coogar: if we win our next 3 games, we would be in top four by first week in january. our fixtures going into christmas are the easiest. the teams at the top get to play each other from now till january.Exactly. Moyes of a month ago would have played the same lineup as today. Only that Rooney would have been up top. Welbeck would have been wide. Jones in midfield. Generally putting players in all manner of unnatural positions just to be more solid. Today due to injuries, we were forced to play players in their natural positions and we saw a cohesive performance. Defence linked to midfield, midfield linked to attack and vice versa. But I can't trust that next week we won't see Smalling at RB, Jones at CM, Welbeck and Kagawa wide, Januzaj on the right, Rooney as lone striker e.t.c. |
I think you might want to log off the forums for a while and change your Rooney boxers and bedsheets while you're at it.
ROTFLMAO. |
I know the league cup may be our best chance of a trophy, but we need to be targeting 9 points from the remaining 3 games in 2013 before Spurs come to O.T to open 2014 (we might likely drop points against them). That means with injuries currently stretching the squad we have to rest as many as we can against Stoke midweek. |
last time Fletcher came back from iillness, he had lost about 2 yards of pace and a good amount of his usual output. it looks like his most recent bout of illness has taken even more out of him. but his experience is invaluable much preferable to Giggs. |
them wan kill Januzaj. get him off before they do. |
Evra. its amazing how his one time consistency has disappeared. |
get Fletcher on for Giggs and give him 30 mins and possibly Young for Januzaj. |
why in heavens name is ando not even on the bench, considering the injuries. why he didn't play players in their natural positions when they were all fit. I don't know. now injuries have eliminated our options. |
bros Ogbeche. don't you think we should change the title of the thread to highlight/acknowledge Moyes position. just realized we hadn't. |
coogar: you said it was when rooney came back scoring we got to the first position & that claim has been reported to be false. This is the point Elampiro, don't writing epistles to obfuscate the point. All the rest of your megede fegede doesn't change that. |
doubt it will be any good. what more do either of them have to say about each other or their previous clubs, we haven't heard before coogar: can't wait for the match to finish. ITV's doing a documentary after the match: keane/vieira(the best of enemies). that's what i am itching to see. |
Who does Anderson have to kill to get a start? |
how magnanimous of Moyes to accept the obvious truth that he has failed to get the best from the squad. but why is he still trying to run down what they achieved last season. stop directly and indirectly trying to find excuses. just fix it. if we are going to play ugly, then at least get results. |
debosky: I hope you guys are considering getting some therapy for elampiro.abeg. this is still better than the lengthy epistles and articles he would normally post whenever arguments arose in the past. |
United are finding it harder to break down teams. Already this season they have been behind in league matches for a total of 358 minutes. In 2012-13 it was 416 minutes across 38 games. Losing a goal was usually a signal for Ferguson's sides to unleash sound and fury; too often Moyes's United have gone mute. |
Player tracking data shows that there are fewer runs being made into the box too. United's midfield is an obvious weakness but any side with Wayne Rooney, Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa should be more fluent. At the other end, United are blocking fewer shots (21.8% this season compared with 29.9% in 2012-13), suggesting opponents are having more attacks and shots on the break. |
we have heard the orchestra play these tunes a thousand times. But while United have suffered injuries to key players such as Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick, the most substantial change has been to the club's conductor. David Moyes took over a squad that finished 11 points clear last season. Given they are so far behind fourth place, it is only right to ask what has altered. |
"Nothing has changed. Last season, United had the highest percentage of shots from the best areas and they gave up the lowest percentage of shots from the best areas. That's not what their shot chart looks like now. They are giving up more shots in dangerous areas, and the chances they are creating are not as good." |
The numbers this season are more in the red than black. Their points tally of 22 is their lowest after 15 matches since 2001-02. They have the same number of league defeats – five – as in the whole of 2012-13. Average goals per game have slumped from 2.26 last season to 1.43. And of the stats Opta track – including possession, cross completion, duels won, shots on target – United are worse this season than last, save for one: they score a higher percentage of goals (36% compared with 31%) from set pieces. |
“First, United are less creative and more direct. They have played a slightly higher percentage of forward passes (41.9% compared with 40.1% in 2012-13) but have less success when they pass the ball into their opponent’s final third (54% compared with 57.3%). And while football heat maps too often resemble 1990s Global Hypercolor T-shirts with their catarrhy blotches of stat-gunk, United’s has noticeably changed, with fewer red patches in central zones – signalling that they are not playing through teams as much – and greater activity on the flanks, particularly on the left, indicating more crossing and less efficiency in attack.” |
