Twelve persons have died in a fatal motor accident in Nasarawa Doka, along the Kaduna-Abuja road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday, August 30.

The State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 30, said the crash involving a Toyoto Hiace bus was caused by brake failure.

"Security agencies have reported to the Kaduna State Government that 12 persons have died and six others are injured following a ghastly road traffic crash which occurred on Monday afternoon in Nasarawa Doka, along the Kaduna-Abuja road in Kachia LGA," he stated.

"The crash involved a lone Toyota Hiace bus conveying 18 passengers from Zaria to Abuja. The cause of the crash has been identified as a brake failure following a tyre explosion. Twelve passengers died on the spot. The six injured passengers were rushed to hospital."

Aruwan said Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed sadness at the report, and sent condolences to the families of the perished victims, as he offered prayers for the repose of their souls. He wished the injured persons a quick recovery.

The Governor implored citizens to continue to drive safely, pay attention to the condition of their vehicles and observe traffic rules as they ply major highways.

A father of five, Zakaria Waye, was arraigned in Chief Magistrate Court 4 in Yola, Adamawa State, for allegedly assaulting his wife, Ruth Zakaria.

It was gathered that the accused from Girei town in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa, allegedly broke his wife's lower jaw and damaged her left eye during a quarrel which happened on Wednesday, August 25.

The victim, Ruth, could not talk when she was brought to court on Thursday, August 26, as she had undergone surgery to stitch and wire her broken jaw.

It was further gathered that Zakaria constantly beat his wife, sometimes in the presence of their children whenever misunderstanding crops up between them.

However, Zakaria pleaded not guilty to the charges of causing a grievious hurt among other offences.

He told the court that his wife should be blamed for the trouble in the family, alleging that she held his private part hence he had to beat her.

The court presided by Magistrate Abdulrazak Adamu, ordered that the accused be remanded at Yola Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to November 22, 2021, for mention.

The funeral of the seven women who died in a ghastly auto crash is ongoing in Bomadi community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

The deceased women perished in the accident which occurred last Saturday August 21, while returning from a relative’s wedding ceremony in Agbor.

The victims, Blessing Akpokabowei, 28; Fresh Akabolouseigha, 46; Fresh Aleigiai-Ere, 47; Bridget Teibogiren, 53; Mariana Donbrate, 53; Mary Priscilla Mieyebo, 56; and Rose Aladin-Donbraye, 61, are all from Agorodei Peile Quarters in Bomadi community.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has sent his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

In a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Okowa sympathised with the families of the victims as well as Bomadi Local Government and the entire Ijaw people on the tragic incident.

He commiserated with the people of Peretoru communities where one of the dead hailed from.

"It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commiserate with the families of seven Bomadi ladies that lost their lives in a fatal motor accident on Saturday, August 21, 2021, along Orogun-Agbara road on their way from a wedding at Agbor.

"Indeed, their death has caused a dark cloud and great sorrow for their families. On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Chairman and people of Bomadi Local Government Area and the families of our departed women.

"Their untimely death has undoubtedly caused great pain to their families and I pray that such tragedy will never occur again. May God grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and may their souls rest in peace.” the governor stated.
