That Ransome-Kuti family was something else.

I remember Beko Ransome Kuti was the Health Minister and he used to drive around in one broken down Range Rover going around the country preaching about AIDS. He also organised nationwide innoculation program for us in 1990.

Do they still do free innoculations in Naija?

Beko Ransome-Kuti, Gani Fawehimni and Mr Soyinka are true patriots. I throway salute for them!
Olikoye Ransome-kuti was health minister. Beko Ransome-kuti was an activist as well, his activism was enough to piss Abacha off and he got thrown in jail.

PoliticsRe: Tsvangirai's Wife 'dead In Crash' by mustafar1: 7:02pm On Mar 06, 2009
afam4eva:
The wife of Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has been killed in a car crash in which he was also hurt, according to reports.

Susan Tsvangirai was travelling with her husband south of the capital, Harare, when the crash happened.

Mr Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party, formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe last month.

The two had been long-time rivals before agreeing a power-sharing deal.

MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa told Reuters news agency that Mr Tsvangirai was not in a critical condition.

"We have just heard that there was an accident of sorts involving the president of the party. Injuries, yes, but not critical condition, we are still assessing the actual condition," he said.

Map
The prime minister is said to have been on his way to his rural home in Buhera at the start of the weekend when his vehicle was involved in a crash near Beatrice.

A second MDC spokesman, James Maridadi, told the Associated Press news agency that the car had been in collision with a lorry. The car was also carrying an aide, he said.

The prime minister was apparently not seriously hurt but was immediately transferred to a clinic in the capital, Harare, the BBC's Peter Biles in Johannesburg says.

The crash comes just two days after Mr Tsvangirai delivered his maiden speech to parliament after being sworn in as prime minister in Zimbabwe's power-sharing government, our correspondent adds.

He and his wife Susan, who were married in 1978, had six children.

The BBC News website's Africa editor Joseph Winter says Mrs Tsvangirai always stayed out of the limelight but was equally a source of strength to her husband, when in the past he was charged with treason and assaulted for his opposition to Mr Mugabe.

She accompanied him to court on several occasions.

There are no dual carriageways on Harare's inter-city roads, making overtaking dangerous, our correspondent adds.

Traffic accidents are common, often because of speeding and drink-driving.
SOURCE PLEASE!

The news i got says she was badly hurt not dead only if it was bad enough that it later led to death.

I SMELL A DEAD RAT. Gutt feeling says there might be more to this whole 'accident' than is known at this point.

are they constructing it and managing it. or they are constructing it and leasing it to govt to manage? what role is the government going to play in the whole thing (please dont tell me its private funded so government is not involved). there are more kweshuns that we need facts to. until that is provided we just dey waste our energy typing and thinking.

The truth is in principle i agree with you that tenor elongation is not exactly right, however in Nigeria's peculiar situation att hat time i felt we still needed OBJ to complete several of the wonderful reforms he had started. There is no Nigerian that has his experience at that level and strength of character coupled with the good will and zeal to make Nigeria great that OBJ had. We really neede him to have a very strong foundation for our development. For instance see what happened to EFCC after baba left, it makes a president with strong political will to make an organization like EFCC work in a corrupt country like Nigeria.
Finishing the reform he started? that is where continuity comes into play. if he had some weight to determine his successor, then the idea of term limit being extended to finish his reform shouldnt be an option. if he chose YarAdua and non of his reform was continued then i must say, that single action rubbishes all u claim he had done to warrant a 3rd term. as per ur efcc example, what would we call his palling around with the same people his efcc went after.

Well i wanted him to have a third term and i don't know why you guys are making so much noise after all he attempted to do it through constituitional means (via amendment which is allowed by the constituiton) he was honourable to accept the verdict of the senate on it. Other African rulers would have still imposed themselves on the country, but as a stateman OBJ bowed out. wink
just curious, lets assume he got his third term. would you see anything wrong if he decided at that time to seek a 4th term?

“We have agreed that 40 percent of the political appointments would be allotted to all the groups who are aggrieved at the state level, similarly, 30 percent of the political appointments would go to the aggrieved party men at the council level, if Engr. Segun Oni wins the gubernatorial re-run election in the state.
Some of the demands of the former governor  include the dissolution of the party’s executive at the state level; payment of severance allowance to all the political appointees who had served during his regime; unconditional release of all members of his faction who are presently  facing criminal charges in court and harmonisation of political appointments.

Fayose had threatened that should any of his demands be dropped, he would work for the success of Dr Kayode Fayemi of the Action Congress (AC) in the re-run polls.
they have destroyed the credibility of the election even before a vote is cast. WHICH WAY NIGERIA? cos if this isnt rigging/election buying then what is.
