Press Release IPC condemns former Minister's verbal assault on Journalist For immediate release, Tuesday August 25, 2020 The International Press Centre (IPC) condemns the verbal assault inflicted on a Journalist by a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani Kayode. The journalist, Eyo Charles, who reports for the Daily Trust Newspaper, was seen in a video posted by The Cable, an online newspaper. asking the former Minister at a press conference in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, Nigeria, if he was funded to embark on a tour of projects in the state to which he responded with verbal attacks. The Minister was also seen threatening to deal with Journalist Eyo Charles, who has since claimed that a security detail in the entourage of the former Minister confronted him after the press conference. IPC views this development as repulsive and unacceptable since there was nothing wrong with Journalist Eyo Charles wanting to know if the tour was an independent initiative or a sponsored one. "The former Minister had the option of not answering the question and the abuses were totally out of place in the context of the event", the Executive Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade said. IPC therefore demands that the former Minister should apologise to the Journalist and give an assurance of his safety in view of the alleged further threats. IPC is of the view that journalists who are saddled with the constitutional obligation of monitoring governance and holding the government accountable to the people should not be subjected to harassment in the course of duty. this is an assault on journalism. Journalism is a noble profession. A profession that have rules. A profession that is practiced by the best of the world - yes (subtract me). Canada's Deputy Prime Minister is a journalist! The founding fathers of Nigeria - Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe were journalists! |
Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, CFR (24th August 1937 – 7 July 1998), often referred to as M. K.O. Abiola, was a popular Nigerian Yoruba businessman, publisher, politician and aristocrat of the Yoruba Egba clan. He ran for the presidency in 1993, and is widely regarded as the presumed winner of the inconclusive election since no official final results were announced. He died in 1998, after being denied victory when the entire election results were dubiously annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida. May his soul continue to Rest In Peace.

*Sowore* Nigerians have slammed Mr Omoyele Sowore after he called on the Nigerian Bar Association to cancel Governor Nyesom Wike's invitation, same way it did to Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State. Those who latched out at Sowore, opined that the self-acclaimed activist has lost the support and confidence of Nigerians, as he often speaks from both sides of his mouth. Others, however, submitted that both Sowore and Wike should not be taken serious, as they have insignificant impact on the society they claim to fight for. *Human Rights* Many Nigerians have flooded social media to endorse a petition on change.org, which seeks to disqualify former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Nyesom Wike from speaking at the 2020 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association. They said both Obasanjo and Wike have terrible records of human rights abuses, and as such should not be availed the opportunity to speak on the revered platform of the NBA. *DSS* The invitation extended to ten leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Edo by the Department of State Services has been misconstrued by some people on social media, who insinuated that it was a plan to rig the September Governoship Election in the State. Others, however, dismissed the claim, saying the invitation had nothing to do with rigging. They added that it is not unusual for the DSS to invite political parties to warn them against security breaches before, during and after elections. *UNILAG* Nigerians have hailed the Federal Government for stepping into the leadership crisis in the University of Lagos. While some said that the directive for Babalakin and Ogundipe to rescue themselves from official duties would bring integrity to investigations sorrounding the matter, others were of the view that the intervention was long overdue. *NDLEA* The hashtag trended on Twitter after some online news platforms reported that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency destroyed 20 metric tonnes (20,000 kg) of illicit drugs in Borno State. Nigerians also reacted to the report that the Agency is proposing drug tests for ladies before marriage. Lauding the NDLEA for its achievements, Twitter users decried the pervasiveness of drug abuse in the society despite spirited efforts by the Government to arrest the situation. |

The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari remains commitment to the protection and safety of all Nigerians. The Federal Government continues to take urgent measures to tackle the violence and security challenges in the Southern part of Kaduna, restore law and order, and ensure the security of lives and property in the area and in the State. RECENT DEPLOYMENT There has been an increase in the deployment of Special Forces from both the Army and the Air Force, so as to beef up security in Southern Kaduna. · Recently, the *Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on 16th of August 2020, deployed Special Forces operatives to Southern Kaduna*, in demonstration of FG's commitment to improve security, and as part of efforts to support ongoing operations in the North Western Zone of the country · There has been increased deployment of Military and Police Special Forces to the affected areas, in addition to the joint operation code-named "Operation Safe Haven" (OPSH), and more recent Operation Puff Adder. · Also in August 2020, the military deployed Special Operations Forces to curb the recent attacks and isolated killings in the southern part of Kaduna State. The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Maj-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed in Abuja that troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) has continued to intensify efforts aimed at securing lives and property in the area. RECENT ARRESTS · On August 5, 2020, the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), which is maintaining peace in Plateau and part of Southern Kaduna and Bauchi States, arrested eight suspects in connection with the recent killings in Southern Kaduna. · Six of the suspects were arrested in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna state, while the other two were arrested at Chawai, a village on the fringes of Kauru and Zango Kataf local government areas. · Also, the Nigerian troops in conjunction with members of vigilante group, apprehended two armed suspects at Chawai, a village between Kauru and Zango Kataf LGA. |
