Northern Governors are standing by the constitutional provision of two terms of four years for the President and Governors, as opposed to the idea of a single term of either five, six or seven years. The governors made the declaration after a meeting in Abuja on Thursday night. The Chairman of the Northern Nigerian Governors Forum, who is also the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, read the communiqué after the meeting, which dragged into the early hours of this morning. President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Senate have been pushing for a single term for both the President and the Governors. While Jonathan wants a single term of seven years, the Senate is recommending five years. Our correspondent gathered that the governors believed that the next President will come from their region and that it would be unhelpful for them to endorse a single term, believing that it could boomerang. The Forum also objected to the creation of State Police, but resolved to prevail on the Federal Government to embark on Police Reform that will assist the States in control and management of Police affairs, and further emphasis on a sound philosophy for modern policing.” On other issues relating to constitutional amendments, the governors: • Agreed that each state be allowed to negotiate its own Minimum Wage and that there should not be a National Minimum Wage; • Decided not to support the recognition of the six geo-political zones in the country and that the idea may only be recognised “for political considerations alone but not be enshrined in the Constitution;” • Called for the retention of the immunity clause in the Constitution; • Resolved that the Shore/Offshore dichotomy be reverted, and agreed to meet with the Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in their zones, as well as the members of the National Assembly to deliberate further on the proposed amendment. The governors also constituted a committee to study the Petroleum Industry Bill and advise the Forum on it. |

make una relax abeg the same guy that did all that could have destroyed it lets leave all this ethnic support, soludo na brilliant politician. I prefer him to sanusi but lets just call a spade a spade. |
Common guys haba!! which one be all this praise for soludo, the dude transformed the banking sector no doubt but we all know how he ended it but all this ethnic support despite his shortcomings is funny and unreal, the guy failed at the end lets admit. And yes Sanusi is brilliant but he is an ethnic bigot, a northern instrument to serve the norths agenda and also a islamic fanatic. I hope I have been objective enough LOL |
can you guys just stop fighting ![]() show some respect for one another , |
The comments on this thread are scary. I'm so sure people personality in nairaland would be much different form their normal life personality. It has to be otherwise Nigeria would have been a warzone at the moment. You guys will probably drink beer together in real life and get along normally but not on nairaland. |
@Maximip: thanks 4 d reply but I actually never looked @ thiings from that perspective, I'm a yoruba christian and I love my yoruba muslim people with a passion so your theory won't work in the southwest. In between your the first person to reply a question from me on this forum. I'm a new member, thanks! |
Quick question, will nigeria develop quiker as a nation or when she's broken down in component parts into Oodua republc, Arewa ,Biafra and others ?? That will determine my tendency. |
Back in the days I saw saworoide, tolu wa nile, Igodo, those were classics. Check out for stuffs like that. Don't let's derail the thread lol! |
Putting aside his reponse to the joke called 'national honour', he's probably one of the few people I respect in this country. T sdoesnt come as a surprize to me. You need to have seen his contributions in the assembly. Kudos! |
@Ileke-idi, I'm a new member(bout a week) and I have known you for a very long time even B4 I joined nairaland, nywz quick question, are people actually paid/sponsored to talk/post/support antagonize other opinions or perception on this forum? If true that would be a real eye opener for me. |
and getting some much needed rest. A look at my profile suggests I have 206 posts since January 2006 so that should tell you I don't spend all my time on nairaland. Infact, I can't access nairaland from my work pc. Anyways, what kind of job are you looking for? Are you in Nigeria?
1 Can sleep well
