Business / Dangote Again Emerged The Most Valuable Brand In Nigeria, MTN- Most Popular 2021 by mrT: 10:10am On Oct 27, 2021
The annual top corporate brand evaluation report, TOP 50 BRANDS NIGERIA has just been released. Dangote Group, a fully integrated Conglomerate and proudly Nigeria brand again emerged as the Most Valuable Brand in the country for the year, while MTN Nigeria is the most popular through a Top of the Mind (TOM) survey conducted among corporate executives in the country.

These were part of the revelations in the report presented at the unveiling of the top brands in Nigeria over the weekend. The annual top brands league table which has become like a report card with which top corporate brands have a feel of their ranking in the market is done with a special purpose model, the Brand Strength Measurement (BSM Index), a model that tests a brand’s ability deliver on its promise to its consumers from the consumer’s points of view. It is a qualitative, non-financial evaluation of top corporate brands in the country which is done annually.

Taiwo Oluboyede, the brand consulting firm’s CEO in his address said, without any doubt, the subject of brand and branding has become central in every corporate setting. And regardless of the sounds of the time, the brand drives and determines corporate placement, particularly at an unprecedented time like these.

We are glad once again that a Nigerian brand emerged as the Most Valuable for the year. This says a lot about our tenacity and resilience as a people and our businesses, regardless of the situations around us. Even though overall, we have more multinationals, the homegrown brands gave an impressive performance. For example, 6 of the top 10 in the league table are Nigerian, most of which have also spread to other countries across Africa and other continents of the world.

Globacom another proudly Nigerian brand emerged in the third place, followed closely by Coca-Cola Nigeria who enjoys a lot of its global brand appeal.

Others in the top 10 in this annual ranking are GTBank, Airtel, Access Bank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, and Dufil Prima Foods in that order.
6 brands among the top 10 have maintained top 10 positions for 6 years consecutively-they are Dangote, MTN, Globacom, FirstBank, GTBank, and Coca-Cola.

The Banking and Financial Services category had the highest number of entries among the top 10 with 4 brands. This is followed by the telecoms with 3 brands.

Airtel Nigeria recorded the highest gainer among the top 10, moving 5 places to emerge on the 6th position.

Overall,
• There are 28 Multinationals, with MTN Nigeria topping them, while we have 22 Nigerian brands.
• The banking and financial services category took the lead as usual with 11 brands, an equivalent of 22%, with GTBank toping the category.
• This is immediately followed, expectedly by the Consumer goods with 8 brands, where Dufil Prima emerged on top of the category.
• The Conglomerates and Oil & Gas categories had 5 brands each with Dangote Group and Oando Plc topping them respectively.
Others are
• TELECOMS and BEVERAGES had 4 brands each with MTN and Coca-Cola topping their categories respectively.
• MASS MEDIA, ELECTRONICS, and BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION SERVICES had 2 brands each with Channels TV, Transsion Holdings, and Julius Berger topping their categories respectively.
• We had to separate the INSURANCE category this year because of the increase in their number in the annual brand league table with 3 brands in the category. AIICO Insurance topped the list.
• Last but not least are the duo of Toyota Nigeria and Jumia who are the sole brands in their categories, while Toyota is the leader in the Automobile, Jumia lead the retail category.

Furthermore,
• Transsion Holdings, makers of popular mobile devices emerged the highest gainer this year from 50th position last year t0 39, a record 19 place upthrust. This is followed by the duo of FlourMills Nigeria and Chivita Limited.
• Leadway Assurance made the top brand league table for the first time this year.
• 13 brands maintained their previous position in the annual ranking.

Another part of note in the report was the 10 Brands to Watch. These are brands that have shown a lot of vibrancy in recent times. Though they are not among the top 10 yet, but they are promising. Most of them are even recent startups, who have defile the rule, disrupt the status quo in many situations, and are now standing strong.

The good thing is, most of the 10 brands to watch this year as we have had in recent years are homegrown.

It should be noted however that the Brands to watch were not subjected to the BSM model evaluation, however, they have considerable mentions during the Top of the Mind Survey.

The 2021 Brands to Watch are
1. Adron Homes & Property
2. Air Peace
3. Lifemate Furniture
4. Natnumdo Foods
5. Ritefood
6. Flutterwave
7. Arise Tv
8. Opay
9. GIG group
10. Iroko TV

It should be noted that the brands evaluated and rated and privately, non-governmental brands. We also shy away from betting and tobacco brands for moral reasons.

Details of the evaluation process and ranking are available on their website www.top50brandsnigeria.com.