I HATE TRAINS. I HATE BRIDGES. I HATE RICE. I HATE TALLEST BUILDING EAST OF THE NIGER Let me give the background to this piece. I was reading some comments on Twitter early in the week, when I ran into this one by one Dr Ben Gbenro: “Why are some people allergic to good news about Nigeria? You are angry about the test-run of Lagos-Ibadan rail, you are angry about the development in Onne Port, but will eagerly amplify any negative news even if it’s not true. Something is wrong with you and I am here to tell you.” Of course, that comment generated responses, both positive and negative. But the one that caught my fancy specially was by Ayekooto, who declared: “We have got to a stage when GMB achievements can no longer be denied but hated. I hate trains. I hate bridges. I hate rice.” Very profound. A lot of people can no longer deny the many achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly in the area of infrastructure, building a new Nigeria, and so, they have decided to hate it. Sad. Very sad. Nobody can deny that there are very serious challenges in the country, particularly in the areas of security, the economy, and standard of living generally. But that is not all there is to Nigeria of today, and those challenges are being addressed very robustly. That hymn says “behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face. His purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour.” We will surely see an end to the challenges, if we all work together, and eschew hate speeches. Why then do some people choose to see and amplify only negative things? Why do they choose to remain willfully blind and deaf to positive things? And surrounded and confronted by salutary developments, they keep repeating; what has the Buhari administration achieved? Show us. You tell them that just last weekend, there was a test run of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project, with brand new coaches that will begin commercial operation before the end of the year. That is happening in a country where we were told we couldn’t afford new coaches when our oil was selling at over 100 dollars per barrel. Now, at about 40 dollars per barrel, we are launching new coaches. Instead of giving credit to a prudent government, they just say; I hate trains. Okay, if you hate trains, what of brand new airports in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, and others in the works? There was a time we were said to parade the worst airports in the world. But not any longer. Buhari reversed it in his four years. What do they say about that? They look up, look down, scratch their heads, and say; I hate airports. I’ve never even boarded a plane in my life, and I don’t want to board. Will I ever enter a plane if I’d been killed by bandits? Okay. You hate airports and planes. What of bridges being built over rivers in different parts of the country, most especially the Second River Niger Bridge, which the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) built with mouth for 16 years. You tell them that the bridge is almost 50% done, and should be completed in the first quarter of 2022. There’s also the Loko-Oweto Bridge, linking Benue and Nasarawa States. It was started by a previous administration, but almost completed now. Like a cornered rat, their eyes dart furtively from corner to corner, seeking a hole to enter. Finding none, they tell you deadpan: I hate bridges. Okay. All those are physical structures. So they want stomach infrastructure. You then tell them of the rice revolution, which has freed us from being a net importer of the product in the world. You point out that if Buhari hadn’t put his money where his mouth was, and encouraged us to go back to the land, causing rice farmers to rise from six to 12 million, we would have been in serious trouble when COVID-19 struck. How would we have imported rice, with all international borders closed, and no foreign exchange to even place orders? They pat their tummies gingerly, belch after a hearty meal, and then declare: I hate rice. A Cancer Centre has been built and commissioned by President Buhari at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). An ultra-modern diagnostic center also built and commissioned in Kano. And just this week, another diagnostic centre built at a cost of $5.5 million, was commissioned at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, in Abia State. What do they say of all these? “I hate hospitals. May I never need to use any diagnostic centre. It is not my portion.” You join them to say amen, since you don’t have a hateful heart. And you remind them that the largest ever vessel in the country, Maerskline Stadelhorn, with a length of 300 meters and width of 48 meters, berthed few days ago at Onne Port, in Rivers State. That is the biggest ever container vessel to berth in any part of Nigeria. Onne people were delirious with joy, and praised the government to high heavens, because no vessel had come to their port for 12 years, till August last year, under Buhari. You tell the naysayers the positive economic implications, but they refuse to listen. They dive under water, shouting as they go: We hate container vessels. You then take them to Yenagoa, in Bayelsa State. Just last week, the skyline of South-south and South-East was transformed, as President Buhari commissioned the tallest Federal Government structure in the region, the 17-story Nigerian Content Tower, Headquarters of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The architectural masterpiece occupies an area equivalent to four football fields, and has a 1,000 seater conference centre plus a 10 MW power plant. Started in late 2015, now completed, all under Buhari. Engineer Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary of the agency paid tribute to the resolve, determination and encouragement of the President, that saw the structure to completion in record time. And Wabote, third E.S of NCDMB in its 10 years history, has written his name in gold. Just because he has a supportive President. Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylvia, under whose tenure as Bayelsa State Governor the land was allocated for the project, declared: “The commissioning of this building is symbolic in many ways. It shows that Mr President is keen to see infrastructural development in every part of the country...It shows that skyscrapers and other laudable infrastructure can be built in the Niger Delta.” But they say Buhari hasn’t achieved anything. You show them the 17-story building, and as they gaze skyward, their caps and headgear fall off. You pick the cap and headgear, dust and hand them back. And you ask, brothers and sisters, how now? Rather than admit defeat, they pull the caps and headgear over their eyes, and grumbled: We hate skyscrapers. They make us dizzy. At that point, you pity them. You realize that they need prayers. They hate everything good. They hate anything uplifting. They hate development. They hate their country. They even hate themselves. *Adesina is Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity More... https://www.femiadesina.com/i-hate-trains-i-hate-bridges-i-hate-rice-i-hate-tallest-building-east-of-the-niger/

