Politics / 2023: Pandora Papers, Taxation And Obi’s Chances by Move2(m): 7:51am On Aug 02, 2022
In an environment where full-time professional politicians abound, Obi has tasted life as an entrepreneur, where he excelled and became financially secure before venturing into the murky world of Anambra politics, in his home state, where he also proved his mettle as a ‘performing’ two-term governor. What happened in-between remains an object of debate – and curiosity. The “Pandora Papers” lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding Obi’s financial dealings overseas last year. It was part of the revelations by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists with which hundreds of media outlets around the world are affiliated. They are dedicated to exposing millions of documents linked to shadowy figures hiding their wealth in offshore accounts on remote islands in the backwaters of Europe and in the Caribbean.
In 2010, four years into Obi’s first tenure as governor, he hired a shadowy agent in Monaco to help set up “Gabriella Investments Ltd” on the British Virgin Island, under the auspices of “Access International.” The transaction was so airtight that no one knew about it, and no political firestorm broke out in Anambra over the governor of an impoverished state stashing wealth in offshore accounts, well away from his people. By the way, Gabriella is the name of Obi’s daughter. The investment was later restructured into PMGG Investment Ltd in 2017capturing the initials of members of the Obi’s clan: Peter, Margaret, Gabriella, and Gregory, the youngest son. So far, there is no evidence showing that the “investments” were proceeds of crime.
There are a myriad of reasons a person would wish to hide their wealth in offshore accounts. Tax avoidance tops the list, but it also includes money laundering, and official corruption. When quizzed about this by Premium Times, in October 2021, Obi confessed to not having fully declared his interest in offshore accounts to the relevant authorities as expected, but made it clear that his action was informed by his desire to avoid inheritance tax.
He said, “I am sure you too will not like to pay inheritance tax if you can avoid it.” A desire to build a dynastic wealth for generations of one’s family may be ok if you are a Joe Public, but not if you are striving to become the leader of a country whose interest payments on its debts currently outstrip its income, and where citizens rummage through the dustbin of the rich, daily, in their millions, looking for crumbs. Moreover, if Nigeria is not good enough to protect Obi’s wealth, how on earth as President, is he going to persuade other people to come and invest in his country? Besides, stashing away wealth in order to avoid paying tax has significant distributional implications, especially for a Labour Party whose raison d’etre is the emancipation of the working people and enhancement of equality of opportunity.

Inheritances and inter-vivo gifts (economic values passed on during the owner’s lifetime) play a crucial role in perpetuating income and class disparity across generations. Taxation is the main instrument for levelling the playing field, and improving social mobility across individuals. In a show of disdain for the have-nots, Obi and his ilk do all they can as city tycoons to thumb their noses at basic socio-economic principles. But, why single out Obi for criticism? Well, a presidential candidate, especially, a leader of the Labour Party must be held to a higher standard on this particular issue. Besides, not everyone involved in similar offshore schemes is running to be Commander-in-Chief of the most populous black nation on earth. Peter Obi talks the talk, but does not walk the talk. He is distinctly unfit for command.

Politics / Re: Policemen Into Cultism, Yahoo-yahoo – AIG Cries Out by Move2(m): 7:05am On Jul 29, 2022
So what is the hope of the citizens when those who should uphold the law are themselves breaking the same law?
Politics / Policemen Into Cultism, Yahoo-yahoo – AIG Cries Out by Move2(m): 8:35pm On Jul 28, 2022
https://dailypost.ng/2022/07/28/policemen-into-cultism-yahoo-yahoo-aig-cries-out/

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 (Lagos and Ogun), Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, has lamented that some men of the Nigeria Police Force are into cultism and internet fraud, otherwise known as Yahoo-Yahoo.

According to him, the policemen in these acts are the ones sabotaging the efforts of the police force to rid the nation of crimes and giving the force a bad name.

The AIG stated that a policeman in a particular cult group would do everything to ensure members of his group are protected, even when they have committed an offence.
While lamenting the high rate of cultism among the officers, he warned them against misconduct and other acts that may trigger civil unrest; charging the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to fish out cops involved in cultism and cybercrime.

If you (police officers) are a cultist I don’t think you should show it to people because it is wrong; and do you know why it is wrong even if you are not wicked? if you belong to a cult group, there is no way you are not going to favour a member of your cult, unless you are not a good cult member.

In a situation where a police officer is a member of a cult group and people in the society know that he is a cultist, his activities are related to cultism, I think it is sad.

“There are some of our policemen too now that are into cybercrime, popularly know as Yahoo-Yahoo, especially policemen who find themselves in places where we have institutions of higher learning; it is very common. You (Commissioner) need to fish them out and you need to preach to them,” Adeleke said.

Speaking in Abeokuta, Adeleke warned that another #EndSARS protest may lead to the end of the police, warning his men to be more professional and civil while dealing with members of the public.

Another EndSARS may lead to the end of the police,” he feared.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Soldiers Busted For Sharing In N100 Million Ransom Paid By Deji Oyewumi by Move2(m): 9:36pm On Jul 27, 2022
But there are more questions arising from this issue- what happened to the arms bought with the country's money? Billions leave the budget yearly for arms? How come the army command or the president has not investigated these allegations?
Is the national security adviser aware of this situation and what is he doing about it?
The people need answers from the CDS or the CinC.
Politics / Nigerian Soldiers Busted For Sharing In N100 Million Ransom Paid By Deji Oyewumi by Move2(m): 2:15pm On Jul 27, 2022
https://gazettengr.com/nigerian-soldiers-busted-for-sharing-in-n100-million-ransom-paid-by-deji-oyewunmi-abducted-kaduna-train-passenger/

Peoples Gazette has been informed that Nigerian soldiers took cuts in the ransom paid by one of the passengers seized by bandits who intercepted a Kaduna-bound train on March 28.

Deji Oyewunmi, a manager at Iris Smart Technologies
an immigration contractor in charge of international passport printing and distribution, was one of the three victims released on Monday by armed groups after paying a N100 million ransom. It was unclear how much the other victims paid, but one of them said the Buhari regime had no input in the efforts that yielded his release.

The Gazette learnt that Mr Oyewunmi’s firm raised N60 million, while the remaining N40 million came from a coalition of friends and family. At least two people directly involved in the fund-raising and release activities
told The Gazette anonymously how Nigerian soldiers shared in the ransom.

“After we did all the consultations and we arranged. the
N100 million cash for the bandits, we met some Nigerian soldiers at several checkpoints leading to the forests in Kajuru, and they
collected large amounts ranging from N100,000 to N220,000,” a source familiar with the matter said. “They were boldly telling us that it was their share of the ransom and the bandits would understand.”

