Bello Turji, We Know You're Enjoying Protection From Nigerian Authorities But If You Come Here, We Will Kill You – Niger Republic Military Officer Warns Bandits Kingpin
The officer, in a viral video, told Turji that he (Turji) was not elusive, as credible intelligence showed that the bandits kingpin was being protected by the Nigerian government.
A Lieutenant Colonel from the Niger Republic Army has asked bandits' kingpin, Bello Turji, to stay off his country.
The officer, in a viral video, told Turji that he (Turji) was not elusive, as credible intelligence showed that the bandits kingpin was being protected by the Nigerian government.
The officer who said he was from a military unit in the state of Zandar, while reacting to Turji's claim where the terrorist mocked the Nigerien military's claim of arresting a wanted terrorist, Muhammadu Baleri; who is one of Turji's commanders, vowed that the days of Turji's terror reign were numbered.
SaharaReporters had on May 29, 2024, reported how the leader of a notorious bandit group, Kachalla Baleri was reportedly apprehended.
The armed bandit was reportedly apprehended on Tuesday, May 28, by the Niger Republic's troops of Operation Faraoutar Bushiya at Rouga Kowa Gwani in Guidan-Roumdji department.
Reacting to Turji's mockery in a viral video, the military officer warned the terrorists' commander against severe consequences of his actions.
He said "Bello Turji, let me warn you. Niger is not like Nigeria, in Nigeria you're enjoying protection from the authorities; because in Nigeria, unlike here in Niger, troops require express permission and/or orders to shoot. Make no mistake, I swear by God it's not really true that you've evaded arrest or killing, even in Nigeria.
"What's happening there is a high level conspiracy by the authorities to hurt the poor, especially those from the northern part.
"Niger is not Nigeria! If only you're sensible you ought to have known that you cannot play this rubbish game with the Nigerien military. Let me repeat, I swear by the prophet, Muhammad and swear by God, Bello Turji you're doing this because your government, the Nigerian government conspired against its citizens to allow your reign of terrorism. They protected you (from credible intelligence), you're actually a nobody. Don't mistake Niger to be like your country.
"In your own interest, avoid confrontation with the armed forces of Niger, Mali and Borkina Faso. I swear by the Quran if you mistakenly incurse into the territory of any of these listed countries you'll scamper to leave; that is if you're able to escape.
"I counsel you to restrict yourself to Nigeria, commiting your atrocities, kidnapping innocent people for ransom, killing at will, while enjoying protection from the country's military. The Nigerien military, we are patriotic, we don't condone this type of treasonable felony against our country.
"On whether we're wrong on the identity of the man we arrested, that's Baleri, there's nothing disturbing because the person we arrested actually confessed to be Baleri, your right hand man; and I can bet you know that to be true.
"Now get this into your head Bello Turji, your days are numbered and in no distant future you'll be apprehended. By the power of God the end for you guys have come.
"Your types have brought the terrorism stereotype against the Fulani race, and its not fair. Because of you, the Fulani race, the world over seem to have been designated as a terrorists' race.
"Why is it that only you guys from the Fulani extraction are into kidnapping and banditry, Bello Turji?
"Now take my parting words, the same way you abduct innocent people and take them into the jungle, kill some, collect ransom on others, your cup is full, you'll soon be apprehended." https://saharareporters.com/2024/06/08/bello-turji-we-know-youre-enjoying-protection-nigerian-authorities-if-you-come-here-we

James Brown, who went alongside some other individuals, disclosed his visit in a post on his Instagram page on Friday.
He wrote, “I went to Kirikiri prison to visit Bobrisky to know if she is alright.”
In April, the Nigerian Correctional Service, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Rotimi Oladokun, disclosed that Bobrisky was remanded in a male custodial centre and observed all regulations and rules in place at the centre, especially concerning the dress code.
It was also reported that the controversial crossdresser was treated equally like other inmates in the facility. https://punchng.com/photos-james-brown-visits-bobrisky-at-kirikiri-correctional-centre/