Kaduna Polytechnic Rector, Professor Idris Bugaje, has advised the Federal Government to collaborate with Morocco in enhancing skills in Nigeria, to address poverty causing the challenges of insurgency and banditry in the country. Professor Bugaje said, the need for Nigeria to invest more in skills development becomes imperative, saying solution to the chronic unemployment that feeds poverty insurgency and banditry lies in such investment. The Polytechnic Rector made the call while presenting certificate to 33 Quality Assurance Assessors for Skills Training under the National Skills Qualification Framework, (NSQF) which the institution intends to embark upon this year. While explaining that, the aim of the NSQF training is to facilitate certification of skills to allow graduates move out for greener pastures, Bugaje said the training is starting with Panteka Fabrication and Skills Hub. According to Professor Bugaje “Nigeria needs to invest more in skills development and collaborate with countries such as Morocco in enhancing Skills in the country. In doing that lies the solution to the chronic unemployment that feeds poverty insurgency and banditry which are the bane of the nation at the moment. “CTD shall, in addition to the NSQF training, carry out other skills training programmes, such as the ongoing refresher training in welding for Arewa Welders who may potentially be absorbed into the AKK Gas Pipeline project. “There is also short training programme in welding, plumbing and carpentry meant for up-skilling of Out-Of School Children (Almajiri and others). This is expected to commence this year immediately the campus is re-opened,” Bugaje said. The Rector also advised that, as part of its urban renewal plan, Kaduna state government should declare Panteka Fabrication Market as state heritage site, following its contributions to the development of the country. According to him, “What Panteka requires is restructuring and not demolition. The government should fix the market by making good roads networks, drainages water supply and electricity accessible to people. “The old site should be phase one and anybody who is eager to expand his business should extend it to site two which is built by government. “The advantage is that the market is close to Kaduna Polytechnic and if such market is pushed into the bush or areas that are inaccessible, there will be low patronage,” he said. https://thenationonlineng.net/solution-to-insurgency-banditry-lies-in-skills-development-rector/ |

*ATTACKS, ALLEGATIONS AGAINST OSINBAJO FABRICATED BY ONLINE PESTS – VANGUARD EDITORIAL* Need for action against online pests IT is five years since the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act of 2015 was enacted in Nigeria. The Act regulates the use of our internet resources to foster socio-economic and political development while preventing crime and abuse of human rights. The Cybercrime Act which is well-received across the civil society spectrum has acted as the shield with which the media and social advocacy community have successfully warded off draconian legislations such as the Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulation Bill 2019, which empowered government to regulate the social media. The Cybercrime Act provides against cyberstalking and bullying. Obviously, beyond the sporadic predation of hapless young people by the police for alleged internet fraud, enough has not been done to use this Act to deal with cyber news stalkers, bullies and malicious purveyors of fake news. Perhaps, no other public figure has been more harassed than the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. For instance, in the past few months, the VP has come under series of allegations most of which turned out to be false. The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has denied allegations by a former party official, Timi Frank, that it gave Osinbajo N90bn to fund the 2019 elections for the All Progressives Congress, APC. Also, the House of Representatives has confirmed that the N5bn emergency fund Osinbajo approved for the National Emergency Management Authority’s North East relief efforts were from budgeted sources and the VP had no hand in its spending. The suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has also denied stealing N40bn from the looted funds and giving a N5bn “cut” to the Vice President as widely reported. The latest allegation, which has also been publicly disavowed, is that Osinbajo colluded with the Auditor-General of the Federation to withdraw N10bn from the Treasury Single Account, TSA. The Vice President, being a cleric and respected legal practitioner, is vulnerable and struggling to cope with this barrage of false publications that seek to sully his name. We condemn cyber bullying and fake news in all their ramifications. While we stand firmly for freedom of the media, we believe that practitioners (including bloggers) must remain true to its laws and professional ethics. In holding government to account, the media must remain socially-responsible and do everything not to play into the hands of those waiting for an excuse to tamper with our civil liberties. The law must protect every law-abiding citizen from malicious, online pests.

COLUMNIST Dele Sobowale could be damn forthright. His candour can be seen in his habitual self-confession by calling himself “Area Father”. Ordinarily, one would have indulged Dr. Sobowale by continuing to classify his weekly verbiage and composition in such light as pure entertainment but for the fact that he carried that comic streak into a matter otherwise requiring sobriety and rigour last Monday in the esteemed Vanguard newspaper. In the said article titled: “That bad news from VP Osinbajo”, the columnist took charlatanism to a different height. This response is, therefore, informed by the need to save the unwary who might have been tempted to conflate his high-sounding jargons with reason and substance. They certainly are not. His entire argument can be summarised in three points. First was his querying the competence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a professor of law, to lead the management of the nation’s economy. Second was a sweeping statement that the handling of the nation’s economy on the Vice President’s watch in the first term of the Buhari administration was a disaster. Third was the uninformed attack on the National Economic Sustainability Programme, NESP. To begin with, it is a measure of a poor understanding of issues not to know that the headship of the economic council is constitutionally vested in the Vice President. Just as it is crass ignorance to suggest, like Sobowale did, that Professor Osinbajo is by his legal training ill-equipped to provide sound leadership for the nation’s economic team. If one may ask Sobowale: What exactly is leadership? It simply means the ability to harness the talent or potential of each member of a team to achieve a group objective. There are countless examples in history. Lee Kuan Yew generally celebrated for transforming Singapore from a Third World to the First World was a lawyer. Former Chancellor Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom read history. Yet, under him, Britain recorded relative economic progress. Similarly, Henry Paulson who was US Secretary of Treasury under George W. Bush studied English for his first degree. Coming home, Chief Obafemi Awolowo trained as a lawyer, yet he is still remembered today for providing sound leadership for the Nigerian economy under the General Yakubu Gowon administration in the ’60s such that the country prosecuted a bloody civil war that lasted more than two years without borrowing a Kobo. In any case, anyone who has more than a passing knowledge of the successful development model in Korea and Taiwan would know that it is ascribed more