Food / Food Allergy And Food Intolerance Part 2 by mosesdejaviano(m): 12:44pm On May 09, 2020
Many confuse food allergy and food intolerance. It is very common to confuse food allergy with food intolerance.

These are the major differences between food allergy and food intolerance;

Food allergy can be severe or life threatening while food intolerance are generally less serious.

It doesn't lead to a life threatening reactions.

In food intolerance, food causing intolerances can be eaten in small amounts without causing any problems while in food allergy, even consuming the smallest portion of the food causing the adverse reaction can trigger the allergic reaction.

Food intolerances are more common compared to food allergy.

Food intolerances usually have to do with the digestive system while food allergy has to do with the immune system of an individual.

We have different types of food intolerances, which are;

Lactose Intolerance: This is caused by a shortage of lactase enzymes which is needed in proper digestion of lactose and this results in digestive disorder symptoms.

Gluten Intolerance: Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale. When an individual doesnt have bacterial proteases to further digest gliadin, it results into gluten intolerances.

Caffeine Intolerance: This is associated with a reduced ability to metabolize and excrete caffeine. So also it is hereditary.

Salicylate Intolerance: Salicylates are naturally occurring chemicals in plants which serve as a defensive mechanism against environmental invaders such as insects and diseases. Some people develop unpleasant reactions after taking or consuming portion of it in a food substance.

Amine Intolerance: Amine are present in a wide variety of food. They are manufactured by bacteria during food storage and fermentation. Those people who are intolerant of it shows symptoms after consuming it. An example is histamine intolerance, which comes as a result of an impairment in the enzymes necessary for breaking down histamine. These enzymes are (histamine-diamine oxidase and N-methyl transferase).

Sulfites Intolerance: Sulfites are chemicals used as preservatives for foods, drinks and some medications. They assist in preventing browning and delay the process of spoilage or decay in food. Sulfites intolerance are mostly associated with people living with asthma.

Fructose Intolerance: When fructose is not readily absorbed into the blood but it is fermented by gut bacteria living in the large intestine which results into digestive disorders.

FODMAPS Intolerance: FODMAPS are fermentable Oligo-di, monosaccharides and polyols. They are useful in the large intestine as fuel by the gut bacteria. Though they are not readily absorbed in the small intestine. Its intolerances may come with bloating.

Others are;
Aspartame Intolerance: This has to do with aspartame.

Egg Intolerance : This has to do with the intolerance that stems up from consumption of egg whites.

Monosodium Glutamate: Monosodium is a flavour enhancing additives in food.

Food colourings Intolerance: This has to do with various food colourings.

General symptoms of food intolerance are; nausea, bloating, diarrhoea, belching, heartburn, indigestion, vomiting, flatulence, fatigue or irritability, skin rashes and itching.

The dietary management of food allergy and food intolerance are as follows;

Always ensure to keep a diary of the foods you eat and the smptoms you have when eating those food.

You should stop eating some foods to help you in tracing out which of the food is triggering reactions.

For enzyme related food intolerances e.g lactose intolerance, take the needed enzyme supplement or the food-free products.

Always ensure you read food labels and look out for ingredients that cause reactions. Also look out for condiments and seasoning.

Eliminate or remove foods that causes allergies in your diet.

Whenever you eat outside your home, always ensure you ask the person that attends to you about the way the meal will be prepared.

Food / Food Allergy And Food Intolerance Part 1 by mosesdejaviano(m): 4:24am On May 02, 2020
Before we talk about food allergy, we need to know what allergy is?

Allergy is a condition or a reaction that occurs when your body's natural defensive mechanism overreact to invasion of a particular substance and the body seeing such invader as an harmful substance thereby sending out antibodies to defend against it.

Substances causing or triggering allergy are called allergens. When we talk about food allergy, food allergy is an unpleasant immune reaction after a certain food is eaten. The body sees such substance as harmful so the body releases antibodies to fight it off.

Such food substances are usually protein. The body releases chemicals such as histamine and immunoglobulin E.

The cause of food allergies is idiopathic. In most cases of food allergies, children are mostly affected compared to adults. It is seen that food allergies encountered by children are mostly resolved when they reach adulthood.

The consumption of even the smallest amount of the allergy causing food can trigger the symptoms. Many people do not know the difference between food intolerance and food allergy.

Food intolerance on the other hand does not involve the immune system. Food intolerance is an after reaction that occurs after an individual consumes or eats a particular food substance. Such reaction does not stem up from immune system reaction.

Symptoms of food allergy include; tingling, itching in the mouth, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, lightheadedness, constant cough, troubled breathing, nasal blockage, wheezing, eczema, swelling of the upper part of the body and other parts of the body.

Food allergy may come with a life threatening reaction known as Anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis comes with symptoms such as; tightening of the airways, swollen throat or the feeling of a lump along the throat, shock with severe drop in blood pressure, loss of consciousness, dizziness etc. If untreated it may lead to coma or even death.

