Education / Re: Should I Apply For Medicine Considering My Age? by mrintellectual(m): 6:27am On Nov 05, 2019
I will advice that you apply for both DE and UTME. You are still very young.

At 26, I applied using DE for MEDICINE, I didn't gain admission.
At, 27, I applied using UTME for MEDICINE, I scored 303, I didn't gain admission for Medicine.

Finally, at 28, I applied for Medicine using UTME, and I have gained admission.

I hope this answers your question. Age is not a barrier at all to your dreams. So, go for it. You are still young.

Education / How Scoring 300+ In UTME Need Not Be A BIG DEAL by mrintellectual(m): 6:00am On Oct 30, 2019
When you heard that someone scored 303, 310, 325, 344, etc, in the UTME, did you see it as a feat beyond your reach? Did you think you are not so smart? Did you think it was only for some kind of students, or just merely by luck? Are you going to write the 2020 UTME, as a first timer, or after several attempts? Let's talk.

JAMB's UTME, or any other exam, need not be a big deal. You too can raise the cut off point for your course in your institution of choice by scoring very high marks. I am a success story, and I have so many success stories, by the grace of God. Not for too many years though, but I have been in the system for not less than 9 years.

Like I always tell my students, if you desire a high score or grade, you can get it, if you know how, and you go for it. You don't need shortcuts or malpractice. You are just good enough for that lofty dream or idea. Don't look down on yourself.

So, let's talk here, or on WhatsApp 08145006010 (not available for phone calls or SMS yet, only WhatsApp)

I will show you how to study and ace any exam, I will tell you what materials you need, I will be glad to help out. I can also be a study friend, through it all, God helping us, till you gain admission to your dream course.

I am Stephen, sincerely yours.

Some of these Nigerian pastors are bringing shame and reproach over the honest ones.

I don't get why people would want to use the establishment of churches to their own advantage. . .

This is wrong and perpetrators of such act should be treated as criminals.

When allegations are made, don't jump to conclusions. The man has been found to be guiltless, that is, not guilty.

This is 10 years after the allegation. The pastor, Sunday Adelaja has come out clean.

What the media does is to spoil someone's name. When the person is found not to be guilty anymore, he is left alone. The case updates goes unreported.

Following the above post, and my resolve to put an end to this menace, this evil called examination malpractice. I thought of an idea.

Let's start naming the schools that you know which are involved in examination malpractice.
Can we? I just hope we can.

I was told that a woman washed her bumbum, and used the water to prepare Amala.

If you eat out, you eat all sorts. Do you think it is mere good cooking skills that make people to overcrowd at eateries?

Do you think that it is merely ordinary for you to despise home cooked food for Iya Basira rice? Come on.

This thing is not tribe-centric, people are doing whatever they can, called aajo or juju, to drive sales. Even the companies selling packaged foods, bread, drinks, snacks, biscuits, etc. Don't ever believe that the compulsive buying towards them is ordinary. Never! Even those Indian or Chinese companies here.

Just pray before eating whatever, reduce eating out, ensure you wash fruits and vegetables properly before consumption.

Update:

DAPO ABIODUN suspends the N3700 school fees in Ogun state schools.
Politics / Re: Seyi Makinde And Dapo Abiodun: Who Is More Masses-friendly? by mrintellectual(m): 8:06am On Sep 15, 2019
afroniger:
Let each state do what works for it. Instead of harping on 'free' education, what we should be concerned about is QUALITY education delivery, be it free or not. Ogun has the largest monthly wage bill in the country (even larger than Lagos'). Ogun monthly wage bill is over N9-billion naira monthly! Lagos' own is close to N7-biliion. Oyo's is just a little over N5-billion per month which its N2-million average monthly IGR cannot even cover.

Ogun monthly IGR is averaging around N7-biliion per month which isn't enough to cover it's 9-billion wage bill, yet you are expecting 'free' education when even teachers can barely get paid monthly.

Unless IGR is dramatically improved, there's no way state governors will not borrow to pay salaries (like Makinde did recently when he borrowed N10-billion). Unless we tell ourselves the truth and trim some of the overbloated civil service, we will not make headway, particularly in the SW. Money to subsidize 'free education' has to come from somewhere.

Get more people out of poverty, and the same people who couldn't pay N3700 will gladly pay N37000, or even N370, 000.

That's my point, once people are still poor, and the tool to lift them out of poverty, which is education is not given to them, the cycle of poverty will continue.

See above my suggestions to Dapo Abiodun on how to reduce the number of poor people in the state.

It's every parents pride to send their children and wards to school, but education cannot be compulsory, if a fee is attached to it, in the public schools.

Makinde in my opinions even though I am from Ogun. Abiodun have a lot infront of him.. Amosun stubbornness have not made him settle down properly.

With the proximity of Ogun to Lagos state, Abiodun can only try.. Amosun left so many abandoned projects scattered through out the state.

But @ op, you already reached your conclusion

Just my opinions. I pray Dapo Abiodun settles down quickly to move Ogun state forward. Education in Ogun state is currently a far cry from the expected.
Politics / Seyi Makinde And Dapo Abiodun: Who Is More Masses-friendly? by mrintellectual(m): 7:42am On Sep 15, 2019
Recently, someone tried to compare H E Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun state with, H E Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo state, in the policies regarding Education. I think this is unnecessary. However for the purpose of the intellectual engagement, let's do so.

