teeo: Can't we just sign 7 players at once. Moyes said he was going to overhaul the whole team last season and everyone was shouting. This team needs a complete overhaul, every position is lacking. Except the Goalkeeper.D squad isn't lacking, it is imbalanced. Rojo's signing improves the situation defensively, but considering the massive amount of experience and quality we lost in one window, we still need one more reliable central defender, particularly when we are going to be playing 3 center backs week to week. Midfield is imbalanced. A decent number of wingers and way too many attacking midfielders, but not enough central midfielders or proper assortment. The real proper central midfielders have serious questionmarks (Carrick 34 y/o, Fletcher has lost a significant bit of his edge, Cleverley has massive improving to do), Herrera is the only one that doesn't have any questionmarks. Imagine if you could swap one of Fellaini, Mata, Kagawa for a Guarin, Verrati, Song, Strootman or Paulinho. That already provides greater balance. |
chrisley024: His signing doesn't displace other needed signings.Old Trafford is not The Royal Mint. |
chrisley024: @coogar @montelikWhat do need wingers for if we plan on playing a base 3-5-2? Why invest that much in position that isn't even going to be used week-in and out. I don't care if Valencia, Young and co irritate the life out of some fans. I would sooner see them play intermittently while securing the spine of the side, than try to gimmick our way through the season with an over-priced Di Maria. Also don't believe for a second we can pay £45m for Di Maria and still spend another £60m bringing in quality for the other positions. Not going to happen unless we blow the budget the next 4 transfer window by the end of the month. |
Strengthen the striking positions if you want, but don't spend all the money meant for other positions on one that is already stocked. This isn't monopoly money, it is coming from somewhere and will be accounted for. We keep spending in unneeded areas, we won't have anything significant left for the important areas. |
chrisley024: Not a waste. It means he can easily switch between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3.Waste, waste, waste. We already have wingers at the club, experienced ones for that matter. What we don't have are enough central defenders, both numbers wise and experience wise and a proper assortment of central midfielders. Yet we will blow £50m on winger who was similar erractic form issues as Nani. £50m that would get a Hummels, Benatia, Subotic e.t.c and still have change for a decent central midfielder like Song or Clasie. If na by force to sign a winger, get a Memphis Depay rather than over pay for Di Maria who doesn't fit the system, but whose transfer fee will necessitate finding a way of shoehorning him into the lineup. (e.g Berba in 08-09) |
If we sign Di Maria for anywhere close to the figures being bandied around, I will lose what little confidence I have in Woodward and serious confidence in LVG. We spent £27m on an ill suited Fellaini, then £37m on an unneeded Mata, Now we want to spend £45+m on a winger when we plan on playing with wingbacks and no wingers, even though we have the likes of Valencia, Young, Zaha still in the squad. This would be basically flushing £100m+ down the toilet, while ignore the need to strengthen the spine of the side, central defense and central midfield. |
Let's get United's excuses in now: it's very early in the season; one match means almost nothing; the men on the pitch are still getting used to a new tactical system; and there are still a couple of weeks left of the transfer season to get the right players in.https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/reda-maher/lack-leadership-personnel-problematic-manchester-united-201157547.html Damn, this guys must be Coogar's twin. |
Chei, how the mighty have fallen. The inmates are truly running the asylum. Ever since Baba retired, this thread has turned to some thing else. I really hope LVG can quickly return some other to United and hopefully this thread. |
codedguy1: My friend stop talking as if your brain has been quarantined from suspicion of Ebola.Elampiro, if u disregard everything else said in this post, don't disregard the boldened. Your over use of generalization, is not helpful. Mention names, if their opinions gets under your skin. There is no firmly established group think on this thread. Even in agreement, various individuals still have differences. STOP THE NEEDLESS GENERALIZATIONS. |
But really we are going concede plenty this season. We sold and released decades worth of experience (Rio, Vida & Evra) and brought in a teenager, while simultaneously blooding other youngsters (Blackett, Reece, Keane) and there isn't a single natural defensive leader in the squad. That defence will disappoint even if we bring Blind, Hummels & Benatia as they will need time to gel and understand each other. |