“We were short about N700,000 from the N100 million by the time we got to the bandits,” the source added. “We were all ashamed that Nigerian soldiers had the audacity to openly collect their own share because they were laughing
and mocking us at the checkpoints that it was their own share of the ransom we were taking to the bandits.”

Another source said some of the soldiers
sympathised with the victims and their relatives affected by the mass abduction but said they had also been in the trenches for months without adequate
supplies.

“Some of the soldiers said they were sent to guard the forests in Niger, Kaduna and other states because of bandits but they were not properly armed and no food for them,” the source said. “They said the military generals abandoned them in the forests to the awareness of even the bandits.”
A spokesman for the Nigerian Army did not return requests seeking comments regarding what the headquarters might have been told about the extortion
activities and welfare of soldiers deployed in the troubled North-West.

Politics / My Former Running Mate, Obi, Made A Mistake Defecting To Labour Party —A by Move2(m): 10:03am On Jul 22, 2022
I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take much votes from the PDP as people are speculating. They have no structure at all levels with no Governor, and lawmakers.

“It is difficult to expect a miracle to happen because Peter Obi is in Labour Party. They had said hrough the social media they have one million votes in Osun State but how many votes do they have in real life? In the northern part of the country, about 90 percent of people don’t have access to the social media. Most of the electorates are not on social media,” Atiku clarified.

The Presidential Candidate of the African Action Party, AAC, Omoyele Sowore has called on Nigerians not to vote for Labour Party Candidate, Peter Obi because he is being back by ‘Criminals’.

Sowore, in a statement via his social media page, state that Former heads of state, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar were all ‘working for’ Obi.
“Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, abubakar Abdusalam and Ango Abdulahi are Mr. Peter Obi’s “God fathers” the people that ruined Nigeria are the ones fronting for him.”

“May it never happen that we will work with these criminals!”

“If you really hate drug barons & dealers, don’t promote one over another.”

“None of them deserved to be called an “Elderstateman”. The reason investigative journo Dele Giwa was murdered by Babangida was “Gloria Okon”. He too ran a drug cartel.”

Vulturereloaded:
A muslim ruled Nigeria for 8 years, and the 2 major poltical parties see nothing wrong with fielding muslim candidates.

Unfortunately christians dont get the message being passed by this action.

If it succeeds, in the next 8 years, political parties will only field muslim candidates. They will tell you that if they present a christian candidate, that they wont win.

That the North will not vote him, and they need northern votes to win. They will automatically sideline christians in the politics of Nigeria.

Then gradually, our laws begin to change towards a muslim nation. The Hijab ruling is a clear example.

Christians better stand your ground in this elections or be eliminated.

Once they vex they attack churches and kill worshipers and its normal.

They stone christians in the name of blasphemy and its normal.

They negotiate with terrorists to release only muslim girls and keep the christian.

Dont use because of ethnicity and destroy your faith, ethnicity is only in the world, your believe is beyond this world.

Those attacked in owo church, were not attacked because they are Yoruba, they were attacked because the are christians.

Those attacked in southern kaduna are not attacked because they are hausa's, but because they are christains.

Get your PVC and vote the most qualified christian candidate.

Politics needs a game plan to be successful.
It's ok to want a Christian in power but how can it be achieved?
Is there a plan for 2027 just in case?
Politics / 2023: Atiku, Tinubu Will All Lose To Peter Obi – Pat Utomi by Move2(m): 9:15pm On Jul 12, 2022
Nigerians are already tired of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hence will vote them out in the 2023 general elections, says Professor Pat Utomi.
The Professor of Political Economy while appearing live on Politics Today on Channels TV earlier on Tuesday said APC’s presidential flag-bearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his counterpart in PDP, Atiku Abubakar will both lose to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Naija News recalls that Utomi was a presidential aspirant under Labour Party before Obi decamped from PDP to join his camp.

Utomi subsequently withdrew his presidential ambition to give way for Obi.

Explaining to PREMIUM TIMES weeks ago why he stepped down for Obi, Utomi said his decision to give up his aspiration in favour of Mr Obi was based on “a variety of factors.”

He stated that he has been looking for an alternative and creative political platform that will challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and opposition PDP to usher in an era of credible leadership in Nigeria.
He further added that he is in touch with other parties for a possible alliance to provide a better political alternative to Nigerians

Speaking again on Tuesday (today), Utomi assured Channels Tv that Obi will win the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, Naija News reports.
According to him, Obi who was a former governor of Anambra State would retire the presidential candidates of both APC and PDP.
He asserted that Nigerians are tired of the two political parties for their non-performance, stressing that the time has come to save the country.

“Nigeria is at dead end. Nigeria is bankrupt technically. Nigeria cannot pay its debt. Nigerians need a change and that change is Peter Obi”, Utomi said.

Politics / Buhari Tells Angry APC Governors Why Tinubu Announced Shettima In Daura by Move2(m): 12:54pm On Jul 12, 2022
Putting up some defence for Tinubu, President Buhari said the former Lagos governor had to announce Shettima as his running mate because his decision had already been leaked to the press.
A source at the meeting told This Day that the President told the aggrieved governors that Tinubu didn’t plan to disregard the understanding they had with him.

The source said the President informed the governors that the APC Presidential candidate had told him that he was to meet with them for proper briefing before the unveiling.

Buhari stated that Tinubu was still with him when some section of the media had started breaking the news that he had settled for Shettima and TinubuTinubu needed to respond to it immediately.
The President claimed that a leak from the Tinubu camp forced the APC candidate to take the initiative immediately and announced Shettima as his running mate whilst still in Daura.

According to the source, Buhari, however, pleaded with the governors to accept Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate since he is a loyal party member.

Politics / 10 Reasons Tinubu Is Next President, By Pastor Adelaja by Move2(m): 8:49pm On Jul 11, 2022
The founder of Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations Kyiv Ukraine, Pastor Sunday Adelaja, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be elected president.
Adelaja, in a post on his verified Facebook page titled: NIGERIA, BEHOLD YOUR NEXT PRESIDENT” said the former Lagos Governor will win because of 10 reasons he listed.
According to him, Tinubu is a man of vision who transformed Lagos to the fifth economy in Africa and raised men to continue his “progressives ideals and works.
He said Tinubu’s 50-year vision for Lagos is the exact template Nigeria needs to get out of economic doldrum.

By choosing Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate, he argued Tinubu has consolidated on his march to the presidency.

