuesday, Onanuga said there was only talk “of possible investment in Nigeria” by Maersk.

After President Tinubu’s discussion with Robert Maersk Uggla on April 28, the presidency released a statement announcing that the shipping company had pledged to inject $600 million into the Nigerian seaport industry.

“Danish shipping company, A.P Moller-Maersk plans $600m investment in Nigeria. Danish shipping and logistics company A.P Moller-Maersk has disclosed a planned investment of $600 million in Nigeria to accommodate more container shipping services in Nigerian ports,” Onanuga wrote on social media.

Although TheCable observed that the presidential aide’s social media post has been deleted, Maersk officials have confirmed that no such agreement is in place and no deals have been signed.

When contacted, Onanuga confirmed that no agreement on investment had been reached by the two parties.

“I think the statement issued by Maersk did not talk about a deal. There was no deal according to that statement that I read. However, there was talk of investment,” the special adviser said.

“No document or agreement was signed, so there was no deal. But there was talk of a possible investment in the country.

“So, go and read the statement again. They never said any deal was signed between the Nigerian government and the Dutch company. There was nothing like that.”

Citing Maersk’s statement, Onanuga said the company was unable to comment on investment talks, stressing that it did not expressly deny that there was an investment talk.

He said people are “unnecessarily giddy over nothing”.

Politics / Why Can't Reno Omokri Reply Peter Obi On The Issue Of Schools Built ? by mohbadliveson: 1:24pm On Apr 26
A former presidential aide and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, had challenged Peter Obi former Anambra state governor and his followers to present a single school he built in his eight years as governor.

Obi explained that he did not construct new schools as Anambra State governor because the state was ranked 26th in the nation when he arrived, with shuttered schools and a broken educational system, saying that by the time he departed, Anambra had risen to the top.

Obi said, “I improved the quality, physical and mental well-being of the people, schools, had the basic things they needed and the people shone like stars and that was my manifesto.

“Building new schools when the old ones are moribund is just like building coastal lines when internal roads are impassable.”

Why has Reno not reply or fault his claim?

Politics / Governor Ododo Committed Criminal Offence By Aiding Yahaya Bello’s Escape -Sagay by mohbadliveson: 6:44am On Apr 24
Itse Sagay, former chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), says Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, committed a criminal offence by shielding Yahaya Bello, his predecessor, from arrest.

Last week, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) restricted movement in and around Bello’s house on Benghazi street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.

Hours later, Ododo arrived at Bello’s residence and was reportedly seen leaving with his predecessor.

Speaking with TheCable, Sagay said Ododo abused the immunity privilege he enjoys by whisking Bello away and preventing his arrest by anti-graft officials.

“That was a clear abuse of immunity. The immunity provision is meant for him alone. He has no right to extend it to other people. What he did by aiding Yahaya Bello’s escape was illegal and unconstitutional,” Sagay said.

“It is good the EFCC officials were restrained because they would have been justified in physically engaging the governor’s security team in order to seize Yahaya Bello from them.

“What the governor did was illegal. He was hiding a fugitive and that is a criminal offence. He is making himself an accessory after the fact.”

Sagay also advised Bello to honourably submit himself to the EFCC in order to avoid being humiliated. He said no matter how Bello tries to hide, the anti-graft agency will eventually smoke him out.

“Whether his hands are clean or not, he should come out and report to EFCC. If he doesn’t, in the end they will still get to him,” he added.

“If he reports himself voluntarily, he will be treated with respect. They will interview him and if they see nothing serious enough to detain him, they will release him.

“If they have anything on him, they will give him administrative bail and he will go home to prepare for his defence. So, what he is doing now by hiding is that he is bringing down his own image and bringing himself down in public.

“He is creating a situation in which he may be humiliated unnecessarily. At the end of the day, they will still get him. So, I will advise him to surrender himself in a responsible manner so that his dignity could be kept intact.”

The EFCC is accusing Bello of financial misappropriation and corruption to the tune of N80.2 billion.

Politics / Eid-El-Fitr: Katsina Adds Friday As Public Holiday by mohbadliveson: 7:20pm On Apr 09
The Katsina State Government has announced that Friday, April 12, 2024, will be a non-working day in the state so that workers can celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan fasting.

This was made known in a statement signed by the state governor, Dikko Radda, and made available to journalists by the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Zango, on Tuesday.

The governor stated that the additional holiday was to allow workers in the state to fully partake in the Sallah celebrations with their loved ones.

This is coming on the heels of the Federal Government’s extension of the Eid-el-Fitr public holidays to Thursday, April 11.

The statement titled, ‘Ed-Fitr: Gov Dikko Radda declares Friday, 12th April, 2024, work-free day’, read, “His Excellency the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, has declared Friday, April 12, 2024, a work-free day.

When sane Nigerians said the float should be conditional, they were insulted and called haters. Now that the government is doing what the 'haters' said, they are still being insulted.

Who are the real enemies? Those who support and justify rudderless policies or those who 'wail' for the right things to be done?

Politics / Officials Culpable For Nasarawa University Stampede Should Be Punished - NANS by mohbadliveson: 5:36pm On Mar 25
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says the Nasarawa state government must ensure that officials found culpable for the stampede at the state’s university receive the appropriate punishment.

On March 22, three students of Nasarawa State University in Keffi (NSUK) were killed in a stampede that occurred during the distribution of rice donated by the state government.

Several others sustained injuries during the melee.

Akinteye Babatunde, senate president of NANS, said the deaths could have been avoided if those in charge of palliatives distribution had done their jobs properly.

Speaking on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, Babatunde said having recorded successes during the distribution of rice in other tertiary institutions in the state, those in charge let down their guards by not providing adequate security for the distribution at NSUK.

“As an association, we are demanding that the government should investigate the incident. We are also asking the government to hold accountable those who failed to do their job,” he said.

“In a situation like this, if people are not punished, people will be negligent in carrying out their duties".

"We have also requested that the hospital bills of those who are injured should be taken care of by the state government and sincerely, since this incident happened, the government has been cooperating.

“They took responsibility for what happened, they went to the hospital and promised to meet with the parents of those who lost their lives.

“The governor has said there will be an investigation and anyone found wanting will lose his or her job. Students have died. Those who died belong to a family.

“If we just let this incident go like that, it will look as if we don’t have respect for human lives. So, we want them to investigate the incident promptly and ensure that it’s not taking too long. They should also give us a report of the investigation.”

Babatunde said the venue should have been secured.

“When you want to get palliatives, even before the commencement of the distribution, you are to secure the venue very well because aside students, if staff have access to the palliatives, they will want to take advantage of it,” he added.

“Failure to properly secure the venue led to the unfortunate incident.”
