I said it would a rough topsy turvy season. Some got carried away with the millions spent, thinking it was just a matter of smashing transfer records and selling all the so-called crap English players.

Today we saw the incredibly weak spine of this team exposed by Leicester of all teams (Man City and co are hardly going to be quaking). Even at 3-1 you never felt Leicester were out of the game. Once they got the penalty, our terribly weak spine (both mentally and in the central midfield and defense) was on full display and Leicester had all the momentum regardless of our expensively acquired superstars.

The bad news is that there will be more games like this during the season, where even when we are well ahead, we'll never truly look comfortable. The good news is that unlike under Moyes, we are creating chances, scoring goals and at least trying to fashion some type of playing philosophy from which the dividends should soon yield.

Exactly how I see us starting the game, only with Rafael on the right and Di Maria on the left. LVG is committed to 3-5-2 until it thoroughly fails.

While all of the talk about Madrid's imbalanced starting eleven, poor performance of attacking players might be accurate. I would rather say that this Athletico side is much better than they are given credit for. Did they not best the expensively assembled squads of Barca and Madrid to the La Liga last season. Who says Madrid would still not have lost even if Alonso and Di Maria were still around. After all were Real themselves not just a couple of minutes from losing in the UCL final.

Simeone has built a solid system at Athletico, it isn't just today they have been beating side with hundreds of millions of attacking talent in the starting line-up.

Don't just look at the sweet news. Profits have fallen by 80+% and net income is also seriously down. Other less than savoury details will leak after private talks with investors. Woodward is more like Loki than Odin.