“With the picking of Kashim Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate, it’s obvious that this election is already predetermined. As things are Shettima will deliver the Northeast, while Buhari and his governors will deliverthe Northeast, while Buhari and his governors will deliver the Northwest to APC, we know Southwest will definitely go to Tinubu.
If those three geopolitical regions go the way of Tinubu/Shettima, all other political parties would only be contesting for the second and third positions,” Adelaja stated.

Describing the former Lagos Governor as a raiser of men, Adelaja said he is more of a mentor than a godfather.
According to him: “We all know the evil of godfatherism in Nigerian politics but Tinubu is one of the only few ones who represents the positive reflection of the word. His own godfatherism is not to hold you down but to raise you up. This is the true meaning of mentorship without which which no human endeavor is successful. Many blame him for it, please show me a better example not only in Nigeria, but anywhere on the continent. Guys, Tinubu is the best we have. Just take a look at all his products.”
He said the fact that Tinubu succeeded as Governor without the monthly federal allocation was a testimony to his economic management skills and ingenuity, pointing out even States that receive 13 percent derivation and fat allocations are not as financially buoyant as Lagos.
He dismissed the allegations of corruption and lack of educational qualifications against Tinubu, declaring ” Tinubu’s presidency is an idea whose time has come. No matter of character assassination will stop the train of his movement.”
His results in Lagos show that the man Tinubu can deliver, I don’t doubt the fact that he will make a major difference in the role of Nigeria’s President. Of course he won’t resolve all our national issues, but he is capable of paving the way for a
greater Nigeria.

“As things are now only death can stop the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigerian sixteenth President. If I were in the camp of Tinubu I’ll not rule out an attempt on his life by the forces bent on not letting his presidency become a reality. It’s not enough to pray for him, I will strongly advise that his security be beefed up accordingly. Nigeria cannot afford to have a repeat of the destiny of Moshood Abiola.”

Politics / 2023: Why Tinubu Is Correct On Muslim-muslim Ticket — Oba Maduabuchi SAN by Move2(m): 8:39pm On Jul 11, 2022
think he was forced by circumstances beyond him to pick a Muslim vice presidential candidate.
That is because, in political decisions, it is interest that reigns supreme. What is your interest? What is your objective and not what your religion or sentiments are. The important thing is what is your interest and objectives in the political venture.

He submitted that politics and political successes in an election are controlled by votes and not political and religious sentiments.

” Everything every candidate in an election is seeking are votes. If he comes to your Church or Mosque, he is coming there to campaign for votes.
So, if Tinubu being a Southern Muslim decides to pick a Christian from the North and his running mate, he will loose the election because the North is predominantly Muslim.

” If you exclude the Northern Muslim in the electoral equation, how many votes do you think he will get from the North?

“So, it is the circumstances of Nigerian polity that make it compelling that he must pick a
Northern presidential candidate.

“Can you imagine a Christian presidential candidate from the North picking a Muslim from the South as his running mate.
If he picks a Christian presidential candidate from the North, he must pick a Christian from the South because he cannot exclude the entire South- South; South-East and South-West.
The senior lawyer noted that the Christian population in the above three regions is about 99 to 85 percent.

“So, you cannot because of 15 or 20 percent population, you will pick a Muslim from there, you will loose because majority of the people being sentimentally religiously biased, will obviously vote according to their own religion.
He submitted that people who are criticizing Tinubu for picking a fellow Muslim as his running mate are indirectly campaigning for him because of what he called sympathy of numbers.

” Once you begin to criticize Tinubu that he is running a Muslim -Muslim ticket, you are making the Muslims in the North to bond together and it will now become a war between the Christians and Muslims.
And if 60 percent of the Muslims in the North vote for Tinubu, he has won the election.

“We have only three Christians States in the North, Benue, Plateau and Taraba. There is no other state in the North that has a Christian governor. So do you now need to waste your vice presidential slot on minority votes shutting out the majority?

Politics / 2023: IPOB Agitation Has Reduced Since Peter Obi’s Emergence – Gumi by Move2(m): 12:10pm On Jul 11, 2022
https://www./2022/07/11/2023-ipob-agitation-has-reduced-since-peter-obis-emergence-gumi/

The just-concluded Eid celebrations in MADA village Zamfara that witnessed banditry and migrations of locals a few months earlier this year had peaceful Sallah celebrations because the locals have gone into a peace treaty with the bandits. Peace works more than violence! People are learning from that. This is politics. So after all the conflict is political.

“The IPOB rhetoric and loud voice of Biafra agitations have muffled out with the emergence of Peter Obi as the Labor party presidential candidate. To them, Igbos have a platform. It’s clear now that the entire IPOB outcry was a political gimmick to get power.
The Oduduwa clamours have abated also since Tinubu has clinched the APC ticket never to resurface again until probably if he didn’t win the race.
Northern Ultra conservatives too have no mouth to speak of marginalization or suppression of representation, the NNPP kwankwaso has satisfied that segment of the society. No more claims of candidate suppression and manipulation.

“Those cosmopolitan nationalists and full democrats can finally say that the people’s Democratic Party also represented their aspirations. The late National Security Adviser General Andrew Owoeye Azazi once blamed the PDP’s zoning and power rotation arrangements for the increased spate of violence in the country.
Therefore President Jonathan went ahead to disrupt it. This was good for the democrats. The straw that broke the camel’s back.

“Those that are religiously inclined like the American Republican party, have in this race the APC, LP, and other parties that presented the same religion president/ Vice President Ticket or their religious preference candidate as the president.

“Every Nigerian political persuasion and aspiration is well represented and the choice is left for Nigerians to elect. This is true democracy. So we are optimistic that 2023 will bring the maturity of our chosen system of governance to the optimum.

“This is the elephant in the Room, political pundits and commentators are shying away to say. I have no party; I once opposed OBJ, GEJ, and PMB all as politicians publicly because of what I see as bad policies or governance. Nothing personal.

“Our only problem now is whether I.N.E.C. will conduct free, fair, and Transparent Elections?
Time will tell. May Allah bring peace, tranquillity, stability, and progress to our Nation. And also give us working frictionless governance. Amin”

Governors Angry over Decision, Meet Buhari Today in Daura

Some APC governors, who were unhappy with the announcement of Kashi Shettima by Bola Tinubu as his running mate, have scheduled to meet with President Buhari today in Daura, to formally register their displeasure befoe taking the next step.THISDAY gathered that the governors and Tinubu had been
back and forth on the choice of running mate, and while they were naturally opposed to the idea of two former governors pairing, they had started considering pandering to Tinubu since his sentiment appealed to Shettima. But to do this, the governors were said to have agreed with Tinubu that the unveiling would be done with them present, to show consent and agreement. However, going ahead to announce as if they did not matter in the equationmore so that some of them were uncomfortable with the Muslim-Muslim idea, has further angered them. But they first wanted to intimate the president with this before deciding what to do next.

