The document had no stamp or signature from First Bank officials.
Instead, it asked me to sign and return.
This was sent to me directly by my account officer, which makes me very concerned. It should have 2 signatures and FIRS postage stamp on it. I don't think anyone has ever been required to sign the certificate |

femiaction: Hello Fam,
I need your advice on something. I purchased a Treasury Bill through First Bank on September 3, 2025, and requested a certificate of investment as proof. Instead, what I received was a document titled “Nigerian Treasury Bills Proof of Investment.”
The issue is that this document came without any signature or authentication from First Bank officials, which seems unusual. Has anyone here experienced this before? Shouldn’t a proper Treasury Bill certificate or contract note be signed and authorized by the bank? This letter was stated below

4gunners: This is my prepared transcript. I need your observations and suggestions..
V.O - Where are you going? Me – I’m going to US for my Masters in Civil Engineering with concentration in Structural Engineering at University of South Florida V.O - Why are you going for MSc in Civil Engineering? Me – I really want to become an expert in structural engineering. Having studied Civil engineering in my undergraduate studies, we were exposed just to all the branches of civil engineering but not indepth. Msc in civil engineering will give me advance knowledge in my area specialization which is structural engineering. V.O – Why masters in U.S and not in Nigeria? Me – Masters in U.S will not only avail me the opportunity to have sound mix of practical and theoretical knowledge but will also enable me to have international exposure which will give me a competitive edge towards working with multinational oil companies like shell, Exxonmobile V.O – How many schools did you apply to and how many admit? Me – 4. I got admit in Michigan Tech Houghton, University of Arkansas - Fayetteville, USF - Tampa and UNH- West Haven Connecticut. But reject from UW seattle and WSU - pullman V.O - How did you get to know about these schools? Me – I made use of online portal like thegradcafe, msinus.com, and google to look at schools that matched my profile. I looked at the research interest of the faculty members in my program at the schools and use that to streamline the schools I applied to. V.O – Why USF? Me – I chose USF over others because of three major reasons: 1. The weather in Tampa FL is tropical which would be very easy for me to adjust to 2. I’ve been interacting with Prof. Qing who is keen on accepting me to the Green lab where I will researching on greener alternatives to cement- a very important material in the construction industry. This will be a sort of continuation of my undergraduate project, which makes the decision to choose USF easier for me 3. My dept has corrosion laboratory which is one of the very few in US, which will help to determine the durability of greener cement I’ll be working on. V.O – What are your study plans Me – I have to complete a total minimum of 30 credit hours which consist of 24 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours of thesis. I’ll be taken courses like advanced concrete design, prestressed concrete, advanced structural mechanics, structural dynamics, advanced finite element V.O – What year did you graduate and what have you been doing since then? Me – I graduated in Septemeber, 2017. I did my National youth service between November 2017 and Novemebr 2019. I started working in Granny ventures Limited as Facilitity Engineer from January 20019 till this moment. V.O – Who will be sponsoring your trip? Me - My uncle V.O – What does he do? Me – He is a senior officer in judiciary V.O – Why does he want to sponsor you Me – He has always been impressed with my academic performance right from my secondary school days and promised to finance my graduate studies if I could do well in my undergraduate studies, which I did. V.O – What will this degree do for you. Me –Upon graduation and completion of my Masters program, I will be highly proficient and skilled in the advanced analysis and design of structures under both conventional and unconventional load which will give me leverage in the oil and gas sector as oil companies like shell and Exxon mobil are continually seeking structural engineering for the design and maintenance of their platforms. On the longer term, I will like to start my own consulting firm, which will focus on providing engineering consulting services in the oil and gas industry. V.O – I’ll be approving you visa Me – Thanks.