to lawyers and engineers, respectively. Sobowale’s second fallacy was the assertion without evidence that the nation’s economy floundered in President Buhari’s first term. On the contrary, the economy the administration inherited in 2015 was technically bankrupt. If the columnist’s memory failed him, the rest of us remember that it was indeed a case of perfect storm for the country then as PDP’s 16 uninterrupted years of squandermania climaxed with the steep crash in commodity prices in 2014/2015. Oil prices fell to $30 per barrel from the average of $100 it sold for consecutive years under PDP. As a result, more than two-thirds of the country’s 36 states were owing salary arrears by the time the Buhari administration came in on May 29, 2015. So, the new government had to assist states with a financial bail-out. This was the true position of the nation’s economy in 2015, as against the lie that Sobowale told in his column. It took uncommon prudence and creativity of the economic team led by Vice President Osinbajo for the economy to be nursed back to stable health in another two years even without any significant rise in oil price. Rather than malicious attack, Sobowale ought to praise Osinbajo for inspiring the think-tank that illuminated the country’s path to recovery by the second half of 2018 from the “worst recession” experienced since 1982. Finally, when people like Sobowale attack NESP as ill-thought, one can only pity them for wallowing in ignorance. The truth is that the NESP is a child of circumstance necessitated by the unexpected. The writer clearly betrayed limited knowledge of economics, planning and public policy. For a man who claims to be widely read, it is clear that Mr. Sobowale has not had that intellectual discipline to read either the ERGP or the NESP. If he had, he would have found answers to some of the issues he raised, including how the figure of N2.3 trillion was arrived at and where they will come from (limited fiscal space and raking in of balances in some Special Accounts and CBN supervised lending to businesses). Another falsehood by him is the claim that Minister of State Budget and (National) Planning admitted the failure of the ERGP. If Sobowale is sure of his fact, I challenge him to bring out the statement or quote to back his claim. Economic outcomes What the Minister of State did was to initiate the process for developing a successor plan to the ERGP which expires at the end of 2020. Indeed, there is an all-inclusive process of articulating this successor plan which goes beyond NLC, ASUU, NANS which is the limited scope of what Mr. Sobowale sees as stakeholders in the national economy. The truth is planning has a lot of unknowns. No self-respecting economist who is not a reader of tea leaves will say that he can tell with specificity the economic outcomes at the end of a year. Moreover, planning is not about economics alone – a point which Mr. Sobowale recalls in a rare moment of lucidity when he calls for wide-ranging input from various sectors into the planning process. The IMF predicted X growth for the world economy in 2020 in October 2019, but has had to review that forecast due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it is predicting a fall in global output. In any case, it really does not appear as if Mr. Sobowale, despite all his pretentious quotations from various sources, is given to deep reading. If he was, he would know that the first order of business in the ERGP was to restore oil production – a task which required building peace in the Niger Delta and which was successfully carried out by VP Osinbajo. On a final note, one observed in the said article that Mr. Sobowale was full of bile in a manner unbefitting of a man of his experience who should be sharing wisdom. Only those suffering from memory loss would deny that the Buhari administration employed 500,000 young graduates under the N-Power programme. The rest of us don’t and are reasonable enough to appreciate patriots who are genuinely committed to nation-building. Mr. Ighodaro, an economist, wrote from Abuja. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/08/coping-with-sobowales-expired-ideas/amp/ |
When will Atiku issue a press release on this? Had it been it’s something that doesn’t bothers around him, how would have issued lengthy speech. He can fix his companies yet her is clamouring to fix Nigeria. Hypocrite |
Jackson Ude and his cohorts don't understand basic public finance. Auditor General checks the books and is not responsible for disbursement, unlike the Accountant General. So how in the world can the Auditor General have Access to such an amount of money? Timi and Jackson Ude keep showing the world their level of stupidity and ignorance. Timi Frank, on the other hand, is an illiterate who also happens to be a blackmailer. No evidence whatsoever, just blatant lies against a man who has built his reputation over the years. The tactic is goebellian, if you keep telling these big lies and repeat them, at least some people will believe them. |
WHO IS USING JACKSON UDE, RUDOLF OKONKWO & IKENGA IMO UGOCHINYERE AGAINST THE VICE PRESIDENT? - BOSF WE at the Buhari Osinbajo Solidarity Front have now come to the conclusion that there is some hidden agenda being perpetrated by Messrs Jackson Ude, Rudolf Okonkwo and Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere on behalf of a veiled paymaster against the person of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. The case is easy to figure out. Ude published a series of tweets yesterday Saturday August 8 2020 and within the hour, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, using the auspices of the Coalition for United Political Parties, CUPP, has issued a Press Release not only lapping on the spurious claims of Ude, but also going further to question the integrity of a man many will swear by his character, sterling reputation and integrity. And once Ugochinyere signed the statement (titled "Allegation of how VP Osibanjo, Auditor-General illegally drew N10b from TSA:-CUPP wants Auditor-General arrested immediately and calls on Vice President to step aside and clear his name," Ude's discredited online portal was the first to publish the CUPP commets. In fact for the next several hours and at the time of going to press, no reputable online news portal or newspaper has published Chinyere's irresponsible and reckless release. Those serious news media may have a point. All of Ude's previous claims against the Vice President has been discredited and debunked wholesale one by one. Ude says Magu gave VP N4B and that Magu made such a confession at the Presidential Investigation Panel on EFCC. Magu came out openly that not only is the story not true but that even the name of the VP did not feature in the panel. The Panel itself has reportedly stated categorically that the report is a wild imagination. Ude claims that the VP'S daughter bought an Abuja property for N800m but the landlord in a signed public statement says he has not sold his property and that the VP'S daughter is a tenant. The landlord in doing so references public records available for scrutiny. Again Ude claims that the EFCC Secretary worked with the Simons Cooper law firm where VP was a partner before he resigned to take the oath of office, insinuating that VP planted him in EFCC to cut deals. But