So who is the president going to support directly or indirectly, I think any investigation into the matter is just a waste of time ![]() |
The open row between the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, took a new dimension as the duo gave conflicting reports of what transpired at Okrika last Tuesday to the president. The governor, infuriated by the first lady’s alleged public scolding, took the case to the president, stating his own side of the case without hiding his angst about the way the first lady treated him like a school boy. The president, it was gathered, later asked the first lady to state her own side. The first lady’s account, it was learnt, was very different from what the governor had told the president. When the president compared the two reports, it was difficult for him to decipher who was telling the truth. So, he decided to bring in the police and the State Security Service (SSS) to investigate the matter and report back to him. Sunday Tribune reliably gathered that the president ordered the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonnaya Onovo, to instruct Rivers State Commissioner of Police to direct the Divisional Police Officer for Okrika Local Government to get to the root of the matter and report back through appropriate authorities to the president. It was learnt that to ensure that the whole truth was unearthed, the president also directed the SSS to conduct its own independent investigation into the matter. The president, it was further learnt, had been presented with the report and, according to sources, he had started studying them with a view to taking appropriate steps to correct what went wrong and guard against a recurrence. During her two-day visit to Rivers State last week, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, was scheduled to visit Okirka, her home town. As part of the programme, the host governor, Amaechi, was explaining by video, his school project, stressing the need for the demolition of some buildings to have space for the schools. At this point, it was alleged that Mrs Jonathan cut in, grabbed the microphone and said the governor should reconsider the way he was going about the demolition.

What do you expect from a woman who probably never had any form of proper home training and etiquette? What do expect from someone who would stoop as low as to fight publicly with other women? I really wonder where Mr Jonathan picked her up, This just goes to show you that style and class cannot be bought and that you can take the girl out of the street but you can't take the street out of the girl!!! I shudder to think how this woman will disgrace the country when she meets up with REAL women of style and class like Michelle Obama and the Queen of England? I hope he doesn't pounce on Mrs Obama in a fit of jealous rage!!! |

I know that there is a war going between the Diesel/Generator mafias and this new development. Imagine the billions that Ometola(sp) will lose if Nigeria is no more dependent on generators. I pray the good guys win in this situation but i will only wait to see as our hopes have been crushed time and time again. |
Canadian & Irish, Yes! Indians, Hell no! They will only come to loot the capital equipment as they did in Ajaokuta. Indians have no sincere trade & foreign policy towards Africa except for looting , exploiting & Capital Flight schemes. |
Electricity companies from Canada, India and Ireland are the final bidders to take over the management of Nigeria's national grid, a contract likely to be awarded by the end of the year, a top official said on Friday. Manitoba Hydro, owned by the Canadian province of Manitoba, India's Power Grid Corp (PGRD.BO) and Ireland's Electricity Supply Board (ESB) are the final bidders to manage the transmission grid in Africa's most populous nation. "I can tell you that we expect to finalise everything and hand over by the end of the year," Bart Nnaji, head of a presidential taskforce charged with reforming Nigeria's power sector, told Reuters. President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday unveiled a blueprint for ending chronic power shortages in sub-Saharan Africa's second biggest economy, a plan which financiers say could unlock billions of dollars of private sector investment. Under the strategy, Nigeria will privatise electricity generation and distribution. It will continue to own the national grid but its management will be privatised. Despite producing more than 2 million barrels per day of crude oil, Nigeria relies on diesel generators to power everything from phone chargers to luxury hotels because of constant power outages which are a major brake on growth. Jonathan's plan, unveiled less than five months before elections are due to be held, is the most comprehensive yet designed to solve the nation's power problems. Previous privatisation efforts, most recently of former state telecoms monopoly NITEL, have been a failure and investors say the roadmap for reform will need to be backed up by cast-iron guarantees on the regulatory framework.

Harzan:@ THE MODERATORS This a complete abuse and lack of focus, while all of us including you people complained about the way things are done in Nigeria, level of corruption and other Evil vices, Nairaland moderators are going about changing the topic of my tread, its better you remove this tread from your site rather than changing the topic of my tread ?? Or is this a sign of Corrupt MODERATORS and corrupt site ![]() |
@ THE MODERATOR= Just noticed that the topic of this tread posted by me has been changed either by the moderator or Seun, The topic was culled from The NationaNews Paper so why changed the topic from ''First Lady scolds governor in public'' TO ''First Lady Corrects Governor About A Sensitive Issue''. Or Is the moderator taking side and defending Its own Interest here, While the Nation Newspaper is not affraid to publish The news with this headline ''First Lady Corrects Governor About A Sensitive Issue'' i see no reason why you people should have changed the title of my tread? I think the confidence we have in your site to express our opinions will not be eroded, Thanks. |
I think he is getting what he deserved now that the negotiation is over, but still the amount to be paid Siasia is not made public, |