Politics › NBA Recognises Muhammadu Sanusi As Emir Of Kano by Morbeta11(op): 9:33pm On Jun 04, 2024 |
NBA recognises Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano
As the tussle for the throne of the Kano emirate lingers, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has invited the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in what looks like recognition of him as the authentic and lawful Emir of Kano.
This is coming after all the district heads across the 44 local government areas of Kano, council chairmen, commissioners, well-meaning Kano people, and Nigerians considered him as the one on the throne. The NBA has also identified with Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano by inviting him to their ongoing annual conference in Kano.
The NBA Annual Conference, held at Amani Event Centre, Kano, which had in attendance the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Aboki, and other legal luminaries, is the first NBA’s annual conference for the entire northern region.
Given the significance of this gathering, the NBA officially invited Emir Sanusi to not just attend but also to render his royal blessing and address the participants. The NBA did not invite Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, having recognized that the 15th emir has been dethroned by the new Kano chieftaincy (repealed) law 2024.
The case was to be heard at the federal high court yesterday but was stalled due to the strike action by organized Labour unions. Emir Sanusi, who spoke at the NBA conference through his representative, Mahe Bashir Wali (the Walin Kano), welcomed the participants warmly and told them that Kano has a long, enviable history as a cultural and commercial nerve center of the northern region.
The monarch said the theme of the conference, ‘Administration of Justice in Nigeria: Challenges and Reforms,’ was apt, as it was only when there is justice in the land that society can have peace, which is a prerequisite for progress and development.
For the State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, it was a good opportunity to challenge the NBA members on the conflicting court orders given on the Kano emirate tussle when the case is purely a state affair.
The governor, represented at the conference by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, told the legal practitioners to always tell their clients the truth when they bring a bad case, even when the truth is bitter, rather than insisting on satisfying their clients by carrying out what is not within the ambit of the law.
To overcome the challenges confronting the administration of justice in Nigeria, the Governor said we must uphold the rule of law and make comprehensive judicial reforms.
Speaking to journalists on the emirate tussle, Barr O.M Femi said the NBA is not unaware of what is happening, “but it is good that the court is to decide, so that none of the parties involved will be aggrieved again. The ruling will set a precedence for lawyers and judges on such matters
“However, you don’t need to be told or wear binoculars to see that His Royal Majesty Muhammadu Sanusi II is the current Emir of Kano. Nothing explains this fact more than what could be deduced from the ongoing NBA’s annual conference attended by Muhammadu Sanusi II by proxy. The recognition accorded him by the legal practitioners of our land tells it all,” he said. https://dailypost.ng/2024/06/04/nba-recognises-muhammadu-sanusi-as-emir-of-kano/

Politics › Qatar Airways, Hajj Operators Clash Over N296m Ticket Refund by Morbeta11(op): 5:58am On Jun 04, 2024 |
Qatar Airways, Hajj operators clash over N296m ticket refund
Thirteen travel agencies and their clients are ready for a showdown with Qatar Airways for allegedly refusing to implement N296m ticket refund since 2022.
According to a document obtained by The PUNCH, 13 Hajj agents have paid varying sums to the Qatar flag carrier for air tickets for the 2022 Hajj exercise but the clients could not fly as planned because the Saudi Arabian Embassy did not issue visas to the intending pilgrims.
Our correspondent gathered that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria was intimated with the situation through a letter dated June 21, 2022.
The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority had also waded into the matter on several occasions but their efforts had yet to yield any fruit as the airline remained reportedly adamant over the refund.
While 12 travel agents paid the airline N252,408,123 for the botched trip, another agent, Al-Yusuf Travels, also paid N43,874,024 to the airline, bringing the total ticket cost to N296,282,147.
The other affected travel agents included: Meeqat Travels and Tours N19,028,269; Fatimoh Olabisi Travels, N15,018,014; Amami Global Links, N15,650,000; Light Upon Light Travels, N22,200,000; Albaratullahi Travels, N43,447,580; Olagunju Travels, N21,632,203; Bolade Travels, N31,804,720; Ashabul Yameen Travels, 15,990,727; Koki Travels, N20,664,000; New Crescent Travels, N27,740,070; Al Hidayah Travels, 11,520,000 and Niyyat Travels also paid N7,712,540.
Meanwhile, findings by our correspondent showed that the top echelons of the airline in Nigeria claimed that the refund approval was subject to the willingness of higher-ranking officers at the headquarters of the airline in Qatar.
Also in a demand letter written to the carrier by the solicitor to the travel agencies sighted by our correspondent, the law firm demanded an immediate refund of the tickets money at the instance of the clients.
The legal document read in part, “Our clients have informed us that on 24 January 2024, a resolution meeting was convened between the management of Qatar Airways and National Association of Nigeria Traveling Agencies, executives and our clients at the board room of Qatar Airways whereof requests were made and same responded to by Qatar Airways management.
“With a total amount being N252,408,123 (two hundred and fifty-two million four hundred and eight thousand one hundred and twenty-three naira only). This amount excludes the amount of air ticket paid to your organisation by another operator Al-YusufTravels, which is N43,874,024 and which is currently been litigated over at the Federal High Court in suit number FCH/L/CS/2483/23.”
It added, “It is worthy to mention that despite the intervention of the National Haji Commission of Nigeria and The President of the National Association of Nigeria Travelling Agencies for a swift resolution of this matter since 2022 your organisation has been foot-dragging and playing all forms of delay tactics that would warrant refusal of refund to the unused air ticket payments.
“It is equally within our brief that our clients logged a complaint of your ineptitude and utmost neglect of their plight in September 2023 at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Ikeja Lagos, while in October 2023 a meeting was called at the office of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Director General Dr Chris Najomo in which the Representatives of Qatar Airways (led by Mr Henry and others) were in attendance and our clients.”
One of the affected travel agents, who pleaded anonymity because he wasn’t officially empowered to speak on behalf of the concerned agents, noted that it was clear that the airline was not interested in refunding the money.
“By the actions and reactions of their representatives in Nigeria, they are not willing to pay us back except if something drastic, such as picketing is effected on them,” he stated.
‘Africa records 2% of global passenger traffic’ Another agent, Fatai Tijani, who claimed to be at the forefront of the recovery fight, said that they were frustrated about the development.
Tijani, however, added that the airline was employing all forms of delay tactics to avoid the ticket refund.
He further said, “Through a meeting where we engaged with them on Friday, it was very glaring that they want to eat the money at all cost and trying to create the propaganda that it was because the tickets were not cancelled and that made them lose money when, in actual reality, all the flights were fully booked on the days concerned and the letter from the President of the National Hajj Commission stated that clearly.
“We are specifically instructing and pleading with them to refund our money to us for God’s sake!”
The coordinator of the affected agents, Kaseem Taoreed, expressed disappointment in the airline, describing the scenario as a clear disregard for the sovereignty and laws of Nigeria.
While speaking with our correspondent over the phone, Taoreed stated that the same scenario played out in Ghana but the airline immediately paid the concerned agents.
Taoreed added that some agents had been in and out of the police stations because the airline refused to make the refund.
His words, “We have discovered that Qatar Airways is only playing us. Meanwhile, the job that we do is commission-based, so for an airline to come up and say we would have to lose even the cost of the ticket that is an act of undermining the laws of the country where you are operating. In Ghana, the same thing happened and within a month, all the affected agencies were refunded in full by the same Qatar Airways in October 2022. Why is Nigeria an exception?
Taoreed, however, called on the Federal Government to help them retrieve their funds from the airline at any cost.
“We are calling on the Federal Government to step in and ensure that Qatar Airways pays us our money in full, using the current exchange rate. They should also be suspended from the Nigeria route because they had earlier been written by the Nigeria Hajj Commission but they still refused to pay. Some rules guide international trade, especially in the aviation industry. They are not the only ones involved but others paid,” he asserted.
When contacted, a consultant to Qatar Airways, David Odimegwu, initially pleaded for 24 hours to speak with the management of the airline in Doha, Qatar.
At the expiration of the 24 hours, the consultant requested another 24 hours but also refused to respond, even two days later.
An e-mail requesting a response on the matter was also sent to the headquarters of the airline but there was no response from the airline after 24 hours. https://punchng.com/qatar-airways-hajj-operators-clash-over-n296m-ticket-refund/#google_vignette

