Gospelozy:
Good morning House. Please an urgent one.
My brother graduated with a 2.54cgpa in Geology and Mining. He wants to do his msc in environmental science or any related course.
Please I need referrals on schools with funding or low tuition.
Thank you. Please I need the gurus to help.

2.54/5.0?.

Honest truth, your chances of funding is very low

1. Evaluate your cgpa to 4.0 using WES free calculator to know where you stand

2. Hit Google and search "lowest out of state tuition in texas" replace texas with every other states you wish to study. (since low tuition is your priority)

3. From the search results, go through the school websites and check each school's Admission requirement to see if your cgpa meets the admission criteria. Some schools consider your last 60hours credit (300l and 400l) evaluation incase your first 2 years GPA is bad. While some schools decide by the entire GPA. So checking each of the school portals from your search result in NO.2 will tell you where you belong.

4. Since your proposed course is STEM, most of the schools might need GRE. prepare well to ace it as it will help to compliment your low cgpa during admission decisions.

Did u think visa and sevis fees are the basic things... As for me no they are not... I studies hard for my exam to get a good score which could fetch me a full ride... I think taking the test is one of the basic things...
Sometimes what u want might not want you
I have to make it want me..

Oga.
Visa fee is about 70k or there about.

Sevis fee is now 350usd (127,000 naira)

If your schools require waec evaluation, WES icap cost $145 (52,900 naira).

If your school requires test of English language, TOEFL cost 50k naira on the average.

If eventually you get admission and get your visa,
You will still pay the new visa issuance fee of 80k or thereabout.

The cheapest flight from lagos to Newyork is about is about 400usd. (146,000).

You see all these fees above, no school in the US will pay them for you even if you get a full ride into Harvard or MIT. you have to pay them all by yourself.

I will reframe the same question that someone asked you earlier.

If you cannot afford just $50 to submit applications, how do you intend to sort out the other fees running up to 400k?.

I like your quote of what you want that isn't wanting you. But there is the other side called REALITY.

My uni has just sent my I-20 via courier, and I should be getting it in a few days.

In the mean time, what do I do next. Do I pay my SEVIS fee now, and then go ahead to pay visa fee?

I'm sorry for the poor question.

Yes. Pay sevis.

The check the expect delivery date of the I20 via the courier tracking platform.

Then schedule your interview to dates after the arrival of your I20

guys is it too late to apply for spring 2020

No. Some schools still accept applications until November. However, the only problem is with visa.

You have to wait to get admission,
You have to wait for I20 to arrive Nigeria,
You have to book visa appointment
And you might not be lucky to get a date before your resumption.

So, it's a risk. Try to submit applications. If admitted and was able to get I20 and interview date before your resumption, fine. If not, you can always defer your admission to the next term

2.41/5.0?,

1. Evaluate your cgpa to 4.0 using free wes calculator

2. Use for result to search from google on schools that accepts your "wes result" for your "desired masters course" in USA.

3. Put your personal or family funds together because you have a slim chance of getting funding with that grade. You may lucky for a partial funding if you have higher GRE test score

Hi guys!
My interview is on Tuesday 22nd October.
This is my proposed transcript.
Please help review and show me my flaws. I will be really grateful. Thank you.

Me: Good Morning Sir
VO: Good Morning. Your passport and I-20

Me: Passes both

VO: Where are you going?
Me: I am going to Franklin University for my Masters in Business Administration degree.

VO: Why USA? Why not Nigeria? Why not Canada?
Me: You will agree with me that education is the US is widely known for its global recognition and reputation which will look great on my resume and help me achieve my goal of becoming a well-respected Business Consultant.

VO: How did you get to know about Franklin University?
Me: I conducted my personal research -school-on-school- and one thing that stood Franklin University out was that the curriculum which carries with it the Business Sustainability & Transitioning course which stands as a major problem in Nigeria and I would love to be a major solution to it. Following the death of the founders, almost every Nigerian business dies; this negatively impacts the Nigerian economy and is a major challenge to be tackled.

I followed up with the Professor in charge – Professor Charles Brighton- and I was very convinced that Franklin is the best place to get this knowledge.

Finally, my current CFO is an alumnus of the school and he highly recommended Franklin to me.

