Four persons have been confirmed dead in an auto crash at Emuhu axis of the Benin-Asaba Expressway, Delta State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims were burnt to death after a diesel-laden tanker burst into flames after colliding with an 18-seater commercial bus.

A witness said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps made efforts to rescue some of the passengers on the bus.

He said, “Four persons died on the spot, while many who were injured were taken to hospitals.

“The accident caused gridlock on the busy road, but security agents, including the police, were on ground to divert traffic to alternative routes.”

The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the accident.

Increasing menace of road traffic crashes
He said, “Four persons died, while many others who sustained injuries were rushed to hospitals.”

The crash happened barely 24 hours after seven wedding guests died in an accident at Orogun, in the Ughelli North LGA of the state.

A first-class final-year student of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Blessing Kalu, has been killed by a truck in Umudike Oboro in the Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

The victim who is an indigene of Nkporo, in the Bende LGA of Abia State, had boarded a motorcycle to a gas station to fill her cylinder up with cooking gas, and was on her way home when the accident happened.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the motorcycle Kalu boarded was on the verge of overtaking the truck when the accident happened. She was knocked down and thereafter started breathing heavily. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Kalu who bagged a first-class in Entrepreneurial Studies student, finished her final examination last Friday. She went to church on Sunday, August 22 for thanksgiving and sadly, lost her life on Monday, August 23. Her body has since been deposited in the morgue.

May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

Men of the Imo state police command have killed a notorious armed robber simply identified as Bugatti said to have terrorized residents of Nsu Community in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, with a police revolver pistol found on him.

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, CSP Michael Abattam, said Bugatti met his loo on Friday, August 20, after vigilante members of the community spotted the suspect who is said to be the leader of a notorious armed robbery gang, and immediately alerted the police.

''The community's vigilante group immediately alerted the police patrol team within the area and they moved to where the suspect and his gang were hiding in the bush. On sighting the security men, they opened fire . And during the gun duel, the gang leader of the group, "Bugatti " was neutralised and his Revolver Pistol recovered to the station. While the other two suspects escaped with bullet wounds.

When the a Revolver Pistol was checked, it was discovered that, it was one of the police Revolver Pistol that was carted away during the #ENDSARS saga when the Police Area Command Headquarters at Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State was attacked by hoodlums. ''the statement read.

According to Abattam, efforts are being made to arrest the two suspects who escaped with bullets wounds and other members of the gang presently in hiding.

A 200-level student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State has allegedly committed suicide inside one of the hostel rooms on Friday, August 20.

The Nation reports that the deceased student who hailed from Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, was said to be studying Industrial Physics. It was gathered that the body was reportedly found inside one of the hostel blocks dangling with a rope around his neck.

An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said

“The deceased locked himself inside the room and when the door was broken, he was seen dangling with a rope around his neck.”

Another source who described the deceased as a quiet and calm student, adding that he never showed any sign of depression before the incident.

Reacting to this development, the Chief Security Officer of the Institution, Ken Chukwura, said the deceased’s roommates have been invited for further questioning while investigation had commenced. He however called on the students to go about their activities without fear as the situation was under control.

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police command, Ikenga Tochukwu, described it as unfortunat,e adding that an investigation had commenced.
