Politics › Ex-militants Bomb Escravos Gas Pipeline In Delta by murphyibiam15(op): 4:21pm On Jan 15, 2016
By Emma Amaize
WARRI- SUSPECTED ex-militants, Thursday night, blew up a gas pipeline in
Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State conveying gas from
Escravos–Warri-Lagos-Abuja, property of the Nigeria Gas Company, NGC, in
what is believed to be a resumption of fresh hostilities in the Niger Delta region.
A riverside dweller, who spoke to Vanguard on phone from one of the Ijaw
communities, said, “We slept with our eyes open throughout the night as bombs
boomed everywhere, the attackers were exploding bombs and shooting guns
indiscriminately.”
His words, “They blew up the gas pipeline from Escravos to Warri – Lagos and
Abuja at three different points. They struck at Opudebubor, Okpelama and
Kpokpo area, Chanomi creek and Sahara, behind Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL.”
“We do not know what is going to happen next, but there is tension since last
night over the bombing and many residents are afraid that it will continue.
Some are already fleeing their communities because they suspect that
government would deploy security agents to hunt for those bombing the
pipelines and they do not want to be caught in the ensuing crossfire.”
On Thursday, Niger Delta ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias
Tompolo, who a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, issued a bench warrant for
his arrest, same day, raised the alarm that some persons were planning to
bomb crude oil facilities and pipelines and other facilities in the Niger Delta and
attribute the havoc to him.
He cited those allegedly dissatisfied with the re-election of Governor Henry
Seriake-Dickson fo Bayelsa state and urged them to desist from plan.
His words, “I want to admonish those that are still aggrieved as a result of the
outcome of the election not to resort to destruction of national assets,
especially crude oil facilities and pipelines and attribute it to me because of my
position on the election.”
He asserted that destroying crude oil facilities would not do the country any
good and urged them “to support the President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration to succeed.”
Tompolo alluded that he was being persecuted for refusing to support the All
Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, in the Bayelsa election.
Contacted Friday morning, chair, Delta Waterways and Land Security
Committee, Chief Boro Opudu, said, “I am hearing rumour about such incident
but I have not confirmed what happened. I cannot, therefore, speak on the
matter until I have my facts.”

if we are to go by this story then fg has given the states free hand to mine their solid mineral resources so if a company that gas history in using coal for power comes so the state should say no we are only interested in using crude or gas for power? So fg would not welcome it? Because coal has not been utilized all these yrs? I dont get your point

china still largely uses coal power plants if you do your research..it does not mean that nuclear and hydro are not used
..so what if it nigeria we are talking about?if a private company wants to use coal for power generation and finds out it is profitable should govt stop it?
i think i have got ur point....but we know quite well that Nigeria is overdependent on crude and gas for power generation and may not think of using coal...afterall coal has been available all these years

why then are china and India still using largely coal for power generation?
china by far uses nuclear reactors and hydropower for electricity generation and moreover we are talking about Nigeria here and not china

what is the cheapest means of generating electricity??
that is theoretical....in science we have theoretical things and practicable things....nobody will go along way using coal to generate electricity when there is oil and gas and the price has even fallen.....coal was used in the olden days and around the 15th century..

lets be practical

Crime › Re: Ojukwu’s Niece, 4 Others Arrested For Drug Trafficking (Photo) by murphyibiam15(m): 8:17am On Jan 13, 2016
contactmorak:
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have arrested five people including one Ijeoma Ojukwu, a niece to late Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, and three others namely Victor Umeh, Uche Igwelo and Egbuche Fidelis Osiita over the trafficking of 2.24kg of substance believed to be cocaine from Brazil. Also being investigated is a staff of NDLEA. NDLEA officials believe that 48 year old Ijeoma who runs a restaurant in Brazil is believed to be a member of an international drug syndicate.

Speaking on the arrest, the agency’s commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba ‎said a luggage tagged for Agina Fidelis Ejike, was abandoned at the arrival hall during inward screening of passengers on an Emirates flight on December 28.

“On January 1, 2016, one Egbuche Fidelis Osita came with authority letter mandating him to collect the bag. In the process, some white powdery substance weighing 2.24kg that tested positive for cocaine was discovered. The drug was neatly packed in four parcels concealed in false bottom of four female handbags.”
“My brother came from Brazil and could not find his bag. It was in the process of trying to get the bag out that we were arrested.”
Uche Igwelo, 36, a public administration graduate, said she was invited by Ijeoma to assist in collecting the bag.
“I sell kitchen utensil and I am married with a child. Ijeoma met me that I should help him to collect a bag at the airport. We were trying to get the bag when NDLEA officers arrested us,” Uche, an Anambra native told investigators, according to an official statement from NDLEA.
Egbuche Fidelis Osita, a 37-year-old student said that he was asked to collect the bag. “I am a 400 level student studying English Education at the Ekiti State University. My friend Victor Umeh was the person that asked me to help in claiming a luggage at the airport. We all drove to the airport where I was given a letter of authority and other documents of the passenger that came with the luggage. In the process of trying to collect the bag I was arrested. This is all I know about this incident,” Osita said.

10. N195 Billion Maina Pension Scam
The anti- graft agency is investigating how the biometric contract allegedly awarded to streamline pension administration under Abdurasheed Maina actually became a conduit for stealing pension fund.
Alhaji Maina misappropriated billions of naira worth of pension funds, which he claimed to have recovered from pension thieves. The senate committee probing pension funds management accused him of mopping up pension funds of about N195 Billion from banks and depositing the money in his private accounts.
On the 2nd November 2015, Maina was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Maina whereabout is still unknown.
