Music/Radio / Re: Ep,mixtape And Album by mrjuwon: 12:33am On Jan 12, 2013
EPs - Short album, usually should be 3-5 songs. Max 30 mins. So basically a longer Single.

Mixtape - is basically a collection of songs with fresh material or other peoples' material which another person decides to remake. The big selling point is, whoever owns the mixtape cannot sell or make financial profits from it if it contains other people's material because it will require sample clearance and other business arrangements. Whereas if the mixtape contains hundred percent of the artiste's own work, the artiste can decide to sell it for example, Drake's "So far Gone" which came out as a free mixtape first and he later on decided to repack (mostly engineered properly) it and sell for $5. There were samples on the mixtape which Drake had to clear before he could sell it. That is why most artistes usually release most of their unreleased materials as mixtapes. The Weeknd did the same - repackaged his three mixtapes added three tracks and put it up for sale. Usually because they cannot get sample clearance for the song or is just a rubbish song.

Album - Lets just call an album your dissertation. Meaning, it is well referenced if you used sources, it is usually more than 5 songs and it should make for compelling reading. I hope that analogy explains what an album is. Lack of referencing is what causes artistes to be sued for making money of the album without paying royalties (sometimes, money isn't even exchanged but the original of the song must agree to your usage of their song in your own body of work).

Music/Radio / Re: Kanye West Sets To Drop D'banj From G.o.o.d music label by mrjuwon: 12:22am On Jan 12, 2013
I am not a big fan of rumours, but this seems a bit plausible considering all the evidence out there in regards to the body of work D'banj has produced post Don Jazzy. That being said, Don Jazzy still has the beats but no star power. Please do not those Mavin tings. Wande Coal is the only one whose name shall be spoken. Plexi Nexus or whatever that album was called faded faster than...yes faded. So lets wait and see, it will be interesting to see the developments from this.
Music/Radio / Re: Wande Coal Fights Don Jazzy by mrjuwon: 9:47am On Sep 02, 2009
As much as I doubt the legit status of this so called piece of news, I must say if indeed it was true, Mo Hits would be the eventual loser of this fall out. Yes Wande might be short of dough for a period, his vocals would work anywhere given any good talented producer e.g. Jesse Jagz, ID Cabasa etc. And Mohits would be stuck with now crooner. And no D'Banj is not a crooner, listen to Move Your Body for evidence. The backing vocal provided by Wande Coal was on point and made the song hotter. It would be unfair to deny the amount of vocal contributions that Wande Coal has made to a huge percentage of songs that have come out of the Mo Hits label.
Just like you need mortar to hold the cement blocks together, Wande's vocal is needed to hold some of the good and some of the disjointed verses supplied in Mo Hits tracks together.

Music/Radio / Re: Dat Rigga Raw And Desperates Chicks by mrjuwon: 12:55am On Sep 29, 2008
Man Nigga raw is seriously talented. You just have to pay him his dues. His debut was fire, but his sophomore is straight fire. As a Yoruba guy, it just encourages me to learn Ibo just so I can understand and rap it better lol
Music/Radio / Re: My Grind From Mo'hits Of The Hook by mrjuwon: 5:08pm On Sep 28, 2008
I am not asking for money neither am I preventing the song from being spread, matter of fact it is the opposite way. Its all about promoting the song. I was the one who sourced the song and put it up for people to download. All I am saying is he references the source of the origination. It is just common courtesy to say where you got it from. If I get a song from somewhere, i always write where I got it from as a way of acknowledgement. Its just a simple case of respecting someone's work.

In reference to your "mumu" finishing point, there is really no need for that. if you have problems expressing your opinions, you should really keep them to yourself or learn to better express yourself as a fully functioning adult.
Music/Radio / Re: My Grind From Mo'hits Of The Hook by mrjuwon: 2:31am On Sep 28, 2008
Really MC Walka, the song is up for download on your blog yet the link for your download is stolen from my blog: worldfamousnaijablog.com , please show some type of courtesy and at least reference the source of where you got your material. Don't just steal links like that without saying where you got it from. Its very rude. Thank you for reading the blog.

Music/Radio / Re: P-Square, Asa, Faze, D'Banj & 9ice All in The Running For Mobo Awards by mrjuwon: 8:07pm On Sep 21, 2008
to be honest, i think this is a close battle between d'banj and 9ice. D'banj has a big following in London most especially in South London area. 9ice is d only artiste on d list dat seems closest to challenging him.
Music/Radio / Re: Who The Hell Is This Gino Guy by mrjuwon: 3:52am On Sep 01, 2008
I was able to listen to Gino's album Pain plus work in its entirety and its quite impressive to say the least. Gino is a Nigerian rapper in answer to the post question. I have been comparing to Naeto's and I am having trouble as they are both good but there is just something about Gino. I believe he is one of the best kept rap secrets in Nigeria and one day I hope he gains his shine. Check out his entry and delivery in the Owen Gee video if you need prove as to how good this dude is. Also check out his farabale video.
Music/Radio / Re: Have U Heard The Latest From D'banj? by mrjuwon: 2:25am On Aug 19, 2008
It is not by force to start a topic. There are numerous threads out there sucking D'banj's member on his new album. I am not really sure starting another thread shrine would make us see just "HOW GOOD" this album is.

