APC will do everything to win Lagos.
Posting results from LP stronghold. We all know that Amuwo Odofin, Oshodi/Isolo, Eti-Osa and Ojo will go to LP. Kosofe and Surulere will be closely contested. The other 14 LGAs will be swept by APC including Alimosho and Ikeja that were lost in the presidential elections.
PoliticsThe Face Of Labour Party In Lagos State by MrBlock(op): 7:43pm On Mar 14, 2023
As we move into the second wave of the Obidient movement in the 2023 general elections, it would be nice to know who will represent the party at the polls to fight for the mandate of the Governor of Lagos State.

While opposition parties have had difficulty finding any dirt on the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the party #ObiDatti, same will not be said about GRV and his deputy.

I believe the Labour Party should have done a better job in selecting a more marketable candidate that stands in line with what the party and especially with what Peter Obi represents.

omohayek:
Everything you've said is true and should be obvious to any thinking person with experience of governance in Nigeria. The alternative to Alpha Beta isn't some imaginary corps of incorruptible, highly professional civil servants, but the very same crooked, indolent public employees whose constant demands for bribes will put the supposed "corruption" of Alpha Beta to shame. All one has to do is look at Lagos before Alpha Beta, or any of the other states not using the services of firms like it, to see that this is indeed the case.

The thing is, though, that most of the people criticising Alpha Beta aren't doing so out of any real concern about good governance, but out of hatred of Tinubu, who they are accustomed to blaming for any and everything that goes wrong in their lives. As far as these people are concerned, a candidate who destroys Tinubu's power-base is worth championing, even if the cost of doing so is wrecking the finances and livability of Lagos - especially as so many of them on here don't even live in Lagos in the first place, and will therefore never have to bear any of the consequences. That's why they are happy to spout nonsense about how the imaginary "N5bn a month" being "stolen" by Alpha Beta will somehow pay for all the extravagant spending promises being made by GRV - they don't care whether it's true or not, only that it fools enough voters to give their stalking horse a victory.
Couldn't agree more. GRV is a no-no. Lagos is not a sand beach where experimental sand castles can be built. One wrong policy can set us aback years of hardwork and billions of Naira.

Alphabeta has no relevance whatsoever. There is nothing Alphabeta claims to do that LIRS cannot do. It is just a conduit pipe for corruption.
Like I explained, LIRS would need to massively beef up workforce to do what Alpha Beta is currently doing. That will gulp up whatever savings you think would have been made. Also, it is a mirage to think that Alpha Beta makes N5bn every month. According to the ex-MD of Alpha Beta, total commission earned by the company was N150bn over a 10 year period. That's about N1.25b every month.

The first step to doing that is cutting waste. The N5bn a month to Alphabet will go some way to achieving that.
When you cut Alpha Beta off, who will then collect the tax? Or maybe you're not aware that LIRS doesn't have the number of personnel to obtain tax across Lagos state. The N5bn monthly savings you want to make will not cover the cost of additional salaries to equip LIRS plus other running costs not to talk of the wastage from LIRS staff corruption.

My thoughts exactly. Politely speaking, your initial comment was devoid of objectivity. It would be great if you approach politics from a principled perspective. This way, you can be clear on your ideology regardless of who is involved. This would be particularly important, maybe not this election season, but in many elections to come. Enjoy your weekend.

People didn't troop out in droves to burn banks during ASUU strike, that's to tell you the pain of the average Nigerian in this situation. At this rate, Nigeria will fall fast into a recession.

Gourdoinc:
please read slowly and comprehend sir. I know what I meant when I mentioned his name is kaduna. Ahamdu bello wasn't the first victim, nevertheless he was a victim. How the northerners felt ? They showed it twice by killing hundreds of thousands of innocent men and women. Equitable ? Well depends on who you ask. All is fair in love and war. Now a war ensues isn't it. Millions are killed both sides. War is declared to end , with no victim no vanquished. The east lost the war. Their lands were made desolate , their People made poor. If there is no vanquished because you still want us all as Nigerians, what was done to rebuild the east. Both physically and otherwise.

Why is an igbo man still treated with contempt and anger by the political elite and electorate. Why isn't he trusted if truly there was no vanquished. Oh maybe we need to admit the truth that the igbos lost the war, maybe that explains why he is 5percent , maybe that explains why he is mocked as a roamer whose lands were made desolate.

Do you now wonder why some People feel unwelcomed and desire to leave ?

So I ask again. My initial question. Why is the war on the igbo still in progress
Gourdoinc:
I know what I meant when I mentioned his name is kaduna.
You didn't mention his name as Kaduna. I did. I stated Major Kaduna Nzeogwu as one of the original coup plotters but you said it was Chukwuma. I then corrected you stating that both Chukwuma and Kaduna Nzeogwu are the same person.

Why did you say you mentioned his name as Kaduna when you didn't?

Gourdoinc:
Ahamdu bello wasn't the first victim
If Ahmadu Bello was not the first victim, who was? You kept asking me to state the first victim which I did reluctantly only for you to argue against it without any fact to back your argument. Again, why are you so interested in who the first casualty of the coup was? State the name and give details to back your arguement.

