Jet radars has detection for upper hemisphere, lower hemisphere, and rear behind the jet.
Thats how jets detect enemy above, target on ground, and enemy behind. F-7 has a circa year 2005 modern generation Italian- Grifo radar.

At the time of its inception, the JAS 39 Gripen was the most advanced fighter anywhere in the world since supplanted by the "5th Generation" Lockheed F-22 Raptor and similar types. IT HAS A POOR DETECTION RANGE BECAUSE IF IT RELEASES AAM AT 35KM, THE MISSILE WILL GO ASTRAY. IT WONT BE ABLE TO KEEP TRACK AND CONTROL OF THE MISSILE.