This is a regressive policy. How about highly scholastic children who have developed ahead of their pairs?
The youngest guy in my class back then was 14, he ended up among the best graduating student and the best programmer in our set. He is a successful programmer doing great today. You are saying such persons should rather wait till some other students where they dont need more than 5 marks to gain admission into the so called unity school. NO way.

Top 10 universities in Nigeria, 7 of them in the South-west. This should get any genuine leader thinking on how to raise other region's standard, not at the expense of the ones on top though.
2 of the top10 are actually owned by a mission, and less than 20 years old, really?
There must be somethings they know how to do right which others can learn from.

Since you know all thiese the house should just summon Hon Speaker to speak for the President. Would the spokespersons do better job than this.
You are summoning someone to come and respond to nosediving security situation and wellbeing of the citizenry, the job we voted him to do, with heavy payment and the best of lifestyle Nigeria can afford and you painted him that much, really?

You made it seems he will be doing 200million people, particularly the grieving families across the country, the farmers who had decided to abandoned their harvest to safe their lives, their sweat of the year o. You made it sound like he will be doing us a favor and inconveniencing himself by addressing the nation

Mr Gbaja's comment just shows that this is another ceremony to massage the president's ego, a waste of time and dancing on the grave of the innocent lives that were cut short.
Disappointed already.

Business / Dangote - The Most Valuable, Globacom - The Most Popular Brand In Nigeria by mrT: 2:19pm On Nov 18, 2020
For the 3rd year running, Dangote Group, a proudly Nigerian brand and one of the most diversified and fully integrated Conglomerate has again emerged as the Most Valuable Brand in Nigeria for the year. This was part of the outcome of the 2020 edition of the annual brand evaluation, TOP 50 BRANDS NIGERIA.

60 Brands that Power Nigeria @ 60
This year’s edition was made TOP60, instead of the 50, this is in commemoration of the Nigeria’s Independence Diamond Jubilee as announced earlier in the year.

In a statement made available to journalists ahead of the public presentation on Sunday, 15th November, Taiwo Oluboyede, CEO of TOP 50 BRANDS NIGERIA said “In this special edition of the annual top brands evaluation, I am glad to inform you again that Nigerian brands have taken the shine by maintaining their leadership positions. We are particularly delighted that locally made brands doesn’t just top the list, they also record the majority among the top 10, with 7 of the 10 brands being Nigerian”

48% Nigerian
However, the multinationals have more entries overall, with 52 percent, an equivalent of 31 brands, while there are 29 Nigerian brands out of the 60, .

Stronger Nigerian Brands
This achievement by Nigerian brands are significant in many ways, having 70 percent of the top 10 being Nigerian. It shows that our locally made brands are constantly evolving and becoming more vibrant by the day. They have not relented in making attractive value proposition that endear the consumers to them, to the point that many consumers are now contended with Made in Nigeria, over foreign brands across many categories. This is a clear departure from recent pasts.

This also means that many great things are still happening in Nigeria, regardless of the negative press. Our locally made brands are standing shoulder to shoulder with the multinationals in their industries and they are emerging better in valuation and perception.

Big businesses and widely acceptable brands are being built here, challenging the status quo and taking leadership roles across various industries and areas of operations.

They are not just local champions, many of these Nigerian brands have also become multinationals, expanding aggressively across other African countries and beyond. You can see this in brands like Access Bank, Globacon, UBA, GTBank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, Dangote Group etc.

This is a huge plus to the Nigerian business space and a strong point of encouragement to foreign investors that Nigeria still remain a top business frontier where you are almost certain of high return on your investment.

A brief summary of the 2020 report reveals that

Dangote Group topped the list of the Most Valuable Brand 2020. This is followed by MTN which also doubles as the Most Valuable Multinational and Telecom Brand.

At the thirst place is Globacom, another proudly Nigerian brand. Glo made an impressive achievement this year by emerging top in the popularity survey. The popularity test, which is done though a Top of the Mind (TOM) survey is the first and most important variable in the annual top brands evaluation. Glo achieved an 89% mention from respondents during the TOM survey. This made Globacom, the Most Popular Brand in Nigeria 2020.

Coca-Cola Nigeria emerged in the fourth place and effectively topped the Beverages category, followed by GTBank on the 5th Place, topping the Banking and Financial Services brands.

The Banking and Financial Services had the highest number of brands in the top 10, with 5 brands. This is followed by the telecoms with 3 brands.
7 brands among the top 10 had maintained top 10 positions for the past 4 years consecutively.

5 brands among the top 10 maintained previous year’s positions.