the law firm has come to assert that the said Secretary never worked in nor even visited Simons Cooper! Weeks ago, Rudolf Okonkwo, aka Dr. Damages, ran a similar video clip attacking the Vice President baselessly and carelessly basing all his conclusions on a news report that had already been shown to be inaccurate and wrong in its reporting. Without as much as do his own investigation Okonkwo happily repeated a fake story and joined in the smear campaign against a truly honest public official. The despicable antics of Ude, Okonkwo and Ugochinyere is only comparable to the crazy and wild claims of IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu who kept claiming blindly and insanely that the Vice President was either detained in the Aso Villa or has infected COVID-19 and all other sorts of his now infamous, incredible and devious lies against the Vice President and his family. All of this ludicrous pranks seem to point only in one direction: a hidden agenda by a veiled individual who like a masquerade is the actual perpetrator causing all of the attacks, smear and campaign of calumny against Prof Osinbajo, an forthright man who is only determined to serve this country with all his heart. As members of the Buhari Osinbajo Solidarity Front, BOSF, we like to serve notice that we have now become sufficiently aware of all these underhand and deceitful plans and dishonest plots by a certain political figure against the sitting Vice President whose only offense is that "he is the likely formidable candidate for the office of President come 2023." BOSF may be compelled soon to unveil the masquerade in the market place! Their latest wicked lie that the VP and the Auditor General "connived" to withdraw N10B from the Treasury Single Account of the Federal Government is not only absurd in the most extreme sense, but also practically impossible. Auditors do not withdraw or disburse money they only check on disbursements and financial records. Even the Vice President does not have any authority to withdraw money from the TSA. Both Ude and Ugochinyere have demonstrated an embarrassing level of ignorance of how public accounts are managed and this is only the reflection of their motivations. They have not acted in any public interest of any kind. They have only shown themselves as blind hireling of the veiled masquerade. In any case the Special Investigation Panel (to which Ude refers as being disbanded because of the "connivance" was actually dissolved and rightly so by President Muhammadu Buhari because it was acting way beyond the reach of its powers and mandate, becoming an instrument of harrassment and extortion.A Special Investigation Panel is only to investigate specific cases referred to it. That’s why mandate is required for the SIP to handle any investigation. It’s not like the Police, EFCC, ICPC or even Code of Conduct Bureau which have general powers. The purpose for the SIP was not to create yet another EFCC or ICPC but to have a Panel that can quickly deal with important issues that cannot wait on queue. The then Chairman of the SIP who is now being investigated by the ICPC just seized the opportunity to start extorting money from all sorts of people under the pretense of investigation. Any reasonable government would not tolerate such a covetous conduct. BOSF will like to alert Nigerians and all people of goodwill that the concerted plot to smear and tarnish the reputation of the Vice President has become a cottage industry of sorts and we are seeing all manners of merchants and traders running up and down desperately seeking to misinform, malign and mislead. Finally the strategy of this callous cohort is the same as that of Paul Joseph Goebbels, the German Nazi politician and Hitler's Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945--keep inventing and repeating false corruption claims against the Vice President in the expectation that this would bring about a shady cloud on the integrity of a well known man of upright character and forthrightness. They will fail. We urge members of the public to be wary of all this shenanigans and demand for the truth without which they should ignore that masquerade and his outriders. Osinbajo’s long-standing integrity and why you should ignore the lie So one renegade reporter began spewing some lies about the Vice President last week but what Nigerians know about the impeccable integrity and unquestionable character of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is not a new subject of public discourse. On July 3, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari said some flattering words about his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. It is not the first time he has showered praises on Prof. Osinbajo or lauded him for his integrity on the job. The latest offering of commendation came following the declaration of Nigeria as polio-free by the World Health Organisation. “This is to express our profound appreciation for your leadership of the Presidential Taskforce on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunization. The declaration of Nigeria as a Wild Polio free country is the result of your effective coordination of the Nigerian Polio eradication program through the Presidential Taskforce on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunization, Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency”. While some might argue that it is commonplace for a boss to shower praises on his deputy, others will tell you that it has to be earned and I think the latter is true. But Osinbajo’s long history of integrity was not built overnight. In 1999, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had just been elected Lagos governor and he needed a man with a stellar, impeccable record to lead the legal reforms in Lagos. At the time, he did not know Prof. Osinbajo and had never met him but the recommendations from neutrals to pick the Vice President as attorney general was overwhelming. It was not just his unmatchable brilliance that caught the eye but his integrity. He was subsequently appointed Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General. During his time as attorney general many reforms where undertaken including the establishment of the Office of the Public Defender, fiscal and legal restructuring among other notable things but something else also happened. This encounter was recounted by Richard Akinnola, renowned lawyer and journalist. According to him, many years ago, when Osinbajo was the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos state, he revolutionised the infrastructures of the Lagos judiciary with new modern buildings. So one day, the main contractor, a foreign one very popular in Nigeria (name withheld), came to meet Yemi Osinbajo to show appreciation. The officials of the contractor gave him an offer as they normally do to Nigerian government officials as a show of “appreciation” after a lucrative contract. They asked him to give them a location where they could put up a structure for him as personal house, to show appreciation. Osinbajo didn’t say anything. He dialled the intercom and invited his Solicitor-General, Fola Arthur-Worrey. As soon as Fola came, he asked him to show the contractor the site of the new court library the ministry had wanted to build but put in abeyance due to paucity of funds. He asked the contractors to follow Arthur-Worrey to show them the site. The officials of the contractor were shocked. They apparently were encountering such a government official with such integrity for the first time. But Osinbajo’s integrity has swelled since then. As Vice President and acting President, he has rejected uncountable amount of offers from oil companies, multinationals, etc that many stand in awe of him, often describing his actions as ‘rare’. Politicians, religious and traditional leaders have at different times offered their thoughts on the personality of Prof. Osinbajo. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, once described him as a man of integrity, praying that he continued to grow in wisdom, when Prof Osinbajo celebrated his 60th birthday in 2017. Speaker of the House of Representatives also described him as a honest person. “Apart from being a reliable human being, the VP is one of the most honest people I have come across in my life. I make bold to say that the VP has qualities worthy of emulation by other Nigerians.” Osinbajo’s integrity has also endeared him to traditional rulers. Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, paid a glowing tribute to Prof. Osinbajo at the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in 2019. “He has leadership given to him by the lord God Almighty, it is a trust and responsibility and he is here in his capacity as VP and we invited him to give the keynote speech as VP of Nigeria and he accepted to be here,” the Sultan said. Former Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II once told Prof. Osinbajo to consider Kano his ‘second home’, this is similar to what many other monarchs have said to him across the country. The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar who holds him in high esteem described him as the most honest Nigerian leader. “I want to specifically commend the Vice President for his loyalty, his commitment and dedication towards the transformation of Nigeria to its present state. We are fully aware of the situation President Buhari and his deputy, Osinbajo, met the country but today, things are changing for the better because of their efforts. “This is attributable to the excellent working relationship between President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo. Prof. Osinbajo is the most honest person and leader Nigeria has produced in recent times. “His relationship has remained cordial with Buhari largely because of his honesty, I commend you, Vice President. I am particularly happy with the Vice President for the way he has shown loyalty to President Buhari, Daura Emirate is extremely grateful, for your commitment and confidence transforming Nigeria despite the challenges.” The respect Prof Osinbajo commands has resonated among the Christian community especially with regards to politics. Ask Pastor Sunday Adelaja, founder and senior pastor of the Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, a megachurch based in Ukraine and he will tell you that, “I dare say that I personally do not know any other Christian leader in Nigeria with the kind of impeccable reputation, character and integrity as that of Professor Osinbajo.” Revered Bishop Francis Wale Oke shares a similar sentiment. The president and founder of Sword of The Spirit Ministries International says Prof Osinbajo is incorruptible. “The VP is always reaching out to Christians leaders on the need to support President Buhari; he is too loyal to a fault. So, those plotting his downfall through orchestrated campaigns should fear God. This man is not corrupt,” he said. Renowned professor of law, Itse Sagay said this of Prof. Osinbajo. “The Vice President is an incorruptible man of God, a man of high moral standing who is as clean as a whistle. He will not appropriate any money that doesn’t belong to him to himself. What about internationally? How do view the Vice President? Joel Rainey, a US-based pastor who has never met urged Nigeria to lend United States the services of Prof Osinbajo for four years. Prof. Osinbajo is indeed a man who places his good name above silver or gold. I will leave you with this quote from his opinion orginally published in The Guardian-while an employee of the then Federal Military Government-on Tuesday, November 4, 1992 titled ‘A Matter Of Honour’ in which he brought his courage to bear by urging former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida to keep to his word and handover government as promised. Then a Special Adviser to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Bola Ajibola, Osinbajo wrote, “It is for this reason, that those who say that government should extend the transition programme or refuse to handover in a chaotic situation, must stop this call to denigrate a solemn vow of the rule to the ruled. That unscrupulous politicians could frustrate a carefully-planned six-year transition must mean that an additional few months of planning cannot be failsafe. It follows therefore that government must select the option that make its exit possible on the agreed date. This is the way of honour.” Osinbajo said that even though he was a Special Adviser in that same government. Eventually, he had to resign soon after as the powers that be were uncomfortable with such courage and moral clarity. This is why Nigerians, by and large, understand that when fake news merchants and political schemes concoct lies designed to tarnish Osinbajo’s sterling reputation, it’s all a futile attempt. The Vice President is known by his good fruits already, his image will survive the ongoing 2023 murky permutations and schemes. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/07/osinbajos-long-standing-integrity-and-why-you-should-ignore-the-lies/ |
Before we had Vanguard, Wazobia, Business Day and now Daily Sun has apologised. Drastic actions need to be taken before this junk media outlets set this country ablaze. |
The apology is not enough. They should pay for the false publication. |
supercase1:It’s obvious you can’t read at all |
The Sun Newspaper has tendered their unreserved apology to his Excellency, Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo over the false publication bothering on the alleged withdrawal of N10 billion. This apology is coming barely a week after the Vice President threatened to take legal actions if the publication is not retracted by The Sun Newspaper. It could be recall that BusinessDay which also made similar publication had tendered their apologies since last week. Many have seen this as not a mistake but a deliberate attempt to smear the image of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The Sun Newspaper in their apology letter published on their website said: On August 9, 2020, we published a story in our online platform titled: “Ex APC Spokesman asks Buhari to probe Osinbanjo, AuGF over alleged N10 billion withdrawal from TSA,” wherein some allegations of corrupt practices were made against the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. The publication was based on a press statement, which we regrettably assumed to be reliable at the time of publication. Since the publication, however, we now have reasons based on some fresh facts to believe that the story was not duly verified to be correct before the publication. In view of the foregoing, we hereby tender our unreserved apology to His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, over the said publication, even as we regret any distress, embarrassment or inconvenience which the publication may have caused him. We hold Prof. Osinbanjo in high esteem and assure him that such oversight will not re-occur in future. – Editor, The Sun Newspaper https://www.sunnewsonline.com/apology/ |
