Culture › Oluwo Under Fire For Exposing Head In Mecca by Morbeta11(op): 9:24pm On Jun 15, 2024
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, recently came under fire for opening his head while praying for peace of mind, long life, and mercy for himself during his stay in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

In a video he posted on social media, his head was uncovered, and that attracted mixed reactions, because it is customary for a Yoruba king to always cover his head, especially when in public.

One of his followers, fabricsbyarinola wrote, “I thought (a) king must not open their head in public?”

Acube321 wrote, “Kabiesi oooo, sir you are not supposed to open your head. You can’t be the custodian of Yoruba culture and still worship in the Arab way. This is intriguing. You are demeaning our culture, sir. This is too bad sir.”

Meanwhile, some others saw nothing wrong with the Iwo king’s action. Nadee_a_kitchen_treat wrote, “See my hometown king. Everybody is equal in the presence of Almighty Allah. Islam is beautiful. May Almighty Allah accept your worship.”

Fasasiwakeel also wrote, “I am moved emotionally by the way he was praising the King of Kings. May the Almighty Allah answer your prayers.”

Meanwhile, the Oluwo was also criticised for a particular prayer he said. In another video he posted on social media, he prayed that just as millions of Muslims all over the world visit Makkah in pilgrimage, people should have not rest until they visit Iwo.

Some of the people who criticised him asked what structures were in place in Iwo that would attract visitors from around the world.

Crime › Texas Pastor Whitney Foster Sentenced To 35 Years For Stealing Churches by Morbeta11(op): 3:08am On Jun 15, 2024
Pastor sentenced to 35 years for stealing churches

. Foster purchased one church for $10
. Foster was previously convicted of identity theft and arson
. The jury heard evidence of seven similar EDT

(NewsNation) — A Texas pastor has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after a jury convicted him of stealing three churches valued at more than $800,000.

Whitney Foster, 56, the pastor at the True Foundation nondenominational church in Dallas, was sentenced after he was convicted of theft of property involving three local churches, Dallas County prosecutors announced.

Foster was the pastor of a small congregation that did not have a physical place to meet. Foster was accused of stealing real estate from three local churches after prosecutors said he filed fraudulent property deeds, listing a fake pastor or other church officials of the congregations from which he was found guilty of stealing property, officials said.

On the deed documents, he listed his church as the grantee in his own name. The value of the three properties totaled more than $800,000, prosecutors said.

The First Christian Church in Lancaster, Texas, Canada Drive Christian Church and Church at Ninevah were listed as the three churches that had property stolen, prosecutors said. Two of the three churches are still listed in Foster’s name.

Prosecutors said that Foster’s congregation was still meeting at one of the properties and that the third property remains embroiled in legal complications because of the pastor’s actions.

“Stealing real estate is an incredibly serious and damaging crime,” John Creuzot, Dallas County criminal district attorney, said in a statement Monday. “It’s worse than the theft of someone’s vehicle or other possessions. When someone steals property, we must hold them accountable because they are hurting people.”

The jury was presented evidence of seven additional fraudulent acts in addition to the three of which Foster was convicted. Foster was previously convicted of identity theft and arson, prosecutors announced.

“Property ownership is a bedrock of our society – it provides security, a home, a place to love and welcome each other,” Dallas County prosecutor Phillip Clark said. “It also represents a very active part of our economy, both in terms of buying, selling, and renting property, as well as property taxes that support everything our government does for the citizens of Dallas County.”

In 2021, the pastor of the Lancaster, Texas, church learned that the congregation no longer owned the building after it was deeded to another person for $10, a Dallas television station reported.

The property, valued at $700,000 at the time, was signed over to someone else after someone claiming to be the chairman of the church deeded the building over to a non-church member for $10.

At the time, Foster told the television station that he believed the church building to be vacant.

“You can acquire a property for $10 with nonprofits,” Foster told the local news station. “The church is community property. … It wasn’t Whitney buying it. Our church was getting it. I was fixing to open up a church there.”

Clark said that the area has seen an uptick in deed fraud cases in the country in recent years.

“Deed fraud cases are not simply disputes; they are lies and fraud – they are theft – and they are deeply damaging. I’m so grateful that the jury saw the truth in this case and held the defendant to account.”