The same horse that topped the winners’ list at the 2022 and 2023 editions of the competition, had been the defending champion in the last three years.

”The race, which is traditional in nature, further provided an opportunity for the display of cultures as various cultural activities were on display,” the Etsu Nupe added.
Abubakar, who described horse racing as a historic event, expressed joy that it was fast gaining acceptance in the emirate.
He called on the residents to take full advantage of the economic opportunities of horse racing, especially as the riders from other states and countries participated.
He explained that the sport was not only unique but portrayed that animals could be controlled.
The Etsu Nupe acknowledged the diligent planning and execution of the event, saying, ” It encourages sportsmanship and bolsters unity of the country, Africa and the world.
He said, ”This event also boosts the socio-economic development of Bida, Niger and Nigeria as a whole. We will sustain this enviable feat.
”We are happy that this is the fourth edition of this event and it has been successful. The next edition holds in Kaduna on June 26, In sha Allahu.”
Also, the Emir of Lafiagi Kwara, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu-Kawu, described the event as a veritable tool for uniting various traditional institutions.
Matters outstanding for Renewed Hope He described horse racing as one of the age-long pastimes and rich cultural heritages of the people, commending the Etsu Nupe and the Sarkin Dawakin for a successful outing.
The emir also acknowledged the increasing acceptability of horse racing in the country and the world, saying that it was also becoming more profitable for investors.
A traditional ruler from Umuahia, Abia, Eze Sheikh Abdulfatai Chima-Eze, the Emetoma III, emphasised that the tournament was promoting national unity and excitement.
The Coordinator, National Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria, Sarkin Dawaki Nupe, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha-Bida, said that more measures were being taken to domesticate the competition in all parts of Nigeria.
Mustapha-Bida, who is also the Chairman, New Niger Development Project, said that the event was organised as part of the commemoration of the one-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu.
He said the event had ”Renewed Hope’ as its theme.
Mustapha-Bida stated that they had introduced the ”division system” in the event to be on par with the extant global best practices in horse racing.
”Nigeria is taking a lead in the horse racing in the committee of nations in Africa, we are very happy to be part of history and to have pushed to ensure that this has become a reality.
”We have five countries participating, they are Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali.
”These are our national partners during racing events in Nigeria, it is like an exchange programme.
”They come to race with us and then we go there to race with them in their different countries,” Sarkin Dawaki Nupe added.
He said that the Renewed Hope was also expected to defend the title in subsequent races in Kaduna and Kano in June and July respectively.
Six Toyota vehicles were presented to the winners of various categories of race.
The winner of the second position got N700,000 each winner of the third and fourth positions received N500,000 and N300,000 respectively. https://punchng.com/tinubus-horse-renewed-hope-wins-niger-horse-racing-tournament/

