I think the inference that Messi could successfully extend his playing career by being a depep lying attacker is fair. Its obvious to me that he seems to have more creative vision in his style than cristiano. Its probably a reason Messi plays better in the middle while cristiano is better out wide. I can definitely see him playing that way if he decides to do so later in his career.

So disappointing.

Mata has quite a bit of a weakness though. He is missing the characteristics to be elampawaful. Pace and power. He seems very weak so its possible LvG would also want to get rid for a more pacy and dynamic attack. I like Mata alot but he definitely needs to step up his game.

The potential problem in the 1st line up is Mata. Are Blind and Herrera dynamic enough to give Mata a solid platform behind him?
Di Maria wide is a good move cos it would be wise to place him in as attacking a position as possible in order to cause damage to the opposition.

The 2nd line up is another good one. I like the diamond formation although i hope our new expensive toy does not get hurt with the daily grind of the EPL midfield season. I believe we will get width from our overlapping FULL BACKS with Di Maria and Herrera helping out on the flanks when needed. When under pressure, Di Maria and Herrera will push into the middle to help Blind block the passing lanes.

3rd line up could be useful when there is no pressure on us in midfield against teams we have under the cosh. Rooney can only thrive as a no 10 only in low pressure situations. His first touch,agility and short passing leave a lot to be desired.

Well said. In all 3 for me Di Maria has license to roam. Blind and Herrera should be keeping the shape/discipline. I think the third lineup would be a bold one for an away match against City/Chelsea for example. It has the potential to shock even though I know never in a million years would LvG or SAF play that way in such a match.

Not a fan of Rooney in the number 10 but these are some preferred 11s from me. Sorry about the size.

Sad to see Danny go to Arsenal. I liked Danny and was really hoping he'd stay. I do understand why he's left and i think Arsenal is a good place for him to go to but definitely sad to see him leave the club.

Finally, bloody 'ell we've signed Falcao. I'm glad its a loan which is a pretty low risk deal even if it'll cost about £20m. If it doesnt work out he leaves next summer if it does we have a top class player for £50m. Just have to be sure the knee is fine.

Definitely good to see the club go all out an spend the money rather than allow the glazers to continue eating up the club's money.

I think the signings have put pressure on LvG that he has to challenge for the title this season. A top 4 finish is simply not enough.