I just knew we would draw an EPL side as usual. How can we ever win the fa cup with such luck? |
elampiro: Rooney bottom level is because of the kind of players surrounding him.abeg stop that nonsense. even when we had a strong midfield Rooney would constantly drop deep. it has more to do with his restless nature and desire to touch the ball regularly, else he starts letting his frustration get the better of him. |
see what Moyes has caused amongst united fans. lol |

elampiro: Moyes has tried everything. He should block his ears to criticks and play whatever he wants to play. He should bring his type of players by Jnauary.1. We ain't City. This club is loaded with debt obligation and the Glazers are notorious penny pinchers even in times of relative wealthiness. We can't afford to go on such a massive overhaul with the accompanying costs (wages & transfer fees). 2. We don't need to write off other players as it Moyes and his backroom staff who are making some/most of them look ordinary with his overly chaotic transitioning, that has been needlessly rougher than it needed to be, had he fully realized he was taking charge of a cruise/ocean liner not a fishing vessel. 3. After blowing £27.5m on Fellaini, I am not sure I would support giving Moyes a blank cheque to bring in his type of players until there is a marked improvement on what I am seeing. |
elampiro:Who is extending blame. In fact I give up. |
elampiro: I forgot, Zaha shoould be sold to Okomu oil for free. When Moyes put him on when we had our backs against wall and he was even played on the left not the right. |
I think Sir Alex has more blood pressure now, watching us play, then when he was on the bench. He has to come back for his own health. hahaLMAO. |
elampiro: I beg, Jones did his job. He didn't allow Newcastle to pass around so freely. We had many attack minded guys who could have won us the match.Who is disputing that you. Honestly its like you read what you want to see, not what is written. Carrick choice of passing would have been better, quicker, more diverse. He would have also be able to step up and combine with Cleverley or RVP when were trying to mount sustained pressure on Newcastle for much of the game when Newcastle ceded ground to us. He would have been able to help us create and maintain pressure when Newcastle took the lead and dropped back to consolidate the result. Jones did his job and we still lost, nothing was gained. We barely breached a Newcastle side that has been ripped up regularly by lesser teams. They had more possession and more shots at goal, even with Jones on the pitch. We need more help going forward than defensively. We have got the league best attack from last season, once we can them activated we will be okay, but as of now they are in funk and need help to get going. We need to be focusing on playing constructively in a collective manner. Even it means being more open and taking more risk. Jones can only defend, he offers nothing constructively and none of our central midfielders is in the sort of form where they can carry the load alone and regardless of what he may bring defensively, we will still concede and get over run because he is only so good in the midfield role, its just a matter of a couple of degrees in terms of how much we will lose without him in midfield. We need to start playing and actually opening up teams, the present lot aren't up to it and need help. All the players will need to contribute in all phases. This is why I am so insistent on playing players in their natural positions and against gimmicks that offer little positives. |
We are being turned into a side that has no resemblance to any United side ever. Worse looking than our poorest side in recent memory. Even the 03/04 side had goals but was weak in goal and in defence, then 04/05 couldn't hit the back of an empty despite creating lots of chances, then 05/06 was incredibly weak and fragile physically. But we never looked clueless, toothless and poor attacking and creative wise, individually and collectively. I will ask again what in God's name are Moyes and his backroom staff doing with this squad in between matchdays. |
coogar: we have only scored 3 open play goals at OT this season. think about it. 8 home games & we have 8 league goals to show for it. that's not down to the players, it's moyes!!!! the glazers won't sit around & watch scottish solidarity ruin their investment.Actually no. So long as Woodward keeps the sponsorship deals coming, they won't be bothered and Woodward himself has said that he can still get sponsors regardless of any slide in competitiveness. |
elampiro: How do some of you guys watch football self? Jones did his work very well. He frustrated many moves and covered Rafael well even though Janujaz had no defensive skills. The threats and the goal came from the left defensive side. With RVP, Adnan, Nani, Chicha and Cleverley we were okay with attack minded formation. The poor decision by Nani, Janujaz and Chicha in the box were a hallmark of naïve forwards.Do you read at all or just jump to conclusions after getting the general gist. Did I not write clearly Jones did well. Where did I scape goat him (like you did with Cleverley and Welbeck last weekend)? My point is that what we gained defensively playing him still counted for nil, cos we still conceded and when we needed a spark and goals, we couldn't get them as he impedes us constructively. Who cares whether we get dominated, so long as there 3 points waiting for us at the end of 90 minutes. You can be okay with a fairly solid, slightly unlucky 1 nil loss. I will take an open 4-3 victory (like last seasons) every day. |