Falana Urges National Assembly Members To Pass New Minimum Wage Act In 48 Hours As They Did For National Anthem
Falana, in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Monday morning, argued that the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 has expired and there is a need for the government at all levels to review and pass a new law to that effect.
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Femi Falana has urged the National Assembly to hurriedly pass an enactment to set a new minimum wage that will resonate with current economic realities in the country as they did for the national anthem a few days ago.
Falana, in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Monday morning, argued that the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 has expired and there is a need for the government at all levels to review and pass a new law to that effect.
The organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had vowed to commence an indefinite strike today (Monday).
Falana wrote: “Pursuant to the National Minimum Wage Act 2019, the national minimum wage was fixed at N30,000. By virtue of section 3(4) of the Act 2019 the national minimum wage expires after five years, and it shall be reviewed in line with the provisions of this Act.
“Since the commencement date of the Act was the 18th day of April 2019, the national minimum wage of N30,000 has since expired. Hence, the Minister of State, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Honourable Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, announced during the last May Day rally in Abuja that the new national minimum wage would take effect on May 1, 2024.
“Following the removal of fuel subsidy last year, the Federal Government had announced an additional N35,000 wage award (wage subsidy) for six months, starting from 1 September 2023. During the 6-month period, the total monthly wage payable to a worker was N65,000. In the same vein, the various state governments awarded various sums as wage subsidy to their workers. Both Lagos and Edo State Governments have since announced a minimum wage of N70,000.
“Curiously, the Federal Government turned round to offer a minimum wage of N48,000. Hence, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have embarked on an indefinite strike due to the failure of the Federal Government and other employers of employment to pay a realistic new minimum wage to Nigerian workers.
“However, it has been reported that the leaders of the National Assembly have intervened in the planned strike.
“The National Assembly should, therefore, pass speedily a new National Minimum Wage Act like the new National Anthem Act that was enacted within 48 hours, last week.”
SaharaReporters had reported that the organised labour said it would go ahead with its plan to commence an indefinite strike (today) Monday despite last-minute moves by the National Assembly leadership to avert the industrial action.
The representatives of organised labour on Sunday said they lacked the power to call off the strike, adding that there was no going on the industrial action on Monday. https://saharareporters.com/2024/06/03/falana-urges-national-assembly-members-pass-new-minimum-wage-act-48-hours-they-did

Politics › States Banning Sale Of Alcohol Shouldn’t Get VAT On Beer - Ex-Minister, Adewole by Morbeta11(op): 5:46am On Jun 03, 2024 |
States banning sale of alcohol shouldn’t get VAT on beer, says ex-minister Isaac Adewole, a former minister of health, has called for fiscal federalism that allows states to receive funds in accordance with what they generate.
Fiscal federalism is how the federal, state, and local governments share funding and other administrative responsibilities within a federal system.
Adewole spoke on Friday on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political programme on Channels Television.
The former minister said any state that prohibits the sale of alcoholic drinks should not get out of the value-added tax (VAT) on such products from the federation account.
“I am an apostle of fiscal and physical federalism,” Adewole said.
“We need to look at how we share the resources of this country. If you have a law that prevents you from selling alcohol, that law should also prevent you from sharing money from alcohol.
“We should be honest with ourselves. States that prohibit the sale of alcohol should not share the VAT from alcohol. Straight forward.
Adewole, who was a former vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), backed President Bola Tinubu’s call for restructuring and resource control by sub-nationals.
He urged governors to allow the local government councils to function independently.
“Then we should also ask each state what they are bringing to the table. A situation where states only share money from oil is absurd, and that is why we are where we are today because the other states are not bringing anything to the table,” he added.
“What is happening to our gold, bitumen, and lithium? The resources from all of these, where are they? The only thing we know is oil money.” https://www.thecable.ng/states-banning-sale-of-alcohol-shouldnt-get-vat-on-beers-says-ex-minister/amp/

Multinationals leaving Nigeria due to foreign exchange woes – Edun
The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has stated that the lack of a liquid foreign exchange market was the major reason why some multinational companies exited Nigeria.
Edun, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, stated that the government has addressed this issue by establishing a willing buyer, willing seller foreign exchange market.
He said, “One of the major drawbacks one of the major impediments for them (exiting multinationals) was they did not have a liquid foreign exchange market.
“Now, we have a willing buyer, willing seller foreign exchange market. It is elevated, may be not at the levels we will like it to be but it is when you get inflation down that you can stabilise the exchange rate and even get it coming down similarly with the interest rate. That fight is on. It is an improved environment for them, for big investors as a whole.”
He explained that the inability of the exiting multinationals to access foreign exchange was a major impediment to their operations in the country.
According to Edun, recent executive orders signed by President Bola Tinubu have improved the investment climate for the gas sector, which Nigeria has in abundance.
Edun said, “Companies will always come and go, of course, our aim is to not only keep them but to have them even more coming to invest, and we are sure that with the environment that we put in place, they would come.”
The minister also disclosed that tax reform proposals aimed at simplifying doing business for local and foreign manufacturers are being considered as part of an Economic Stabilisation Package.
While acknowledging current economic challenges, Edun expressed optimism about the country’s economic future, stating that the government is working tirelessly to create a conducive environment for investors.
“We are in a difficult place but the direction of travel is and it’s towards improvement. So, every single day, every single month, we are looking at an improved economic situation for Nigeria,” he said. https://punchng.com/multinationals-leaving-nigeria-due-to-foreign-exchange-woes-edun/#google_vignette

Nnamdi Kanu: Nigerian Court Issues Notice To DSS Boss Bichi, Of Consequences Of Disobeying Order, Risk Of Jail Incarceration
The lawyers accused the DG of the SSS, also known as the Department of State Services (DSS) of flagrant disobedience to the valid court order of the Federal High Court to provide Kanu's lawyers with a facility to prepare for his defence in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015/
The legal team of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has initiated a committal proceeding against the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), Yusuf Magai Bichi, for allegedly disobeying a court order.
Justice B.F.M. Nyako on May 20, while rejecting Kanu’s bail application and his application to be transferred to a Nigerian Custodial Centre, ordered the SSS to make a room available to Kanu to prepare for his defence.
The court, however, said his legal team should not exceed five members.
The court had ruled thus: "That however, an order is hereby made varying the condition of visitation to him in custody to 3 days a week.
“He is to be given a safe and "clean" room to be made available to the Defendant at the present facility to prepare for his defence with his team of counsel not exceeding 5 in number.