Politics / Why I Admire Governor Shettima – Catholic Archbishop Kaigama by Move2(m): 9:27pm On Jul 10, 2022
The President, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama says he is attracted to the qualities in Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima because he has proved not to be “narrow minded and myopic” but rather one who is broad and fair to adherents of all religious groups as being testified by Christian leaders from all denominations living in Borno.
Kaigama Stated this in Maiduguri at the weekend when he led Bishops to pay courtesy call on Governor Shettima.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference was on empathy visit to Borno to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Maiduguri catholic diocese (1966 to 2016).

His words: “I have met Governor Shettima at different Fora, and I must say I have been very much
attracted to his personality. He is not the narrow minded and myopic kind of leader. He is a leader whose vision is broad and whose hands are large enough to embrace every body.‎ He is also very humble.
I told His Eminence, the Cardinal, that in some places we go, we have to wait for two hours or three in order to meet some government personalities but in Borno State, the Governor was the one receiving us and bringing us in. We came from different parts of Nigeria, and we are Catholic Bishops.
It is our tradition to meet always, to interact, to pray, and to express solidarity with ourselves and those who are in need. We are a voice for the people. Our voice is a prophetic voice. We see where things are good, we say it so. Where things are bad, we say it so.

“This is our mission and today we are in Borno State. We are truly overwhelmed with what we have seen. I can tell you we are already convinced that Borno State is on
a very high level gear of progress. ‎They say seeing is believing. We have come, we have seen, and we are convinced there’s a lot of good happenings here.
Despite all the negative stories about terrorist attacks and so on, there are determined people on ground who have a capable leader in the person of the Governor determined to forge ahead, to inspire peaceful coexistence to encourage people to transcend the temporary obstacles in order that they can build a very solid and vibrant State.
We are witnesses, and I can tell you we shall go from here to Lagos to Ibadan to Onitsha to Calabar to Lokoja to Abuja to tell this story” Archbishop Kaigama said.

‎Earlier, the Archbishop of Maiduguri Diocese, Bishop Oliver Dashe, spoke of how Governor Shettima has been rebuilding churches destroyed by Boko Haram in Borno State, supporting activities of Christian bodies for
all denominations and being fair to Christians in the affairs of Government the same way he is fair to the more populated Muslim community.
I want to tell you all (Archbishops) that Governor Kashim Shettima has been a father to all of us. Under his regime, we are experiencing fantastic relationship between the government and Christians in this State.
The Governor makes sure he carries everybody along as far as his administration is concerned”, Archbishop Dashe said.
Governor Shettima thanked the Archbishops for standing by the people of Borno State through thick and thin. He noted as a leader, he has obligation to be fair to everyone living in Borno irrespective of religious beliefs, ethnicity and from where anyone comes from.
Established in 1958, ‎the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, is the organ of unity for Archbishops and bishops of the 54 ecclesiastical jurisdictions under the Catholic Church in Nigeria.

Politics / Primate Ayodele: Peter Obi Not Ordained To Be Nigeria's President by Move2(m): 2:02pm On Jul 10, 2022
The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, can move Nigeria forward but he is not ordained to be president.

The cleric disclosed this in his annual prophecies titled “Warnings to the Nations.”

Speaking on the 2023 Primate Ayodele said:

Nigeria will still vote for a failed government because no change of government will make Nigeria move forward, only Obi can do it but he is not ordained. The best of the worse will become the President of Nigeria.

He added; “We cannot get that MKO Abiola kind of victory anymore. Any candidate that wins will still be the same story but God must give us a leader as was the case during the days of Saul in the Bible. 2023 cannot help Nigeria, there will still be corruption and insecurity. There is need to solve this problem urgently. It is either true federalism or every region stands on its own. The country needs a lot of prayers because in the common region some states will not perform as activities will no longer take place and leaders will be confused.”

On restructuring, Primate Ayodele said;

“Neither of these candidates can restructure Nigeria. Peter Obi can try but the rest cannot because restructuring will calm down issues.”

Ayodele also noted that Nigeria beyond 2023 needs prayers because of misconduct and criminal acts that will affect the corporate existence of the country.

He said: “I foresee that Nigeria beyond the year 2023 needs prayers because of misconduct and criminal acts that will affect the corporate existence of our country.

Nigeria as a country is sitting on a time bomb it is not Buhari that is the problem. We need fervent Prayers against shipwrecks, bombings collapsed bridges, and capsized ships.

In Nigeria, I foresee that the Government which has been owing pensioners will be exposed.

Let these Former Governors of Akwa Ibom State: Eyepeiyah John Ebiye, Godswill Akpabio and Victor Attah pray not to be bereaved.”

Politics / 2023: Rejecting Muslim-muslim Ticket Will Hurt South – Dr Tunji Abayomi by Move2(m): 7:57am On Jul 10, 2022
https://www.sunnewsonline.com/2023-rejecting-muslim-muslim-ticket-will-hurt-south-dr-tunji-abayomi/

Because of the peculiarity of the North, Tinubu has a narrow choice of a running mate as against his counterpart in the PDP. What do you think may likely be the implication of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the party?

I think we have to be realistic particularly we Yoruba of the Southwest because the current candidate of APC is a Yoruba man and the social dialogue in this nation is largely controlled by the Yoruba. We are fighting for a Southern president who will represent the interest of the South and principally the interest of Nigeria. But a Southern candidate will not automatically become the President unless he is able to poll enough vote to emerge as the President. That means we have to make the necessary sacrifices for him to win which is higher than the discontent about religious imbalance. Common sense dictate that we
should be realistic and practical. If our chance of winning is increased substantially by getting a good Muslim to work with a Southern presidential candidate, I think common sense dictates that we appreciate the situation instead of fighting it. If we fight it and at the end of it all we don’t get a Southern president, all the efforts and the struggle will come to nought. When you are not practical and realistic, what
you get is regret.

To that extent, are you expecting a situation where all eligible voters will shun both party and religious affiliations to queue behind the candidate of the APC?

