Suarez was given 8 months ban yet Barca still signed him and we knew how he turned out.

If Tonali is quality and not injury prone and can easily slot into the team, that's what Newcastle should be looking at not whether he has 10 month ban possibly hanging on his head.

My thoughts tho

He can still go on to have a great career at Newcastle. He's a good player. That's not the point. The point is that it was completely missed. By the recruitment team he heads up. What if it was a player with something more severe?

By all accounts, Tonali's gambling issue was well known issue in Milan so a new £50m signing getting a 10 month ban with a gambling addiction would be a bit of a problem. I would have thought our top DoF would have done due diligence to find out about this.

I just read that Ashworth is responsible for Newcastle signing Tonali. Is that not a huge disaster for Newcastle and something Ashworth should have picked up before signing him?

Just as I expected. It would be foolhardy to start sticking new players when the new sports dept is not yet in place (meaning the same otondos might still negotiate the deals) and when the manager might not be there next season.

I think this means the club has accepted this season as a write off. Hopefully they recover things in the summer.