Crime › Why I Want To Sell My Kidney — Man by Morbeta11(op): 5:15pm On Jun 02, 2024 |
Why I want to sell my kidney — Man
Olaniyi Iyiola, a 41-year-old resident of Ondo State, speaks with TEMITOPE ADETUNJI, on how poverty pushed him to contemplate selling one of his kidneys
What is your occupation?
My name is Olaniyi Iyiola, and I am involved in fish and pig farming. I hail from Ondo State and am 41 years old. Although I have acquired skills in this trade, I have yet to secure the capital to start my own business, leaving me presently without employment.
Where do you reside?
I live with my family in Ibadan, but due to the prevailing hardship, I temporarily relocated to Lagos in search of employment opportunities. However, the situation remains dire. I have since returned to Ibadan as one of my children fell ill.
You mentioned in a viral video your intention to sell one of your kidneys. Could you elaborate on the reasons behind this decision?
The decision stems from the prevailing conditions in our country. Often, my children lack food, let alone access to education. We struggle to make ends meet, and even basic healthcare is beyond our means. Our youngest, a two-year-old girl, survives mainly on garri, with our meals likewise restricted. The hardship has taken a toll on us, prompting thoughts of suicide. However, I resolved that selling a kidney could provide the means to support my children —covering their education, healthcare, and other necessities. It’s solely for their welfare.
How many children do you have, and what are their ages? I have three children aged 11, 4, and 2 years old, respectively.
Is your wife employed?
My wife works as an auxiliary nurse, yet financial constraints persist. She supplements her income with a cleaning job at a school in Ibadan, earning a monthly wage of N15,000. Despite past salaried positions, including earning between N25,000-N30,000, we still don’t have financial stability. The current economic landscape offers few prospects.
What is your educational background?
I hold an SSCE qualification.
When did you get married?
In 2012. I dabbled into real estate, albeit lacking the capital for significant ventures. Acting mainly as an agent, I struggled to make headway. The lack of resources hindered my efforts. Subsequently, I relocated to Ibadan in search of a more favorable environment, but challenges persisted.
When did your family move to Ibadan?
We relocated in 2017, seeking better prospects. I am currently in Ibadan due to my child’s illness, planning to return to Lagos shortly.
Where in Lagos do you reside?
I stayed in Aguda, Ogba, with a benefactor who accommodated me following my relocation from Ibafo, Ogun State.
Are you aware of the legal and health risks associated with kidney sales?
While I acknowledge potential risks, the dire circumstances leave me with limited options. I am solely driven by the need to provide for my children.
How old is your wife, and is she aware of your decision?
My wife is 38 years old. Although she remains unaware of my intent to sell a kidney, I assured her not to fret upon encountering my story on social media. Our shared concern is solely the well-being of our children.
How do you manage rent payments in Ibadan given your current situation?
I undertake odd jobs whenever available, but sustenance remains a challenge. We often rely on garri and palm oil for sustenance, underscoring the severity of our plight. Selling a kidney is a desperate measure to secure our well-being, particularly that of our children.
Do you have relatives or friends who can offer support?
Unfortunately, no. I come from a very poor background. I don’t have relatives that can help me. Similarly, the few friends I have are unable to offer assistance.
Are your children currently attending school?
No, they are not. I don’t have money to send them to school.
What prompted your decision to sell a kidney, and what do you intend to do with the proceeds?
The intent is to secure funds for establishing businesses and ensuring financial stability for my family, particularly my children. It’s a last resort borne out of desperation, driven solely by the desire to provide for my family.
Have you received any offers since the video went viral?
Two people contacted me. One sent me N5,000 and the other person from abroad sent N8,000. There are small amounts of money that came in too. The total amount that I have received is N23,000. But this cannot solve my family’s problem.
Have you sought assistance from organizations or charities?
Some organisations have expressed interest in helping, though I am yet to receive follow-up communication from them. https://punchng.com/why-i-want-to-sell-my-kidney-man/