OVERALL

48 Percent, that is an equivalent of 29 brands are Nigerian while there are 31 multinational.

The banking & Financial Services had 14 brands, equivalent of 23.3 percent, followed by the Consumer Goods Category with 12 brands. This is led by Dufil Prima Foods.

Conglomerates and Oil & Gas categories have 6 brands each, with Dangote and Oando topping them respectively.

Telecoms and Beverages had 4 brands each. MTN and Coca-Cola emerged top in these 2 categories respectively.

Media and Automobile had 3 brands each, with Channels TV and Toyota Nigeria topping the categories respectively.

Construction Services, Electronics, Agriculture and Retail categories had 2 brands each with Julius Berger, Samsung Electronics, FlourMills of Nigeria Plc and Jumia, a first entrant topping these categories respectively.

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc emerged the higher gainer this year, while 10 brands among the 60 maintained their 2019 positions.

7 brands made the annual ranking for the first time, these are Sterling Bank Plc, Seplat Petroleum, Daraju Industries, TGI Group, Transsion holding, Jumia Nigeria and AIICO Insurance

Detail of these are available in the BRANDNIGERIA publication, with profile of the top brands and other related stories.

Religion / Re: How You Can Know For Sure That You Will Go To Heaven When You Die by mrT: 11:30am On Aug 30, 2020
So, if someone confess the Lord Jesus now with the evidence of joy which follows and he is sure of heaven with the Spirit bearing witness with his spirit that he is a son of God.
.And after some times, become an armed robber. Are you saying such is going to heaven?

I read this 1 John 3:7... Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous." That sound like there is a 'doing' in the work of righteousness. Though I'm not a pastor nor a theologian. But a child of God

I also read that he that commit sin is of the devil

1 John 3:8 says he that commit sin is of the devil. Is this guy that is of the devil covered by the 'grace'

ROM 6:1 asked the important question, can we continue in sin that grace may abide?

Based these scriptures... There is the DOING in the work of righteousness.

God knows we are human and could go into sins after salvation, that is why we can always go back to Him in sincerity to ask for forgiveness.

However, you go into sin after salvation and kept going with the believe that you have automatic righteousness. Know that there is no repentance after death

Let's be careful what we teach, so as not to lead people to error.

Let's all be much more CAREFUL what we HEAR so that we are not led to error and miss God.

I always think of this popular prayer that God forgive someone's sins/ misdeed after death.
Does God forgive sin after death, such that all he need to do is to gather big pastors or imams to pray over the dead and he is in heaven. Or these are just words of human consolation?

In that case, one could just make arrangement for the best/biggest priests in town to offer days/weeks of prayers.

Politics / Ait Documentary On Buhari by mrT: 3:09pm On Feb 02, 2015
So, here are the 9 shameful lies that AIT and its reporters who put together that show of shame called a documentary tried to impose on Nigerians:

BIG FAT LIE #1: THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THE MAITATSINE RIOTS STARTED DURING BUHARI REGIME – A simple-fact check online will reveal that the Maitatsine riots started in 1980, and the riots in which over 3,000 people died actually occurred from 1975 -1982, many years before Buhari came to power. In fact, Maitatsine was KILLED in one of the riots in 1980 though some of his adherents still did some damage up to 1984.

Truth be told, unlike the lack luster campaign we have witnessed under Jonathan against the Boko Haram sect, the Maitatsine sect was actually CRUSHED during the Buhari regime, and its leaders scattered to Cameroon, when Buhari sent an overwhelming military force to confront them in 1984. Again, this happened in my school activism days so I know what I am talking about. Also, the objective history books and websites still online support this history. Yet, AIT shamelessly tried to claim that religious riots started under Buhari.

BIG FAT LIE #2.THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED BUHARI EXPELLED GHANIANS FROM NIGERIA – This is also a verifiable lie. Simply Google or ask any Ghanaian old enough at the time. It was President Shehu Shagari of NPN who first expelled over 1,000,000 Ghanaians in 1983 in the infamous ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ inicdent, as some sort of retaliation for what the Ghanaians did to Nigeria in 1969. This was BEFORE Buhari came to power. You can check the facts yourself from this 1983 story by New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/02/02/world/by-land-and-sea-they-stream-from-nigeria.html

BIG FAT LIE #3. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED GLORIA OKOH, THE DRUG CARIRER DISAPPEARED FROM JUSTICE UNDER BUHARI – Another lie from the pit of hell. We all know the Gloria Okon fake ‘death’ and disappearance saga happened under Ibrahim Babanginda after he overthrew Buhari. In fact, the late Dele Giwa was rumored to have been bombed to eternity AFTER Buhari had been overthrown, for being too nosy about what really happened. I remember very well how Gani Fawehinmi fought a gallant battle to bring the perpetrators to justice. Again, the person most people accused at the time was Ibrahim Babangida, who overthrew Buhari, and NOT Buhari himself.