Types of Food Allergy
- Pollen-Food Allergy Syndrome: This affect those who consume certain fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices. The proteins found in certain pollens causing allergy are similar to some proteins in certain fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices.

These causes allergic reactions in some people. Examples of fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices include Apple, carrot, pear, almond, some herbs, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, black pepper, melons, bananas, watermelons etc.

- Exercise Induced Food Allergy: Some people have allergic reaction that has to do with after eating certain foods they begin to feel itchy and lightheaded soon after starting to exercise.

Food allergens include the following; eggs, fish, peanuts, milk, wheat, soy, tomatoes, pork, corn, citrus fruit, chocolate, shellfish, treenuts, legumes and strawberries.

Food / Cooking Vegetables : The Best Nutrition Practices by mosesdejaviano(m): 7:27am On Apr 21, 2020
Cooking Vegetables : The Best Nutrition Practices

Vegetable is part of our diet which we consume every day. People consume vegetable day to day, but as vegetable is been consumed day to day, many do not know the best nutritious way to cook or prepare their vegetables.

Vegetable contains the following:

1. Vitamin A - Which keeps the eye healthy and makes the skin healthy.
2 Vitamin C - It helps to heal cuts and wounds.
It keeps teeth and gums healthy.
It aids the absorption of iron in the body.
It also boosts the immune system of the body.
3. Fiber - It helps to reduce constipation
It helps to reduce blood cholesterol.
It aids proper bowel movement
4. Folic Acid - It helps in the formation of red blood cells.
It reduces neural tube defects and spina bifida during fetal development.
5. Potassium - It helps in maintaining healthy blood pressure.
6. Antioxidants - Which reduces oxidative stress in the body.
7. Phytochemicals - Such as beta-carotenes
8. It is low in fat and calories
9. It has no cholesterol.
10. It has been researched that vegetable may reduce the occurrence or incidence of heart disease and stroke.
11. Also it may protect against certain types of cancers.

When we look at how people prepare vegetables nowadays, it could be seen that many people do not know the best way to do it.

These are the best nutrition practices in preparing your vegetables:

a. Do Not Blanch Your Vegetable - Many times people add hot water to their vegetable and leave for long period of time. The nutrients inside the vegetable is leaked into the hot water. Most times, this vegetable is squeezed and the water turned away. The nutrient inside the vegetable which has been leaked into the water is thereby poured away.

Vitamin C and Vitamin B's which are water soluble vitamins are much readily dissolved into the water. So blanching causes loss of nutrients.

What you can do - You can steam the vegetable for 2 minutes to 3 minutes then add the vegetable to your sauce. There is no need of adding water to it.

b. Before shredding your vegetable, ensure that you wash your vegetable thoroughly before shredding. Washing of vegetable after shredding may result to loss of some water soluble vitamins.

What to do - Wash your vegetable thoroughly, then shred or slice your vegetable thereafter and cook afterwards.

c. Do not cook your vegetables or leave your vegetables on fire for a long period of time. The average time of cooking vegetable should not exceed 4 minutes to 6 minutes. Heat destroys and denatures some nutrients inside vegetable.

Food / Covid-19 : Use Of Hot/warm Water (facts And Myth) by mosesdejaviano(m): 5:18pm On Apr 10, 2020
COVID-19 : USE OF DRINKING HOT/WARM WATER.
(FACT AND MYTH)

QUESTIONS:

Does COVID-19 stay in the human throat?
Does water wash COVID-19 down the throat?
Can drinking of hot/warm water kill COVID-19?
Will drinking hot/warm water with ginger, garlic or lemon prevent COVID-19?
What are the benefits of drinking hot/warm water?

Recently there had been lots of messages flying on the social media about the use of drinking hot water to wash down the COVID-19 down the throat to the stomach where it will be destroyed by the acids in stomach.

There are some insinuations that the COVID-19 cannot survive in heat so because of this, when an individual that has the virus drinks hot water, the hot water will kill the virus.

Some even put it that, taking hot water for up to three to four days will kill the virus in the throat.

In light of this, it is pertinent to bring out the facts so that people won't live in ignorance.

There are questions that will be raised concerning this issue so that people will be enlightened and answers will be given to the questions.

Does COVID-19 stay in the human throat?

There is no scientific research that shows that COVID-19 stays in the human throat. COVID-19 enters through the mouth and nose. When the virus enters the body, what it does is that it binds with the cells in the lungs such as the goblet cells and cilia cells.

These are cells which produce mucus and prevent the filling up of the lungs with fluid and particles. The virus attacks the goblet and cilia cells to make them weak and vulnerable which makes the lungs to begin to be filled with fluid. And when the lungs is filled with fluid, it makes it difficult for an individual to breathe properly.

Does water wash COVID-19 down the throat?