If you look at the first picture below, you will see a circular showing how much students in schools in Ogun state should pay, N3700. Many will say, how much is that? The truth is that it is so much, if we still want to insist that education till the secondary school level should still be compulsory. So many Nigerians, and Ogun state indegenes and dwellers are poor.

Another person said, is a case of unfulfilled promise, showing the Pact Gov Dapo Abiodun made with teachers. The pact is with "teachers" not primary and secondary school students. So, don't be disappointed.

Secondly, there is no tuition included. Technically you can still call it "free education". The problem I have with this type of free education is that, it is no more compulsory to go to school.

Thirdly, you cannot compare "omo Tinubu", with Seyi Makinde who is a known lover of the masses before assuming office. I have known Asiwaju's people to always believe that all people should pay heavily for education. Mr Fashola is a case study. That year when he was invited to speak at the popular Trenchard Hall. He said that we are paying so little for education, suggesting education should be an expensive commodity. The case of Dapo Abiodun is even manageable.

Ask how much is being paid in state schools, The Technical University established by Abiola Ajimobi, OOU of Ogun state, UNIOSUN of Osun state, etc. If not for the protest of students of LASU, school fees there would have been on the high side.

With all these, it will be good if Gov. Dapo Abiodun can work to reduce the number of poor people in the state, by
1. Providing Government sponsored financial or business training to Ogun dwellers.

2. Providing massive vocational training and empowerment with start up capital, like Patrick Okowa is doing. He can establish vocational training villages. This will be less money consuming like building overhead bridges. He should just focus on building the bridge between the poor and the rich.

When he lifts more people out of poverty, then more people can afford to pay N37000, instead of N3700.

3. He should ensure that there is strict monitoring of schools in the state. This should be a weekly exercise of the inspectors. And they should submit the report to the governor's table, at least every month.

Education should be well sponsored by the government, and Oyo state government is faring better in this regards. Ogun state's Dapo Abiodun, should copy the giant strides of Seyi Makinde. I must not close this without commending the empowerment scheme, the Ogun State Job Portal, recently launched.

Both South West Governors should both cooperate to uplift the region. I will miss the past governor of Lagos State, Governor Ambode, he has imparted many lives, including mine.

Back to Ogun state, "Ise ti ya o, Omo Ogun, Ise ya".

Education / UTME 2020: Reasons Why JAMB Should Assist NIMC Officials by mrintellectual(m): 5:21am On Sep 03, 2019
Following the gist wey don dey spread like wild fire that people wey wan write the 2020 UTME will need to enroll for the NIN.

It's such a welcome development, as this will assist in curbing cases of impersonation and checkmate examination malpractice, as anyone caught doing examination malpractice, is already doing what I will call character suicide . The sin will just be following you everywhere, you'll need to do public confession to tell the world that you are now a changed or born again person.

Back to my totori.

To many of us, the kind way official bureaucracy dey slow things down at various NIMC offices accross the nation is really baffling

When you register for identification at the NIN and it takes like forever for you to get enrolled. I started my enrollment at ILORIN. The first error, when I placed my thumb on the finger print scanner, it brought out someone else. I was wowed! So, two Nigerians can have the same finger print. To speak non scientifically now, could it be that he is my twin brother, probably he was stolen at the ward during my delivery? JUST KIDDING.

The issue was somehow fixed, but I kept on visiting to check the status of my enrollment. I was a corp member then. So, one year ellapsed, and of course, I had to leave Kwara state. Arriving at Ogun state, the palava was the same. People will just sit for ages long, without any hope of being able to get the identity card.

I have not even gotten my NIN not to talk of getting the National Identity Card, since 2017! Am I not a Nigerian?

In order therefore not to put our children and youths into unnecessary stress and difficulty thereby preventing them from writing the 2020 UTME, JAMB should hastily offer to help.

People like me can offer free service, FREE SERVICE, exactly, if they need more hands. I can do the work of three people put together. When I see how sluggish our people being paid with our taxes when we go to them for the services they get paid to do, they do as if they are doing us a favour.

Since JAMB is very competent in keeping a database, let NIMC work hand in hand with them to make things easier for students. Also, you guys should buy quality fingerprint scanners. All these fake scanners that people will have to stay long trying to thumb print is frustrating. At least no be only you dey require the thumbprint that we find effortlessly done elsewhere. Many of us have phones with fingerprint scanners. Kilo was de ti tiyin fi le bi oju eja?

Just before I wrap it up, all this common attitude of staff members of JAMB and NIMC shouting on applicants is very wrong. They are your customers, treat them with respect. JAMB and NIN should stop bullying their customers. It's not fair.

In conclusion, both bodies should assist one another since NIN is now required to register for UTME 2020. Let me stop here.

I am Stephen.

It's no news that before you can qualify as a dietitian you need to undergo a one year Dietetics Internship in an accredited teaching hospital or tertiary health facility in Nigeria.

If you know about any internship application notice kindly submit the links or advert here. It will be helpful for someone sometime who comes across this page.

If you are a Nutritionist in training or a graduate, you need to start applying immediately you graduate, to avoid waiting longer than you will expect.

I am also thinking about creating a WhatsApp group. If interested my WhatsApp number is 08145006010. If you have an existing WhatsApp group, kindly make it known. I hope Nairaland moderators allow this anyway.

Cheers.