Christianity Etc › How Giving God N5,000 Brought Me N25,000, Foodstuff— Pastor Ibiyeomie by Morbeta11(op): 6:45am On Jun 02, 2024 |
ICYMI: How giving God N5,000 brought me N25,000, foodstuff— Pastor Ibiyeomie
The presiding pastor of Salvation Ministries, David Ibiyeomie, has said that giving God his salary of N5000 in 1997 led to a chain of miracles.
The televangelist stated this in a video he posted on Instagram on May 28, 2024.
In the video, Ibiyeomie, who was standing behind the pulpit, claimed that his wife had asked him to give her his N5,000 salary, so she could go to the market.
He alleged that he later heard God saying he should give Him the money instead, and he obeyed.
He added that an hour after he ‘gave the N5,000 to God’, he got a gift of N25,000, a bag of rice, beans, and a crate of eggs from an unknown woman.
Recalling the incident, he said, “My wife told me she wanted to go to the market in 1997, and my salary was N5,000.”
“She said to me upstairs, ‘My husband, we have to go to the market’, and, I said to her, ‘I am coming’. But, I heard God say to me, ‘Give me the N5,000. That’s madness!
“Nobody will give you money physically. Your wife said she wanted to go to the market, and that day, you earned your salary, with no other money elsewhere. And, God said, ‘Give me’? You need faith. You can hear God but without faith, it won’t produce.”
The Port Harcourt, Rivers State-based pastor added, “Then, I took the N5,000 and dropped it as a sacrifice. In less than one hour, a woman said God spoke to her, that there was a pastor in town, that she should take N25000, pack a bag of rice, a bag of beans, a crate of eggs, everything in her kitchen, and give to that man of God. She drove down and dropped everything without even meeting me.”
Ibiyeomie added that the woman’s husband later gave her some money. He said, “The same day her husband— a very stingy man— who had never given her N100,000 before gave her N1m, after which he got a job in Abuja.”
Meanwhile, there have been diverse reactions to Ibiyeomie’s claims.
A social media user, clifofoboss, wrote, “Format in which you can take all that someone has.”
Zonaempire wrote, “The same God that told Pastor Sam Adeyemi to relocate to US, abi?”
Apparently in agreement with Ibiyeomie’s statement, temi. dayo_ and dj_joeteee responded, “Acting in faith”, and “Papa, I love you.”
On his part, Awojideamos stated, “Giving! Giving!! Giving!!! Can we discuss something else please?”
prettiesttiana asked, “Please How do I know it is the voice of God speaking to me?”
Ciponi4real wrote, “That was how God spoke to my friend in 2021, who gave his Peugeot 406 car to the church; (and) till today, I’m still picking and dropping him. Why his own is different is what I don’t know. I’m tired!” https://punchng.com/how-giving-god-n5000-brought-me-n25000-foodstuff-pastor-ibiyeomie/

Multinational Company, Kimberly-Clark Exits Nigeria Over Harsh Economy After 14-Year Operation
The company’s decision comes after it has operated locally in Nigeria for 14 years, according to a statement issued on Friday.
The American multinational and makers of “Huggies”, Kimberly-Clark, has exited the Nigerian market, citing the harsh economy.
The company’s decision comes after it has operated locally in Nigeria for 14 years, according to a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the company intended to adjust global strategic priorities and the prevailing economic conditions in Nigeria.
“Kimberly-Clark today announces it has made the difficult decision to exit its business in Nigeria after almost 15 years, due to recently refocused company strategic priorities globally as well as economic developments in the country,” the statement read.
The firm announced that it would close its manufacturing facilities and commercial office in Lagos State, ending production, marketing, and sales of Huggies and Kotex products in Nigeria.
The company informed everyone that its first priority was to uphold its commitments and guarantee that workers and partners are treated fairly and respectfully during the transition.
Kimberly-Clark had invested significantly in Nigeria, opening a factory in the Ikorodu area of Lagos in 2022, which was estimated to cost over $100million.
The company’s exist follows a recent trend of multinational corporations exiting the Nigerian market.
In August 2023, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc announced plans to transfer its business activities to a third-party organisation.
Similarly, in November 2023, French pharmaceutical company, Sanofi-Aventis Nigeria Limited, halted its direct operations in the country.
By December 2023, Procter and Gamble also revealed plans to shift from local production to importing its products.
The departure of these international companies signals a challenging business environment in Nigeria, prompting reassessments of market strategies by global firms. https://saharareporters.com/2024/05/31/multinational-company-kimberly-clark-exits-nigeria-over-harsh-economy-after-14-year#google_vignette