Since COVID-19 doesn't stay in the throat. There is no scientific research that shows water can wash the virus down. This is a false information flying in the social media. The false information says the virus stays for three to four days in the throat and can be washed down with water through the oesophagus to the stomach.

Like i said earlier, there are no scientific proofs to these claims. So the answer is water(either hot/warm) doesn't wash COVID-19 down the throat.

Can drinking hot/warm water kill COVID-19?

Though drinking hot/warm water may have other health benefits. But there is no scientific evidence which shows that drinking hot/warm water can kill COVID-19.

In the case of SARS-COV-2 and MERS-COV-12 which are in the same coronavirus family such as COVID-19. There is no scientific research that shows drinking hot water will offer protection against the infection of SARS-COV-2 and MERS-COV-12.

Will drinking hot/warm water with ginger, garlic or lemon prevent COVID-19?

There is no scientific proof that drinking hot/warm water with ginger, garlic, or lemon prevent COVID-19.

Though there are other health benefits of drinking hot/warm water with ginger, garlic or lemon.

What are the benefits of drinking warm/hot water?

The normal body temperature range is between 36.50C - 37.50C (97.7F - 99.5F). So there is need for the body to maintain a constant body temperature. That is why those living in extreme cold regions need to ensure that their body doesn't drop below the average body temperature.

Drinking of hot/warm water helps the body in the following areas such as;
- aiding digestion,
- relieves nasal congestion,
- calms central nervous system,
- relieves constipation,
- keeps you hydrated,
- can help in weight loss,
- improves blood circulation,
- helps decrease stress levels,
- helps reduce toxins,
- relieves symptoms of achalasia (which is a condition during which your oesophagus has trouble moving food down into the stomach),
- prevents premature aging,
- prevents acne and pimples,
- aids healthy hair and vitality.
It is even advisable that warm /hot water should be taken early in the morning.

CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19)
NUTRITIONAL MANAGEMENT

Though COVID-19 is a new virus from the CORONAVIRUS family. Clinical Studies have shown that the immune system of an healthy person was able to fight the virus within days.

It has been discovered that there was a complete immune response across all cell types necessary for building immune system for recovery of an infected patient.

Looking at SARS-COV-2 and MERS-COV-12 both belonging to the same family of CORONAVIRIDAE with COVID-19. It has been seen that host immune response to these viruses is in a similar pattern.

It is found that at the onset of these viruses, the body tends to increase the production of IMMUNOGLOBULIN G and IMMUNOGLOBULIN M (common types of antibodies that fights the viruses).

Also some specialised helper T cells, killer T cells and B cells which are important immune cells to fight these viruses are activated during the days which these viruses stays in the host body. This shows that the patients body has a natural way of fighting the virus.

Elderly who have existing or underlying medical conditions tends to die from COVID-19 compared to children because their immune system have been compromised.

In the light of this, it is established that the immune system of the body is crucial in fighting the virus in the body.

Nutritionally, there are foods that can be eaten in this period of the scourge of these viruses that can help to build the immune system of the body. These are;

1 Vitamin C containing fruits
Example Citrus Fruits (grapefruits, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes and clementines).
Spinach (beta carotene with antioxidant is also present).
Pawpaw
Red Bell Peppers
Watermelon
Broccoli (vitamin A and E is also present).
Kiwi (vitamin K is also present).
Pawpaw
2 Garlic (allicin an immune boosting property in garlic)
3 Wheat germ foods
4 Ginger
5 Yoghurts (vitamin D)
6 Almonds
7 Tumeric
8 Seeds and Nuts
9 Honey
10 Carrots
11 Mushrooms (high in selenium, riboflavin and niacin).

Food / Dietary Management Of "JEDIJEDI" by mosesdejaviano(m): 2:05pm On Mar 16, 2020
“Jedi Jedi” is an health condition that is widely discussed especially in the south western part of Nigeria. Many people have narrated their encounter with this health condition.

Many people when asked to define what “Jedi Jedi” is, tried to give different answers. The different answers given range from back pain, constipation, bloody stool, haemorrhoid, water stool to low sexual drive.

This popular health condition is believed to affect people of all age range. Many people believed that this “Jedi Jedi” do affect babies which makes them to pass watery and mucous stool.

Though there is no medical condition called “Jedi Jedi” but the symptoms which the health condition labeled “Jedi Jedi” gives have their own medical terminologies.

Symptoms such as watery and mucous faeces is called Diarrhoea, bloody and mucous faeces is called Dysentery, the protrusion of the lining of the rectum through the anus is called Rectal Prolapse, also symptom such as the swollen and inflamed veins in the anus and rectum with the presence of blood is called Haemorrhoids.

It is widely believed among people that there is no medical treatment for “Jedi Jedi”. So many times, people turn to local herbs to treat this “Jedi Jedi” with the symptoms that has been mentioned above.

Parents do give these concoctions called local herbs to their babies who showed any symptoms of this “Jedi Jedi”.