Business › Mafia Tried Several Times To Sabotage $19 Billion Refinery — Dangote by Morbeta11(op): 8:39pm On Jun 13, 2024
Mafia tried several times to sabotage $19bn refinery — Dangote

Aliko Dangote has revealed that local and foreign mafia tried several times to sabotage his $19 billion refinery from coming to life.

Dangote made this revelation while speaking at the Afreximbank annual meetings (AAN) and AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in Nassau, The Bahamas, on Wednesday.

Dangote, Africa’s richest man, said he had repaid about $2.4 billion of the $5.5 billion borrowed to build the refinery.

Sabotage
According to him, several entities did everything to sabotage the 650,000 barrels per day facility.

Dangote said he was aware that resistance would always exist, but he did not anticipate it being so harsh.

He said: “Well, I knew that there would be a fight. But I didn’t know that the mafia in oil; they are stronger than the mafia in drugs. I can tell you that. Yes, it’s a fact.

“The local and foreign mafia tried several times to sabotage the refinery from coming to fruition.”

The businessman, who tagged himself a fighter throughout his life, said the mafias had tried several times to defeat him.

“But I’m a person that has been fighting all my life, you know. So I think it’s part of my life to fight,” he added.

On if he was receiving enough crude oil as feedstock for his refinery from the international oil companies (IOCs), Dangote said: “In a system where for 35 years people are used to counting good money, and all of a sudden they see that the days of counting that money have come to an end, you don’t expect them to pray for you.

“Of course, you expect them to fight back.

Dangote Cement export increased by 87.2 percent at 264kt in first quarter
“And I think that is the process that we’re now really going through. But the truth is that, yes, the country, the sub-region, and also the continent, sub-Saharan Africa, need this refinery.

“So, you expect them to fight through non-supply of crude, non-purchase of the product. But I think it’s all temporary. We’ll get there.”

If Tinubu Approves Minimum Wage Employers Can't Afford, Consequences Will Come Down On His Head, Not Mine, Says Governor Soludo
If Tinubu Approves Minimum Wage Employers Can't Afford, Consequences Will Come Down On His Head, Not Mine, Says Governor Soludo

Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), warned that if President Tinubu approves what employers cannot afford, the consequences will be on the President and not on him (Soludo).

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has warned President Bola Tinubu against approving what he described as unsustainable national minimum wage being demanded by the organised labour.

Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), warned that if President Tinubu approves what employers cannot afford, the consequences will be on the President and not on him (Soludo).

Whereas the Nigerian government has proposed N62,000 as the new national minimum wage, the organised labour has insisted on N250,000.

In his Democracy Day speech in Abuja on Wednesday, President Tinubu said an executive bill on the new national minimum wage would soon be sent to the National Assembly for passage.

But speaking at The Platform Nigeria, a programme organised by Lagos-based church, Covenant Nation, to mark the 2024 Democracy Day on Wednesday, Governor Soludo whose state is among those yet to implement the N30,000 national minimum wage, said that he would not bear the consequences of any unsustainable minimum wage approved by the President.

According to him, the private sector employs a huge percentage of the total workforce in the country and not all of them can pay the N62,000 proposed by the Federal Government.

Governor Soludo said, “The minimum wage thing, everybody is right. The worker is right to say, ‘What am I getting?’ Nobody is asking what does a worker do?

“We are not asking that question yet. All we are saying is: ‘How much does he need?’ He (the worker) is right, and for me, even if we pay N1 million, it’s not enough. But on the other hand, you have to come back to reality; talking about these MSMEs, the schools, churches, so on and so forth.

“You will have to pay your own driver. We are all in it. Whatever they agree, we will muddle through but maybe after one year, we will need to meet to discuss the consequences.

“I pity the President because it will all be on his head if the consequences come down, whatever it is, if whatever is negotiated is unsustainable or payable or whatever. Months to come, who will bear the responsibility? Not me.”

N80bn fraud: EFCC accuses colleagues, others of shielding Yahaya Bello

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, said ex-Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, who is accused of N80.2bn fraud, had ridiculed the Nigerian justice system by failing to present himself for trial in court.