afrodoc: The boy is still young he will improve, what about our no 10 that cost so much money to buy......Senor Mata. He was swallowed up by the hole he was meant to occupy LOLI am not calling for him to be loaned out or criticizing him, he was one of the main reasons we equalized. Just noting that as of now he has more of the style of a winger. No doubt with time he will mature and maybe become a true no 10. But I see his development going more like a Giggs or CR7 rather than a Nedved or Mata as of now. Mata was worse than terrible. Honestly I never was big on us signing him (cost way too much and money better spent on a true area of need). Not because he isn't a cracking player, but because we have a cheaper slightly different replica already (Kagawa). Mata's display today was worse than any off the notable poor displays Kagawa has given out of position, that had the media and his critics baying for his blood. So why again did we pay almost £40m, when we could have gotten Eriksen on the cheap and used the rest to bring in some true central midfielders, wingers or fullbacks. |
If Cleverley played half as poorly as Fletcher did today, we wouldn't hear the last of it on this thread for a good month. Today is one the reason I don't feel Januzaj will become a no 10 at least for a good while. He doesn't look up, particularly when he is the final 3rd of the pitch. A true number 10 pays a little more attention to his environment and teammates, even if they are very individualistic. |
Said it would be a long season. We were helped in preseason by facing strong teams that came out to play and even dominate us. Swansea came to O.T to sit back, stifle and hit on the break. Clearly Van Gaal hasn't prepped this team and his tactics to deal with this, as shown by the half time change in tactics. The fact is that almost half our PL fixtures will be off this variety, so whether its 3-5-2, 3-4-1-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or whatever. We need to have the fire power, creativity, speed and guile to breakdown or blitz teams that try this approach, because our defense is far from water tight. |
Lets all give our gut expectations for the season, no unnecessary caveats and ifs. What do think our season will look like come end of May 2015. Personally I see a tough season, but with one plenty of bright spots and a clear optimism going forward. My heart say we can be involved in the title race, but my head says we will have to push to make a UCL return. This new 3-4-1-2 formation won't help us in the cups, where you can't afford to make mistakes, as one bad game and your gone. I say Fa cup semifinalists, CC quarterfinalists , 4th position EPL. |
Abeg. Didn't they lead the effort to impose a worldwide ban on DDT which was being successfully used to prevent malaria. Now we know DDT was nowhere near as harmful as the scare mongers initially claimed. But unfortunately malaria has now established a vice grip on Africa and we are still being ravaged by the scourge of malaria. The various ministries of health and attending doctors in affected countries should make their own assessments on what sort of sample drugs to consider and use. |
Elampiro jumps into the ring, threatening to turn this into a fatal four way or 3 against 1. *activates video recorder* |
Today matchcard so far looks like this. Coogar vs Afrodoc & Coogar vs Nihilist. Which is the main event and which is the undercard we are yet to tell. No doubt more bouts will be added as the day proceeds. *grabs front row seat* |

Of course Woodward is partially responsible. This was the same guy who decided to stall on following up the work Gill had done and passed on to him, by not making early bids for Strootman, De Rossi, Cabaye, Thiago e.t.c. Instead he was wasting time chasing Fabregas while allowing our targets slip away. Fantasizing about gazumping Madrid's signing of Bale. Then stupidly assuming that United would be able to grab cheap alternatives late in the window, believing certain quality players would be become available late, chose to sit on his hands. Leading to the embarrassments of over paying for Fellaini, failing in desperate late bids/enquiries for Khedira, Herrera, Marchioso e.t.c. I woudn't be surprised if he has told Van Gaal, that he believes we will be better able to get the players he wants late in the window and is deliberately taking his sweet time. Problems is Woodward is not anything like a Daniel Levy or Michel Aulas. I don't trust to him to not end up messing things up by trying to play too smart or bold. |

Roma almost scored, tipped onto the post by Amos. |
With no real central midifielders on. Totti and Pjanic will run riot till the 90 mins is up |
Pjanic embarasses Amos |
Chicarito on for Cleverley. Coming after a brief water break, I guess the conditions are more difficult than initially envisioned |
Kagawa and Lingard have basically left Cleverley alone in the center. |
Kagawa pings a great longball that puts Keane through, but his first touch allows the defender to make a saving tackle. |
Destro close again. |
Nani, Lingard, Smalling, Keane, Kagawa e.t.c. all subbed on |
Roma will actually test our backline, unlike Galaxy who couldn't mount any sustain pressure. I like it, our defenders have to learn how to play under the new system, faster than the other outfield players. |