Care must be taken in giving babies these local herbs because it can have adverse effects on the baby’s kidney and liver. Even adult’s liver and kidney are not spared from damage from the use or consumption of these local herbs.

The consumption of local herbs for this “Jedi Jedi” is wrong because all the symptoms it posited have different ways of treatment. No single local herb can be used to manage all the symptoms that come with “Jedi Jedi”.

Diarrhea can be treated by using Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), Dysentery can be treated using antibiotics while Rectal Prolapse and Haemorrhoids depending on the level of their severity can be managed. There is a need to visit or consult a doctor for proper management.

One of the symptoms of “Jedi Jedi” in adult that is mostly talked about is back pain.

When we consume a diet high in sugar, there is a trigger for the release of insulin and stress hormones. When there is an elevated blood sugar, the adrenal glands trigger the release of cortisol.

According to scientific research, the cortisol level in the blood is usually at higher value in the morning. Cortisol has an anti inflammatory function. This protects the tissue and nerve against damage.

An excessive increase in secretion of cortisol (hypercortisolism) in the blood due to elevated blood sugar which is as a result of high diet in sugar may pose a damaging effect in the body.

This activates inflammatory mast cells. Acute back pain is a stimulus response to hypercortisolism (excessive level of cortisol in the blood).

If the condition is not adequately and promptly managed, it can result to prolonged back pain, which could affect appetite, sexual drive, depression and fatigue.

Research has shown that important minerals are required for proper muscle activities. Sugar has a negative effect on minerals needed for muscle activities.

Minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium are affected negatively by high sugar diet. The deficiency of some of these minerals can bring cramps or excessive muscle contraction.

Nutritional management include the following:
1. Consumption of low glycemic index foods: Research shows that low glycemic index foods have a positive effect on the rise of blood sugar level, 2 to 4 hours after consuming them. These low glycemic index foods have slower action on the rise of glucose level in the blood. They are called “good carbs”.
They tend to keep your blood sugar more stable and steady. These are examples of foods with low glycemic index; Corn, Beans, Okro, Leafy Vegetables, Banana, Unripe Plaintain, Milk, Fruits (lower glycemic index ones), Brown Rice, Akara, MoinMoin, Soy, Lentils.
High glycemic foods should be reduced in your diet. Examples include; White bread, White rice, Pastas, Table sugar, Processed foods, Watermelon, Pineapples, Sweetened drinks, Ice creams, Cornflakes, Garri, Eba, Amala, Agidi, Semovita.

2. Consumption of fruits and vegetables: Vegetables and fruits is very good because it has high fiber content. Most high fiber foods have low glycemic index. So they have positive effect on the blood glucose level. Examples include; cashew, lemon, apples, pears, oranges, dates grapefruit, carrots, cucumber, celery, cauliflower, asparagus.

3. Do not skip or consume high sugar breakfast: Research has shown that skipping or consuming high sugar breakfast may give rise to unstable increase in cortisol level and this may put you at risk of chronic inflammation and acute back pain.
4. Avoid consumption of caffeine
5. Have a good sleep and exercise regularly

Health / PHYTOCHEMICALS : A Preventive Or Curative Approach by mosesdejaviano(m): 11:31am On Aug 20, 2019
There had been claims on the potency and strength of some phytochemicals. Many have talked about some phytochemicals curing some disease conditions.

Some have attest to the usefulness of some phytochemicals in combating ailments and illness. I have seen various health claims flying about on prints and social media platforms.

There is lots of information about the effectiveness of phytochemicals which has no scientific proofs. There are some phytochemicals hich scientific research has proven to have some health benefits.

But some people out of their own selfish interest and agenda tend to ballon the health claims about these phytochemicals more than appropriate. They went on giving health claims about these phytochemicals more than what scientific research has given.

Many people have been misled due to spurious claims about the functions of certain phytochemicals. Many people have taken to the use of products that have these phytochemicals in order to cure their ailments and disease conditions.

Unfortunately, these have led to death of some people and have even aggravated or worsen the health conditions of some individuals, because many do not follow holistic medical therapy or treatment for their various disease conditions.

Phytochemicals are compounds that occur naturally in plants such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, herbs, beans, nuts and seeds. They are not required by the body for sustainability.

These naturally occurring chemicals have tendencies to protect and prevent body cells from diseases. According to scientific researches, there are lots of phytochemicals known. There are thousands of them that have been discovered.

Examples of phytochemicals include the following; Alkaloids, Anthocyanins, Carotenoids, Coumestans, Flavan3ols, Flavanoids, Hydroxycinnamic Acids, Isoflavones, Lignans, Monophenols, Monoterpens, Resveratrol, Thiols, Lycopenes, Quercetin, Organo sulfides, Phytic Acids, Phenolic Acids, Saponins, Stylbenes, Xanthophylls.