The EFCC acting Zonal Director, Benin Zonal Command, Mr Effa Okim, stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Asaba, Delta State capital.

The EFCC is having a running legal battle with Bello over alleged N80.2bn fraud.

Following a failed attempt to arrest him and his repeated absence from court for his arraignment, the EFCC declared Bello wanted, while the Nigerian Immigration also placed the governor on a watchlist.

When asked on Wednesday why the EFCC had yet to arrest Bello weeks after he was declared wanted, an irate Okim claimed that the ex-governor was being shielded by the system.

“This is the last question I expected because the shame is on all of us. Is that a question I should answer alone? It’s not me, it is the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the EFCC zonal director said.

“That politically-exposed Yahaya Bello, whose crime has been traced to him by allegation and has been invited by EFCC to come and explain, and for months he is acting drama and we are all here wanting to ask questions! The shame is our own shame!

“Can’t we catch him? We can, but do we go all out to catch him? Do we need to do that when he has his masters? Can’t they call him and tell him, ‘You are disgracing Nigeria’? What are you telling the world? Tell him to go and explain himself like others have done.

“Where are the ministers? Where are Yahaya Bello’s colleagues, even in his hiding? So, Nigerians can’t tell him ‘This is not fair, go and report; they are not going to kill you’? But people are still eating and dining with him.”

Okim said beyond legality, there was a moral aspect of the case.

“Where has morality gone before legality that we can’t summon that man and tell him to go and report himself to the EFCC? Some persons are writing, supporting him, while some are criticizing the commission.

“The problem is our own problem that borders on Nigeria’s image. Our children are watching their parents behave like children.

“To me, the truth has vanished. Even in Animal Farm, this will not happen, that a man who was part of the system that was a custodian of our culture, rules and laws can behave like this and you are asking questions.

“The media should come out for the first time to harmonise, criticise that action and forget about prosecution but tell him to make himself available; thereafter we know what to do.”

Okim said the criminal justice system had been ridiculed by the actions of Bello, “And because we respect the law, we want to go by the process, we are inhibited that does not make us weak.”

The Chairman, NUJ Delta State Council, Churchill Oyowe, assured the commission the support of journalists in the state.

Politics › Nigerian Passports To Get Global Respect With ICAO PKD Integration, Says FG by Morbeta11(op): 8:11am On Jun 12, 2024
Nigerian passports to get global respect with ICAO PKD integration, says FG

The Federal Government has hinted that Nigerian passports will henceforth be respected at foreign borders after being integrated into the International Civil Aviation Organisation Public Key Directory and Public Key Infrastructure.

The FG made this known through the Ministry of Interior on the X platform on Tuesday while replying to a tweet by a travel content creator, Tayo Aina.

On Monday, Aina made a promotional video for a St. Kitts passport that he got for $150,000, allaying fears about exploring the world with his Nigerian passport.

However, his claim in the video elicited backlash from netizens who scolded him for talking down on Nigeria’s passport to promote a less-known country’s passport.

A few hours later, the travel content creator quoted the video apologising for his previous take on the country’s passport.

He wrote, “I’m sorry, guys. I lied. With this passport, you’re not just a traveller; you’re a global citizen. It liberates you with visa-free access to over 149 countries, opening up a world of opportunities for you.

“Immigration officers around the globe respect it, and you will get VIP treatment once you present it at any airport worldwide. It’s priceless.”

Meanwhile, the handle of the Ministry of Interior quoted his tweet saying, “Nigerians will now enjoy a smoother and more secure travel experience as the Nigerian passport has been integrated into the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).

“The ICAO PKD and PKI systems ensure that the data embedded in electronic passports, such as biometric information, can be verified against trusted sources.

“This means that Nigerian passports can now be authenticated more efficiently at international borders, reducing delays and enhancing security,” it added.

Meanwhile, checks by our correspondent to reveal the country under the ICAO PKD member countries revealed Nigeria as one.

The benefits for the PKD member countries include enabling a simple, fast, and cost-efficient way of validating ePassports; multilateral data exchange is more efficient than bilateral diplomatic exchanges; your citizens will be more respected at foreign border check-points; the possibility of falsifying the document is diminished as the compromised or false chips are immediately detected; citizens with e-Passports can enjoy easier border crossings, among others.

