Pavore9:

l did mention horticulture on the first page, living in Nairobi and seeing what is going on, l swore never to have anything to do with cassava farming, let those who are in love with it continue! Coming to flowers, Kenya and Kenyans are reaping it big from flower export as every night different airlines air-freights flowers to Europe for sale the next morning as 70% of roses sold in European Supermarkets are from Kenya. Most
painful is that Nigerians import those same flowers from Europe!

Anyone that tells me that their weather favours flower growing more than Nigeria is high on fermented plantain root (l have drank it grin). Our weather distribution is vast just like Kenya's. Their Northern part is just like ours dry and dusty though there are places as cold like Scotland.l could liken Nairobi's weather to that of the Middle-belt. We just lack the will and capacity to be involved in it.

l would rather do vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, carrots, French beans, Eggplants etc as these crop accrue more income at a shorter time frame than the traditional cassava we are used to though there are also profit in it but the market structure does not favour the farmer who spent many months on the farm but individuals who are involved after it leaves the farm.

This links can give anyone an idea of what l am talking about.

Click on the picture of the desired crop and read the details.
I am not aware of a market for flowers as the only thing available are those road side gardens in Abuja who only make money from horticultural contracts which is hard to find.
pls enlightenment is needed dearly

It don't mean to sentimental or tribalistic but people from the south south that produces the oil are suffering and when we agitated through militancy is when we had any form of bargaining power as all the regions of Nigeria wants to make money from us without at least taking care of the place that feed

I won't be surprised if boko haram is a by product of northern oligarchs who are not happy with the way things are because it does not suit their selfish needs because they have not even one(1) plausible reason for killing. If not how can a country that is a major oil producer not have a gigantic saving made from all the years of oil boom. I know our president has seen this evil and that is why if you put your ears to ground you will discover major oil deal are very difficult and tricky to perform because unlike during those day where you see illiterate alhaji going down to south and robbing Nigeria clean with only a Pen and Paper in the name of allocation.

I am an advocate of strict federalism wherby all region natural resources are exploited equally with a percentage given to the centre a fund be established to explore other resources in every region.

Goodluck Jonathan I beg you with all the good things on earth pls ensure the Petroleum industry Bill is signed into by lastest the 3rd month of your second tenure even if it means bribing those good for nothing legislooters so our Naira won't be a useless paper

SAY YES TO STRICT FEDERALISM

The embarrassment we faced today in the presidential media chat will remain tenaciously indelible in the history of Nigeria. The ruler of the giant of Africa did not display giantism in both his speech and sagacity. Questions thrown at him by the panelists begged for better answers as the president could not boast of impressing himself let alone the entire national and international audience. He forced an escapist smile at questions like "How did you feel when your kinsmen threatened to wage war on Nigeria if you fail the election"? " Do you have confidence in Jega that he will conduct free and fair election"? "Chibok girls: How far"? "You once remarked that stealing is not corruption. Expatiate". I am sure that those who watched the chat saw the disappointing semblance on the faces of the journalists who gave him baptism of fire. Though some people may argue that the questions were moderated, but they still
exposed the vocal ineptitude and intellectual paucity of the president. You hardly get moved by his speech due to its insipidity. In short, those vital questions that required informed and cogent responses will never forgive him for leaving them unattended to.
The fact that Jega and the electoral commissioners were appointees of the president, does not mean they must dance to his tunes. The question was logical trying to put words on the mouth of the president regarding the allegation that the ruling party wants the election rigged in its favour. And the other question on the Niger Delta militant would have placed the government on better pedestal had he told us that Asari Dokubo and his associates who issued the threat are now behind bars. As for Buhari, he first said the question was not fair to him before he later attempted to make amends. An Obama or Cameron would eulogize the sterling virtues of their opponent and at the end tell you they can also fare better. God save Nigeria.

You talked about launching projectiles - which is what the fools at Bauchi and Katsina did. Al Zaidi launched not one, but two. If your thesis was right he would have had it. Saying the Secret Service had no clean shot is speculative, even disingenuous. Western leaders have had things thrown at them. The only leader I can recall now who had those who threw stones at his convoy shot was a mad African dictator.