Some will, some won’t. In my view, APC should not depend on that possibility. I believe APC should depend on itself and ask itself what strategy it needs to put together in order to win the election. You must realize that APC as at today is the party for the Southern part of the country based on the desire for a Southern president. In order to win, it has to be a combination of the Yoruba of the Southwest and the Fulani/Hausa of the North. Now, we have a bloc in the Southwest that is likely to support the candidate of APC. But we do not have a bloc in the North to support anybody. To that extent, we have an advantage. But if we do not carefully and practically make a decision that is favourable to our chance of winning by disregarding this albatross of religious tension, we may then find out that we have a bloc vote in the North that will work against our interest. In other words, we must be careful not to allow the PDP that has a Northern candidate to gain the advantage
of religion over the Southern candidate. What I am in essence saying is that before we reject Muslim-Muslim ticket, we must first of all ask ourselves: Is our chance of winning presidency for the South enhanced by a Muslim/Christian ticket or reduced by it? For me, what is practically important is the number of voters. I will say that South should think deeply and be realistic in whatever decision they make.

Politics / Peter Obi Not A Threat To PDP In 2023-sule Lamido by Move2(m): 7:23am On Jul 10, 2022
Many PDP chieftains believed that Obi’s defection from the party was a big loss that would affect its chances in the South-East. Do you agree with that?

Why are you compelling me to talk about personalities? I don’t want to talk about personalities, I want to talk about issues but you are pushing me to talk about personalities, mentioning names, you are not being fair to me. We have to be honest to have the courage to say the right thing. Was (Peter) Obi a PDP member? He ran under the All Progressive Grand Alliance and won
the election as a governor and at the end of his tenure, he came to the PDP. He was then made a running mate to Atiku in 2019 even though there were people who were in the PDP and were older than him as members of the PDP.

They were jettisoned and abandoned and he was picked, this is a very clear history. So, the PDP dignified him, The PDP honoured him because of what he got. In terms of contribution, in terms of reward, many others deserved that better than him in the South-East. He ran in 2019 as VP and
this time round, he tried to run for president under the PDP, and then, he left. Ideally, he should have gone back to his former party, APGA, if you are talking about principles, honour, and character because that is what made him what he is in life. If he abandoned the PDP that made him a VP in the election, gave him a bigger platform, and made him known in Nigeria, he should have gone back to APGA and run under APGA but then, he felt that his fortunes cannot be under APGA, so it is not about Nigeria but his personal interest.
The Labour Party’s popularity has grown since Obi joined the party, with millions of youths rooting for him as a young candidate fit to fix Nigeria’s problems. Do you think he will make a good president?

You see, the youths believe in fancy; you see that in the social media and beyond the social media, there is what we call the local environment where if you are hanging, you have to be dropped. Go to Kano and mention him (Obi’s name). Go even to Anambra where he served as governor; go there and mention his name, or go to Benue and drop Obi or go to Lagos and mention his name there. You see, these are a younger generation moved by passion and fancy. It is what they fancy in their minds that they write (on social media). Many of them on social media, if you look at them in terms of percentage, how many are they? That they are also coming from a particular environment, their location, villages, local governments, and states, and some things define the political directions of those areas. For example, a boy who is from Sokoto and fancies Peter Obi, what does he do about Peter Obi in Sokoto beyond writing on social media and fancy? You see, I don’t want to be discussing names but then, you are compelling me.

So you don’t consider Obi a major threat to the PDP and the APC in the 2023 presidential election?

What I am saying is that, as far as I am concerned, I, Sule Lamido, don’t see any threat to the PDP. Even in 2014 when we lost, I stood firm because I knew what I was doing because I was in the right party, doing the right thing, saying the right thing, not because of anything but because I had a very strong conviction. If you want me to abandon what I believe in or what I am doing, give me a superior argument. And I have been saying that those who left the PDP in 2014, 2019, and 2022, are not giving me any superior argument other than they are pursuing their personal interests.

Politics / How Peter Obi's VP Datti Ahmed Stuffed Ballot Boxes To Win Senate Election by Move2(m): 6:46pm On Jul 09, 2022
Earlier, Makarfi, had in his petition alleged non- compliance with provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act and the manipulation of the electoral process through ballot stuffing, the use of fake, unsigned and unstamped ballot papers, all of which he alleged were counted in favour of his opponent.
During the proceedings it was established that there were indeed ballot box stuffing during the April elections in Kaduna, just as there were several 'unsigned and unstamped' votes in most polling units, all of which were used to return candidates as winners during the April 28, 2011 rescheduled Governorship/State Assembly elections and Senatorial elections in the state.
In prosecuting the case, original ballot papers used for the election were admitted in evidence and after their admittance, Makarfi's counsel applied to the tribunal for a recount of the ballot papers.

But this was opposed by counsel to Datti, Abbas Ibrahim.

He premised his opposition on the fact that the boxes were not pleaded in the original petition or the witness
statement. But the tribunal disagreed with him and ordered a recount of the content of the boxes, insisting that the outcome of the recount would form part of the judgment of the tribunal.

The recount led to the deduction of 9, 000 votes, from those of Datti, thus setting the pace for the eventual ruling of the tribunal, which was in favour of Makarfi.
The tribunal through Justice Kalio, said about 300 exhibits, including Certified True Copies of Forms EC8A and ballot boxes, were tendered and admitted in evidence during the trial; but that about 97 were rejected because according to him, they were never pleaded by the petitioner in his petition and witness statement.
He also said that the counting of the ballot papers at the tribunal by INEC, in accordance with the orders of the tribunal lasted from October 7 to 20, saying that the genuineness of the ballot papers brought to the tribunal by INEC officials was not in doubt.

The tribunal declared that 'after sorting and recounting of the votes and deducting the number of the unsigned and un stamped votes from
the total votes recorded for the two candidates, Makarfi emerged winner with majority of lawful votes of 364, 801 against Datti Baba-Ahmed's 356, 579 votes.

'Makarfi scored the majority votes. Accordingly, the victory of the first respondent is set aside; the certificate of return should be withdrawn and be given to Senator Makarfi as the duly elected senator for Kaduna North Senatorial Zone.'
Dissatisfied with the November 14, 2011 decision of the tribunal, Datti again approached the appeal court, asking it to set aside the verdict of the lower tribunal.

But the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna penultimate Tuesday confirmed his sack by dismissing his appeal against the National Assembly Election Tribunal that nullified his election and ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
to issue his opponent, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, with Certificate of Return as the senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial Zone.

Ruling on the matter, the presiding judge, Justice Amina Augie said, considering the provision of Section 285, Sub-section 7 of the 1999 Constitution, which stipulated the time frame of 60 days for the hearing of appeal from election tribunal to be filed before the Appeal Court, the
the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the appeal.