Examples of phytochemicals include the following; Apples, Apricots, Broccoli, Brussels, Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Garlic, Onions, Soybeans, Tomatoes, Kale, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Berries, Celery, Turnip Greens, Sweet Poatatoes.

Some of the benefits of phytochemicals include the following:

 1. Some have antioxidant properties which protect our body cells against oxidative stress which help to reduce the risk of occurrence of cancer. Phytochemicals that have these antioxidant properties include; polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenoids and allyl sulfides.

2. Some help to reduce the occurrence of menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis. Example includes isoflavones.

3. Some have antibacterial properties which fight against bacterial organisms. Example includes Allium. Some prevent the multiplicity of cancerous cells. Capsaicum (hot pepper) and Saponins (beans) are examples.

3. Some phytochemicals have antiadhesive properties. Thereby, consumption of such phytochemicals reduce blood pressure, urinary tract infections and better dental conditions. Example includes Proanthocyanidins.

4. Some help to decrease bad LDL cholesterol. Examples include; sulfides and thiols.

5. Some stimulates the production of immune bodies in the body system

Currently, there is no limit to the intake of phytochemicals. Though a lot of research is going on for an established dietary recommendation.

There is no written scientific medical definition of “cure”. Instead of the word “cure”, the word “treatment” is often used. If one checks through some medical books such as Oxford Concise Medical Dictionary, Bantam Medical Dictionary, Barrons Dictionary of Medical Terms and Medical Terminology for Dummies, the word “cure” is not found.

So it is very wrong to use the word “cure” for the activity of phytochemicals in the body. On the other hand, the word “cure” literally means a complete healing process without any symptoms of the disease in the body system.

The word “prevention” is different from the word “cure”. Prevention are measures to prevent the occurrence of a disease condition. It may also mean the reduction in the symptoms of a disease condition.

So if we look deeply, the activities of phytochemicals is preventive rather than a curative approach. These plant chemicals tend to reduce and prevent the occurrence of disease conditions. The curative abilities of these bioactive chemicals have not been thoroughly established.

My recommendation is that the use of the word “cure” in describing the effectiveness of any phytochemical should be looked into by relevant regulatory bodies for Foods and Drug.

Sanctions should be made by legal regulatory bodies for companies making unverifiable claims about cure of cancer and other diseases using their products which have certain phytochemicals.

Also, people need to be sensitized about all the false claims about some phytochemicals.

Food / GLUTEN : The Good And Bad Parts by mosesdejaviano(m): 12:55pm On Aug 16, 2019
Recently, there had been a lot of fuss on the consumption of gluten rich foods on the public fora and social media. I have read posts that attributed the consumption of gluten to cause cancer and even death.

There are broadcast messages on whatsapp and other social media platforms warning people about the consumption of gluten rich foods. One of the foods people have been advised to desist from is wheat because it is rich in gluten.

Gluten is a protein found in the endorsperm of various cereal grains. It occurs as glutelin which is a storage protein in cereals. True gluten is limited to these four cereal grains which are wheat, barley, oats and rye. Gluten is present in beer and soy sauce.

Gluten is responsible for dough elasticity during bread production. It allows the expansion of dough when there is yeast fermentation. It also found it’s uses in cosmetics, shampoo and other hair products. Gluten’s elasticity property makes it an important ingredient in hair products, sprays and shampoo.

It is believed that gluten can’t be properly metabolized. Recent scientific research shows that humans have proteases for breaking down gluten, the only part not properly digested is gliadin. Though we can’t refer to this has improper digestion, but rather a definite digestive process or pattern in we humans.

Gluten has been majorly linked to celiac disease, wheat allergy and gluten sensitivity in genetically susceptible people. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder which occurs in genetically susceptible people when they ingest or consume gluten.

The gluten generates an immune reaction in the small intestine of the patient. It affects the villi in the small intestine of such people which hinders absorption of nutrients from the food.

This may deprive the body organs the nourishment they need. In such people, the immune system sees gluten as an enemy anytime it is ingested, so the immune system tries all ways to get rid of it.

Taking some bacterial protease enzyme may be helpful for celiacs because it helps to further digest gliadin. And this could make gluten safe for them.

Symptoms include bloating, diarrhea, constipation, smelly faces, irregular weight loss, rash, hive, joint pain, anemia, anxiety, depression, headache and irritation of the mouth and throat.

Strictly adhere to gluten free diets. All these foods should be avoided unless it is labeled gluten free or it is made with gluten free grains(corn, rice or millet). Foods to avoid include soups, sauces, salad dressings, pastas, macaronis, cookies, candies, cakes and pies, breads and beer.

Foods that are gluten free include the following; rice, millet, corn, buckwheat, fresh eggs, fresh meat, poultry, fish, beans, quinoa, tapioca, fruits and vegetables and amaranth.