Goldenboy007: The last time I was in Nigeria was 2013.. I always planned to go home every year but as many of you know .. Yankee work and bills, always super busy. However this time around I decided to surprise everybody.
I had to first figure out how the dual passport situation. When exiting US - checked in with the Airline with Nigerian Passport, US TSA security check only needed boarding pass and valid ID. Flying Lufthansa, trip from US to Frankfurt was ok, although it seems the seats got smaller but the services were ok. The problem started from Frankfurt to Nigeria. Lufthansa ensured they gave Nigerians the worst services they can come up with. The boarding gate was in the middle of nowhere, the gate lounge was not opened so we were standing at their corridor, finally when their staff came - no apology .she opened and we all trooped in like Sheep. I never felt so degraded - worst customer service I've seen at Airports. The flight time changed without warning and no apology, sometimes they made announcement in German without translation. They asked us to check-in the hand luggage cos they claimed there was no space in the plane. Finally we got a rowdy boarding - survival of the fittest. In my history of flying I have never seen such hostile hostesses, the aircraft bathroom was not working properly and they would leave your food trays with you untill you beg them to remove it. When choosing airlines ..I always wanted to avoid the flying Turkey or those Airlines with terrible customer service - I expected more from Lufthansa - however some said they have excellent service , they just don't think Nigerians deserve it.
After 21 hours journey I finally saw Lagos Airspace - Looked like it was enveloped in smoke and dust - every other Airspace I saw you could see the houses clearly - Lagos had this fog cover that makes it look like a 2nd cloud. The next thing was the German announcement - a strange sound from the bottom of the plane and the English translation said Landing was aborted. Oh God of Moses - I didn't tell anyone I was coming home o - Jesus .. save your child .. Landing aborted bawo? After a period that felt like several hours of prayers and fasting - we landed.. and behold the glorious MMIA that looks a building from a CIA movie - when they want to go kidnap a fugitive from a remote jungle in deep Africa. Our airport is the first impression - it looked so dilapidated with missing windows and broken down trucks. Yep ! This is home ! I guess I was expecting more since 2013, however this is Nigeria. I started missing O'Hare immediately.
To be continued ..... Next time you can fly through London but make sure your connecting flight is BA.. |

Me- Good morning VO- pass me your I 20 and passport VO- where are you going to? Me- North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina for my masters in( VO cuts in) VO- what are you going for? Me- My Masters Degree in History VO- how did you get this assistantship? Me- The department’s Chair was impressed with my GRE, my transcript, statement of purpose and essay. VO- so why did you change course and school ? Me- sorry? I didn’t get that. VO- the last time you were here you were wanted to go to Arcadia so why change to NCCU? Me- Arcadia gave me partial scholarship while NCCU gave me the full ride and in NCCU, I get to minor in courses related to Peace and Conflict Resolution. VO- so who would pay for other expenses Me- I have family funds VO-which family? Me- My Uncle VO- what does he do? Me - he works with the Kwara state government, at the Niger River Basin. VO- where does he live? Me- Kwara state She looks at the I 20 for a while then drops it She asked for bank statement which I gave to her She stared at it for a while , typed somethings ... In my mind I was just praying , then she asked VO- why is your Uncle paying Me- my parents sent his to school so this is more like a more thank you and he has the money VO- how many siblings do you have ? Me- 5 VO- which Uncle would be paying for them? Me- I am the last child VO - what’s the name of your Uncle Me- I said his name Then she picked up the I 20 again .... looked at it again and asked VO- are you married? Me- NO I’m not VO- do you have children? Me - No I don’t Then she finally said I’m sorry you are not found eligible at this time. Did I do anything wrong ... please help me out here because I’m still dumbfounded. Cc LagosismyHome theamerican TWoods Imperiouxx Ezeigbo1ofimo Sorelee I think you gave the VO the opportunity to deny you on so many grounds. Firstly, you are a student and academic reasons should always supersede funding advantages (scholarships, tuition etc). Secondly, saying family funds is indirect. You can tell the VO was curious about what you meant. Also, the reason that your uncle will pay for your tuition just because your parents assisted him at some points in his life is not a good reason. That was why she asked which uncle will be responsible for your other siblings, but you responded that you are the last child. You could have said something like they are working or got their lives together etc.. Read responses from other students on here and learn from their responses to some of the questions. I believe that should help you. Also, find a concrete reason for changing the school. Otherwise, you are just dashing the embassy money. Good Luck |

Op is just trying to pass a message. Moreover, you too can contribute your quota instead of picking out argumentative points. It is not about picking an argument. "In Chicago for example - You don't want to stay in South Side of Chicago - that's where all the crimes are." I only want to correct that mindset. Chicago has Southside, Northside, Westside, Southwest, northwest, southeast etc.. All the points mentioned by the OP are spot on. |