Further checks also revealed that joining the PKD is a proactive approach to fighting international terrorism and organised crime.

Currently, the ICAO PKD has 61 member states worldwide, of which 30 are OSCE participating states and five are OSCE Partners for cooperation.

Aba hook-up saga: IG sets up panel to probe Ochekwo’s murder

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the monitoring unit to conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a businessman, Andrew Ochekwo, who was reportedly linked to the disappearance of two ladies, Celine Ndudim and Afiba Tandoh, in the Aba area of Abia State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, while confirming the development in a statement on Monday, said Egbetokun mandated the monitoring unit to complete the investigation in two weeks and present a report.

The statement read in part, “The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the monitoring unit to conduct a thorough and high-powered investigation into the suspected murder of one Andrew Ochekwo.

“This directive comes amid the numerous allegations, arguments, and counterarguments surrounding the case, which also involves the disappearance of two ladies, Celine and Afiba, after their trip to visit the said Andrew in Aba, Abia State, for which he was alleged to be responsible.

“In light of the public interest and the gravity of the allegations, the IGP has deemed it necessary to institute a meticulous investigation into the roles played by the team which carried out the initial investigation in Abia State, and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team, to unravel the veritable facts of the matter. The monitoring unit has been given a two-week timeframe to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report.”

Adejobi said Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the case would be handled with the utmost professionalism and integrity, urging all well-meaning members of the public and all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the investigation process to proceed without interference.

“Similarly, all persons/groups with relevant information regarding this case are encouraged to come forward and assist with the investigation, and all such information provided will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality. You can reach us via email at pressforabuja@police.gov.ng or our social media accounts.

“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation and support of the public and hereby reassures that timely updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Adejobi added.

Politics › I’m Being Sidelined In My Constituency, Kingibe Cries Out by Morbeta11(op): 10:20pm On Jun 11, 2024

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, has again cried out that she is being marginalised in the Senate Committee on issues concerning her constituency.

Kingibe made this known at the Plenary on Tuesday during the consideration of the 2024 N98.5bn Supplementary budget of the FCT.

Kingibe, coming under 10 and 11, stated that she is the highest elected person in the FCT, but she is, however, not carried along in the issues of the state.

Kindibe said, “Mr President, I am the highest elected person in the FCT with over four million people.

“I am not usually carried along in the issues that pertain to the FCT, especially the matters of budget.

“The FCT supplementary budget is presented today but I am not even aware of the whole procedure, I was not invited to any meeting where the budget was discussed.”

Kingibe was, however, interrupted by the Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, when he requested for her the motion.

Akpabio told her that the order she moved demanded that she present a motion and present it to the House.

The senators agreed that Kingibe would present the complaint in a motion tomorrow.

President Bola Tinubu had last week written to the Senate seeking a supplementary bill of N98.5bn for the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The N98.5bn is in addition to the N1.2tn budget passed in March by the National Assembly.

Business › Guinness Announces Plan To Leave Nigeria After 75 by Morbeta11(op): 6:17pm On Jun 11, 2024
Guinness announces plan to leave Nigeria after 75 years as Tinubu’s inflation wreaks economic havoc

Guinness will join a long list of multinationals, like GlaxoSmithKline and Microsoft, that have left Nigeria, citing the harsh economic climate as making business unprofitable.

After operating in Nigeria since 1950 and enduring a torrid economic climate on the back of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Guinness has announced it will exit the Nigerian market and sell off its controlling shares to Singaporean conglomerate Tolaram Group on Tuesday.

The brewery brand recorded a staggering N61.9 billion loss after tax between July 2023 and March 2024, just a few months after Mr Tinubu floated the naira in an effort to unify the currency’s value on the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.

But the move backfired and caused many multinational companies to suffer huge financial setbacks including Guinness Nigeria whose N61.7 billion loss after tax in Q3 was a 1,000 per cent decrease from the N5.9 billion profit generated in the same period last year.

The loss exacerbated by the naira’s continued downward trend may have informed Diageo, Guinness’ parent company, to sell its 58.02 per cent majority stake to the Singaporean group.