Forgive my tribalism but i noticed most notherners that support mohammadu buhari tend have certain kind of herd mentality and are very narrow minded when it come to Gmb because they bring his past achievement as valid point but when issues about his massively flawed past arises they resort to anonymousity, name calling and the worst case scenario violence. People claim he has experience in handling corruption which i find untrue because the corruption is simply breach of laid down procedure to favour on self of which buhari has a strong track of disobedience to law that is supposed to help him govern
buhari's handlers are top election campaign managers for powerful world leaders who never shy away from debates and wether rigged debates are mainly about dissecting your manifesto to the public because debate wont ask about your personal life but rather your plans and how effective would it be to help Nigeria.
In my honest opinion GMB is a coward who hides behind people achievement and any honest and sane Nigeria knows that idiagbhon ran Nigeria for buhari because he has no plans of his own

Health / FG Confirms Fresh Bird Flu Cases In Lagos, Kano, Delta, Ogun, Rivers by Mordyb: 9:00am On Jan 22, 2015
Agriculture and Rural Development have raised alarm over the outbreak of avian influenza otherwise known as bird flu in some poultries in Kano and Lagos states.

According to the ministry, the disease was discovered following the unusual high mortality reported in two poultry farms and live bird markets in Kano and Lagos states.

A statement signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina disclosed that samples taken from the birds were forwarded to National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom Plateau State, where it tested positive for H5 Strain of Avian Influenza Virus.

The minister said the confirmatory samples have been sent to the International Reference Laboratory in Padova, Italy, for further characterisation.

Addressing a press conference on the development yesterday, the Lagos State Government said about 2,000 infected birds had already been killed in a poultry farm in Badore area of the state

The government said that the birds were killed during intensive surveillance, which has been mounted in all major poultry farms in the state to prevent spread of the deadly disease.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperative, Gbolahan Lawal, did not disclose the name of the poultry farm for security reasons but said the entire farm had been quarantined.

According to Lawal, samples collected from a poultry farm in Badore were also confirmed positive while a Zoological park based in Victoria Garden City presently experiencing high mortality of wild birds in captivity is on the suspicion list and is being investigated.

He added that in order to contain the spread of the infection, the government has embarked on active Diseases Search by surveillance agents, Biosecurity Monitoring and Sensitisation in poultry farms and markets, disinfection of poultry markets and decontamination of affected farms and sensitisation of poultry farmers and traders on insurance policy issues. “A team of eight technical staff, comprising of representatives of the Federal Livestock Department, National Quarantine Service and the National Veterinary Research Institute is currently in the state on disease assessment and surveillance,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that the emergency active disease search carried out in the last 48 hours indicated no spread of the disease, adding that in order to contain the spread, the active disease search is ongoing in farms and poultry markets.

“Sensitisation of poultry farmers and fowl sellers is being vigorously embarked on by the Surveillance and Extension Agents deployed by the ministry to cover the entire state. Disinfection of all live bird markets in the state is already ongoing.

“All poultry farmers and fowl sellers are hereby enjoined to adhere strictly to biosecurity measures and report unusual incidence of high mortalities of birds. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Health have deployed surveillance agents to the various parts of the state,” Lawal said.

Nairaland / General / ISIS Killers Butcher 13 Football Fans For Watching Iraq Play by Mordyb: 6:50pm On Jan 21, 2015
ISIS militants have executed 13 teenage boys for watching the Asian Cup football match between Iraq and Jordan last week.
The young football fans had been caught watching the game on television in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which is controlled by the Islamic State.
The teenagers were rounded up and publicly executed by a firing squad using machine guns, anti-ISIS activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently reports. They said the 13 teenagers were rounded up by ISIS militants in the Al-Yarmouk district of Mosul, and executed in public.
The boys' 'crime' - breaking religious laws by watching football - was read out on a loudspeaker before their executions.
The news of the horrifying execution of the teenagers comes just days after ISIS released a video showing two men being thrown off the top of a tower block in Mosul.
Charges found against the accused were announced by a masked Islamic State fighter, using a small handheld radio.
Reading from a list, he declares the men are guilty of engaging in homosexual activities and should be punished by death, in accordance with Islamic State's radical interpretation of Sharia law.
The Iraq-Jordan Asian Cup game, which took place in Brisbane, Australia last Monday, saw midfielder Yaser Kasim, who plays for Swindon Town in the third tier of English football, give Iraq a 1-0 win.

What are d things in igbo traditional list that people shout is expensive ? Goat, hen, kolanut, palmwine, beers, malts, hot drink, in some cases wrapper.

With 100k to 200k u can get all those items, compare to yoruba owambe wia u kill cow, cook rice, amala, ewedu, drinks, canopy, fuji musician, dj etc box full of gifts from Which she picks one, plus other marriage items.
nah I don't think any Yoruba wedding will be more expensive than a rivers wedding based on my personal experience especially in the wrapper department I saw some that were worth 200k on a wedding list depending on the family you marry into and most women even my grandma has those hi grade and they will it was gotten from the traditional rights