Justice Augie in the 22-minute ruling, said though counsel to the appellant, Mr. Abbas Ibrahim argued that the delay in the hearing of the appeal was not caused by either of the parties involved in the case, the Constitution was very strict about the 60 days.

Politics / Igbo Still At The Bottom Of National Politics –kwankwaso by Move2(m): 6:55am On Jul 09, 2022
I like people of the South-East so much that even this Kwankwasiyya you hear, many thought it is Okonkwo and Sons. They said because an Hausa man can’t say Okonkwo and sons, he now turned it to Kwankwaso. One thing the South-East must learn, in addition to many other things, is that the South-East is good in terms of business; very hard-working, industrious but one area they must learn is politics. They are at the bottom line of national politics. If you look at the situation, they have lost out in the APC and the PDP. They have no presidential, no vice-presidential candidate. The only opportunity the South-East has to be president or vice president is with the NNPP. Coincidentally, the party was registered by an Igbo man from Anambra State 21 years ago. It is even their party, and it is only that I took it up and my growth did not start from the South, it started from my local government area about 30 years ago in Kano State.

What will be your advice to the people of the South-East?

This is the golden opportunity they have. If they lose this opportunity, it will be a disaster even for the country because the young men and women there think they are being sidelined. I have attained my current position because I worked very hard based on thinking, planning and projection of things. That’s why I am relevant to my local government area, state, etc. What the South-East doesn’t know is that if they miss this opportunity, it will be a disaster for them because they will continue to say they are been marginalised but no one is marginalising them. Leaving the APC and the PDP was a strategy, and the South-East must learn how to play politics. If I decide to become vice president to anybody in this country, the NNPP will collapse.

Why will the NNPP collapse?

It is because it is based on what we built in the last 47 years of very serious hard work. Thirty years ago, I was Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Before then, I was in the civil service for 17 years. That is what is holding the NNPP now. Someone was telling me that even if our friend wants to withdraw to accept VP, some people in the South-East will not accept. This is not strategic. Look at what happened with some of our friends in the South-West; they are very strategic especially my friend, Bola Tinubu. Eight years ago, he was strategic enough to say, ‘You take it for eight years and after eight years, I will take’. Now, whatever happened in those eight years, at least, he is holding the ticket of the ruling party in the country now. So, people have to be strategic, otherwise the implication of the South-East not
not being part of the NNPP is the total marginalisation. But the question is who marginalised them? Nobody wants to take any blame, and they will start hanging it on the Yoruba, Hausa or the Fulani or some others.
As the politics is today, this is the only opportunity for the South-East. I love them and I want to work with them. If for example, under the equation, I’m supposed to be the vice-presidential candidate and it will add value to the ticket, I will be very happy. The job of the vice-president is a very big one, especially in a responsible government. When I was in Kano State as governor, my deputy governor, (Abdullahi) Ganduje, was everywhere doing everything. When I finished, despite all the odds, I handed over to him. I think the problem in the South-East is a political issue and it must be tackled politically. If it goes like that, the Igbo will continue to detain the Igbo every Monday (sit-at-home) and other people in the South-East and kill others because of additional frustration.

What do you think is the way out to stop the agitation in the South-East?

The best for the South-East is for them to come and partner, maybe after eight years, after our term, they will say, ‘This man is the best for the country because he has stopped the security challenges of the country’. Nigerians will say ‘these are the people’, and eight years is just like two years. Eight years will come but if you are not prepared for it, it will come and meet you worse than eight years ago. They (South-East) have to be strategic.

Can the proposed alliance be termed as dead as many have claimed?

We are still flexible on the issue of running mate up till 15th of this month (July). We are waiting to get the right person. I’m so happy that there are many Nigerians. We have many options in the NNPP in the South to choose a good vice-presidential candidate; one of them is the Labour Party man (Peter Obi). Left to me, if it will solve the problem of the South-East and minimise the challenges of the region to the barest level, that’s why the NNPP wants to take its vice-president (from there). Under normal circumstances, anytime we are sworn in, because the problem is political, he (vice-president) will call the people and sit with them. At least, someone is there. If he likes, he can talk to them in Igbo (language) and see how it can be resolved. I am from the northern part of Nigeria and of course, everyone can tell that the solution to the happenings in my region is at our fingertips. It is just about talking to the people. As I said, no one is talking to them (people of the South-East). The Nigerian security agencies are above all the bandits, terrorists we have seen. It is just a matter of doing the right thing. We have the answer at our fingertips. If we add the political will, our young men and women who are in uniform will go and do their job.

Politics / 2023 Presidency- Neither Kwankwaso Nor Obi… by Move2(m): 9:46am On Jul 07, 2022
https://leadership.ng/neither-kwankwaso-nor-obi/

The issues around each one of them are, depending on the context in which they are analyzed, either specifically an advantage or otherwise to them as individual contestants. Just like all the other politicians, Kwankwaso and Obi are champions of some interests and are, in their own case, even agents of some sentiments that are anything but features or ingredients of national politics.

The two of them are most unlikely to be unaware of the absolute dismissal of their ambitions as unrealizable by a lot of Nigerians; an argument that is built on the real and perceived weaknesses of the platforms on which they are contesting and some dominant negative perceptions about each one them and which are being regularly re-enforced by some unpopular tendencies that they manifest in the course of their political interactions. NNPP’s rate of spread in even those areas or states where Kwankwaso considers as his support base and the LP’s opportunities in the South-East which is Obi’s original home and from where the party is expected to generate huge strength that it can use to penetrate other places are far less than what was imagined.

Additionally, both of them are, by a certain judgement, provincial politicians whose respective visions are not broad enough to accommodate even the basic aspirations of the peoples of places other than the ones from where they have hailed. Kwankwaso is as strange in the South-East or even the whole of the South as Obi is in the North, which means that neither of them can pull any reasonable votes from areas other than his, which precisely means that each is, more or less, a regional political hero whose influence is evidently limited.

Kwankwaso, having founded the Kwankwasiyya Movement which he continuously sustains and uses to intimidate his opponents, comes across as a gladiator whose capacity for the manipulation of the political process in his immediate environment is immense. His unrivalled popularity in Kano State which is Nigeria’s most populous geo-political entity and strong presence in some other Northern States are realities that have made him a prominent politician who visibly enjoys tremendous respect of some critical segments of the Northern political class.