However, cutting gluten out of one’s diet may result in nutritional deficiencies. This is because, foods highly rich in gluten tend to have high content of fiber, vitamin B12, vitamin E(in wheat), zinc, iron, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, calcium, and phosphorus. Wheat is a good source of selenium, manganese, copper and floated.

My recommendation is that there is no need of sticking to a gluten free diet if you don’t have an auto-allergic reaction or gluten intolerance to the ingestion of gluten.

Atiku is corrupt and a criminal and he has not been charged for any crime by this administration of integrity.

When he donated to Buhari's campaign in 2014, he is not a criminal. When they used his jet for campaign they eulogised him. They sing praises of his name.

So what happened between then and now that he suddenly becomes a criminal.

I stopped arguing with people since 2017, when I came to know that an average Nigerian has an IQ of 67. That means an average Nigerian is mentally retarded.

Currently 91 million people are living in extreme poverty. 91 million living under $2. $1=365naira, $2x30=$60. $60 x365 =21,900.
There are about 2650 people thrown into poverty line everyday according to statistics. And you still want such administration to continue.
Foreign investors can't come because of those handling the economy of the nation.

Look at the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed. She holds only BSc in Accounting, She is not even a chartered accountant. She belongs to ANAN.

Look at the economic team of the country been headed by someone who is a professor in law. And we also have three lawyers in our economic team.

Check Obama's council of economic advisers, we have professors of macro economics, micro economics, fiscal policy and planning, Food economics.

Bill Clinton took USA out of recession with a record time of 3 months. He thanked Joseph Stiglitz who was the head of his council of economic advisers. Joseph Stiglitz was the chief economist of World Bank then.

Come to UI, OAU and UNILAG you will see emeritus professors of macro, micro economics. Those who can plan economic policies for the country to follow in the next 100years to come. But they won't use them.

Economy under Buhari administration is in shambles and in comatose state.

N.B :I am not saying Atiku is the messiah but I know he has good economic blueprint. He has experience in managing business. He will fight poverty in the land.

Dont mind the guy. He is just flipping his own sh&t trying to make sense of the nonsense that is Nigeria and its people. Thays how the keep changing the post from blame whites to age to size to military as if the military leaders where not Nigerians and where not hailed by Nigerians while they did their sheningnan. Anything but the fact that Nigerians have poor value system and orientation of ethnicity above merit and competence makes it impossible to select good leaders. Tell them to say Amen to their life's progress being like that of Nigeria, since they believe the country is progressing like this, they wont. Good you are loading him with superior counter points and facts.

There is a saying that says the level of thinking that creates a problem cannot be used to solve the problem. We need higher level of thinking of solving such problems.

When we look the crop of leaders we have. They don't have higher level of thinking to solve the problems we have at hand.

Look at the ministers, we have square pegs in round holes. Look at Zainab Ahmed, the current minister of finance, my younger brother is more qualified than she is. And that is the one controlling the affairs of economics of the country.

My younger brother is a chartered accountant (ICAN and ACAA certified). He has an MBA degree too. Now let us look at the current minister of finance, she is not chartered, just a BSc in Accounting and the only professional body she is affiliates with is ANAN(A body for hausa accounting graduates that finds ICAN too hard). So tell me, how will someone like that boost the confidence of foreign investors to come and invest in the country.

I just took one case, if I am to comment on each minister I will have to write a book.

Look at the current economic team of the country. It is headed by a Professor of Law. Some that had his First degree and Masters degree in Law. The only accountant in that team before was Kemi Adeosun.

During the first term of Bill Clinton, he thanked Joseph Stiglitz who is the head of council of his economic advisers. Bill Clinton took USA out of recession just within a space of 4-6months. He said he was able to do that by the help of Joseph Stiglitz. Joseph Stiglitz was the chief economist of World Bank then.

Let us check the council of economic advisers under Obama. They are all made of Erudite Professors in Economics field. We have Professors of macro economics, micro economics, international economics, fiscal and policy planning.

But here in our own economic team we have 3 lawyers, a doctor, and Kemi Adeosun. And people want the economy to change. That is not possible. That is why the economy cannot grow.

If you come down to UI, OAU, UNILAG you will see many Emeritus Professors in the field of Economics but the government can't gather them to make a blueprint and formulate policies that the country will follow even in the next 50-60years. Just that it will need a periodical review in every 10-15years.

If I am to talk on Agriculture, I will write a lot.

That is why if these are the leaders we are still having nothing will change. Where they choose people to key positions based on ethnic or religious line, not minding competence.

So that is why we need great visionary leaders that can see into the future. Not these archaic type of leaders. Those that can project into 50years to come
Like I always say, with the right type of leaders, Nigeria shall be great.

Nigeria is a very bad country and alot of Nigerians are stupid...

We celebrate mediocrity alot, OP is talking about a road in Italy and someone that hasn't travelled abroad before is saying Abuja . .How heaven and hell take relate?... Even if there's one in Abuja, is Abuja the whole of Nigeria?