“Under the terms of an agreement signed today, 11 June 2024, Tolaram will acquire Diageo’s 58.02% shareholding in Guinness Nigeria royalty agreements for the continued production of the Guinness brand and its locally manufactured Diageo ready-to-drink and mainstream spirits brands,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.

Guinness Nigeria Plc, a public limited liability company quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, was incorporated on April 29, 1950, as a trading company importing Guinness Stout from Dublin.

The Guinness brand has operated in Nigeria since 1950, but with Tolaram’s controlling stake acquisition expected to conclude by 2025, the global brewery brand will have spent 75 years in Nigeria.

In the statement, Guinness said the firm would leave Nigeria next year and hand over to a third-party venture.

“The transaction is expected to be completed during fiscal 2025, subject to obtaining the requisite regulatory approvals in Nigeria,” said the statement signed by Abidemi Ademola, Guinness’s legal director.

Diageo, however, stated that the sale of its Nigerian brand would not in any way affect its ownership of the Guinness global brand.

Diageo “will retain ownership of the Guinness brand, which will be licensed to Guinness Nigeria for the long term.”

Diageo’s exit adds to a long list of other multinational companies, like GlaxoSmithKline and Microsoft, that have left Nigeria in the last one to two years, citing the harsh economic climate as making business unprofitable.

Some of Diageo’s popular brands in Nigeria include Smirnoff Ice, Smirnoff Vodka, Orijin Bitters, Malta Guinness, Gordons Orange Sunset, and Dubic Malt.

Politics › Military Flays Terrorists Over Mocking Video by Morbeta11(op): 8:34am On Jun 10, 2024
The Defence Headquarters has tackled some terrorists who recently claimed that its celebrated achievements were untrue.

The terrorists had in a viral video boasted that their leaders which the military claimed to have killed are still alive.

The terrorists also said those arrested by the military were innocent citizens.

The terrorists’ assertions came in response to the military’s claim that it killed over 9000 terrorists and 20 sect commanders, as well as arrested over 6,000 other bandits in the last one year.

However, speaking in an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, challenged the terrorists to provide concrete evidence that the reported deaths of their commanders are false.

He noted that the military had released the names of several terrorist Commanders and leaders killed during the ongoing operations across the country.

Buba added that the terrorists lacked integrity and made the viral video to launder their image based on depletion within their ranks.

He said, “The military has consistently released names of several terrorist Commanders and leaders killed as a result of ongoing operations across the country. Recall that we are dealing with vicious terrorists who kill innocent citizens unprovoked.

“These groups of people lack integrity and are merely desperate to save their image based on depletion within their ranks
. It is mere propaganda on the part of these terrorists. Accordingly, we challenge the terrorists to show evidence of terrorist leaders we killed, that they claim have not been killed.”

Commenting, a security expert, Lekan Jackson-Ojo described the action by the terrorists as “self-consolation”, adding that their assertions were to impress their sponsors.

He said, “If you have studied terrorist activities very well you will understand that they thrive on publicity and they do that through spreading propaganda. With what they have done, it is obvious that they are not comfortable with the ongoing operations of the military. What they are doing is called self-consolation.

Another security expert, Nnamdi Chife, said the terrorists were only trying to weaken the actions taken against them by the government and security forces.

He said, “The government and the security forces have recorded some achievements against the terrorists, I believe they are trying to deflate these actions that have been taken against them.”

ISWAP Terror Group Holds Public Meetings With Borno Residents To Recruit New Members, Stresses Plan To Have Separate Islamic Country

Militants belonging to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād have organised da‘wāt in some villages in Borno, SaharaReporters has gathered.

Da‘wāt is the act of inviting or calling people to embrace Islam.

In pictures released by ISWAP, sect members were seen publicly engaging with residents of the state around Lake Chad.

The images may be part of the sect’s efforts to counter statements by the Nigerian military that the Islamist insurgent fighters were on a steady retreat, with troops seizing a sizeable territory hitherto occupied and controlled by members of the terrorist sect.

SaharaReporters gathered that during the Da’wat programme, the insurgents appealed to villagers to join the group as militants and support their cause to establish an Islamic caliphate.

They assured them of good governance, better security and basic amenities as soon as they had a new country.

The group also distributed welfare packages to many households in a new recruitment drive.