Goldenboy007: So for Apartments -
Accommodation- For new immigrants - I always advise new immigrants not to overstay at their hosts - America is different from Nigeria, people live on strict budget. If you are lucky to have been accommodated by friends or family, start planning how you will move in the first 6 weeks - Even if the host is your sibling, what of their spouse, will they be comfortable with you around ? Again be very helpful when you are living in others houses - do the dishes and buy little groceries. In fact you can offer a little money as part of the rent. Let them feel you are a blessing coming to live with them. Cost of accommodation depends on location. Families choose areas with good school district and safety or security. Some areas can be very cheap but are they safe ? Does it have good schools for your kids? Is it far from where jobs are ? Access to fast public transits? Train station? Buses? Nearness to shopping malls , nearness to your place of work? In Chicago for example - You don't want to stay in South Side of Chicago - that's where all the crimes are. The apartments there are very cheap - We have different kind of apartments- Studio, 1 bedroom , 2 bedrooms, etc, town house, Condo, Single family home etc. Studio is what we call Self Contain in Nigeria - A room with bathroom. Kitchen and all are inside the single room. Also note we call restroom - "Bathroom", regardless if it has toilet and bath. ( don't ask anybody for Toilet). I also heard some side of Newark in New Jersey is a no go area. In Chicago - There are many Nigerians and immigrants in the Chicago North side. You will want to get an apartment where you can be close to people of your kind so that you can get information quickly. Indians do that, don't go and isolate yourself in the middle of nowhere - for security reasons - like it or hate it - there is still traces of racism in US, (it has become more prominent especially with this new govt) you don't want to end up in a strange community. For cheap accommodation, I try to balance the values you will get from the accommodation and the cost - Remember all I said earlier - For a hustling single immigrant or family go to Craigslit - There are various accommodation options - shared apartments - people looking for roommates, just be careful you do not fall into scams. Also church or mosque communities are important - They help out with information for accommodation. Information is key in the US, do not isolate yourself. Craigslist has different cheap options - from Studio to a single family home. Some landlords or agents will not rent out to people without jobs or bad credit history or score. Make sure you read the conditions for letting. Tips Look for Apartments that has free utilities or the cost added into the rent - Water, Trash, cooking gas and heating , - although you will always pay for electricity. They will probably ask you for 1 month deposit but if you good credit score- You may not be asked for security deposit. Just go to Craigslist, click your state, then go to "housing", then you click either apt/housing or rooms/shared or sublets/temporary. Please be careful of scams, see house and agent office before giving out money o...and stay off dangerous areas. Ask me questions. Not all of south side Chicago is bad.. Please speak for where you know. I have always lived on the south side and can never imagine myself living upnorth. Most of the shootings in Chicago are gang related and most times innocent victims are just in arms way. |

ifegy: Actually, it's pretty bad here. A few streets here and there are not flooded but you're pretty much stuck in 'dry islands' and you can't go far because of the pervasive floods. The airport may open but remember water levels still have to go down considerably before you can get around freely; power may still be out in some areas, etc. Rain should stop Friday, but there's more rain forecast next week. It's a rapidly changing situation (another dam just started over spilling this morning, and it's not clear where that water is going to go). All to say, keep monitoring, and if at all possible consider getting a plan B, like another close by location; just in case. Hopefully it gets better soonest. talktrue1: I know stanbic allows you to bid in the primary market with their own stop rate, but first bank says I can only go for the secondary market once I have less than N50m
Are there some firstbank branches that allows to submit your bid for primary market and go wt their rate when you have less than N50m? Yes but you have to submit the application before the bid day. I submitted my application 2 weeks ago and was debited but transaction was completed yesterday. I received my interest today. |

tobe4real: ok thanks, someone on here said 1m is the maximum so i was wondering...please can someone on here show us how they calculate this things ?when I fixed 8.2m for 60 days and they told me 7.00% what I calculated was different from what i was given You can go through previous posts. The calculation has been posted several times, but keep in mind. For TB, the longer the days the more money you make. |

tobe4real: 10% The minimum is 100k.. I will advise you split the fund for the TB and do different tenors because the amount you have right now is a lot. I am in the same dilemma right now. I split the fund and did different days though it primary market. I got the notification that one was successful and am still waiting on my relationship manager about the other one. This was done in First Bank. |