Yoruba, Igbo, Other Ethnic Nationalities Should Be Able To Exit ‘Freely’ From Nigeria – Proposal Before National Assembly Says
The private bill was titled, “A Bill for an Act to substitute the annexure to Decree 24 of 1999 with a new governance model for the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
Every ethnic nationality and people in Nigeria will have an unconditional right to self-determination, the promoter of a trending draft "bill" seeking a return to the regional system of government, Dr Akin Fapohunda, has proposed.
The private bill was titled, “A Bill for an Act to substitute the annexure to Decree 24 of 1999 with a new governance model for the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
In the full proposal obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday, Fapohunda also suggested the scrapping of the presidential system of government, reintroduction of the parliamentary system, return to unicameral legislature, as well as provision for self-determination by any section of the country which desires so.
It read, “Every Ethnic Nationality and People in Nigeria has an unconditional right to self-determination within here delineated territories.
“The sovereignty, powers and authority to formulate the articles of association towards any reform of the Central Federal Government of Nigeria, at any other time shall lie jointly and severally with all the ethnic nationalities occupying their respective territories.
“Every Ethnic Nationality and People in Nigeria has the right to a full measure of self-government which includes the right to establish institutions of government in the territory that it inhabits and to equitable representation in the Federal and Regional Governments.
“A "Ethnic Nationality or People" for the purpose of this Constitution, is a group of people who have or share large measure of a common culture or similar customs, mutual intelligibility of language, belief in a common or related identities, a common psychological make-up, and who inhabit an identifiable, predominantly contiguous territory.”
The bill promoter added that the 36 states of the federation should be scrapped and Nigeria should be returned to regional system.
Part of the draft Bill seen by SaharaReporters on Friday had partly read, "PART I - Preliminaries: WHEREAS Nigeria, its Peoples and Government have been governed under Decree 24 of 1999 that was handed down by the then Military Government without the express consent of the people despite the preamble of "We the people."
"WHEREAS the said Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) is not autochthonous as it does not evolve from the deliberations and consensus of the Nigerian People.
"WHEREAS the Peoples of Nigeria now desire and effectively demand for a change to a Constitution based on Federal/Regional System of Government.
"WHEREAS the Federal and Regional governments are to operate within the provisions of this Constitution, it is within the discretion of the ethnic blocs within the States that constitutes a given region to aggregate or disaggregate as Provinces, Divisions and Districts, while being in control of their affairs without let or hindrance at whatever level of governance.
"Whereas the 1999 Constitution as amended is a schedule of a military decree now deemed to be an Act of the National Assembly for which the National Assembly have the powers to amend and/or abrogate as expedient.
"Whereas the National Assembly where so necessary and expedient can invoke the doctrine of necessity to resolve any point of law for the good governance of the country Nigeria."
On PART 11 - Substitution Clause, the drafters proposed that the National Assembly shall invoke its inherent powers to expunge the schedule attached to decree 24 of 1999 often referred to as 1999 Constitution as amended from the decree, which "is now deemed to be an Act of the National Assembly to which the National Assembly have the powers to so do and replace same with a new governance model for Nigeria effective not later than October 1, 2024."
"This amendment is subject to a yes or no vote in a Referendum by the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," it proposed. https://saharareporters.com/2024/06/01/yoruba-igbo-other-ethnic-nationalities-should-be-able-exit-freely-nigeria-proposal#google_vignette

Politics › Doyin Okupe: Tinubu Has Set Structures In Place For The Development Of Lagos by Morbeta11(op): 7:19pm On Jun 01, 2024 |
Tinubu Once Told Me If He Put A Goat In Charge Of Lagos As Governor For Next 25 Years, It’ll Still Progress —Okupe
The former opposition party chieftain argued that the structures built by Tinubu in Lagos are responsible for the continued socioeconomic development in the state, regardless of who is in charge as the governor.
The former Director General of Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, has said that President Bola Tinubu once boasted that even if he puts a goat in charge of Lagos State as governor for the next 25 years, the state will continue to progress.
Mr Okupe said this when he was featured on a Channels TV programme on Thursday evening, saying Tinubu said this to him during a visit to his house some years ago, before he became Nigeria’s president.
The former opposition party chieftain argued that the structures built by Tinubu in Lagos are responsible for the continued socioeconomic development in the state, regardless of who is in charge as the governor.
He said, “Let me tell you something I have not shared before. It is not even surprising. On the 21st of March, 2022, I was at that time running for president myself under PDP, if you remember.
“I said if Bola Tinubu wins the primary, he will do well. And perhaps he would be the second-best person to me. That is what I said because I know the gentleman. I have not seen Bola Tinubu in seven years. Maybe I spoke to him on the telephone and that is all. “One day in Bourdillon, on a Saturday morning, I drove by his house, and by strange coincidence, there was nobody in the house. It was just him. “We spoke for three hours and that was the day I changed my mind about Tinubu. He told me and he showed me the master plan for Lagos. He said if we put a goat as governor from now till the next 25 years, nothing but progress will happen to Lagos.”
The President is known as the political godfather in Lagos State whose endorsement automatically determines who takes charge of the state. https://saharareporters.com/2024/05/31/tinubu-once-told-me-if-he-put-goat-charge-lagos-governor-next-25-years-itll-still