Packages said to have been distributed by ISWAP included rice, beans, millet, maize, sugar, spaghetti and cash gifts.

A 2019 report by the International Crisis Group, a non-profit think tank, observed that ISWAP’s approach to recruiting new fighters proved effective.

Despite breaking away from the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction in 2016, the population of its fighters had increased, according to estimates.

“Although its leadership has been largely ethnic Kanuri, ISWAP has recruited significantly among lacustrine communities, notably the ethnic Buduma, many of whom earn a living from fishing,” the group wrote.

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) has made similar observations.

“As part of this approach, the ideological aspect of the crisis must be dealt with. The ability of the group to recruit is one of the biggest reasons for its expansion, and so a deeper understanding of its recruitment patterns and operating mechanisms is crucial,” ISS senior researcher Remadji Hoinathy warned in May 2019.

Often ISWAP exploits gaps in governance by trying to prove that it can provide essential services in the areas under its control.

There are indications that Nigerian Afropop R&B stars, Peter and Paul Okoye and their elder brother; music executive Jude Okoye are at loggerheads over financial mismanagement of the family’s investment and royalties.

Trouble allegedly began when a company was said to have offered to buy the Okoye brother’s music catalog and therefore requested financial transparency and account statements of the property.

One of the twin brothers Peter, Mr P’s investigation led to a revelation that their elder brother, Jude who oversees their company Northside Entertainment had been allegedly diverting funds to a new company with his wife as a director.

The anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC was said to have been involved in the dispute which led to the alleged detention of Jude in their custody.

It however took the timely intervention of the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick who
signed the bail bond for his release.

Family › Hetty Green: The Most Stingy Woman In History by Morbeta11(op): 11:02am On Jun 09, 2024
Hetty Green...The most stingy woman in history, her wealth is estimated at more than $2.3 billion. Hetty Greene was born in America in 1835. She was the only daughter of a wealthy businessman.

She inherited from her father a fortune estimated at $7.5 million. When she was twenty-one years old, she moved to live in New York to invest her money in Wall Street and was called the Wicked Witch of Wall Street.

She married a millionaire like herself, but still lived on leftover cakes and broken biscuits in grocery stores and argued to get a free bone for her dog every day!! Hetty Greene was a very miserable woman. She sewed underpants when she was 16 years old and did not change them or buy others until the day of her death.

She never spent a penny, so it was said that she never used hot water, that she wore a black dress that she did not change until it was completely worn out, and that she lived on eating a pie that cost only two cents.

Hetty caused her son to amputate his leg because when he broke it, she delayed treating it because she insisted not to She spent no money and kept looking for free medical attention.

Hetty Greene died in 1916 at the age of 81 in New York City, and was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “most stingy person in the world.”

The cause of her death was a stroke due to a quarrel with her maid because the maid asked for an increase in her meager salary.

She died and left behind a huge fortune, and her children did not inherit her extreme stinginess, but rather they were generous to the point that her daughter built a free hospital with her money!! ☕️

Politics › Drug Barons Are Not As Bad As Human Traffickers, Says Abike Dabiri by Morbeta11(op): 7:01am On Jun 09, 2024
Drug barons are not as bad as human traffickers, says Tinubu’s appointee Abike Dabiri

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said that traffickers needed to be named and shamed.

Chairperson, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said human trafffickers are worse than drug barons.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa condemned human traffickers, advocating for them to be “named and shamed.”

“Honestly. The traffickers need to be named and shamed,” Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said on Saturday, a day after she posted a video of some Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.

She stated, “They (Human traffickers) are worse than drug barons!! And as long as they are walking about freely, innocent young children will continue to be trafficked!”

One of her followers on X, @idealist90, disagreed with her, saying “Traffickers are not worse than drug barons. Both are not different. If you support a drug baron, you are not different from a trafficker himself.”

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa serves in the government of President Bola Tinubu, embroiled in a cocaine trafficking scandal that saw him forfeit $460,000 to the U.S. government in the 90s.

Mr Tinubu’s drug trafficking case re-emerged shortly after he declared interest to contest the presidency in 2022.

In 2022, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois released fresh documents on Mr Tinubu’s encounter with American authorities over allegations of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