BIG FAT LIE #4. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED FELA IDENTIFIED BUHARI IN THE $2.8BILLION OIL MONEY SCANDAL IN HIS SONG– This is a big lie. Fela’s song about the missing money is still available EVERYWHERE. I have a copy of it and have listened to it again just in case I didn’t listen well before. Truth is FELA NEVER MENTINED BUHARI’S NAME. He only mentioned OBJ and ABIOLA. Of course the AIT people disingenuously edited that part of the tape out when they played Fela’s music in their documentary. This is definite proof they DELIBERATELY LIED otherwise why not let the song play to the point where names were mentioned?

BIG FAT LIE #5. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI HAD A HAND IN THE DEATH OF FELA’S MOTHER- FUNMILAYO RANSOME KUTI. Again, a simple fact check by my 6 year old daughter would reveal that Fela’s mother died after Olusegun Obasanjo invaded the KALAKUTA Republic of Fela in 1978. It was OBJ that ordered the house of his former Abeokuta Grammar School mate to be burnt down over his criticism of OBJ government. I remember that one very well because our house was a walking distance from Fela’s shrine then and we all rushed to witness the ‘unknown soldier’ saga play out in living colors and I saw Fela’s mother actually being thrown out of the window from upstairs by soldiers loyal to OBJ. Fela even released a song about it WELL BEFORE Buhari even came power more than 6 years later in 1984.

BIG FAT LIE #6. THE DOCUEMNTARY CLAIMED BUHARI IMPROSONED INNOCENT POLITICIANS. This is one of the most unfortunate lies of the whole sordid documentary. The fact of history shows that All Politicians that was sentenced to prison by the 1984 Military Tribunal were found to either enrich themselves with public funds or diverted public funds. None of them were convicted by fiat. Even the President Jonathan they were trying to help did not really say the politicians were innocent. He only said there should have been a difference between STEALING AND FRAUD! He said someday stole ‘only N5m’ and was given 15 years jail or someone stole money that was not enough to buy a Volkswagen and was sentenced to life. LWKMD! A government thief is a THIEF, whether N1 or N100M. THEY WERE ALL TRIED, not by Buhari but by a properly constituted tribunal. IN any case, how any sane person who was an adult in 1983 could argue that people like Umaru Dikko, Akinloye, Ambrose ALLI and even Ekwueme were innocent is beyond me.

BIG FAT LIE #7. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI HAS BEEN LOSING SINCE Buhari 1999. This is a lie. Buhari’s first shot was in 2003. In 1999, it was Chief Olu Falae of ANPP/AD that contested against Obj. In any case why does it matter if he contested so many times and lost? Many great leaders have lost countless elections before finally getting a chance. Even the Great Obafemi Awolowo and the Great Nnamdi Azikiwe also contested many times too without winning, but I don’t see AIT criticizing that!

BIG FAT LIE #8. THE DOCUMENTARY CRITICISED BUHARI FOR HIS STEWARDSHIP OF PTF –Yet the truth remains that he was vigorously investigated by the vengeful OBJ and NOTHING was found on him. Even OBJ recently confessed that the Fraud investigation report did not find anything against Buhari. Still that did not stop the lying journalists at AIT from claiming he was corrupt as the PTF leader though they could not show any proof.

BIG FAT LIE #9. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI OWNED AND BENEFITED FROM AFRI-PROJECTS CONSORTIUM SCANDALS– While I definitely agree that the Afri-Project Consortium did a poor job with the enormous responsibilities it was given as consultants by the PTF, there is no shred of evidence to suggest that Buhari is one of its owners or that he personally benefited from their operations. It is a testament to the deception behind this hogwash documentary that the narrator kept saying ‘APC’ in its presentation of Afri-Projects Consortium to somehow connect the company with APC on a mental level. What a shame.

The truth behind this big fat lie is that Afri-Projects Consortium Ltd is a registered company in Nigeria and the AIT should have published their Form CO2 AND C07 to show us the real owners. Buhari has constantly challenged everyone to show proof of any ill-gotten wealth in his hands and nobody, including the AIT crew, has been able to do that. The man still lives in a modest house, and remains the only former head of state without mansions in Abuja or elsewhere, and yet these idiots would want us to believe he stole billions of dollars