But most of those factors that have constituted the basis of his popularity and prominence in some parts of the North are the reason for the extreme attack to which he is subjected in the Obi’s South-East and other parts of the South. Kwankwaso is to, for example, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPoB) an agent of the alleged Northern hegemony to which the group is vehemently opposed and therefore a bad news that should not be tolerated by all Igbos and, by extension, Southerners.
The story is same about Obi in the North as he is, certainly not without some good reasons, tagged as one of the chief promoters of all the divisive and the anti-North sentiments that are the basis of the IPoB’s agitation. The unarguably dominant perception that the activities of IPoB to which Obi is fully associated are practical expressions of the Igbo’s design to antagonize and cripple the North and its peoples has already made Obi a very hard sale in the region.

All these are the basic issues about Kwankwaso and Obi that will continue to
constitute a hindrance to any proposal or recommendation for a merger or alliance between them for the purpose of the contest for the presidency. It is yet to be seen how Kwankwaso and Obi, even as bearers of the same flag, can be helpful to each other, considering the fact that they represent conflicting sentiments and interests.

This explains the apparent collapse of almost all the efforts towards the concretization of the merger or collaboration idea with each one of them now weighing other options that can be beneficial to him. The Kwankwaso’s outright dismissal of the proposal that he should agree to be Obi’s presidential running mate and the latter’s clear determination to hold on to his ticket are an evidence that each will continue to run for the presidency Independent of the other, thereby validating the argument that each one of them can be only a spoiler of other people’s chances and not winner of election.

And from your link, following the needed amount of 300 police officers per 100K persons, you can see how far lagging behind we are. We are below half the recommended minimum.

The police say they have around 450,000 in the force, but some activists estimate there are over 1 million on the payroll.

Thousands of largely poor Egyptians fulfill their mandatory military service in the Interior Ministry, often as riot police on the frontlines at demonstrations.

Peter Obi believes that Nigeria is under-policed. That other African countries which are smaller than Nigeria have up to 1 million officers. I absolutely agree.
But where will the money to fund them come from? The current officers are poorly paid despite being too few in number.

No African country has 1 million police officers.
Nigeria still has one of the largest forces on the continent.

Politics / Wike: ‘it Will Be Political Suicide To Ignore Ortom, Fayose, Makinde, etc by Move2(m): 9:58am On Jul 06, 2022
Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jacob Mark, has advised the opposition party’s leadership to pacify aggrieved members.

Speaking on a television program, Jacob Mark said the doors to mending issues with Wike are still open.

According to him, the Rivers governor is very interested in settling issues in the PDP and won’t work against the opposition party.

I’m not too sure it is correct for anybody to assume that he (Wike) has shut his doors against the PDP, the party he has vowed to support to victory; the party he has reassured after returning from his trip,” Mark said.

“I think every other person in the party should take advantage of that, and people should climb down from their high horses, discard winners take it all away approach, and there must be no room for political arrogance where you disregard people who have the feelings of being ignored.

“You cannot at this stage be facing a big election we are talking about and ignore the people. I have seen the likes of governors who are together with Wike. You will be committing political suicide if you elect to ignore some people.
I have listened to former governors (David) Jang, (Ayo) Fayose, and I have listened to the voice of (Governor Seyi) Makinde, I heard from (Governor Samuel) Ortom, these are stakeholders of the party, and when you are going into a general election where you want to unseat a ruling party, you will be politically incorrect to ignore such people.”

Politics / 2023: Why Obasanjo Is Promoting Peter Obi In The North – Shehu by Move2(m): 9:46am On Jul 06, 2022
The chairman, Dialogue Group, Mahdi Shehu has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo is promoting the flagbearer of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in the North ahead of the 2023 elections because of his disdain for the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reports that Shehu made this known during an interview with Arise TV monitored by this publication, where he disclosed that Obasanjo has been visiting prominent personalities in the North to sell Peter Obi.
Speaking further about Obasanjo’s dislike for the APC national leader, Shehu added that the disdain came due to the extra courage, gut, audacity Tinubu had to take Obasanjo to court over the creation of extra local governments in Lagos during his tenure.

Shehu statement comes barely a week after the former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed regret at choosing Atiku Abubakar as running mate and eventual Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria between 1999 and 2007.

Politics / 2023 Presidency: Nothing ‘ll Change In Nigeria No Matter Who Wins – Hassan Saliu by Move2(m): 4:57pm On Jul 05, 2022
https://www.blueprint.ng/2023-presidency-nothing-ll-change-in-nigeria-no-matter-who-wins-hassan-saliu/

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the president Political Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, Professor Hassan Saliu in this interview with ABDULRAHMAN ZAKARIYAU, said regardless of the excitement among Nigerians, no matter who wins nothing will change.

Candidates have been talking about issues all past and current presidents dwelt on, are all these problems insurmountable?

I want to take off from the point of view of the character of the Nigerian state, the character of the Nigerian state is such that it’s not promotional of a progressive idea, or rapid development because its origin is rooted in colonialism.

Unless we change the character of the Nigerian state, whoever becomes the President, whether Atiku Abubakar, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Peter Obi or Kwankwaso nothing will change because the scope of performance has already been defined.
So for us, it’s the character of the state, the character of this state as it is today is anti-people. Nigeria was created as a new colonial outpost that exists solely to serve the interests of the western world.

The fundamental issue is that almost everyone, except the ruling class are suffering in Nigeria. They are being affected by the character of the Nigerian state that is not willing to serve the real interest of the Nigerian people. So ideologically, unless we change the
character of the Nigerian state, whatever structures put on it will not stand.

How do we move from this anti-people character of Nigeria’s ideology to the new political ideology you are advancing?

You see, some of our people have done extensive research on liberal democracy. And they conclude that we are putting too much hope on liberal democracy and that liberal democracy is an ideological construct that is meant to serve a purpose. Not the kind of purpose that we are ascribing to it. Some people have mentioned social democracy that looks like it in the sense that is also ideological flowing from the radical perspective. That is not to say countries that are practising social democracy are radical. We have the intermediate measurement representing a liberal country embracing social democracy, and we have pure socialist or about to be socialist embracing social democracy. But based on what people have said, and against the background that liberal democracy has multiplied the number of poor people in Nigeria, liberal democracy has multiplied the number of unemployed Nigeria, liberal democracy has not promoted all hands to be on deck, liberal democracy has slowed down level of development in Nigeria. So since liberal democracy is a round failure in Nigeria, why not try Social Democracy that has the potential to bridge the gap or promote popular participation.

So the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has also failed?

The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is not standing alone, it’s a Nigerian government with all the attributes of the Nigerian state. It cannot create and operate outside the social formation of Nigeria. So, I don’t think it’s different from the previous government. We argue that as long as the character of Nigeria state remains and its care for the privileged class at the expense of the mass majority, then
it won’t meet the kind of expectations Nigerians want.

