Education / Live By Example – Prof. Eno Ibanga Charges Parliamentarians by mosky360(m): 9:19am On Sep 04, 2019
The 2019 Akwa Ibom State University Students Union Legislative day was yesterday, held at the main campus of the University. The exercise had as its theme “Legislature - the true Anchor of Democracy” and has a sub theme “Students’ Health and Counseling Services”

In his remarks the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), who was ably represented by Prof. Idongesit Isaac - Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), charged students and the Legislators to always live by example and ensure that they do not break the laws that are made by them, in the first place. He frowned at what our society has become today and expressed strong confidence that the new crop of students’ leaders that AKSU is producing will grow up to salvage the decadence in the society, where people have little or no regards for the rule of law.

Speaking on the Students Health and Counseling Services, Dr. Dominic Ukpong opined that “time is the determiner of all things including health" and that students should learn to manage their time properly. The Honourable Commissioner expressed sadness at the number of students that have lost-out in various institutions because they have not been careful enough to pay close attention to their personal health needs. “without a sound and a healthy body, academic success mostly ends up as a day dream” he submitted.

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State Students Union Parliament, Hon. Ibanga Emmanuel had earlier welcomed guest to the event and took time to appreciate the Akwa Ibom State University management for the support and conducive environment they have given them to perform their responsibilities effectively. According to him, “Prof. Eno Ibanga is a rare man of honour, who has shown uncommon determination to turn Akwa Ibom State University into a first class academic institution”.... Education / Nigerians Respond …diabetes (akwa Ibom State University Students To The Rescue) by mosky360(m): 5:53am On Jul 26, 2019
Two (2) days ago we broke a story on how Mr. Udauk M. Below we curate and present a flavor of some of the top comments on “Diabetes …Akwa Ibom State University students to the rescue”...(Click the link below to continue READING ==> https://www.aksu360.com/2019/07/nigerians-respond-diabetes-akwa-ibom.html)

Education / Diabetes …akwa Ibom State University Students To The Rescue by mosky360(m): 6:32am On Jul 24, 2019
The greatest challenge faced by diabetic patients in Nigeria is what kind of food they can eat that will not raise their blood glucose level especially considering the fact that most of the staple foods consumed by Nigerians contain a very high level of carbohydrate.

Eating or drinking garri more than once a day could potentially and easily send a diabetic patient into “diabetic coma” due to hyperglycemia, if the person is unaware of the damage this kind of food can cause.

Diabetic patients have variously been advised to make concerted efforts to stay away from eating or drinking garri; but the question is, what other food and source of carbohydrate do we have available to them as a substitute?

The answer to the above poser forms the background of the work embarked upon by 2 students of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU).

Effort:
Challenged by the afore-mentioned problem, Mr. Udauk Michael Udoh, an AK14 graduating AKSU student from the department of Genetics and Bio-Technology and Mr. Westgarth Emem (AK17) recently embarked on some further research work on Cassava. They hydrolyzed the sugar content (carbohydrate) that is present in processed cassava (garri). This enabled them to get a finished garri that could be readily consumed by diabetic patients......