It's 2019 and campaign promises would still be "I'd build good roads" ,"I'd ensure 24hours power supply" . . .for Bleep sake, in Developed countries having good roads and 24hour light is like a basic human right just like Education....Alot of tertiary institutions in this countries are tuition free, some tuition even for international students, yet ASUU is currently on strike, our full Education budget is 108BN and Osinbajo stole 33BN, almost one-third of our budget and nothing has been done and would be done to him..... Gaduje was caught on camera by a journalist who risked his life for 2 years to get an evidence that Gaduje,Kano state governor is heavily corrupt, guess what? The judge ordered the stoppage of his probing and you think Nigeria is progressing

A journalist talked against an APC senator seeking reelection in Enugu state last week....the Senator used the "Nigerian police" to arrest him, handcuff him and flogged mercilessly with cane, he was later rescued by a senior PDP member.

A poor man climbed a mast protesting that he won't come down until Buhari leaves...guess what? He was brought down and detained...

We have no freedom of speech... I'm a 4th year medical student in UNIBEN with so many attempts at small small businesses failing.... I have 2 innovations in form of a phone application that I need just 300K to start, one addressing education, the other addressing mental health, I've applied for incubation hubs without being picked and I can't get a loan due to suffocating interest rate...if Nigeria was good, I can get the 300K which is less that $1K with credit card or a government agency working on innovation....

It would take 9ja at least 3000years to become better. .not even a youth revolution would make Nigeria better, because the youths clamouring for Buhari and a bit below the ones clamouring for a better Nigeria...

If you protest, you'd be arrested and the rest of Nigerians would be silent...

Don't give me that entrepreneurship talk, Nigerians are just too mediocre...look at that fool that said Save Npower 30K, like seriously?? . . You deserve a job that's why you went to school, starting a business should be optional and a thing of Choice not something necessitated due to lack of job .. Americans always say, "go get a job" "go get a job" no o e tells you to go start a business in America after you're done with school, it should be a thing of choice, you deserve a job provided by the government...

Don't give me that we're just 60years and Rome wasn't built in a day talk, that just stupid....when was Singapore built? ....Rwanda ended their civil war in 1994 here, now they are the leading country in Africa in terms of development.....how come in 1973 1 British pound=2 Nigerian pound . . .how come in the 70s till the early 90s government fed university student....things are getting worse, Nigeria is not getting any better . ..the earlier you realize it he better......
x

So true my Brother.

I don't know how a right thinking educated individual will support a program such as N-power.

Though what we call education in Nigeria is not education. What we call education in Nigeria is just schooling. And there is a great difference between schooling and education.

One may have five PhDs and still be uneducated. Education is a means to end in the schooling path.

Education involves three processes:
1. The Learning process,
2. The Unlearning process,
3. The Relearning process.
The three procedural path must be complete before one is can say he is educated.

But the clime we found ourselves, the education process stops at the learning stage, and that is why we hear, read and see a lot of things that emanate from the so called "educated".

No Logical and Critical thinker will support the crumbs or beggar money been given to the so called "educated" (N30, 000). While their kids and children live fat on the collective resources of the people they govern.

Their kids cannot spend N30, 000 in 2minutes, they all drive exotic cars that ranges in tens of million naira. They go to parties in attires valued at millions of naira. These kids spend lavishly and extravagantly. They don't school here in our dilapidated, unequipped, comatose University. They schooled in Ivy league Universities across the globe.

But after the so "called educated" pass through the stress of non functioning, glorified citadel of learning, they are given N30, 000 in form of empowering them. And the so called "educated" is comfortable with it.

There is a need for getting the real education. There is a need for re-engineering of the thought process of the so called "educated".

I guess they shut the eyes of white audience when they popularize celebs too so they dont emulate the fast lane.

Blacks in their fvcked convulated values are their glamourising hard drugs and other vices in their music but blame whites.

And the one who goes about hurting himself by himself purpotedly due to another is not foolishly evil and to be blamed and held responsible but the other should.

I find it so appalling when people blame the whites for our woes and failures.

There are many researches that has been conducted to prove that something is wrong with the black race. Whether it is genetically or culturally induced I don't know.

The three mice test shows the situation and condition of black mentality.

The type of leaders we have are those that are myopic (short-sighted). If you look at the current polices and plans, you will know that Nigeria is far from developing.

A state government will tell you that he spent around 400billion naira on construction of roads in his four year tenure. And you look at the type of road constructed, you will weep for the generation yet unborn.

When I read comments of so called educated folks, I know it is finished for this country.

If the so called educated folks can support the clueless, unintelligent, unfocused type of leaders we have in the country then for the country to move forward will be a mirage.

An average IQ of Nigerians according to study is 67, which means an average Nigerian is extremely mentally retarded.

Is that not so? How can right thinking individuals still be hailing those who impoverished and make life unbearable for them.