Politics / Pastor Poju And The Lynch Mob by Move2(m): 9:07am On Jul 05, 2022
You already know the author of the above verses. It is no other than Poju Oyemade – the medic turned cleric; founder of the Covenant Nation and the initiator of The Platform, a national conversational podium that has not only provided a veritable outlet for engagement on matters of governance but also on the future of the country.

The pastor’s sins, we are told, is daring to stick a pin into the bubble of the amorphous movement that has now assumed the tag – Obidient – but which is in fact no more than a group of loud distraught supporters of the Labour Party presidential flag bearer, Peter Gregory Obi.

It wasn’t that the pastor spoke out of context; he merely spoke in the background of an evolving national conversation around the presidential politics, the preparedness of the candidates, the imperatives of groundwork and the whole question of the viability of the candidacies.

To be sure, he certainly did not call the candidate’s bonafide into question neither did he as much as call any candidate by name. Although he came across as one of those swayed by the so-called Peter Obi phenomenon, he probably felt compelled to put out some warning just in case someone out there might care enough to pay attention. Hence the well couched verses quoted above.

Even at that, we must make the point that the pastor didn’t say anything new that those with the most elementary knowledge of Nigerian politics have not said in one form or the other. To his hordes of followers, Peter Obi, the man who once ruled the relatively backwater state of Anambra, the ‘squeaky clean’ guy who daily mesmerises with stats, is supposed to be the new messiah at whose appearance all things should take a new turn or pivot. Yes; all of us, without question, must be Obi-dient! And so, nothing ill, no matter how tangential, is to be spoken about him!

Like a man schooled in the hard school of Nigerian politics, the pastor has apparently come to the understanding that the path to the presidency cannot be a walk in the park; that in a country of multiple complexities of faith, tribe, religion and social class, that any candidate for the high office requires a vast network of relationships that requires years of planning and nurture to operationalise; and that without that, the quest is as good as doomed; Only that Pastor Poju didn’t reckon with that Obidient school where dreams and virtual activism rule!

And this is even when he didn’t as much as refer to the rather competitive field in which veterans like Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party are running.

See how letting out the odds facing marginal runners as something of one to a million would be akin to grating on the raw nerve of the hordes of our angry netizens who fancy such talks as no more than an affliction of an old plague!

Compare this with the description of the presidential run of Barack Obama by ex-US President Bill Clinton as ‘fairy tale’.

For that reality check, a cautionary note to underscore the organisational imperative in the presidential quest, perhaps to foreclose a future alibi for anarchy in the event of a comprehensive failure that is all but guaranteed; a mob, already sworn to neither rhyme nor reason in their quest for change no matter how nebulous or ill-defined, has gone beyond merely pronouncing it as Satanic Verses to issuing a fatwa. Such benumbing superficiality and disdain for reasoned argument ought to leave the rest of the orderly society truly worried.

It certainly comes as a new twist to the evolving local variant of the cancel culture that seeks the pulling down of the dominion of national superstructure in the march to the fangled Eldorado.

And to think that a good number of the hounds currently baying for the blood of Pastor Poju probably knew nothing of their new found ‘messiah’ until his unveiling at that annual discourse that seeks to showcase the infinite possibilities of the Nigerian dream.

It is a tragedy that the pastor chose to delete the tweet. For an individual that has invested so much energy into the national cause, it is hardly the way to go. On the other hand, being a leader of a faith community – a community of diverse nationalities, he probably felt that the brewing controversies were needless – something of a distraction to his calling – hence the path of discretion.

Of course, the issues provoked by the crass intolerance, and the cancel culture are such that would not be forgotten in a hurry. Not anytime now or in the near future as the season of presidential politics goes into the full swing.

Clearly, if the events of the EndSARS movement and the ensuing tragedy and atavism unleashed in its aftermath are any reminders, it is that Nigerians have a lot to worry about in the activities of the group of tribesmen and other closet revolutionaries so consumed in their rage that they wouldn’t mind pulling the roof down over everyone’s heads.

Politics / Kwankwaso: it Will Be Very Difficult For Notherners To Vote Obi by Move2(m): 10:29pm On Jul 03, 2022
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained why he cannot be a running mate to a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, in the forthcoming presidential election.

Both men are in the race to become the next president when President Muhammadu Buhari completes his second term in office in May 2023.

While Kwankwaso is the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Obi will fly the flag of the Labour Party in the poll.

Amid calls for the duo to form an alliance as an alternative for Nigerians besides the two major political parties – All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Kano governor wants his Anambra counterpart to accept to be his running mate.

“The northerner voters have made up their minds on what to do; certainly NNPP, nobody can change it,” he said during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics where he was asked who the people of the North would vote for.

Although Kwankwaso said he would not mind the opportunity to become a vice president since he has no job at the moment, he explained the rationale behind contesting the presidential election and a candidate and not a running mate to a south-easterner.

“Unfortunately, there are many issues in the South East, and a northern voter is the worst-hit in this issue of maladministration in this country,” he asserted. “But even under that circumstance, a northern voter also believes that he is better with one united Nigeria.

“Therefore, most of the things that are happening in the South, especially in the South East; people are not comfortable with that and as long as you have somebody from there in any party, it will be very difficult for the northern voters to vote, and that’s the situation now.”

Opportunity For South East?
The NNPP presidential candidate, however, did not rule out the possibility of forming an alliance with his Labour counterpart, but only if the latter accepts to be his running mate.

According to him, his team is making consultations with various individuals, groups, and political parties in order to take the leadership of the country at all levels.

Kwankwaso stressed that an alliance with Obi was highly likely with the aim of coming together to work as a family and give Nigerians an alternative to the PDP and the APC.

He said, “We have seen the situation in the country today in terms of economy, in terms of security, in terms of education and infrastructure … and the voters of this country are yearning for a change and I believe we will only be fair to ourselves if we come together and bring out a real alternative for the people of this country and I am happy to say that even at the moment, the NNPP, even though very new in some ways – just about four months – is everywhere in this country.”

On the party to be used should an alliance is formed, the presidential candidate responded, “My belief is that there are so many modalities that can be worked out, it’s just a matter of getting the right calibre of people to sit down and look at the situation as it is.

“The major issue as it stands today is the issue of who becomes the president and who becomes the vice president and I believe this is the time really to advise – especially those who are positively behind the candidate of the Labour Party – that for me, I have seen an opportunity for the South East to be relevant in the next dispensation.”

“In PDP, they (the South East) are completely out, and so in the APC. The only opportunity now is the NNPP. I believe it is in the interest of Labour Party and the NNPP, and even in the interest of this country.”