"Wharf road completed, open for use, Liverpool, Creek road, others to follow, soon." While some challenges are still being sorted out, significant progress is being recorded in the Apapa traffic situation according to an updated report submitted to the Federal Government last week. According to Mr. Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President the report indicates that critical infrastructure including roads around the Apapa corridor are now at different levels of completion with some already open for public use. The latest update on efforts to fix the Apapa traffic situation was given at a virtual stakeholders’ meeting earlier this week chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. It would be recalled that part of the plan to address the problem in Apapa is the idea of fixing some of the roads around the area. Progress recorded in fixing the road infrastructure relative to the Apapa Traffic situation as disclosed at the meeting includes: • Apapa Wharf road – Completed since 2018 and already in use. • 1.4km Liverpool road – Almost completed but open for public use. • 2.9km Creek road – Almost completed but open for public use. • Apapa-Oshodi Expressway from Creek road to Tin Can Port gate 1 – Almost completed. • Apapa-Oshodi Expressway from Tin Can Port gate 1 to Mile 2 – at advanced stage of completion • Tin Can Island Transit Truck Park - Completed and now in use. Besides the issue of road constructions, other development includes the adoption of a Call-up system for trucks at the Lagos Port which is at advanced stage and will soon be deployed. Speaking after listening to presentations by the various stakeholders at the meeting attended by top government officials including the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Prof. Osinbajo directed all agencies working within and around the Port to work in collaboration with the Lagos State government to intensify efforts aimed at clearing the traffic problems in the area. At the meeting, while responding to the Vice President’s inquiry about the renovation of the rail line to the Port, Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi who was also at the meeting said the COVID-19 pandemic had altered the pace of work but that work would resume soon on the rail line. Speaking on the current traffic situation around the area, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said it has been exacerbated by the temporary closure of major transit routes like Third Mainland Bridge, Eko Bridge and several other roads. Earlier while presenting the update, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Presidential Task Team, PTT, Mr Kayode Opeifa said one of the major challenges faced by the team include short demurrage timelines which forces operators to be on the roads to return containers before they start incurring fees. “We call for the understanding of all stakeholders especially during this period of huge level of construction activities to modernize the Port access roads and infrastructure". “The deployed traffic management system by the PTT, in addition to efforts to deploy technology by the NPA and the Shippers Council would be adequate to sustain the gains we have recorded. The era of perenial gridlock is definitely behind us,” he said. On her part, the Managing Director of NPA, Hajiya Hadiza Usman said the agency would soon deploy the call-up system for trucks, and no truck will be expected on the roads unless called up. In addition to the deployment of the call-up system, the NPA MD said that the agency, in collaboration with other stakeholders, was looking at other options such as the use of inland waterways/terminals to evacuate cargo. On the efficiency of cargo inspection at the ports, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) said three scanners approved by the Federal Government would soon be procured and installed at Apapa Port to improve the service’s efficiency. He added that plans are underway to have over 300 more scanners installed at other critical entry points of the country when the National Single Trade Window comes into full swing. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN had during an on-the-spot visit to the area in June 2019 restated the Federal Government’s resolve to implement short and long term measures to ensure long lasting solution to the traffic problems in Apapa and its environs. With the VP at the meeting were also Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd); Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Hajiya Hadiza Usman; the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr Hassan Bello; and the Executive Vice Chairman of the Presidential Task Team, Mr Kayode Opeifa. Earlier last week the Amalgamation of Container Trucks Owners Association of Nigeria (ACTOAN) and other stakeholders in Apapa were reported in the media observing that the ongoing road constructions in Lagos metropolis and within Apapa environs is responsible for the recent slow pace of movement into Apapa. According to the media reports, the truck owners, residents and other stakeholders in Apapa also lauded the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led Presidential Task Team on restoration of law and order in the area. They said the timely intervention by the Osinbajo-led team has restored sanity after two days of gridlock caused by the massive road construction and rehabilitation on major access roads as well as the enforcement of law and order in the movement of tankers, trucks and other heavy duty vehicles in Apapa environs. Speaking on the development in Apapa, the ACTOAN Chairman, Chief Olalaye Thompson, said there was no traffic in Apapa anymore like the gridlock following the intervention of the task team. Also speaking, a resident, Wahab Jimoh said more private cars now ply Apapa more frequently due to the restoration of law and order on the axis. According to him, “there was no resurface gridlock at all. No truck sleeps on the road, it has never happened. So where is the gridlock, so we should be talking about the whole Lagos gridlock then? There is more car traffic in Apapa than any other time. Moving truck traffic on one lane while cars are moving freely on the other lane can't be seen as gridlock." |
Igbochief001:Only people without conscience will still hate Buhari after all he’s doing for the betterment of this country. |