VO: How is this degree going to help you?
Me: Currently, I work as a Finance & Accounts Analyst at Crux Plc and have built a solid foundation in managing the finance of a business. I would love to further understand how businesses operate holistically -by understanding the operations, people and leadership, finance, marketing and sales. This will help me achieve my dream of becoming a Business Consultant so I can be a solution to Nigeria’s dying businesses.

VO: What are your plans after graduation?
Me: I will return to Nigeria; work with a reputable business consulting firm for 2 years to further understand the Nigeria business market. Afterwards, I will startup my own business consulting firm to solve Nigeria’s business problems.

VO: What is your first degree? when did you graduate?
Me: B.Sc. Business Administration / 2015

VO: What have you been doing since graduation?
Me: Immediately after graduation I got a scholarship to study for a mini-MBA program at Lagos Business School through with I got a job at Cruuucc Plc where I have been working as a Finance & Accounts Executive for almost 2 years now.

VO: GRE/GMAT/TOEFL
Me: No

VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 2 schools- Northeastern University and Franklin University. Both admitted me.

VO: Why did you choose Franklin?
Me: As I mentioned earlier Franklin has a unique curriculum; the Business Sustainability & Transitioning course stood Franklin University out as it will make me achieve my dream of solving Nigeria’s business problem.

VO: Can you tell me some courses you will be taking?
Me: Corporate Finance, Business Sustainability, Operations Management, HR Management, Leadership, Innovation for Business, Business Consulting, Strategy.

VO: Which course interests you most and why?
Me: Business Sustainability & Transitioning. As explained above.

VO: What do you know about Columbus, Ohio?
Me: Columbus Ohio, named after the famous Christopher Columbus, is the state capital and most populous city in the US state of Ohio with an estimate population of 900,000 people. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. In 2013, Forbes gave Columbus an “A” grade as one of the top cities for business in the US and then one of the best places for business and careers.

VO: Who is your sponsor?
Me: My dad

VO: What does your sponsor do?
AES: He owns a rẹal estate company

VO: Your visa is approved!
AES: Thank you sir.

1. No GRE / Gmat for MBA?, you sound like an unserious student looking for cheap admission.

2. Choosing Franklin University (unranked) over northeastern University with a 40 tie rank? ( check my attachment). You sounded more unserious.

If you are a Nigerian V.O . And someone told you he chose odududwa University in ife over covenant University in Ota (both private university),

How would your reaction be?,

If truely northeastern gave you admission. Pls reschedule your interview and accept that of northeastern University. You have a better chance with it than Franklin.

My own opinion, I may be wrong though.

Hi, fam. Thanks for all that you guys are doing here. Please I have to some questions to ask and I hope to find answers here:

1. Is there anyone here in this forum/thread who's in the US and studying Medical Laboratory Science at the undergraduate or Masters Level?

2. Is it possible to study Medical Laboratory Science at the Masters Level with a BSc degree in Human and Medical Physiology?

3. Does sitting for GRE and scoring high qualify one for scholarships or it'll be a combination of both your BSc CGPA and GRE?

I really look forward to receiving answers to these questions here.

Once again, thank you.
.

1. With the loads of resources available online, you can always navigate for help

2. School varies. But most schools in the US allows you to run masters in same college as your undergraduate irrespective of your major. (e.g, bsc in chemistry can run masters in biology). What they do is to check your transcript and see if you meet the required undergraduate courses. If you didn't, you may have to take few undergraduate prerequisite for your masters major. Engage the course/faculty advisors of your proposed schools for enquiries.

3. GRE + CGPA. The higher the GRE score, the higher your chances. Since its stem course, your chances are brighter.

I strongly need advice and views bout these grades:

CGPA 4.24/5.0
GRE 286 AWA 3.0
Qualification: B.Sc. Business Admin
Course of Interest: MS Business Analytics

Intending semester Fall 2020

Your cgpa is good.. But for your GRE, it's on average side.

Follow this steps.

1. Go to WES website and use the free calculator to convert your grades to 4.0

2. Hit Google and search for masters in business analytics in US and browse through the list of schools. (most schools offer this under MBA though)

3. Go through the requirements of the school and see if your cgpa and GRE score matches (I'm sure your cgpa does).

4. Check through the scholarship opportunities of the schools to see if your profile fit in.

5. Weigh the best options at hand and you may need USnews to compare the ranking.

6. Send in your applications and get ADMITTED

Your response laid so much emphasis on cgpa.