The reason the leaders cannot do any tangible thing in the land is because POVERTY is used as an instrument or tool of control.

According to STALIN, when he was asked how people can be put in control, he said the best way to put people or masses under control is not to give the people means of survival. And that is what the present leaders are doing, they knew the moment poverty is reduced, their grip on the people will be greatly reduced.

Let look at the 2019 election, it is a choice between the devil and blue sea. Like what Prof. Lumba said, he said those that have ideas are not permitted, and those that are permitted have no ideas.

Until there is a re-engineering of the thought process of people, so that they will be able to choose a leader that has ideas and can see into the future. Until then, nothing will ever change in Nigeria.

Though we are blessed with those that can move it forward, but they are not given the opportunity to lead.

I know Nigeria shall be great when we put round pegs of leaders in round holes.

even if Africa is not blessed with "visionary leaders", the citizens can also help by having successful businesses BUT like you pointed out about Awolowo, 50 years ago Awolowo was making the SW work for the himself and his people, but the civil war changed that..

Now 50 years later, the same SW that was created mainly to help uplift Yorubas is now over-populated with non-Yorubas due to the leaders of these non-Yorubas not trying to make their regions work 50 years ago....

I hope ugosample, Mizwisdom, SIRTee15 reads this....

That is will pose a big problem. It is the leader that will drive development of a country.

Why do we talk of people like Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Lee Kwam Yew, Mandela and other great leaders for their landslide achievement.

A country where the followers see far more than the leader will undergo under-development.

It is the leader that plans, design policies and implement these policies. It is the leader that creates an enabling environment for the smooth drive of private sector.

It is not the follower that will plan for the leader. The leader must be able to show the way for the follower to take.

So no where in the world does the follower drives development without a well laid template provided by the leader.

I am sorry I cannot have a proper conversation with a person who does not understand the relevance of history to this matter.

Please go and meet your mates.

I want to take you back to history, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the one that built the first radio station in Africa, the first Television station in Africa, Obafemi Awolowo University, Cocoa House (tallest building in Africa, built in 1965) and many more.

The radio station he built was ahead that of many countries in Europe.

Where was Singapore, Malaysia during those times? We are far ahead of them because of the kind of leader he is.

It takes a leader like Lee Kwam Yew to take Singapore to that height. What of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai.

The problem with Africa lies with it's leadership. Africa is not blessed with great visionary leaders.

If Chief Obafemi Awolowo can attain such height around 50years ago. What happened to the crop of Leaders we have now.

National progress and development lies at the type of leaders that direct its affairs.

The crop of leaders we have presently in the country are not visionary. A leader must be able to see more far ahead his followers. A leader must set a pace for the follower to follow.

We are in the situation where the followers see farther than the leader.

We need a leader that can see into the future of this country and bring a template that people can follow even for the next 50years.

The most funny part is that we have men of astute statue that has great vision but the system won't allow them.

Nigeria can change within a space of 10yrs provided it is fortunate to have a great visionary leader to direct its course.

God blessed this country with fertile lands for us to make a statement in the world.

Switzerland doesn't grow Cocoa but it is the largest producer of chocolate. We that we have Cocoa we still import chocolate from abroad.

We should have been the food basket of Africa and world by the fertile lands we are blessed with in the country. We ought to be exporting our farm products to other African countries and the world at large.

The leaders we have talk about improving agriculture but just with lips. There are no resources provided to revamp the agricultural sector that we should be known for in the world.

One of my teacher during my Masters degree class then told us that the govt of USA have to tell some farmers in South Carolina not to cultivate for that season because there is no place to store the farmF produce. And the farmers were paid.

There many things bedeviling this our great country, but I know with the right kind of leaders, the country will be great.

I am highly disappointed in some of the comments I read on this page.

Is this the class of intellectuals that this country is breeding? I think the op doesn't know what research is.

How can an individual seat in his room and based his/her assumptions on figures of people he/she knew.

Statistics was given by NBS that has conducted a thorough research through the length and breadth of the country.

And someone using few cases of people he/she knew to disapprove a well conducted research is a shame to research inclined individual.

So an individual can base his research that affect more than 80million working force on 10-20 people he/she knew.

So research made on 20-30 people will be a true representation of about 80 million working force.

If the op is a graduate and he said this, that means our education curriculum needs urgent reviewing.

Ijeshas still believe he has a hand in the death of their son Chief Bola Ige.

I don't know why people lie deliberately without their conscience pricking them.

Aregbe owed 34months half salary arrears which is 17 whole months.

One week to election he paid August salary and 4months half salary arrears from the 34months half salary arrears.

So the 4months half salary arrears he paid is just equivalent to 2months full salary.

Currently Aregbe is still owing 30 months half salary arrears which is equivalent to full 15 months salary.

And you still want us to vote for him and his stooge again. NEVER!!!

That is the current situation of the salaries he is owing now.