@Sico - the song we don come again is actually called Pako on the album. Just thought I would point that out.
Music/Radio / Re: Who Are We Fooling? Nigerian Music by mrjuwon: 2:39pm On Jul 24, 2008
I cosign the poster to a certain extent. i believe its all about pride. We need to be proud of our language and country regardless of how messed up it is. I get really upset when people describe traditional Nigerian musicians as rass. I really hate that word. A lot of people used to describe 9ice as rass but now everyone is jumping on his dick especially after he performed at the Mandela concert. Artistes like Fela, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Lagbaja, 2face Idibia to mention but a few have reached or are reaching worldwide popularity that the likes of P Square can only pray and aspire to reach by being genuine and real. Be it singing in Yoruba or broken English. There is nothing bad in listening to Obesere (albeit he is a bit dirty with what he says), Ayuba, 9ice, Nigga Raw. These guys are representing. Our so called rap and rnb stars would only get home and national exposure at his rate because when they get to the international level, you would never be able to put P Square against Pretty Ricky to say the least. I say Nigerian musicians should stay repping our proud roots and culture. Last Lagbaja and Sunny Ade show I went to had literally the same amount of white people as black people. Obviously the two of them are doing something right and thats being genuine. The latest hype is a greek guy singing Gongo Aso. At this point, we must admit there is a pattern developing in the kind of Nigerian music that blows up beyond our Nigerian borders.

Please do not get me started on the South African shot videos. Dj Tee shot Banky W's Ebute Metta video entirely in Nigeria and that video is one of the realest videos you would see on TV without needing to go to South Africa. It added to the essence of the video rather than take away from it.
Music/Radio / Re: Has 2face Forgotten His Talent At Kennis ? New Album Review. by mrjuwon: 11:35pm On Jul 22, 2008
The album is a promo album. Lets not judge on a promo. Its just out there to test the fans reactions.

Music/Radio / Re: Rihanna's 'umbrella' Song Was Written By A Nigerian? by mrjuwon: 4:46pm On Jul 17, 2008
How does this make sense. The song was written by The Dream who is clearly without a doubt NOT NIGERIAN.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IN 2006, Dream was brought in by Tricky Stewart, of Redzone, to write with several artists the company was working with such as, Atlantic artist, Bayje, Capitol artists Dear Jane and J. Holiday and Interscope artists Brit and Alex. All of such are due to release in 2007.

To kick off the new year, Dream started 2007 with a bang. With the help of Tricky, "Umbrella" was created and was shopped to several labels for several artists. From Britney Spears at Jive, to Mary J and Akon, but it was Karen Kwak of Universal Music that got the record into the hands of LA Reid and the rest is history. Dream knew right off that Rihanna would be the best artist out of all those incontention for the record. Island Def Jam flew Dream and Tricky to LA to record with Rihanna and also while there they wrote "Breakin Dishes".

Music/Radio / Re: Dbanj Back With The Banger! (fall In Love Ft. Don Jazzy) by mrjuwon: 6:37pm On Jul 08, 2008
YourFather:

Tundewoods,  you are right on all counts bar one,  the song comes accross as a badly done demo.

The thing is Naijapals has always had a register before listening policy.

MrJuwon, I have come to respect your opinions but I am not with you this one,  if you remove the name of the acts from this song, we would all say it was rubbish, Tundewoods made strongs points to back his arguement, I don't see anyone else doing the same.

I mean can you compare Mobolowo won to this,  Wande Coal would have done a better job.

Concept ok, execution 2/10 ,  common lets be real.
I totally agree with you on this. You have taken my words out of concept there as I didn't verse it properly.I meant cool as in just there average. If you read my full take here when I posted the track earlier(http://www.worldfamousnaijablog.com/2008/07/dbanj-fall-in-love.html) you would see what I meant about the track.

@tundewoods, I would assume you were not talking to me with the first thing you wrote there as I never asked you to register at Naija Pals neither did I post the link. I only made a comment which was not versed properly.

I have never heard of anyone selling a promo album. You usually give it away at like performances or give to djs and magazines. Never heard of selling which is why there is a huge misconception about it.But why would anyone think a 3/4 track cd is a whole album is worrying hehe. Anyone gonna post at least one song or something pleasee

Darn, just when I was wondering where he was, this is the first thing i find. Oh well. Lol at person who said common £400. That is still money in Nigeria (no offence intended as I am sure some people would somehow find an offence in that statement). Oh well, he must have a reason, SMH. Eldee is quite right, if it was UK or America, then its straight to court, but in Nigeria, it seems sometimes people have to be shamed to do the right thing, oh well