I read with utter amusement the insulting words and uncomplimentary diatribe against the reputable office of the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo from a certain columnist, Dele Sobowale. In Mr. Sobowale’s vicious and treacherous column in Vanguard newspaper which was infamously decorated with the caption, ‘That bad news from the VP, Osinbajo’ on Monday August 17, 2020 when he attempted to respond to an earlier publication in Vanguard, August 11, 2020, page 19, with the headline, “FG has started implementing Economic Sustainability Plan – Osinbajo” is not just misleading but also puts the professional competence of the writer in doubt. To openly condemn the efforts of this government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) and Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) and their milestones as well as their indelible accomplishments is the biggest joke from someone who I believe should act like an elderstateman who love Nigeria and wish Nigeria well and not to act like a messenger of doom with no modicum of dignity and decency but only to continue to play the role of ‘the boy is good’ to his pay masters who are merchants of corruption having brought the country down to her knees socio-economically. Such a man like that should cover his face in shame. For the records, the Federal Government has truly commenced the execution of the sustainability measures contained in the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), and this is what everyone can investigate, nothing is hidden about this fact and I don’t know where Mr. Sobowale got his own jaundiced narrative from. I can also say this for free that this government has once again gained and added to the existing confidence and goodwill from the people when the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo made the disclosure of the commencement of execution of the sustainability measures at a webinar organised by Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) 2020 Presidential Policy Dialogue. This became more applaud able when he said that the ESP was developed with a stimulus package of N2.3 trillion to boost local production, prevent business collapse and provide liquidity across various sectors, especially micro, small and medium enterprises MSMEs. These are clear indications that this government is leading the best, most successful, most intelligent, most enlightened and most productive cabinet and government in the history of Nigeria. However in recent time, I have read many of such misleading and unfounded sensational comments about the APC-led government like this recent diatribe from Mr. Dele Sobowale in the past and perhaps I erroneously ignored them but now realised I had done greatest disservice to my country by not correcting or reacting to such lies, falsehoods, innuendos and terrible stories that biased writers and hatchet men are bandying around against the government. For the price that I owe history I think it is high time I activated my response mode in the spirit of national interest which is completely devoid of political patronage. The activities of these reprehensible writers are far too irritating and indecent; hence there is urgent need by all well-meaning Nigerians to change the narrative so as to safe humanity from being lost completely. These are just despicable and unfortunate development in the anal of our national life and it must not be allowed to continue. Mr. Sobowale should know that one of the ethics of his profession as a columnist or commentator is that he must adhere to constructive criticism and not mere vituperation or tantrums, he must be objective, balanced and write from informed point of views not using baseless statistics to tickle fancy with the aim to overheat the polity and pollute our decent democratic culture. It is so unfortunate that people could condescend so low all for a price. It is really regrettable that Mr Sobowale will forget so quickly how the past government for 16 years “stole” and “wasted” Nigeria’s resources with impunity and how His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) and his able Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo led government are working to clear the rot that government left. He also could not appreciate how this administration fought and conquered recession in their first term and how they are currently confronting the impending recession occasioned by Covid-19 and fall in global oil price and other inclement and unforeseen economic challenges which evidences show they will overcome and thankfully their track records can speak for them. Nigerians were taken for granted too long and have vowed enough is now enough. No degree of blackmail and wicked scheming will make us return to the years the locusts had eaten. We have crossed the Red Sea and have no intention to return to our ugly past. While the past government and their paid agents attempt to discredit the ongoing fight against corruption, expanding and growing the economy, infrastructure development through well measured interventions and policies, etc they should be informed that they have already met their waterloo. The assurances Nigerians can hold firm is that the APC will not fail the country like the wasted 16 years of the past government. While their propaganda continue to spew lies in its cheap attempt at opposition politics, President Buhari and his Vice, Osinbajo as well as their economic team are concentrating strictly on the important work at hand clearing the mess and rebuilding the country in all facets. Nigerians are wiser and they cannot be distracted through ugly narratives orchestrated by the fifth columnists. I have never met a leader more committed to the entity Nigeria than Professor Yemi Osinbajo (PYO), a man with so much commitment, dedication, confidence, passion and such a good communicator, excellent listener and someone we can conveniently call a moral icon. As Vice President, Osinbajo has established policies that are more masses oriented and beneficial to the general public. Unlike past vice presidents, Prof. Osinbajo has won the trust of the President and the masses alike with his integrity and passion for a better nation. His poverty and hunger fighting policy have earned him accolades from far and near including President Muhammadu Buhari, who on the 8th march, 2019, described Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as a “very dependable deputy” with whom he had established a special bond. Evidence further shows that Osinbajo has since the inception of this administration diligently championed the values of setting the foundation for peace, progress, and stability of Nigeria, by working very hard to build a resilient economy while promoting transparency and accountability. Osinbajo has displayed that he is not only a VP for Christians, APC or Yoruba’s alone but also, a VP for all religions, political parties, tribes and all geo-political zones in Nigeria. Those sponsoring hate and false news campaigns against a man committed to fighting poverty and hunger in Nigeria with his National Social Investment Programmes should show the world that non-partisan Nigerian or a hardworking and committed political leader that can be compared with Professor Yemi Osinbajo. It gives me profound conviction and joy that he is a Nigerian and one that has stood firm in all his ways to make Nigeria great again no matter whose ox is gored. Hon. Makinde once represented Ife Federal Constituency at the National Assembly and was Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Human Rights. https://thenationonlineng.net/re-deconstructing-the-lies-against-prof-yemi-osinbajo-and-dele-sobowales-diatribe/

Ude's discredited online portal was the first to publish the CUPP commets. In fact for the next several hours and at the time of going to press, no reputable online news portal or newspaper has published Chinyere's irresponsible and reckless release.