Politics › Pyrates Confraternity Denounces Affiliation With Group, Condemns Its Activities by Morbeta11(op): 8:25am On Jun 01, 2024 |
Pyrates Confraternity denounces affiliation with group, condemns its activities
Wole Soyinka and six eminent Nigerians founded The Pyrates Confraternity in 1952 at the University College, Ibadan.
The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), popularly known as The Pyrates Confraternity, has denied any affiliation with a group known as the Association of Humble and Obedient Youths (AHOY).
The denouncement came after the AHOY group released a video to associate their origin and existence with The Pyrates Confraternity, especially with their seven founding fathers, including the renowned Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka.
Addressing journalists in Lagos in company with some members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Tortuga-in-Council, NAS Capone, Abiola Owoaje, said the said video constituted “the most impudent and brazen episode of piracy on the high seas”.
He described the attempt to legitimise and link AHOY to their association as pathetic and an abject failure.
Mr Owoaje noted that the inaccuracies in AHOY’s account confirmed that their objectives were disingenuously criminal as many of their statements were untrue and highly inflammatory.
He observed that some of the statements made by the AHOY group carried serious and continuing threats to The Pyrates Confraternity’s reputation and collective and individual memberships’ personal integrity.
The NAS Capone stressed that all claims made by the authors of the video or the organisation that sought the linkage are denied and rejected. He stated that there was no truth in the assertions that they have sought to disseminate.
Mr Owoaje further described the video as a brazen attempt to tarnish the image and reputation of NAS, as well as diminish its significant positive contributions to the development of the Nigerian and global society over the past 70 years since it was founded.
“To ignore this impudence would be a gross abdication of the considerable responsibility that we have come to accept as one of the barometers of the social conscience of the communities within which we operate. We will fail ourselves and squander legitimacy if we fail to alert all relevant security agencies, and the public, of the grave potential of this act of open criminality tied to political interests.
“Their satanic ploy is aimed at compromising publicly exposed members of our association. We do not rule out plans to eliminate some who, with one word, can dismantle this glossy tumour of lies which, one must concede, has most seductively been packaged in Hi-tech designs. It is now imperative that we deal with this with swiftness within the parameters of all the legal options open to the organisation. In that respect, our legal resources are now fully engaged,” he said.
The Seadogs identified some of the trustees behind the AHOY group to include Enitan Afinuomo, John Kester, Oluwadamilare Obayemi, Lawal Einwunmi, Timothy Adegunle, David Nowoola, Ayoola Olusada, Uzoma Okoli, Ayodele Soetan, Sunday Akowe and Olatilewa Oluwayemi. It stressed that all AHOY trustees mentioned were also not affiliated or connected to the Pyrates Confraternity.
Mr Owoaje urged the authors and collaborators of the group to cease and desist forthwith, any and all actions that seek or purport to continue the dissemination of any further accounts associating themselves with The Seadogs or any members.
Recall that Mr Soyinka and six eminent Nigerians founded The Pyrates Confraternity in 1952 at the University College, Ibadan. In 1980, the Association became formally registered with the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs under the Land (Perpetual Succession) Act Cap. 98 (now in Part F of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020) with the name ‘The National Association of Seadogs’ with Certificate of Incorporation No. 1592, dated 31 October, 1980. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/699400-pyrates-confraternity-denounces-affiliation-with-group-condemns-its-activities.html

Politics › First Anniversary: Ghana Is Now Richer Than Nigeria, Says Bismark Rewane by Morbeta11(op): 4:23pm On May 30, 2024 |
First anniversary: Ghana is now richer than Nigeria, says Bismark Rewane
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Bismarck Rewane, has disclosed that Nigeria has fallen from the 32nd largest economy in the world to 42nd.
He added that in Africa, the nation has also descended from its 1st ranking to 4th in terms of wealth management and accumulation.
The renowned economist further explained that Ghana has also overtaken Nigeria, saying, “In the past, we were always richer than Ghana, now we are here. External reserves and GDP figures speak for themselves.”
In March this year, Rewane, the CEO of FDC, was among the appointed members of President Bola Tinubu’s Economic Management Team Emergency Taskforce (EET) with a mandate to formulate and implement a consolidated emergency economic plan.
Speaking on the first anniversary of Tinubu’s term in office on Wednesday, Rewane, during his economic scorecard and presentations on Channels Television, categorized Nigeria’s economic performance into the good, bad, and ugly based on his available metrics.
He added that the economic metrics and rankings look tough but there is room for improvement in the Nigerian economy.
He said, “Our ranking among African countries has declined. Last year, our GDP growth was 2.98 per cent; South Africa was 1.93 per cent, Kenya four per cent, and Ghana 3.8 per cent. Inflation was 33 per cent for us, five per cent for South Africa, five per cent for Kenya, and 25 per cent for Ghana.
“Our GDP per capita is $1,111, while South Africa’s is $6,700, Kenya’s is $2,000, and Ghana’s is $2,200. External reserves as a percentage of GDP illustrate a tough picture.
“In the past, we were always richer than Ghana, but now we are here. External reserves and GDP figures speak for themselves.”
Period equity: Call for thoughtful action He added that major policy changes were announced in 2023, including the $1 trillion GDP goal, that the time lag between policy announcements and their effects was a drag on outcomes, and unintended consequences led to social unrest.
“There’s a cost of living crisis in Nigeria, and minimum wage negotiations are a source of widespread conflict. The wrong sequencing of reforms is taking its toll on output. Nigerians and Nigeria need new borrowing to refinance existing obligations, and policy changes, institutional reforms, and new borrowings are expected to lead to positive and faster growth from 2025 to 2026.
“The economic weakness is partly structural and mostly exogenous. Exogenous means from outside, while structural means fundamental. The structural challenges include rent-seeking, market structure issues, energy crunch (4,000 MW), regulatory bottlenecks, declining labour productivity, and demographic pressures including urbanization.
“Exogenous shocks include COVID-19 disruptions, post-COVID global supply chain disruptions, political tensions, high global interest rates, transit developments, the cost of living crisis, wage agitation, and social unrest,” Rewane said.
The economist also reviewed President Bola Tinubu’s promises, policies, and announcements a year after his assumption in office.
“The first promise President Tinubu made was to increase GDP to $1 trillion in eight years. Before then, our GDP was almost $400 billion, so he aimed to double it in eight years.
“He removed petroleum subsidies, unified exchange rates, promised to overhaul the security infrastructure, and also promised to double power generation from 5,000 MW to 10,000 MW in 5 years, which means an increase of 1,250 MW every year.
“Additionally, he promised to bring inflation under control. These were the promises, policies, and announcements.”
The Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) comprises distinguished leaders and key government officials, with President Tinubu serving as Chairman of the PECC. https://punchng.com/first-anniversary-ghana-is-now-richer-than-nigeria-says-bismark-rewane/