I don’t need to ask anybody, I’m in the US as well; getting a graduate degree, so I know how it works.

I’m just trying to curb your blanket statement on reasons why he/she won’t get into a program because of how competitive the application Pool can be.

Peace to you too

OK my friend. Take a glass of water and let's re-analyse the entire thing to see the blanket you are talking about.

This was his post.

mrchemist:
Gudpm I m A Graduate of Chemistry 2-2 But Currently. Have my PGDE 4.1/5.0 With Teaching Experience in Lagos State Edu Chemistry Teacher (over 7yrs). What is the probability of Getting admission with Full Scholarship for 2020 in Etsu ....Thanks

And this was my reply
Muleriders:

I don't think US universities accept PGD transcripts for masters, I may be wrong though.

What career are you pursuing exactly in the masters level?, chemistry as a science? Or education?

If as science, with GRE score of 300+, you may be lucky for partial funding because its a STEM program. I use the word partial because with your 2-2, you are competing with others with 4.9/5 first class applicants.

If you are pursuing education chemistry at master's level. You have a very low or almost impossible chance for funding because

1. Education courses are poorly funded in the US unlike the STEM counterparts.

2. Since the program is poorly funded, you will be competing with other first-class students for the little available funding.

Now that you have taken a glass of water, now read through the two content and tell me where I laid emphasis on GETTING ADMITTED into a competitive program.

I only empasized on getting a full funding for educational course with a 2-2 as almost impossible because of the little funding available for it. And I adviced him to consider masters in CHEMISTRY been a STEM course to have a partial funding advantage with his 2-2. and not on getting admitted with a 2-2

Once again, I appreciate your criticism, but I will advice you to always read and understand the context of an argument before throwing critics.

If its that easy for 2-2 to get full scholarship, then 80% of Nigeria graduates should be in US by now because almost every graduates I know had Atleast 2-2.

Peace

Please university can offer admission with lower cgpa 2-2 precisely ?

2-2 in Nigeria falls in between 2.5/5 and 3.5/5 if I'm right.

The most important thing is to then evaluate your naija 2-2 using the evaluation body which I recommend WES. reason is this, WES doesn't count your carryovers like naija unis do. If you failed a course and passed it in another year as carryover, your previous zero grade won't be recorded. Also, WES do boost cgpa.

I had 2.65/5 from naija, and when I evaluate with WES, it gave me 2.79/4 and I got an unconditional admission with it.

Like I said earlier, most admission in the US are in two categories. Conditional admission for low grades and unconditional admission for high grades.

Some schools also combine your cgpa with GRE scores + LOP to judge admissions. The bottom line is that schools vary in terms of admission process.

In my school (Southern arkansas University) , with cgpa of 2.2/4, you can get a conditional admission (you will be place on a condition in your first year, when you passed the condition, your restriction will be removed). Although, other factors also surface. Check the attachments below

Schools like alcorn State University, Morgan state University, and some schools in texas offers conditional admission with 2.0/4.0 sef if you have good GRE scores.

Engage google search, you will be amazed that there are good schools that will offer admissions with low cgpa and good standardise exam scores

But you know you aren't supposed to be asking these questions on a public forum like this where VOs do come to have break lounge and study what naija applicants/students are up to lately?.

You are in the US to study and do legalise campus job only, not to trade and run export services.

This is not necessarily a good advice.

If you convert your CGPA and it meets your school minimum requirement, please apply.

The admission process in the US is not just a thing of grade. Even when the application pool is competitive (GPA-wise), they still think alongside diversity in the class population.

Nice contribution my friend. But if you check his post very well, and also check my reply that you quoted. You will notice that it centered on "full scholarship with a 2-2 degree from Nigeria" and not about admission.

I myself came here with a poor 2-2 from naija. If you check my replies to another user, you will see where I said I have a friend in alcorn State University who is running masters on conditional admission with a third class from naija.

It is what it is. Ask anyone schooling presently in US or any of our ancestors like lagosismyhome, they will tell you how educational courses are poorly funded in USA,.

Where stem is getting over 100million usd endowment, MBA may get like 40m while education may get less than 10million usd. And with the little funds available, you are competing with other people who have higher cgpas. That is why I said he has a better chance with chemistry than with science education (chemistry education).

Its good to contribute and give constructive criticism, but lets always understand the context of the argument first.