Every other thing you mentioned are not part of the argument so I won't respond so as not to derail the conversation. Remember, the backbone of this arguement is that the Igbos are the plotters of the Jan 15, 1966 coup which you have been trying to refute. Kindly provide your closing remarks to this argument so that we can call it a day.

Gourdoinc:
wrong. chukwuma and his gang were the front for the enablers of the coup. I can give you the entire names, but that will cause you to not sleep well.

There was a first victim, in every war, someone first dies, someone died first, who was he. What tribe was he, would he have died if it was a coup for igbo agenda ? The Times were different my bro, nationalist views had more weight than the tribal views held today. Alot of people were zikists, awolowo and ahmadu were tribal, if ahmadu had to go, why didn't awo also go. Use to tongue to count your teeth.
I'm not sure why you want to debate this with you.

I already mentioned Chukwuma in my list. Chukwuma is the same person as Kaduna Nzeogwu. His full name is Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu. Clearly, you have a sketcky knowledge of the details.

The first leg of the coup was through a military training operation called Exercise Damisa. Nzeogwu led soldiers in training to Ahmadu Bello's house and shot him dead along side his wives. Ahmadu Bello was the Premier of the Northern Region at that time. Can you imagine how traumatizing this must have been for the northern people?

now he said the original huh?? Cmon complete the names joor. Be brave. While at it, please state the name of the first victim of the coup and his tribe.

You lots want to distort history as you have done to suit your narrative that it was an igbo coup.
The 2 names I omitted are Major Adewale Ademoyega and Major Timothy Onwuatuegwu. They later joined in the plot but we're not the original consipators.

I'm not sure what you mean by "first victim". A large number of high ranking civilian and military personnel were killed majority of whom were Hausa and Yoruba.

After the coup, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi took over power as the Head of State.

Oh really. Who executed the Jan 15 coup. Name them. Tell us their tribes. Maybe you can have your own history class here early.
The original conspirators of the coup were:

Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna
Major Donatus Okafor
Major Christian Anuforo
Major Humphrey Chukwuka
Captain Ogboona Oji
Major Kaduna Nzeogwu

Good. Teach the history of the Nigerian civil war. It will help those deluded yoruba and northerners to understand what happened in Nigerian history and how badly they have behaved ever since.

Would help to stop the unwarranted bias, hatred and marginalisation of ndi igbo and minorities.

The war of guns ended in 1970, yet they continue to wage civil wars of hate, marginalisation, humiliation, threats and wickedness against the igbos and minority tribes in Nigeria.
Maybe you also need to a refresher course on the people that executed the Jan 15, 1966 coup, there you would find your answer as to why the Northerners are so weary of the Igbos and how the Yoruba's have always stayed neutral.

Ajegunle economist.. what type of investment? Annual inflation is 30%. Naira has lost 40% of its value… so you need an investment that can give you 120% on annual basis.. which kain investment be that… MMM? Even banks are not paying out $€£ that was physically deposited into Naija dom accounts. Na textbook professor you be??
Bros, easy nau. Inflation is just 17% p.a. and the loss in Naira value you are talking about is based on data from parallel market rates. According to IMF, annual loss in Naira value is about 10% - this would have reflected in the annual inflation rate figures.

The truth is that Nigeria needs dollars so any negotiations that can be made to keep these dollars in Nigeria is a welcome idea. Emirates is even willing to use dollars to buy aviation fuel but our government can't take up that opportunity due to their inefficiencies. Quite sad the country we live in.

However wrong this is, the onus is on CBN to enforce.
But remember the vendor buys aviation fuel in dollars, and Naira has been very unstable lately.

You could buy aviation fuel when $1=600 then you sell it in Naira to airlines, only for you to want to restock and $1=710. That’s a huge loss.
Large companies like Emirates will not buy fuel using Black Market rates.

By first understanding repatriation is not the problem. Round tripping and corruption is.

Remember this government once blamed crypto and Aboki FX for dollar rise against the Naira. How has the Naira fared since then.

They are leaving the root cause and treating the symptoms. This step will further chase away foreign investors.
Very true. Excellent viewpoint.

So they should convert their money to depreciating Naira
Certainly not a good idea from the perspective of Emirates but if you are the Nigerian Government, how would you solve this problem given that you don't even have enough FX to go round.
TravelRe: Emirates To Reduce Flights Frorn Dubai To Nigeria From 11 Per Week To 7 by MrBlock: 2:46pm On Jul 30, 2022
dettolgel:
I suspect the problem is fx related on the side of Nigerian government.

As for Emirates I think not throwing in more money when they are sure of even getting it out is a good decision. They are probably increasing the number of flights in country where they can easily access their funds.

Financial and investment funds affects operations because you need cash flow to pay staffs, service equipment import parts and pay for other expenses related to operation?
I quite agree with you. I was trying to see it from the perspective of the Nigerian Government with regards to scarcity of FX and especially where naira has hit parallel market all-time low of N710 for this same reason. If you were incharge of the economy, would you continue to churn out USD when you know you can't even generate enough?

For me, I would prefer government to mutually align with Emirates on how they can profitably keep their funds here. The write up mentioned Emirates wanting to buy fuel with these funds. I think this is a good start.
